Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

[What should I do if my pet doesn’t want to eat after just arriving at its new home?]

After ten minutes of stalemate, Bai Gaoxing watches as Li Pu opens his laptop and types this question.

The most popular advice: The pet has just arrived in a new environment and may not be ready to eat yet. Don’t disturb it; it will eat when it’s hungry.

Pet care tips online are varied. Li Pu quickly browses through a few posts and looks like he thinks it makes sense.

Well, it’ll just have to be hungry then.

Bai Gaoxing paces back and forth behind Li Pu, experiencing one of the disadvantages of being a bird. In his memory, this parrot had just eaten a meal in the morning, but now it feels faint from hunger.

Birds, if they’re too hungry, might just die on you.

But he doesn’t want to eat bird food.

After a bit of mental struggle, Bai Gaoxing suddenly remembers the steaming food on the table.

He looks up and sees a plate of rice, a dish of stir-fried vegetables, and a bowl of tomato egg soup. The presentation is excellent, and compared to the bowl of bird food, it’s like a feast.

Bai Gaoxing glances at Li Pu, who is still engrossed in the pet care guide, and quietly makes his move. He flutters from the sofa to the dining chair and then jumps onto the dining table.

Isn’t the meal right here?

Bai Gaoxing’s eyes gleam as he looks at the braised pork ribs, stir-fried rapeseed, and tomato-egg soup in front of him. He pecks at the thickest piece of pork ribs.

“Dabai!”

Li Pu scolds from behind, startling Bai Gaoxing. But he knows this opportunity is rare. He quickly takes two bites, but before he can take a third, Li Pu’s hand pushes him away.

“Dabai? Spit it out,” Li Pu says, frowning slightly.

Quack, quack.

Bai Gaoxing pretends not to understand, savoring the taste before swallowing it with a defiant look, as if to say, “What are you going to do about it?”

He has thought it through. If this person really dares to dig his throat, he will—

Peck lightly. Bai Gaoxing eyes Li Pu’s slender, clean fingers and, after evaluating his current state, decides it’s better not to resort to violence.

But it must be said, this man’s cooking skills are impressive.

Bai Gaoxing secretly glances at the dishes on the table, not realizing that this action is very conspicuous in Li Pu’s eyes. Li Pu sighs helplessly and takes a porcelain bowl with a white background and gray flowers.

“Don’t eat this recklessly.”

It’s the bowl with bird food again.

Bai Gaoxing looks at the contents of the bowl with a resigned expression before turning his head away.

Sick pets are really hard to care for. This is the first thought that crosses Li Pu’s mind.

He looks at the parrot, who is sulking and nearly burying its head in its chest, with the small bald spot on its chest even more prominent in this posture.

A bit of a headache.

Li Pu observes the parrot’s reaction and remembers that many animals can’t eat human food, or else they might… what was it, anyway, it’s not good.

After a moment of silence, he suddenly remembers something his friend left him.

Oh, the care manual…

Bai Gaoxing, determined not to eat the bird food, waits silently until he hears Li Pu searching for something.

“Wutong parrot…”

Li Pu comes back holding a booklet, flipping through it as he walks.

Finally, he finds the page, which reads: The Wutong parrot primarily feeds on sunflower seeds and grains; supplemented with fruits and vegetables (see notes for restrictions); can also eat a small amount of meat (such as insects and snails).

A small amount…

Li Pu feels a bit relieved after reading this. Since Dabai has only eaten a couple of bites of ribs, it shouldn’t be a big issue.

He looks up and sees the big white parrot sneaking around the porcelain bowl, trying to steal some vegetables. Perhaps because it knows it is doing something wrong, it looks nervous, its Wutong leaf-like feather crown fluffed up like a fan.

“Dabai,” Li Pu calls softly.

Bai Gaoxing looks up with wide eyes, startled by the man’s presence.

Why are you so stern!

If you don’t want me to eat, I won’t!

Bai Gaoxing looks in grief and anger at the dish with steam gradually dissipating, then wobbles back to his spot.

“You can eat this,” Li Pu says, bringing out the other foods from the care manual. In addition to the nourishing pills and grains, there is also a large bag of sunflower seeds.

The black-and-white sunflower seeds are poured into the bowl, covering the bland bird food.

Sunflower seeds… not bad.

Bai Gaoxing picks up a sunflower seed under Li Pu’s watchful eye. The moment he picks it up, it feels as if something has penetrated his soul. His beak cracks the seed open with a satisfying “click,” and his agile tongue peels out the fragrant kernel.

Oh-oh! I know how to crack sunflower seeds!

Bai Gaoxing’s eyes light up. This is another excellent skill!

He didn’t expect sunflower seeds to be so delicious. Bai Gaoxing picks up another one. The two bites of meat had been insufficient. Compared to the human food he wants but can’t eat, he has to settle for the acceptable sunflower seeds to fill him up.

“Crack, crack…” The crisp sound of cracking seeds fills the air. Li Pu watches for a while before sitting down at the table to enjoy his lunch in peace.

He doesn’t notice that the parrot, whose head has been buried in the bowl, only raises it after a while to stare at him quietly.

Oh, sooner or later, I’ll get a share of that meal, Bai Gaoxing thinks.

Li Pu has the habit of taking a nap at noon. After eating, he goes to the bedroom, leaving Bai Gaoxing alone in the living room.

Li Pu has the habit of taking a nap at noon. After eating, he goes to the bedroom, leaving Bai Gaoxing alone in the living room.

It’s really weird.

Bai Gaoxing glances at Li Pu’s profile once more. In the past, while immersed in major forums and software, he has seen a lot of entertainment content. Even if he isn’t a fan of celebrities, he is familiar with many stars. A figure like Li Pu should be widely known, especially with such a unique name…

It’s outrageous.

With a sigh of resignation, Bai Gaoxing accepts the fact that he has traveled to another world.

And he has transmigrated into a bird.

He sits silently in front of the computer screen for a while, closes the web page, and begins searching for various information about Li Pu.

After all, Li Pu is going to be his future, legitimate owner, so it’s not a bad thing to learn more about him.

At 2:30 in the afternoon, Li Pu wakes up from his nap.

He habitually goes to the living room to get some water and opens the door to see Dabai, who has flown from the dining table to the floor.

……

The computer screen on the table still displays the parrot care guide he had previously searched for. It’s likely that Dabai came across it while playing on the table.

Li Pu places the wayward mouse back in its position, tucks the computer under the coffee table, and goes to the kitchen to get some water. Little does he know that Bai Gaoxing, who is pretending to search for rice on the ground, has a pounding heart.

He is scared to death!

It was a close call; he almost didn’t manage to close the search page in time!

Bai Gaoxing hadn’t expected Li Pu to come out so quickly. From the sound to the bedroom door opening, it might not have even been three seconds.

Those long legs are quite impressive, huh!

But…

Bai Gaoxing anxiously glances at the spot where the computer had been stored. He hasn’t had time to delete the browsing history. He isn’t sure if Li Pu has the habit of checking the history page…

If he discovers it… He shudders at the thought.

Bai Gaoxing composes himself, flaps his wings, and hops onto the sofa, positioning himself behind Li Pu, who is now holding a glass of water.

The man holds a cup of water and continues to browse parrot care guides on his phone. He is quite attentive. Bai Gaoxing hopes that Li Pu will take good care of him. Despite not being able to enjoy delicious food, he has a decent amount of freedom here.

However, brother, why hasn’t he prepared a water bowl yet?

I want to drink water!

Bai Gaoxing stares intently at the cup in Li Pu’s hand. The fish tank water from the morning is no longer enough. He is thirsty again and now just wants to drink water.

The problem is, how can he express his need without scaring the other person?

“Ahem…” He clears his throat.

The man is still looking at his phone.

“Ahem, hello, look here!”

Li Pu: “…?” Is he hearing things?

“Hello? Hello? I’m here!” Bai Gaoxing says.

Li Pu turns his head, looking a bit surprised.

“I, water, thirsty, drink water~” Bai Gaoxing says, nodding and trying to express his need for water with short phrases. He thinks he has made himself clear! Does he need to spell it out more?

Fortunately, Li Pu understands his meaning and immediately gets up to pour a bowl of water for him. Bai Gaoxing quickly hops onto the table and drinks noisily.

After drinking, Bai Gaoxing burps and goes back to stand behind Li Pu.

He happens to glance at the screen and sees that Li Pu has exited the parrot care website and is now browsing a shopping app.

In the shopping cart is a row of very expensive bird cages.

Bai Gaoxing is curious and unconsciously stretches his head forward, inadvertently pressing his head against Li Pu’s cheek.

Li Pu, still surprised by Dabai’s sudden speaking, feels the furry touch on his face and tries to raise his phone.

He asks, “Dabai, which one do you like?”

Li Pu’s deep voice comes close to Bai Gaoxing’s ear, and the phone screen seems to come even closer.

Bai Gaoxing is a bit troubled. He wants to say he doesn’t like cages, but seeing the dazzling array of freebies and toys inside, he hesitates. Trying it out doesn’t seem too bad… after all, this person probably wouldn’t lock him up…

Before Bai Gaoxing can react, he has already jumped onto the man’s shoulder and points at the flashiest one with his beak, “Squawk!”
