Chapter 90: Night Castle 5
The chair Lan Ya casually grabbed was a solid rosewood chair, not light in weight. But Lan Ya seemed to feel no weight from the chair at all as she swung it fiercely while shedding tears.
The person with a ferocious appearance on the opposite side was caught off guard and got hit directly.
The heavy rosewood chair struck his sturdy body squarely.
Despite his tall and strong physique, he was shattered into pieces from the single strike of the rosewood chair.
Just like the butler who got knocked over earlier, the man’s head, limbs separated instantly, falling around the room, leaving only two legs in front of Lan Ya.
Originally the man was just missing two hands, but now his head was detached from his body, and one arm fell out from the sleeve, with the other arm still attached to the torso, like a broken plastic mannequin, his dismembered limbs scattered all over the floor.
However, unlike a plastic mannequin, the man’s severed limbs were very agile, even separated from the other parts, they could still crawl around on the floor randomly.
Lan Ya seemed shocked by the immense destructive force caused by her own strike, gripping the armrests of the chair, mouth agape as she stared blankly at the limbs in the room.
Then, the two legs in front of her took a step forward, and the other severed limbs nimbly converged towards Lan Ya as well.
The head on the ground flipped over, using the neck to prop itself up, and gazed at Lan Ya with a ghostly look.
“Why did you hit me?”
The tone carried a hint of resentment and grievance, but coupled with his terrifying face that could make a child cry, the severed head propped up on the floor looked more like a vengeful spirit coming to claim lives.
Lan Ya felt like her breathing stopped for a moment. Watching the severed limbs inching towards her, her last shred of sanity finally collapsed.
“Ahhhhh!”
“Don’t come over here!”
Tears gushed out as Lan Ya swung the chair at those two legs, kicking and hitting away the approaching severed limbs one by one.
The limbs that were originally trying to reattach to the body were knocked away again.
This was the topmost tower of the castle, with several square windows in the room, which were now open. The arms kicked out flew right out of the windows.
And downstairs, some players who had been trying to leave this place had finally found the switch to open the stone door and ran out.
It was at this very moment that the butler’s severed head was rolling in the main hall on the first floor. Some players had climbed up to higher ground, while a few others couldn’t care less about clearing the instance anymore and just wanted to get away from this place as soon as possible.
But when they finally ran out of the castle and relaxed a bit under the dark sky, breathing in the fresh air, an unknown object plummeted from the sky, landing right in front of them.
The players instinctively looked down at the object on the ground. This detached object was much lighter in color than the pitch-black ground. Just as they were startled by the sudden falling object and wanted to take a closer look at what it was, the arm on the ground suddenly moved, like a stiff snake, wriggling towards the castle using the force of its elbow joint.
There was an uncanny sense of familiarity.
The players had originally fled because they couldn’t accept those severed hands and heads crawling all over the place, but even after coming out, they still couldn’t avoid them.
Seeing the eerie object crawling relentlessly, getting closer and closer to them, the players’ hair stood on end, not even caring about their teammates anymore, and fled at full speed into the dense bushes.
“It’s a ghost!”
In the blink of an eye, only the arm struggling to return to the castle remained on the ground.
Lan Ya was still swinging the chair, her only means of self-defense now.
But with her “self-defense”, the severed limbs on the ground only multiplied, with arms splitting into two pieces, legs separating at the knees and ankles, and the torso would probably have split into several parts too if not for the cover of clothes.
Apart from the lack of bloodstains, the entire room looked like a dismemberment scene.
No matter how strong Lan Ya was, after such a long time, she could no longer swing the heavy rosewood chair. Seeing these wriggling severed limbs still crawling towards her, she could only try to save herself by kicking away the approaching limbs.
Limbs flew out of the windows, scattered around the room, and were kicked towards the stairs from the doorway, strewn everywhere.
Lan Ya cried miserably, panting heavily, gripping the armrests of the chair, using it as a barrier, but this barrier was not solid, as the severed limbs kept converging from all sides.
Help!
Lan Ya silently screamed, but unfortunately she was the only one here, with no one to come to her rescue.
Suddenly, Lan Ya remembered that she still had teammates, Zhou Zhou and Al were downstairs, she had to go find them.
She had to go find Zhou Zhou!
Lan Ya abruptly let go of the armrests and ran downstairs.
The severed limbs she had kicked out from the doorway also struggled to climb up the stairs, trying to get back into the room.
The severed limbs encountered Lan Ya on the stairs. Lan Ya cried and screamed while kicking these limbs away. The limbs that were about to return to the room rolled back down the steps, getting further and further away.
At this point, the person inside the room felt very aggrieved. He was just about to put himself back together when his two hands suddenly ran out. Before he could find his hands, a deranged player barged into the room and shattered his body. He felt both pain and resentment. Even if he wanted to go over and explain that he hadn’t done anything, why did the other person hit him? Instead, they hit him even harder.
As a result, his entire body was now shattered beyond recognition, unable to be reassembled.
He could only miserably gather the remaining limbs and barely form a movable body to go downstairs and search for the rest of his parts.
He could sense that one of his arms was locked outside the door, and since the stone door was now tightly closed, the arm could not enter. The butler was also nowhere to be found, so he had to find the remaining parts himself.
Thus, a person with a monstrous head, no arms, and only one leg, hopped down the stairs.
Lan Ya ran downstairs in tears, but the main hall now only had a few players huddled together in the farthest corner from the stairs. They didn’t dare to move recklessly either, after all, having witnessed the butler’s head falling off, although the person was now resting at the corner of the stairs and looked intact just like before, the players were still traumatized, fearing he might perform another dismemberment scene right then and there.
“Excuse me, have any of you seen my teammates?” Lan Ya asked in tears. At this point, her forehead was covered in sweat, looking utterly disheveled. Even her eyes were swollen red from constantly crying, clearly shaken by fright.
“I saw them go up to find you,” a player said sympathetically in a soft voice.
“Thank you.” After a quick thanks, Lan Ya hurried upstairs again.
She paid no attention to the two figures resting at the corner of the stairs, single-mindedly wanting to find Zhou Zhou and Al. Perhaps it was because they were her teammates, or maybe the impression they left on her during the Deep Sea Creature instance was too profound. Lan Ya now had only one thought, to find them, and she wouldn’t be afraid anymore once she found them.
The wind from Lan Ya’s running brushed past the cheek of the player who had fainted, and he groggily woke up.
He leaned against the old butler’s shoulder, blinking in a daze. Sensing someone beside him, he instinctively looked over.
And made direct eye contact with the old butler.
The expressionless old butler turned his head to gaze at the bewildered player.
The player’s consciousness didn’t seem fully lucid yet, staring blankly at the old butler as the two held each other’s gaze, neither saying a word.
The two sat side by side in the corner, the player leaning on the old butler’s shoulder. His expression shifted from initial confusion to sheer horror as he finally recalled what had happened before.
His eyes widened in terror, staring at the nearby old butler, before rolling his eyes and passing out again.
Seeing the unconscious player still leaning on his shoulder, the old butler let out a cold snort and shifted his still rather stiff body to the side.
Without the support, the player immediately slid down along the wall, ending up in an awkward twisted posture, still unconscious.
Lan Ya went upstairs to the second floor, first checking her own room, but no one was there anymore. Zhou Zhou and the others couldn’t find anyone in Lan Ya’s room, so they had to search room by room, only finding a few players hiding under beds or in closets in the other rooms. But none of these people were Lan Ya.
Lan Ya came out of the room, her face filled with helplessness and panic, gazing down the dim, quiet hallway. For a moment, she had the illusion that she was the only one left in the entire castle.
“Thump, thump, thump~”
A muffled sound came from the stairs not far away, different from the crisp sound of the old butler’s cane. This sound was unusually dull, with a very consistent rhythm.
“Zhou Zhou?”
Lan Ya’s first thought was that it was Zhou Zhou and the others coming.
When people are at their most desperate, they perceive any slight anomaly as a sign of hope emerging. The only thought in Lan Ya’s mind was that Zhou Zhou and the others had come to find her.
Lan Ya walked a few steps forward, her gaze fixed on the location of the stairs, her pace quickening. When she stepped out of the hallway and reached the stairs, she unexpectedly encountered the person coming down.
Or rather, the figure didn’t look like a single person. With a scarred face, parts of the body in reverse order, the back facing forward, and only one leg, the empty pant leg swaying slightly. Adding the severed limbs slung over the shoulder, it looked more like a demon straight out of a horror movie.
Another encounter. The moment they met, both parties’ pupils constricted, their faces etched with horror.
The incomplete castle owner wanted to turn and flee, but forgot that he currently had no arms and only one leg, making it extremely difficult to even jump down the stairs, let alone turn and run up. It was simply a feat of utmost difficulty.
Sure enough, after just a few hops trying to turn around, he fell over.
Falling on the stairs caused the barely assembled body to scatter again.
The head, torso, leg, and other severed limbs were strewn across the stairs, with only the head rolling all the way down until it hit Lan Ya’s foot and finally stopped.
After bumping into her foot, the head rolled back a little, ending up facing upwards. The castle owner then saw the ferocious player staring down at him expressionlessly.
Lan Ya had a pretty, gentle and serene appearance. With her petite figure and normally soft-spoken and shy demeanor, she looked like someone who evoked strong protective feelings. Even now without any expression on her face, she still came across as a pitiful, harmless-looking girl who wouldn’t provoke any revulsion.
Unfortunately, for the castle owner who had witnessed her other side, looking at her only filled him with trembling fear.
The ferocious player hadn’t hit him yet, did she realize he posed no danger at all? He was truly a good person.
To avoid being beaten again, the castle owner, now reduced to just a head, gave Lan Ya a dry, slightly ingratiating smile.
The moment Lan Ya saw him, her mind stopped all thought, until he flashed that creepy, eerie smile at her, causing the tears she had stifled to burst forth again.
“Waaahhhh~”
She broke down sobbing, grabbed the head off the floor, and ran towards the bathroom down the hallway.
In a virtual world, houses generally don’t have bathrooms, since there’s no physiological need in the virtual realm. However, a small portion of houses were modeled after real-world dwellings, complete with bathrooms just like reality.
This castle happened to be the real-world residence of the castle owner, so it was fully equipped with a kitchen and bathroom.
When the old butler had them choose rooms earlier, Lan Ya had noticed the bathroom down the hallway, but only glanced at it briefly since she wouldn’t be using it.
But now was different, this was the first time she could actually use it.
The bewildered, terrified head had no self-preservation ability and could only watch helplessly as the ferocious player grabbed it by the ear and ran to the bathroom.
“Put me down!”
“Help!”
“Someone please save me!”
The head screamed in horror.
“Hel…mmph.”
Lan Ya cried and threw the head into the toilet, then closed the lid and flushed it!
The actions were one continuous flow, not even considering whether such a large head could actually go down or not.
Unable to find Zhou Zhou and suffering another fright, Lan Ya ran back to her room crying, burying herself under the covers in anguished sobs.
Though the toilet in the virtual world was merely a prop without any actual function, and spotlessly clean.
But at this moment, after being thrown into the toilet and flushed with water, the head in the pitch-black toilet could no longer hold back.
He had never suffered such an indignity in his entire life.
“Waaahh~”
