On the way home, Ye Fangfei suddenly remembered something: did she need a business license to open the shop?

She realized it would be wise to ask first. To avoid unnecessary trouble in the future, every required document had to be in order.

Since she had other tasks to handle the next day, Ye Fangfei decided to leave the business license matter to Ye Xihu.

This was where having a partner truly paid off—without Xihu, she would have had to run all over town herself.

Ye Xihu didn’t know much about business licenses, but since his sister mentioned it, he decided to inquire the next day. “Little sis, don’t worry about this. Tomorrow I’ll first check with the oven master, then take care of the license.”

Ye Fangfei gave a small nod from the back seat and then brought up another plan.

“Xihu, the house we rented has three storefronts, right? I was thinking of using the two connected ones to sell pastries, and the separate ones for marinated intestines. What do you think?”

Ye Xihu wholeheartedly approved. He was about to discuss it further when he said, “Little sis, we’re on the same page. Thirty-five yuan a month is expensive—we must make the most of it. Every bit of profit counts. Since it’s hot, we can put an ice cream box outside and sell sodas wholesale. Even if we only make three or two yuan a day, it offsets the rent.”

Ye Fangfei gave him a thumbs-up. “Xihu, you’re a genius in business. With your advice, it’ll be impossible for us not to get rich.”

“Little sis, you’re flattering me too much. I’m just following along to enjoy the benefits,” Xihu teased. “But after you said that I feel a little uneasy.”

Ye Fangfei laughed heartily from the back seat.

The two of them bantered all the way home. By the time they arrived, the sun had already set, and Ye Dahu and the others hadn’t returned.

Ye Fangfei tidied herself up and prepared to return to the Shen family compound. Before leaving, she told Ye Xihu:

“Xihu, when the others get back, tell them it’s been too hot these days. Why not let them stay in the city for now? The house is empty anyway. This way, no one has to suffer the daily commute.”

Xihu nodded. “Got it. I’ll tell them. You better hurry—don’t want you riding in the dark.”

Zhou Hongyu had picked a few sweet melons from her son’s plot and placed them in Ye Fangfei’s bag. “I heard from Cuijuan that your family didn’t plant any. Take these home for your in-laws to try.”

“Thanks, Mom.” Ye Fangfei had intended to bring some egg cakes but today had been too busy.

“Do you want me to escort you? I could give a piece of my mind to those women who bullied you,” Zhou Hongyu said through gritted teeth.

Ye Fangfei waved her off with a smile. “Cuijuan already said we’re splitting the household soon. I’m not bothering with them anymore.”

She teased her mother further: “Don’t worry, Mom. I won’t be taken advantage of. Don’t you know whose daughter I am?”

Zhou Hongyu laughed and patted her shoulder. “You little devil, go on now.”

Ye Fangfei got off her bicycle and was about to open the gate when Shen Cuijuan came from the south.

“Sis-in-law, you’re back?” she hurried over.

“Yes.” Ye Fangfei noticed the shovel on her shoulder and a bucket in her hand. “What were you doing?”

Shen Cuijuan couldn’t hide her excitement. “Sis-in-law, we split the household! This yard goes to Grandpa and Grandma, Uncle, and Little Uncle.”

“We’re moving into the old courtyard where Great-Grandpa used to live. Mom and Dad said once it’s ready, our family will move there. No more squeezing in with them.”

“Really? That’s wonderful!” Ye Fangfei’s eyes sparkled. Finally, she could be free of that family.

Liu Wenjing came out of the house, saw the two whispering at the gate, and curled her lips in disdain before turning into the main room.

Ye Fangfei noticed her hostile expression, rolled her eyes, and let out a heavy “hmph.” Not a single loss would she take.

Shen Cuijuan covered her mouth to giggle, put down her things in the yard, then pulled a set of keys from her neck. “Sis-in-law, I’ve been sleeping in your room these past few nights. As long as I went out, I locked the door. No one else went in.”

“Thanks, little sister.”

Ye Fangfei placed her bag on the bed, pushed the bicycle into the shed in the back yard, and locked it. From now on, no one except the second house members could ride her bicycle—no exceptions.

Just as she finished locking it, Shen Zhanping came out of the toilet. Fangfei, holding grudges, turned her face away completely, not even sparing him a glance, and went back to the front yard.

Zhanping shook his head in disbelief. His sister-in-law was getting more outrageous by the day.

Passing by the locked bicycle, he laughed in frustration. He had never seen such a woman—utterly merciless, stingy, and sharp-eyed.

Ye Fangfei went to the front yard, ready to go back inside, when she saw Li Guiying in her room.

“What are you doing, Aunt? Why are you going through my things?” she shouted.

Several people came out of the rooms at her commotion.

Li Guiying knew this little girl was deliberately shouting. She thumped her thigh in anger and retorted:

“Fangfei, don’t talk nonsense! I just came to check my house. I didn’t touch your things.”

She shot a smug look at Ye Fangfei. “You don’t know yet, but this room is now ours. In a couple of days, you’ll have to move out.”

“Why wait for a couple of days? What are you doing here now? Do you have some hidden agenda?” Ye Fangfei crossed her arms and sneered.

“Moving out is easy. Just get your old house ready, and we’ll move immediately. Who wants to stay with you?”

She muttered loudly as she spoke, “No sense of elders! Luckily, we’ve split households. If I had to live with people like this, I’d go crazy.”

Without giving Li Guiying a chance to argue, she pushed her aside, slammed the door, leaving everyone dumbstruck.

This was Ye Fangfei’s usual tactic: finish the argument, then retreat, giving no chance for the other party to retaliate.

Li Guiying seethed, nearly fainting from anger, but she had no justification—so she clenched her teeth and returned inside.

Shen Zhanping, seeing his mother insulted, clenched his fists but restrained himself.

Shen Cuixiang couldn’t stand it. Standing in the yard, she hurled insults: “Like mother, like daughter. Her mother is fierce, and she raised her daughter without manners.”

“Our family is doomed to marry such a woman, bringing shame to the Shen family.”

Her words were sharp, attacking not only Ye Fangfei but her family as well.

Inside, Ye Fangfei only laughed. Shen Cuixiang’s ruckus suited her plan perfectly.

If she didn’t use this chance to completely sever ties with the main branch, would she wait for her husband to be taken advantage of later?

No such luck!

Having transmigrated, Ye Fangfei would never allow her man to become someone else’s stepping stone.

Suddenly, she flung open the door, strode a few steps toward Shen Cuixiang, and slapped her across the face.

The sharp smack fell silent over the yard, followed by another.
