This is the world of a Role-Playing Game, or simply put, an RPG.

My name is Tapfer, the Hero of this world, but… I kissed the Demon King!

“Here’s your package.”

Tapfer handed the package she had been entrusted with to Old Wang, along with some tissues.

Old Wang opened the package, checked its contents, and frowned.

Tapfer noticed this frown and began to speculate—if she was right, there would definitely be a follow-up task, most likely because something was missing that she needed to gather!

“Um…”

“Denied!”

Tapfer swiftly rejected Old Bastard’s follow-up request!

“No, I was talking about your 10 EXP reward… Well if you don’t want it, never mind.”

“I want it! I want it, I want it, I want it!” She was caught off guard not expecting a follow-up task, what a miscalculation!

“Here, this is your reward. By the way, I’m still short on ten Slime gels, help me collect them.”

The Hero received 10 EXP and accepted the follow-up task.

“What! This is forcing me to take a task!” Seeing the system prompt, Tapfer realized she had been played!

“Slimes are just Level 1, they’re easy to deal with!” He looked so relaxed.

“Then why don’t you go kill them yourself? If it’s so easy why don’t you do it, Old Bastard!”

Tapfer suddenly felt a strong impulse to yank out his beard, that would make him no different from any random old guy, yep, even more of a nobody; even less noticeable!

But it was just a thought, attacking innocent civilians was wrong, and at least she had a sense of duty as a Hero.

“No, I can’t go myself, I’m an NPC!”

The perfect excuse for slacking off, of course, it’s NPC exclusive.

This excuse was extremely unappealing in Tapfer’s eyes, she thought it was her misfortune not to be an NPC.”What kind of reason is that? I’m the Hero, does that mean I’m just unlucky?”

Forget about it, I’ll accept it. After all, it’s just fighting those worthless Slimes, not some dragon-like creatures—thinking about it, there’s a bit of comfort in that.

Outside Xiloria Village, it’s a green field… filled with green Slimes!

Everyone should be familiar with Slimes, right? They’re jelly-like, spherical creatures with two beady eyes, no nose, and just a tiny mouth.

By the way, the Slimes here primarily eat grass, which is why their originally transparent bodies have turned green.

It seems that Slimes can change color based on what they eat; for instance, if they ate bananas, they’d turn a deep skin color… no, wait! They’d turn a light yellow!

Also, these creatures can jump to twice their body height—wait, if this keeps going, it’ll turn into a Slime column.

Tapfer looked at the swarm of Slimes in front of her, it was more crowded than the capital during rush hour.

“How do the people in this village usually leave? It’s practically a traffic issue!”

It’s amazing this weak creature hasn’t died out; it really makes you question the rule of survival of the fittest.

Whatever, enough with the sarcasm for now. In any case, let’s just collect ten Slime gels and head back.

“Take this!”

Tapfer raised her newly issued beginner’s sword and swung down… Miss!

How could she not even hit a Level 1 monster! No, that was probably just a coincidence, this time for sure…

Miss.

“……”

Am I really a Hero?

Tapfer started to doubt her role… is there really a Hero who can’t even hit a Slime? The fleeting comfort she had just felt was gone. “Old Bastard, couldn’t you just send me to fight a demon dragon and let me die?”

Tapfer began to despair.

“That’s what you get for not putting points into agility.”

What a familiar line, but this time it wasn’t the bald uncle who said it. Instead, it came from a peculiar young girl watching the scene.

She was cute, but her outfit was bizarre: she wore a top like a traditional Japanese shrine maiden’s garb, but instead of the usual long trousers, it was a short skirt. Although she was a Mage, she didn’t carry a staff. The most peculiar part was that her entire body was wrapped in several bands covered in runes.

After scrutinizing her, Tapfer recalled what the girl had just said and retorted sarcastically, “I’m only at Level 1, how am I supposed to put points into agility?”

“Level 1?” The girl looked Tapfer up and down. “You do indeed seem like a Level 1, especially the… bust size!”

“Stop focusing on weird things! And it’s got nothing to do with levels, okay?”

Besides, my bust is perfectly normal! Level 1 is more like that Demon King! And don’t think you can make fun of someone just because you’re well-endowed. Haven’t you heard the saying ‘big breasts, no brains’? You brainless witch!

Tapfer became flustered and angry.

In contrast to the hot-tempered Hero, the Mage girl kept smiling, exuding an aura of a gentle sisterly type who would be easy to get along with.

“Alright, alright, I won’t tease you anymore,” she said, lifting her skirt slightly as she gave a curtsy, “My name is Rei. It’s written as ‘黎’ and pronounced ‘Rei’.””Why is the way it’s written different from how it’s pronounced? Even your name is bizarre; this person is totally a weirdo, isn’t she?”

“By the way, my Magic Name is ‘Queen830826 (Queen of Seven Days of Fire)’.”

“That’s so long! And it sounds like a game account! What’s up with the ‘Queen’ part?”

Is she talking about the card queen? Or maybe Elizabeth II? Or Margaret II? Could it be Queen Beatrix? Surely not the kind that holds a whip, right? No, with those bands you’re wearing, you seem more like an M than a Queen!

And aren’t you a Witch? Why are you calling yourself a Queen?

Tapfer’s brain cells were all in action—completely focused on sarcasm.

“By the way,” the girl suddenly remembered something and smiled, “you’re not supposed to casually tell others your Magic Name!”

“Then why tell me?! And why smile about it?”

“If someone finds out…”

Is it just my imagination, or is her smile really dark?

“I’ll have to kill anyone who discovers my Magic Name!”

Her smile is indeed sinister! So, this girl has a dark and sadistic side! But you were the one who said it out loud!

“Don’t move now!”

“……”She flashed a perfect sweet smile (?); at the same time, I felt an instant heat on my head.

Looking up, I saw a fireball! A huge fireball was falling straight down towards me! Ahhh!!

♀ ♀ ♀

Meanwhile, at the Demon King Castle.

“Sigh…”

Demon King Yui lounged lazily on her throne, propping up her slightly larger-than-usual head with one hand, occasionally sighing.

The reason for her sighing was simple—after being kissed by Tapfer, she had hurried off in a rush and ended up leaving something near Xiloria Village (Old Wang’s village), which was located on the southeast of the continent, several tens of thousands of miles away from the Demon King Castle, which was northwest. Even if the Demon King could continuously use the Teleportation Spell, it would still take several weeks to get there.

No, to be precise, it wasn’t an “object” she had left behind, but a “creature.”

If only she could contact him and have him use ‘Demon Realm Return’ to come back, he was probably still searching for her there, right? Yui thought to herself.

While she was still deep in worry, a creature that resembled a toad came running into the Main Hall where the Demon King was, shouting, “Something’s wrong! Something terrible has happened!”

“Yui-chan, something terrible has happened!” the toad gasped, out of breath.

The face propped by the Demon King’s hand showed obvious annoyance, not because something terrible had occurred, but because the toad called her by her real name.

“Yui thinks it’s your brain that’s about to have something terrible happen!”

“I-I’m very sorry! Lady Yui…”

“It’s Lupamoroy!” the Demon King protested.”Y-Yes! I apologize, I understand now!” The toad realized it had nearly lost its life, quickly correcting itself, “Lady Yui…”

It didn’t correct itself at all!

“Do you want to die, you wretched frog?”

“No, I am a toad!”

“Fine, what were you about to say?” The Demon King warned in a low tone, “If it’s not important, I’ll kill you!”

She said she’d kill him, but the Demon King wasn’t actually that cruel, at most she might just smack him a few times like a child throwing a tantrum.

“According to reliable sources, there’s an enemy invasion near Demon King Castle!”

“What did you say…!?”

♀ ♀ ♀

Flames burst forth.

Red and white light radiated intensely, mixed with high heat.

Just as the fireball was about to hit Tapfer’s head, it shattered into several fragments. The light and heat dispersed like an umbrella, burning the surrounding Slimes.

Thick smoke drifted through the air, leaving not only the Slimes but also the grass and trees completely gone, turning the area into nearly a wasteland—a second later and Tapfer might have been a charred corpse.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but shiver.

“Are you trying to kill me, you wretched witch!” Tapfer complained angrily, “I don’t want to become a golden roasted cockroach… No, who’s the cockroach here!”

“Don’t worry, I control my fireball spell very well,” Rei said with a smile while collecting some slime, “You’re completely unharmed, aren’t you?”

“If it hadn’t been controlled well by accident, wouldn’t I be dead!”

Hearing this, Rei raised her left hand, showing a red crescent mark about half a centimeter on the back of her hand.

“Do you know what this is?” she asked.

“The moon!” Tapfer replied instinctively, clearly not using her brain at that speed.

“…”

“Why are you staring at me like I’m an idiot!”

Rei sighed, cleared her throat, and began to explain, “This is an engraving, a Magic Crest.”

“And what’s that for?” Tapfer shook her head, still not understanding.

“It’s used to command the servants in the Holy O War, and it can be used three times.”

She said it so convincingly, but…

“That’s a Command Spell…” Tapfer retorted sarcastically.

Seriously, don’t mess around when introducing terminology, otherwise what if some innocent reader gets tricked?

“Oh, wasn’t it funny?” Rei laughed at herself, “Alright, alright, let’s be serious.”

“You don’t look serious at all…”Rei cleared her throat again and said, “Generally, Mages don’t have these; only those with a certain aptitude, the naturally born Mages, possess them.”

She continued to explain, “Usually, the engraving is only about three millimeters. An engraving like this, half a centimeter wide, is indicative of someone born to be an Archmage.”

“Wow, you’re really full of yourself! You’re feeling super great about yourself!”

“But it’s true! I’m the type who can cast spells without a staff or incantation, and I’ve never failed!”

That’s probably why Rei doesn’t carry a magic staff—because she doesn’t need one.

“See these runes on my body?” she pointed out. “They’re seals, sealing my power.”

“The ‘Sealed Dark Witch’ (Note: Infinite attack and defense)!”

“……”

You just told me to be serious, and now you’re making jokes about Yu-Gi-Oh? Rei thought silently.

“I thought you said you were good at controlling it? Why do you need a seal?”

She shook her head, “I can only control my power after it’s been sealed. Before sealing, it was too strong for me to manage.”

Is that so… I’m increasingly doubtful about who’s really the Hero here. Why am I just an ordinary person?

“Alright, let’s go turn in the quest!” she urged.

Why is she in such a hurry to do that? Shouldn’t I, as the Hero, be doing it?

“Oh wow! That’s great! We’ll have jelly for a snack today!” Old Wang exclaimed enthusiastically.

Is Slime goo a jelly ingredient…? I suddenly think I’ll never eat jelly again!

“Oh, right! Here is your quest reward, 30 EXP!”

As we received the reward, light flashed around us, and the bold red letters “Level Up” appeared.

Skill: Yuri upgraded to LV.2.

“This kind of skill level up is useless!”

Skill: Sarcasm upgraded to LV.2.

“Why are all of these strange skills!”

New skill acquired: Fleeing as the Best Option.

“So basically, it’s just about running away!?”

I’m despairing, utterly despairing about my future—!!
