I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 1
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
“Look, how beautiful it is!”
A voice of admiration rings in his ears, mixed with an oddly exaggerated tone.
Bai Gaoxing has been feeling feverish since last night, and after enduring the sharpness of the voice, he feels an uncontrollable stinging pain in his heavy head.
He slowly opens his heavy eyelids, and after his blurry vision focuses for a moment, he manages to see the two men standing in front of him.
Who are these people? Relatives of a roommate?
Bai Gaoxing stares at the golden-haired man less than half a meter away and can’t help but wonder which relative is so fashionable, with long hair and dyed highlights.
But is it really appropriate to shout in someone else’s dorm so early in the morning?
Before Bai Gaoxing can express his dissatisfaction, the man begins speaking again.
“The albino Zongqi Wutong parrot is extremely rare and expensive, worth at least this much.”
“It used to be named Lando.”
“Sounds like a girl’s name, doesn’t it? But it’s actually a boy, so don’t get it wrong.”
The blonde man pauses. “Lando’s previous owner abandoned him. You know, large parrots need company. He was locked in a cage for too long, got a bit depressed, and even started to self-harm. I had to persuade the shelter to let me bring Lando back… Don’t look at me like that. If I wasn’t worried you wouldn’t be able to get over your last role, would I have gone to such lengths?” He sighs. “The doctor says it’s safer to have a pet for company.”
The air falls back into silence.
Bai Gaoxing, however, looks completely confused. Who’s depressed? The four of us in this dorm are all as lively as can be! And what about a parrot—who’s raising a parrot? Don’t they know that the dormitory manager is very strict?
After a while, the other man speaks.
“Thank you, Peter. But I already have a fish tank.”
The voice startles Bai Gaoxing for a moment.
The man’s magnetic voice is captivating, as elegant as a cello and as dreamlike as a fantasy.
Bai Gaoxing, sensitive to voices, can’t help but look toward the source of the sound. A man in a dark gray robe and pajamas stands not far away, his eyes carrying a slightly gentle expression.
With broad shoulders and a narrow waist, he stands tall and straight. His cold eyebrows and eyes frame a face that is both regal and aloof.
He is a man who looks difficult to approach, but extremely eye-catching.
The combination of his voice and appearance is rare in reality… Bai Gaoxing stares at him, unable to match him with any of his roommates.
“Fish?” The blond man laughs. “The fish in the tank you have can only eat, but Lando is a parrot, and he’s much more interactive than a dog.”
Bai Gaoxing can’t shake the feeling that the man’s gaze is directed at him.
The blond man also looks at him.
Bai Gaoxing is not pleased. It’s already quite rude to intrude on someone’s dormitory early in the morning, and now being stared at makes him uncomfortable. He tries to respond, “You, um, you guys…”
After a few stuttered words, Bai Gaoxing realizes his voice sounds strange, and his tongue seems to be out of control. He attributes this to the aftereffects of his fever and doesn’t dwell on it.
Unexpectedly, the blond man teases, “Oh, you can say ‘hello’!” The man even extends his hand towards him, playfully encouraging, “Come on, come on, say it again… Dali, come and see this too, cultivate some feelings with it.”
Bai Gaoxing is directly irritated. Why is the man reaching into his quilt—Wait. Where is his quilt?
Bai Gaoxing suddenly lowers his head, and his pupils tremble as he takes in the situation. Looking down, he sees that it isn’t his soft, plush quilt, but a pair of bird claws! The dark gray, strong claws firmly grasp a rough wooden stick.
In his panic, Bai Gaoxing moves, but his body suddenly loses balance and stretches backward.
“Hey hey——!” The blond man quickly reaches out.
Flutter…! At that moment, Bai Gaoxing instinctively tries to control his body. The chaotic flapping sound hits the surrounding bars, and several white feathers fall.
He turns his head in astonishment and sees his large white wings stretched out.
What on earth is this!?
When Bai Gaoxing finally regains his balance on the wooden stick, he realizes he is locked in a cage.
Now, he is completely awake.
He, an ordinary freshman who hasn’t yet fully experienced college life, has somehow turned into a parrot in his sleep.
Bai Gaoxing carefully examines his body, feeling only absurdity and horror.
It’s not that he hasn’t read time-travel novels before or raised parrots, but cross-species time travel is a bit hard for him to accept.
Bai Gaoxing bites his claws hard, screams in pain, and flaps his wings several times.
It’s not a dream.
“Look, it does have a tendency to self-harm,” the blond man says.
Bai Gaoxing looks up in silence as fragmented memories of this parrot flash in his mind.
The original owner of the parrot was a gentle and kind girl who found it as a chick while studying abroad and conducting field research. Unfortunately, she died in an accident, and the parrot was taken in by her brother.
The girl’s brother, the parrot’s previous owner, had abandoned it.
As the blond man mentioned, the previous owner rarely interacted with it, simply locking it in a cage and neglecting it.
Having experienced affection, the neglect only made the parrot’s suffering worse. In such stark contrast, the parrot grew increasingly despondent, listless, and sleepy, eventually resorting to feather-plucking to relieve stress. When the previous owner changed jobs and moved, believing the parrot was on the brink of death, he discarded it at the shelter.
After spending nearly a month in the shelter, it was brought here by a blond man named Peter Wang, who claimed it was a gift for his good brother, Li Pu.
Fortunately, Bai Gaoxing arrives just in time for a change of owner.
Sorting out his chaotic thoughts, Bai Gaoxing glances at the closed iron door in front of him. Feeling uncomfortable about being locked up, he recalls how his parrot previously “escaped from prison” and tries to lift the door with its beak.
“Click.” The cage door lifts slightly.
Push harder.
“Click.” It lifts a little more.
Seeing the parrot’s efforts, Li Pu says, “Can you open it?”
“What?” Peter Wang is momentarily stunned, then reacts, “You mean the cage door? Of course, you can open it, but aren’t you worried it will fly around and make a mess?”
From Peter Wang’s perspective, Li Pu is a very clean person.
“Didn’t you say it was very well-behaved?” Li Pu asks, his gaze fixed on the parrot clinging to the cage wall.
“It is well-behaved; it will return to the cage on its own. But it doesn’t like being confined all the time. I was just about to say you should let it out often,” Peter Wang says as he steps forward to open the cage door. He then steps back a few paces, adding, “Otherwise, it might pluck its feathers or even destroy the cage.”
Large parrots, with beaks as strong as cold weapons, are quite adept at causing destruction.
Seeing the cage door open, Bai Gaoxing awkwardly extends his claws, but his feet slip, and he slides to the bottom of the cage along the wire.
The posture is extremely funny.
“…What’s wrong with it?” Li Pu asks.
“Uh… maybe it’s just not used to this. It doesn’t seem to be in good spirits. You should observe it more closely,” Peter Wang says, unable to explain. He hadn’t thought the parrot would appear so clumsy compared to how it behaved in the shelter.
Li Pu nods.
The next moment, Bai Gaoxing flaps his wings and manages to get out of the cage.
Due to the structure of bird claws, walking on a flat surface feels uncomfortable, but it is a relief compared to standing on the wooden stick. Bai Gaoxing trembles; no matter how tightly he holds on, it feels like he might topple over at any moment.
Bai Gaoxing slightly spreads his wings and attempts to walk a short distance. His body is still a bit shaky, but he manages to maintain his balance.
He walks around while observing his surroundings. Sure enough, this room is not his dormitory. The color is somewhat similar to the stickers in his dormitory, but he couldn’t see it clearly when he first woke up.
Bai Gaoxing is in a state of shock. There are no words to describe his feelings about turning from a human into a bird.
How can he change back?
Bai Gaoxing tries to spread his wings, reviewing yesterday’s memories, and begins to flutter aimlessly. However, to the two people nearby, it seems as though he’s frightened by the change in environment, and they quickly catch him and put him back in the cage.
Once back in solitary confinement, Bai Gaoxing leans his head against the cage in a daze. What if… what if he falls asleep again in two days?
Peter Wang glances at the parrot in the cage, wipes his sweat, and continues speaking to Li Pu: “I’ve brought all the feed and a care manual. You can refer to it if you have any questions.”
He then pulls out a thick little notebook.
But Li Pu, still watching Bai Gaoxing, doesn’t take it.
“Dali! You’ll likely have a few months to rest after finishing the filming. You won’t be busy later, so you can enjoy your vacation,” Peter Wang says, assuming Li Pu is still reluctant to keep the parrot. He shoves the notebook into Li Pu’s hand. “Lando’s documents are complete, and its vaccinations are all done. You just need to spend some time with it every day, and there shouldn’t be any problems. Plus, it can also entertain you!”
Li Pu looks down and flips through the notebook, still hesitating. “But…”
“What else is there to be afraid of?” Peter Wang says softly. “Besides, can you bear to let Lando go back and wait for the next owner?”
Li Pu remains silent.
He looks at the parrot in front of him, which appears cautious and nervous due to the unfamiliar environment. It’s a nearly all-white parrot, more beautiful than many depicted in illustrations. Its pure white feathers are as clean as snow, though a few gray feathers adorn its crown.
But as Peter Wang mentioned, the parrot is ill; part of its chest feathers have been plucked out, with a bit of blood visible.
Li Pu purses his lips. “I may not be able to take good care of it.”
As if understanding his concern, the large parrot turns around, its clear, dark eyes shining with a pleading light.
Peter Wang notices this and says, “I think you two are meant to be together.”
Li Pu looks at the parrot for a long time, his eyes gradually softening. “…Then let it stay.”
Peter Wang sighs in relief. “Alright, you two need each other. Lando—that’s the old name. You should give it a new name.”
Lando is a name associated with painful memories; a new name and a new owner symbolize a fresh start.
Li Pu accepts this and begins to think of a new name in silence.
Peter Wang teases, “I should warn you, you’re not great at naming. Please don’t choose another flower or plant name.”
Bai Gaoxing watches the man, curious about what name he’ll be given.
If it’s an unusual name, he’ll probably need some time to get used to it…
The man stares at him for a long time before finally saying, “Dabai. Just call him Dabai.”
Bai Gaoxing is momentarily stunned. What a coincidence—he has always been called Dabai, and now it seems like they’re actually using that name.
Anyway, he’s quite satisfied with it.
Peter Wang smirks and says, “Dabai is fine too.” He turns around and extends his hand to tease, “Dabai, Dabai~ Hey Dabai, do you know you’re called Dabai?”
Bai Gaoxing steps back in disdain.
Peter Wang persists, “Dabai, call me Daddy!”
Bai Gaoxing looks at him speechlessly and responds with, “Hey.”
Peter Wang: “???”
Li Pu: “…”
Peter Wang is ordered to leave.
“No, you’re treating your brother like this?” Peter Wang leans against the doorframe. “I came back from abroad just to see you!”
Li Pu remains indifferent. “It’s not like I don’t know why you’re here.”
Peter Wang laughs, clearly amused. He’s well-informed.
“But I have to tell you, you just won the Best Actor Award. You need to post updates during your rest time; otherwise, all the fans you’ve worked so hard to build up will disappear!”
Li Pu nods. “Yeah.”
Peter Wang can tell at a glance that Li Pu isn’t listening, so he gives up. “Then take good care of Dabai. I’ll come back to check on him when I have time.”
Li Pu agrees, “Of course.”
Bai Gaoxing watches the two figures chatting by the door and realizes that his meal ticket is a major figure in the entertainment industry.
But he can’t focus on that right now. He hasn’t had a sip of water since last night, and he’s desperately thirsty. He needs to find something to drink.
Bai Gaoxing looks around and notices that the movie star’s house is too clean. There are no water cups on the table, only cups turned upside down, and no teapot in sight.
At this point, a sink would have been perfect… Bai Gaoxing is so thirsty that he turns his head and spots an aquarium that’s half the size of the wall.
This must be the fish they were talking about earlier! Coincidentally, the lid is still open.
Bai Gaoxing flaps his wings and manages to take off successfully, heading towards the aquarium in relief. However, he overestimates his flying skills. As he approaches the aquarium, he realizes he has misjudged his landing.
This is bad!
Bai Gaoxing sees a group of fish swimming towards him, their mouths open as if ready to bite. The moment he falls into the water, he cries out his first complete word: “Help!!!”
