Even at night, the river flickered with shimmering light, casting a twinkling reflection on the two girls.

They hugged and cried for a long, long time, knowing that their days together like this were numbered.

How wonderful would it be if this moment of embracing could last forever?

How wonderful would it be if they could hold each other forever?

“But I… Yui, as the Demon King, I must leave this place. It’s my destiny.”

The silver-haired girl—Demon King Yui—spoke with a weak, choked voice.

She didn’t resent this responsibility nor did she hate this destiny. In fact, she welcomed becoming the Demon King, as if it was the highest honor she could receive.

Raised with this belief from a young age, she was groomed as the heir to the Demon King’s throne, so of course there was no room for rejection. Her worldview, without deviation, was infused with the ideology of being “Demon King Yui.”

Then, shouldn’t she be holding her head high, proudly heading towards her place of glory, and decisively saying goodbye to her dear friend before her?

What is this pain…?

Ah, is that it?

The one feeling sorrow is “Yui,” while the one feeling honored is “Demon King Yui”?

The complete indoctrination of the Demon King’s values was contradicted by the influence of the dear friend before her.

This dear friend—a golden-haired girl—noticed none of this. She lifted her head and said hoarsely, “Make a promise with me, okay?”

Little did she know, this promise and these memories would cause endless conflict between the thoughts of “Demon King Yui” and “girl Yui” in the centuries to come.”One day, one day we will meet here again.”

“One day…” Yui’s words were interrupted by a choking sob. “How long do you plan to wait, you idiot…”

“Forever.”

As she spoke, she extended her pinky finger. “I’ll wait for you here forever, Yui.”

Their pinkies intertwined, sealing this promise.

A promise between the Demon King and her…

Year after year, whenever the time of deathly silence and rebirth of all things arrived, Demon King Yui would come here, to the riverbank where they had parted ways long ago.

Her deep crimson eyes gazed upon the shimmering waves of the river, revealing a lonely expression.

Has it been seven hundred years?

What a long time it is! Even for the demon kind, it’s no short span of years.

Every year, at the transition between winter and spring, she would come here, hoping that the figure from her memories would appear before her.

Seven hundred times of waiting, seven hundred times of hoping, seven hundred times of disappointment, seven hundred times of longing… Yet, Yui still hasn’t given up.

“I’ll wait for you here forever, Yui.”

Yes! Because that person made such a promise.

That person would never deceive her, absolutely, this time they would definitely appear before her, embrace her tightly, and say, “I’ve kept you waiting, Yui.”

This time, I must see you…

Footsteps.

Yui turned around, and before her was a blonde girl, standing there seemingly aimlessly.

“Who?” Yui wondered.

The girl before her momentarily overlapped with the golden-haired girl in her heart but also had numerous discrepancies that felt off.

They stared at each other for nearly ten minutes until Yui broke the silence. She tiptoed and brought her face close to the blonde girl’s, her small nose gently twitching as she greedily inhaled the girl’s scent.

No!

This scent was not the one Yui had been waiting for.”Answer me, who are you?”

The blonde girl didn’t immediately respond to the question, causing the atmosphere to freeze again.

After about five minutes of brewing tension, a sudden rise in temperature melted the cold air.

“I like you! Let’s get together!”

Hmm… Is it possible the temperature rose a bit too much?

“Are you the Hero?”

Based on Yui’s accurate assessment, the girl in front of her was indeed a Hero.

If she had to give a reason, not long ago, her demonic subordinate bought her a game to play, and the Hero in that game looked just like this.

“Yes, I am the Hero. Is there a mission you’d like to assign to me?”

“Nope, Yui doesn’t have a mission to assign. Yui is the Demon King—Lupamoroy.”

“So, Yui…”

Before she could finish, Yui quickly protested, “It’s ‘Lupamoroy’!”

After her protest, she puffed her cheeks and put her hands on her hips—a complete display of a stubborn child.

“But that name is really long…”

“That’s the title of the Demon King!” Yui began to explain a long origin story.

The so-called title represents one’s true nature—in other words, these origins fully represent the essence of being a “Demon King.”

Yui puffed out her nearly flat, small chest, seemingly proud of this title. However, the girl didn’t remember a word she said, let alone the origin.

“That name is a title, right? So your real name is Yui Lu?”

“How do you know my real name?!”

Why, why, why, why, why?

Yui’s mind was full of a hundred thousand “whys”!

Could this person have thoroughly investigated Yui’s background?Otherwise, how could she possibly know Yui’s real name?

No, could it be that Yui accidentally let it slip?

The girl named Yui continuously pondered internally and carefully reviewed their conversation, convinced that she hadn’t revealed her name to the girl: “I didn’t tell you my name!”

Great, the problem that had troubled the girl for a while had reached a conclusion.

“Isn’t that exactly what you’re saying now?”

“…!”

Yui felt an emotional blow and started drawing circles in the sand beside her.

“Hey, you should pull yourself together! What kind of Demon King gets so discouraged that they start drawing circles in self-pity?” The hero attempted to encourage Yui!

“You don’t understand! Idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot! All heroes are big idiots! I hate you the most!”

“Ahem…” The blonde girl sighed softly and then gently patted Yui’s head, comforting her: “Okay, okay, be good, don’t cry!”

“Ugh, stupid hero! Go away!”

Even though she said this, Yui didn’t push the girl’s hand away, nor did she show any intention of stopping her from patting her.

Although Yui’s expression was hard to read, the cat hairpin on her left pigtail gave her away, revealing a blissful expression. It seemed she was enjoying the atmosphere.

“My name is Tapfer, which is German for ‘hero.’ Now we know each other’s names, so it’s evened out, right?”

Tapfer…

“Somehow, I feel like I’ve heard that before…”

But why? Her memories seemed incomplete, she couldn’t remember.

“Huh? Did you say something just now?”

“It’s nothing, nothing,” Yui shifted her gaze to the package: “What’s that?”

How great it would be if it were a cat plushie or a delicious strawberry cake?

“Huh?”

Tapfer followed Yui’s gaze to where she was pointing, then looked at the time in a fluster, it was 12 o’clock already!

It seemed she was in a hurry?Wait, maybe she’ll ask me if I can use teleportation magic to help her or something.

“Lupamoroy, can you do instant teleportation or spatial transfer?”

Just as expected…

“Of course! I’m the Demon King! But why should Yui help you?”

“Uh… think about it, doesn’t a hero always receive help on their journey?”

“But I’m a Demon King, and I’ve never heard of a Demon King helping a hero.”

Watching the hero’s face shift from expectation to disappointment was actually quite amusing.

Heh, Yui really wants to see this perverted hero fail in her mission. Haha, serves you right for bullying me earlier.

Yui would never help you; let’s see what you can do!

“Well, I’ve got a giant cat plushie that I planned to give to you, but it’s in the next village… Ahem, if only there was a teleportation spell to fetch it right away…”

“What!?”

She actually used that move!

Ah, this is too mean!

“Did… did you just say ‘cat plushie’?”

“Yeah, that’s right! A giant one!”

Meow ahhh—! I want it so much! Yui really wants it!

Cats, cats, meow meow meow.

“Lupamoroy-sama, can you do instant teleportation or spatial transfer?”

“Yu-Yui won’t be fooled so easily by you! Definitely not for a cat plushie or anything! It’s just that I happen to need to go to the next village, don’t get it wrong!”

In an instant, they were already in the next village, and they ended up right in front of Old Wang. Heh, Yui’s precision is truly impressive!

Old Wang, as the name suggests, was an old man with a waist-length gray-white beard, but his eyes retained a youthful sharpness.

“Amazing, to cover such a long distance in an instant…!”

“Hehe, this is just a small feat for Yui!”

Meow, being praised, being praised! Praise Yui more!Originally, Tapfer thought she would receive a gaze full of admiration, but instead, it was a mischievous smile that seemed to harbor other intentions.

No, to say it was a mischievous smile isn’t exactly correct. More accurately, it was the kind of grin a curious teenager might give when discovering adult magazines.

“Your expression is really pervy!”

“No! I wasn’t thinking about anything inappropriate or lewd!”

Tapfer hurriedly clarified, much like a teenager caught by their parents with hidden adult magazines.

Though that excuse might work with parents, it wouldn’t fool the esteemed Demon King. How could such a blatant lie deceive her?

Like a detective pointing out the true culprit, with precision and certainty, Yui said, “Yui can read minds, you know!”

“Then… what was I just thinking?” Tapfer asked, slightly nervous.

“Ah, ah, so cute, I so want to seize the chance to kiss her!”

The Demon King accurately revealed the Hero’s deepest thoughts, not missing a single word.

Unfortunately, the human mind is a scary thing; only reading the surface thoughts is useless, as unknown dangers still lurk beneath the sea’s depths.

“That’s exactly what I wanted! Since both sides are willing, I won’t hold back then!”

It was a trap. Tapfer’s goal was merely to make Yui say it out loud.

By the time Yui realized this, her lips had already met Tapfer’s.

“…!”

Just a simple kiss, yet it sent emotions into such chaos that it felt hard to breathe, as if a circuit had burnt out, stopping all thoughts and leaving nothing but blankness.

Those soft lips… it’s my first time feeling such a special sensation, intensely aware of the other’s body heat and passionate breath.

Ah… what a strange feeling.

Clearly, I was the one being forcibly kissed, but now there’s this greedy urge to draw more of her saliva.

“…Mm… Mmhm…”

It seems she’s been overtaken by a madness! No longer satisfied with just the contact of lips, she boldly slipped her tongue into Yui’s mouth.

“No!”

She tried to scream, but couldn’t achieve it, only managing to produce a few gasping breaths. It wasn’t because she couldn’t voice it, but rather she had subconsciously accepted Tapfer’s invasion. Her own tongue even moved forward to meet hers, their tongues entwining in their mouths, producing more saliva.

Saliva overflowed from their mouths, trickling down the corners.

“Mm… Ahh…”

It’s so hot…

So hot, so very hot…

It seemed like something within her body was about to surge forth. What was it? Yui didn’t know, but one thing was certain: if they didn’t stop, things might spiral out of control.

“You idiot!”

With her remaining rationality, she barely reined in her body’s desires and forcibly pushed the Hero away.

“My first time and… you have to take responsibility for me, you know!”

“I understand. I will take full responsibility, Yui. Marry me!”

An unexpectedly bold declaration.

The Demon King was momentarily stunned but recovered within seconds, almost falling for the Hero’s tactics again!

Even though she knew how unrealistic such words were…

For a brief moment, a sense of anticipation bubbled in her heart.

How foolish—Yui mentally berated both herself and the Hero.

No matter how much she resembled her first love (the blonde girl who made a promise with Yui), Tapfer was still the Hero, and Yui was the Demon King.

A Hero and a Demon King, human and demon race… they couldn’t possibly be in love. A cross-species relationship like that would certainly face opposition. Besides, Yui knew that the thought of it was utterly revolting.

Yes, like a cat and a dog mating—extremely disgusting!

At least her first love was also from the demon race. But Tapfer, standing before her, was a mere human, and no matter how much their appearances might resemble each other, she was ultimately just another kind of ape.

Rationally, she knew this very well, but just looking at that face made her heart pound inexplicably, aligning the two images of them together.

“Idiot, idiot, idiot! I hate heroes the most!”

She uttered words that contradicted her true feelings. To cover up this embarrassing state, Demon King Yui hastily used ‘Demon Realm Return’ to teleport back to her castle.

‘Demon Realm Return’—a skill exclusive to those under the Demon King’s power, allowing them to instantly teleport to the outskirts of the Demon King’s castle from miles away. Its initiation time and range far exceed the usual ‘Teleportation Spell.’The only drawback is that after activation, it requires a wait of thirteen weeks for it to be used again (cooldown time).

As soon as she opened her eyes again, she was already standing in the hall of the Demon King’s castle.

Yui gently placed a hand on her chest, quietly muttering to herself, “Idiot.”

This time, the words were not directed at Tapfer, the Hero, but at herself, “Idiot.”

Why did she find herself in such a state of panic?

Why was her heart beating so fast?

Could it be that I, could it be that Yui… saw that girl as “her”?

No, it shouldn’t be like this!

Seeing anyone as “her” is forbidden.

It was precisely because she was “her” that Yui, Yui…

“I…”

“I will always wait for you here, Yui.”

Yes… Yui will also always wait for you.

Then, she will give you that one precious promise, my dear friend.
