Chapter 89: Night Castle 4
The players were scared unconscious on the spot. Other players who wanted to run upstairs were either on the other side, rushing upstairs without looking down, or were rolled down the stairs by the dismembered old butler.
Zhou Zhou and Alvia stood in the hall, watching the crowd panic. Several people even wanted to leave through the entrance, but didn’t know how to open the stone door, frantically feeling around the walls.
“Al…”Zhou Zhou suddenly called out to Alvia.
“What’s wrong?” Alvia came over and asked.
Zhou Zhou tried to turn his head to look at his back, but the difficulty was too high, he couldn’t see it.
“Help me look at my back.”
Zhou Zhou turned around, and on his back, a severed hand was firmly gripping his clothes.
“It seems like there’s something on my back.” Zhou Zhou said as he swayed his body, causing the severed hand to sway gently as well, still gripping his clothes tightly.
Alvia’s expression didn’t change at all. He glanced at the severed hand still crawling on the ground, as well as the other severed hand on Zhou Zhou’s back, and calmly said, “There’s a hand on your back.”
Zhou Zhou swayed a few more times, he could indeed feel something on his back, but he couldn’t see it himself.
“Why is it holding onto me and not letting go?”
The two of them were too calm, in stark contrast to the surrounding players who were panicking and fleeing due to the severed hands.
“Although it looks a bit strange, these severed hands aren’t dangerous. Do you want me to remove it?”
Zhou Zhou swayed and swayed, but still couldn’t shake off the severed hand. He looked around, his brows furrowed slightly, “If it’s not dangerous, let’s leave it for now. But where did Lan Ya go?”
“She ran upstairs with the other players.” Alvia saw Lan Ya mixed in with a few players running upstairs, and she was running very fast. Despite her small stature, she took two or three steps at a time, blinking and she was already gone.
“Let’s go find her first.” Zhou Zhou found that the severed hand had no other actions, so he didn’t care about it anymore. It was better to find Lan Ya first. Lan Ya seemed shy and timid, and she might encounter danger if she was alone. Moreover, she was the first to run upstairs, probably because she was very scared of these things too.
Zhou Zhou, with a severed hand on his back, and Alvia walked upstairs together. They hadn’t gone far when a head rolled down from the stairs.
The old butler’s head was severed from his neck, but there was no blood flowing out, the cut was very smooth.
The two watched as the head rolled down the stairs and into the hall. The few remaining players in the hall were hiding on cabinets, chairs, and other high places. They had just regained their composure and could look directly at the crawling hand when they saw a head, the old butler’s head, roll in.
Although the old butler was ill-tempered and unpleasant to talk to, to see a living being instantly reduced to just a head was indeed horrifying.
But before everyone could catch their breath, the head lying on the ground suddenly opened its eyes and muttered, “It hurts~”
The players finally couldn’t hold it in anymore and started screaming again.
“Where’s my body~”
“Why can’t I see~”
With every sentence he said, he provoked another round of panic.
The old butler squinted his eyes, looking around for his body, and everyone his gaze swept over wished they had never entered this castle. Who could withstand this!
“Help, a zombie!”
“Quick, let me out!”
“Ahhhhhh~”
And when they saw the severed hands that were originally crawling all over the floor using their four nimble fingers to support themselves as they ran towards the old man’s head, then rolled the head using the back of their hand against his cheek, this bizarre combination made the players scream hysterically.
Zhou Zhou, who was originally going to find Lan Ya, stopped in his tracks when he saw the severed hands trying to roll the old man’s head towards the stairs.
He looked up at the corner of the stairs, where the old man’s limbs and torso were lying haphazardly on the ground. His legs were struggling to stand up, but without support they could only spin on the ground. His torso and arms were also moving occasionally on the ground.
The scattered remains all seemed conscious, and at close range they looked extremely horrifying.
Was this hand trying to move the head back to the butler’s body?
Zhou Zhou thought for a moment, then walked over to the old man’s head and picked it up from the ground, then headed up the stairs.
Like putting together a puzzle, he reassembled the old man’s body, putting together the head, torso, and limbs. The severed parts slowly fused back together, leaving obvious scars at the cut points.
“Um, are you okay?” Zhou Zhou asked the old man.
Perhaps because Zhou Zhou had helped him, the old man lay on the ground, his voice slightly calmer and hoarse, “I’m fine, but I’ll probably need to rest for a bit before I can move.”
He answered Zhou Zhou’s question in a very calm manner, as if nothing had happened before.
“Okay then.” Zhou Zhou moved the old man to the corner of the wall, letting him lean against it. This way, if anyone needed to go upstairs, they wouldn’t step on the old man.
He then looked at the player who had fainted nearby.
He remembered the last time someone was scared unconscious in an instance was Ke Li. This player should wake up soon too.
So Zhou Zhou moved the player lying on the ground over to the old man’s side. The two of them leaned tightly against each other, and the unconscious player kept tilting towards the old butler due to his position, eventually resting his head on the other’s shoulder.
The butler couldn’t move at the moment, and didn’t pay any attention to the unconscious player next to him.
“Sir, we’re going to go upstairs to find our companions. You rest here for a bit.”
The butler nodded slightly, he still looked a bit weak, then closed his eyes without saying anything more.
Just as Alvia and Zhou Zhou were about to go upstairs, a player’s shout came from the hall: “Hey, big shot, big bro, big guy, please, could you take this hand away too?”
The severed hands were still crawling all over the floor, trying to crawl onto anyone they encountered. When they met Zhou Zhou, a tough guy holding a head in his bare hands, they naturally wanted him to help take this hand away too.
Seeing the players hiding on cabinets, chairs, and even trying to climb up to the top of the fireplace to avoid the severed hand, their faces showed panic and pleading. Finally, Zhou Zhou agreed.
After all, it was just a small matter for him. He couldn’t understand why the players were so afraid, and the players couldn’t understand where these two tough guys came from, not knowing if it was because they were bold or indifferent, daring to grab such bizarre things barehanded.
Under the shocked gaze of the players, he went back down and picked up the severed hand.
“Let’s go.” Zhou Zhou, with a severed hand on his back and another one in his hand, said to Alvia.
The two went upstairs together. During this time, Alvia asked, “Aren’t you afraid?”
“Afraid of what?”
Alvia pointed at the hand Zhou Zhou was holding.
Zhou Zhou was very puzzled, “Didn’t you say it’s not dangerous? And what’s there to be afraid of just a hand?”
Alvia raised his brows slightly, smiled without saying anything.
Standing on the second floor, Zhou Zhou found it was very quiet, and he didn’t know where Lan Ya had run off to.
So where should they start looking?
“Let’s go to her room first. After all, when someone is afraid, they’ll subconsciously run to a familiar place. Her previous room also counts as a relatively familiar place,” Alvia suggested.
So the two went to Lan Ya’s room to look for her.
At this time, Lan Ya, who had followed a few other players upstairs, was not in her room. Originally, she was already timid, and the moving severed hand had a huge impact on her. At that moment, her mind went blank, and she subconsciously followed the people in front and ran upstairs. But when the others ran into rooms on the second and third floors, Lan Ya was the only one who kept running straight up to the highest floor.
Fortunately, she ran fast and didn’t see the scene of the old butler being knocked into pieces.
When she came to her senses, she was alone at the door of the fifth floor.
The narrow, pitch-black staircase behind her might have the severed hand crawling up at any moment. Just thinking about possibly running into the moving hand if she went downstairs made Lan Ya want to cry.
She didn’t dare go down.
The big door behind her was ajar. Lan Ya, with reddened eyes, sniffled, then softly asked the door, “Hello, is anyone there?”
The ajar door opened a bit more, as if blown by the wind. Lan Ya didn’t want to enter an unfamiliar room, but she also didn’t dare go downstairs.
Seeing the light coming through the doorway, and the pitch-black staircase behind her, Lan Ya hesitated for a long time before finally mustering her courage and gently pushing the door open.
The room inside was as bright as day. After being in the dim stairwell for a long time, Lan Ya squinted her eyes at the sudden brightness.
Several bright lamps hung from the ceiling in the room. Under the lights, Lan Ya saw a tall figure standing inside, squinting her eyes.
“I’m sorry, I came in without permission.” Lan Ya apologized to the person inside as she blinked several times, gradually adjusting to the brightness.
This should be the castle owner.
Lan Ya thought to herself as her recovered vision looked towards the mysterious castle owner.
The person inside was standing with their back to Lan Ya, wearing a black suit. Although the tall figure looked a bit strange in the suit, Lan Ya felt there was something off about the person.
She stood at the entrance, slowly taking a step forward, and realized the person had no arms.
The empty sleeves hung naturally at the person’s sides, in stark contrast to their tall figure, which was the reason they looked strange in the suit.
At this point, although Lan Ya felt it was a bit strange, this situation was still somewhat normal. She politely asked, “Hello, are you the castle owner?” After all, this was the highest floor of the castle, the place the old butler had mentioned was where the castle owner resided.
The person facing away from her suddenly moved.
Without any movement from his body, his head spun 180 degrees to face Lan Ya and asked, “Have you seen my hands?”
His face was covered in scars, looking ferocious and terrifying. Especially with the head that could turn 180 degrees, it left the already timid Lan Ya frozen in place.
Seeing that Lan Ya didn’t respond, the person turned their whole body 180 degrees to face her, then walked towards her.
“Are you okay?” The person’s ferocious face got closer and closer to Lan Ya.
“Did you see my hands down there? My hands ran away, and I can’t find them.”
Was it those severed hands? Did the moving severed hands belong to this person?
The person kept talking, but the petite Lan Ya suddenly charged at him instead.
Despite her appearance looking like she was terrified to the extreme, her actions were completely opposite from her expression.
“Ahhhhh, help, there’s a monster!”
“Wuuu~”
Lan Ya grabbed a chair from the room and swung it at the person.
