I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 2
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
On his first day as a parrot, Bai Gaoxing almost becomes a drowned parrot.
While floundering in the water, he nearly thinks he’ll end up traveling back by drowning. Fortunately, the man rescues him, narrowly avoiding an early demise.
He also manages to drink enough water in the process.
Bai Gaoxing sneezes, glances at his bedraggled reflection in the glass coffee table, and almost laughs.
But soon, the amusement fades.
The feathers, once wet, feel cold and heavy, weighing him down as if several kilograms are draped over him. Li Pu, who had been there earlier, is nowhere to be found, leaving Bai Gaoxing completely isolated and helpless.
It seems he can only rely on himself.
Bai Gaoxing notices the tissues on the coffee table. Although they are unopened, he knows that such a soft item won’t withstand a parrot’s beak for long.
Especially since he’s definitely not a small parrot like a budgie.
When the man fished him out of the fish tank, he couldn’t hold him with one hand, which makes Bai Gaoxing realize his own size. Unfortunately, there’s no mirror, so he can only vaguely see his outline from the reflection in the glass.
Large parrots, after all, can bite off a person’s fingers.
Bai Gaoxing smacks his beak, steps on the tissue with one foot, and lowers his head to hook the open end with the tip of his beak. He twists his neck and pulls, tearing the tissue packaging open like crispy skin.
There’s a full pack of tissue paper. Bai Gaoxing feels around and grabs a piece, pulling it up forcefully, resulting in a large clump coming out.
…How awkward.
Bai Gaoxing carefully opens his beak, picks out a piece of tissue, and tries to use his claws to wipe his feathers.
But reality is harsher than his ideal.
Not used to using bird claws, Bai Gaoxing struggles. He finds that he can’t reach his back at all. More water drips from his tail feathers, soaking the tissues piled beside him and forming a large, soggy mess.
“Gah…” Bai Gaoxing’s brain feels like it’s short-circuiting.
Forget it. He decides to go all in. He pulls out another handful of tissue paper, spreads it out, and lies down in the pile, rolling around in it.
When Li Pu comes out with a hair dryer and a small blanket, he finds the large white parrot buried in the heap of paper, wrapped in half-dried and scattered tissues.
Li Pu pauses for a moment before walking over with the items.
He doesn’t usually use these things, so they have been stored away by the housekeeper. He’s only been away for a short while, and the parrot has already made a mess of the coffee table.
It seems this parrot is… quite a handful?
A feeling of pity wells up in Li Pu. He likes small animals, but due to his irregular work schedule, he fears he can’t care for them properly, so he only keeps fish.
Now it seems that having this little guy isn’t so bad after all.
Li Pu picks up the large piece of soggy paper and helps Dabai, who is struggling with the tissues, to lift his head.
…For some reason, he thinks he sees a look of gratitude on the parrot’s face.
“Come and dry off,” Li Pu says, holding out a towel and a hair dryer.
Okay.
Bai Gaoxing rolls on the ground, stands up from the coffee table, and walks toward the man.
Li Pu is stunned for a moment. He just said that and was ready to catch the bird and deal with the mess, but he didn’t anticipate that this large parrot would be so responsive, as if it could understand human speech.
On further reflection, the “help” it called out when it fell into the fish tank also seemed timely.
…It must be a coincidence.
Li Pu looks at the parrot in front of him. Since entering the room, it has only made a single sound, likely a result of being abandoned by its previous owner; it’s impossible to let down its guard easily.
With this in mind, Li Pu gently wraps the parrot in the towel and places it on his lap.
Soon, the surroundings become warm. Bai Gaoxing squints his eyes and begins to enjoy the service from the actor.
Although Li Pu’s expression remains neutral, his actions are incredibly thoughtful. His warm fingers brush through Bai Gaoxing’s soft feathers and rub his ear holes. Bai Gaoxing can’t resist the instinct of his new body and lets out a contented hum, feeling both embarrassed and comfortable.
He had previously thought it cute when seeing a bird squint and tilt its head in comfort. Now, having experienced it himself, he understands the appeal.
It is indeed irresistible.
Bai Gaoxing can’t help but nuzzle Li Pu’s hand, enjoying the experience of being a pet bird.
After a while, Bai Gaoxing sees Li Pu pick up the hair dryer again and thinks that this person must never have owned a bird. The hair dryer is so loud—doesn’t he worry about stressing a bird out?
Fortunately, he isn’t really a parrot.
Bai Gaoxing braces himself for the loud noise, but when the hair dryer switches on, a soft, warm breeze brushes against his face. It is nothing like the roaring dryers in the college dorm bathroom.
Ah, right, he forgot—this guy’s rich.
He glances up at the expensive-looking hair dryer and then at the luxurious Dabuluo watch on Li Pu’s wrist, sighing audibly.
The sound is so pronounced that even Li Pu, holding the hair dryer, notices.
Li Pu is both helpless and amused. Could it be that this parrot also knows what it means to be worried?
Amused and puzzled, Li Pu asks, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Bai Gaoxing replies politely.
Li Pu: “……?”
Bai Gaoxing: “…”
Wait, did he just speak out loud?!
In a panic, Bai Gaoxing quickly feigns ignorance and coughs a few times to cover his slip-up.
Sure enough, his ability to talk hasn’t disappeared with his transformation into a parrot, but his voice now sounds mechanical and dull, like an old Little Boy brand radio.
For a brief moment, he mourns the loss of his original voice and continues coughing as if it were all a game. He only relaxes when he notices that Li Pu has stopped paying attention to him.
Fortunately, he is now a parrot. Parrots mimic speech, so it won’t raise too much suspicion. Besides, what if he switches back in a few days? He doesn’t want to leave a mess for his original body, especially since the real parrot is genuinely sick.
Mainly… he is afraid of being dissected.
Bai Gaoxing calms himself down and thinks for a long time before deciding not to reveal his ability to speak, which is far too abnormal for anyone to understand.
However, holding back from speaking is stressful, and he can’t guarantee he won’t slip up one day.
“Buzz buzz—” Just as Bai Gaoxing is debating how to act, the sudden vibration of a phone interrupts his thoughts. Li Pu clicks on it and sees a voice message from Peter Wang.
[By the way, I forgot to mention, parrots are direct animals. They can’t hold it in for long, so be careful with your sofa.]
[Budgies only leave little green pea-sized droppings, but Dabai… good luck with that.]
[Better buy an apron and wear it every day, hahahahaha…]
Bai Gaoxing watches Li Pu type a response and then continue using the hair dryer. He stifles the urge to speak up.
The water on his feathers dries quickly. Bai Gaoxing pecks at his feathers, which are about 70% dry, and plans to inspect the room next. Just as he is about to move, a ringing sound echoes.
It isn’t from a phone.
Bai Gaoxing glances around and realizes the sound is coming from the video doorbell when Li Pu stands up and walks toward the door.
Someone is here.
A figure appears on the door screen: a composed, neatly dressed young man. However, a hint of nervousness shows in the sweat on his forehead.
“Dashu.”
“Brother Li, I brought what you asked for.”
“Thank you for your help.” Li Pu steps forward to open the door, expressing his gratitude as he reaches to take the items.
“No, no, I’ll take it to the kitchen for you.” The young man dodges Li Pu’s hand and walks directly to the room on the left. From his ease and familiarity, it is clear he has been here many times before.
Bai Gaoxing tilts his head, curious about who this person is.
Not long after, the young man emerges from the kitchen and raises his head—locking eyes with Bai Gaoxing.
“Oh my god!” he shrieks, stumbling backward a few steps. “Brother Li! What is that thing on your sofa?!”
Ten minutes later, the young man sits stiffly across from Li Pu, gripping a water cup with trembling hands and taking a cautious sip.
From their conversation, Bai Gaoxing learns the young man’s name is Mei Youshu, about the same age as Li Pu, and apparently, Li Pu’s assistant.
Mei Youshu is familiar with Li Pu’s routines during his filming breaks and often helps him buy daily necessities. This time, he has come to deliver groceries—if it weren’t for Peter Wang bringing the parrot today, Li Pu had planned to go out himself.
Bai Gaoxing, feeling bored, tidies his feathers and forms a general impression of the young man: “reliable.”
But… it seems like he is quite afraid of him?
“Brother Li, why did you suddenly decide to keep this?” Mei Youshu’s voice, like his expression, is filled with unease.
“A friend gave it to me.”
Noticing his assistant’s discomfort, Li Pu asks, “What’s wrong with you?”
The young man looks like he is on the verge of tears. “I’m terrified of chickens.”
“Chickens?”
Li Pu blinks in confusion before glancing at Dabai, who is nestled on the sofa, half of his backside sticking out from under a towel.
Stifling a laugh, Li Pu clears his throat and says seriously, “This is a parrot. A friend gifted it to me today.”
“A parrot?” Mei Youshu shudders again. “Can a parrot… be this big?”
“It’s a large breed,” Li Pu replies, lifting the towel to reveal the full view of Bai Gaoxing, the beautiful white parrot.
Mei Youshu takes a quick glance and recoils. “I’m also scared of birds with sharp beaks like this.”
Bai Gaoxing feels numb. He never thought the first time he is feared would be because he is a bird.
A parrot looks more intimidating than his original self, huh?
Li Pu ponders what to do if his assistant is afraid of his pet.
He asks, “Did you bring everything?”
“Yes,” Mei Youshu replies, pulling out a thick folder and a laptop bag. “This is the script for the next movie. The electronic version is on the computer.” He then asks, “Brother Li, what are your plans for this vacation?”
“Same as always, take a break for a while,” Li Pu says, setting the folder on the coffee table without looking through it. “Did they ask you to pass on another message?”
Mei Youshu clears his throat. “The company hopes you’ll be more active on social media. Even if you’re on break, posting daily photos or updates would help keep your fanbase engaged.”
Li Pu nods. “I’ll consider it.”
Mei Youshu sighs inwardly. It is the same response as always, meaning he will probably not consider it.
Brother Li is great in every way, except he is too honest. When he takes a break, he really disappears from the public eye. Others would do anything to stay in the spotlight, but him… oh well. With the loyalty of his fanbase, there is nothing to worry about.
“Okay.” Mei Youshu comforts himself, but when he turns back to look at Bai Gaoxing, his heart skips a beat.
The parrot is staring at him intensely!
It’s really scary!
Mei Youshu grows increasingly anxious, gripping his knees so tightly that they turn white. He desperately wants to flee but forces himself to ask calmly, “Brother Li, it’s almost noon. Should I cook something for you?”
“No, I can handle it myself,” Li Pu declines his offer.
“Alright, I’ll head out then!” Mei Youshu practically leaps up, quickly says his goodbyes, and closes the door behind him without wasting a second.
Was it really that frightening?
Bai Gaoxing stares at the closed door in confusion, wondering what could be so off-putting about his current appearance.
He then turns his attention to Li Pu, who has rolled up his sleeves and entered the kitchen, expertly preparing vegetables.
Before long, the aroma of cooking fills the house.
Bai Gaoxing’s anticipation grows as he waits eagerly for his meal. He hadn’t expected the esteemed movie star to be such a good cook; he thought he relied on takeout every day.
However, his enthusiasm is short-lived. Half an hour later, Li Pu places a bowl in front of him. “Here you go.”
Inside the bowl is a strange-looking and oddly flavored bird food.
Bai Gaoxing:
… I refuse!!!
