Shen Zhanping and Liu Wenjing stared at Ye Fangfei in shock, speechless—they hadn’t expected her to actually hit someone.

Zhu Dongmei, watching from the side, nearly burst out laughing. On the very first day of the family split, the eldest and second branches were already at each other’s throats—what a thrill!

Shen Cuixiang had never been slapped in her life. For a moment, she froze, too stunned to react.

Fangfei jabbed her finger at Cuixiang’s nose and scolded, “You were right just now—like mother, like daughter. That saying fits you two perfectly.”

“Your mother sneaks into my room when no one’s looking, and your daughter, barely grown, already knows how to insult people. Truly well-bred.”

Cuixiang snapped out of her daze and immediately began to wail. “Mom! Shen Fangfei, that wretched girl, slapped me…!”

Naturally fierce, she reached out to grab Fangfei’s hair in retaliation.

Shen Zhanping and Liu Wenjing rushed over to separate them.

Li Guiying, still fuming from being verbally attacked by Fangfei earlier, had returned to her room to lie on the bed. Hearing her daughter stand up for her brought some satisfaction—but now they were actually fighting.

She rushed out without even putting on her shoes. When she saw her daughter’s face starting to swell, fury consumed her. Pointing at Fangfei, she screamed and flailed, her glare so fierce it could devour someone, raising her hand to strike.

Shen Cuijuan, worried her sister-in-law would be harmed, stepped in with a broom as a barrier. Panic and fear made her jittery. Their parents weren’t around, and if a fight broke out, the younger branch would surely lose.

All the men of the Shen family—except Shen Zhanping—were at the old house fixing the roof, with Sun Xiujun helping out.

In the second branch, it was just Ye Fangfei and Shen Cuijuan. Against the elder branch, they were clearly outnumbered.

Shen Chunsheng and Shen Zhang had long heard the commotion, but they didn’t care. Today was the day of the split, and both were in uneasy moods.

It wasn’t until Fangfei and Cuixiang’s fight escalated that the older couple emerged.

Seeing the chaos in the yard, Shen Chunsheng barked, “Everyone stop this at once!”

Li Guiying, still furious, ignored his command. All she wanted was to slap Fangfei’s face to defend her daughter.

Fangfei, savvy and knowing when to retreat, grabbed Shen Cuijuan and ran.

Before leaving, she cast a threatening glance back. “Eldest branch, you think you can bully me with numbers? Just wait—I’m going back to my mother’s house to bring reinforcements.”

“You little wretch! You hit our Cuixiang, and now you claim we’re bullying you? How shameless!” Li Guiying snarled behind them.

Fangfei and Cuijuan had just exited the main gate when they saw the men of the Shen family and Sun Xiujun approaching from the south.

“Dad! Mom! Finally, you’re back! Eldest Aunt was going to hit me—help!” Fangfei’s shout startled even the sparrows in the trees.

Shen Jianhua and Sun Xiujun exchanged a glance and hurried back.

Shen Zhanqiang, at the front, brandishing a spade, charged forward, shouting fiercely, “Let’s see who dares lay a hand on my sister-in-law!”

It was shift-change time; many passersby stopped to watch the commotion.

Fangfei had originally planned to run to her mother’s house with Cuijuan, but seeing her parents return, she changed tactics. She and Cuijuan hid behind her in-laws and began loudly explaining the situation.

“Eldest Aunt snooped in my room when I wasn’t there. When I asked what she was looking for, she said since we’re splitting the family, she wanted the room I was living in and demanded I move out for them.”

“I told her there were still two days left! Why was she in such a rush? She rummaged through the younger generation’s rooms, showing not an ounce of respect for her elders.”

“Then Eldest Aunt, feeling guilty, scolded me harshly and left.”

“I thought it was over, but then Cuixiang pointed at my nose and insulted me—said like mother, like daughter, claimed I wasn’t well-raised, and even cursed my mother, saying Shen family was unlucky to have married her. I couldn’t let that slide. So, I slapped her.”

“Then Eldest Aunt, Cuixiang, and Shen Zhanping with Liu Wenjing chased after me…”

Fangfei spoke loudly, her voice carrying far.

She tried to squeeze out a few tears to show how wronged she was—but lacking the talent for acting, she gave up.

Shen Cuijuan admired her. Wow, Sister-in-law’s tongue is sharp. I need to learn from her.

Shen Jianhua and Sun Xiujun, though good-natured, were furious after hearing her account.

Shen Zhanping, caught off guard by Fangfei’s quick tongue, couldn’t get a word in. Now it looked like their branch had bullied the younger branch.

He hurried to explain, “Second Uncle, it’s a misunderstanding. Wenjing and I just followed to see what happened—we didn’t touch Sister-in-law.”

“You just didn’t have the chance!” Fangfei snorted. “All of you look fierce—if I weren’t fast, you’d have caught and beaten me already.”

Shen Zhanping was angered by her audacity. “Sister-in-law, don’t lie! You were the one who hit Cuixiang. Not one finger of ours touched you!”

“Shut up, all of you! Aren’t you ashamed?”

Shen Jianhua bellowed. Though he said “all,” everyone knew who he meant.

He glared at Li Guiying and Shen Zhanping. “Sister-in-law, Zhanping, what are you trying to do? Lay hands on Fangfei? Even though Zhanxun isn’t home, Sun Xiujun and I are still here. Do you think you can punish my wife?”

“Second Uncle, I didn’t! It’s not like that, you’ve misunderstood…”

Shen Zhanping felt wronged. He and Liu Wenjing had only followed their mother and sister outside—they hadn’t meant to touch Fangfei.

Though he did think Fangfei’s mouth was sharp, and she deserved a talking-to.

Shen Jianhua ignored him, his gaze like a blade, fixed on his eldest brother, Shen Jianguo. “Big Brother, if you’re eager for me to vacate the room, just tell me. Why make Sister-in-law trouble a child?”

Sun Xiujun mocked Li Guiying. “Eldest Aunt went snooping in her niece-in-law’s room. Does that look like an elder showing respect? She called my daughter uneducated—who’s really uneducated here?”

Li Guiying, caught in the embarrassment of her son and daughter-in-law’s public ridicule, flushed red.

Cuixiang, seeing her parents lose face, glared hatefully at Fangfei—the culprit—and cried to Shen Jianhua. “Fangfei hit me first!”

“She insulted my sister-in-law first, that’s why she hit you,” Cuijuan argued.

Sun Xiujun tugged at her daughter. “Cuixiang, why did Fangfei hit you?”

“Because you insulted her upbringing, and then her mother! If I had been there, I would have slapped you twice more—teach the Shen family how to speak, so you don’t embarrass the family after marriage!”

Cuixiang dabbed at her tears, humiliated.

Shen Zhanping noticed the crowd growing. Seeing his parents publicly humiliated, he gestured to Liu Wenjing to defuse the situation.

She understood and nodded slightly. She hadn’t spoken before, wanting to avoid showing force too soon. Newly married, she didn’t want to draw attention.

Even so, she had been observing the second branch closely. Initially, she had thought they were easygoing, unlike the scheming third branch or calculating in-laws.

But recent events had made her reassessed.

The second branch had claimed the run-down southern house during the split. On the surface, it looked like a loss, but being away from the old home would be peaceful. They still had half a plot of land and could apply for another.

And Fangfei’s confrontation, plus Shen Jianhua and Sun Xiujun’s sharp words, had publicly humiliated the elders, leaving the eldest branch embarrassed.
