Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 27
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
The typical fighting style of regular adventurers is fundamentally akin to that of hunters. In modern terms, it’s somewhat like a special forces unit. They operate in small, coordinated parties, stealthily approaching monster creatures and overwhelming them with sheer attacking power. If the numerical difference becomes insurmountable, they withdraw temporarily to devise traps or strategies. That’s the gist of it.
However, the Sword Fangs have over half of their members dedicated to shield bearers and crossbowmen. They are extremely expensive to maintain.
In this world, just like in the original world, shields are typically made from thick wooden boards edged with metal and lined with leather, but shields are basically disposable after each battle. When fighting with a shield to hold back an opponent, it will become scratched and full of holes. During assignments, repairs are necessary, but ideally, new shields should be used to prevent the risk of breaking upon impact. This is the reason why there are so few adventurers who carry shields. And shields entirely made of metal are too heavy to maneuver effectively.
I’ve heard that in some armies there are soldiers who use two-handed shields, but I’ve never seen one myself. Perhaps they use them when fighting dragons? Crossbows are powerful weapons, but they are incredibly expensive to manufacture, easy to break, and cannot be fired rapidly. However, with adequate numbers and proper maintenance, they can be extremely powerful. If you have a front-line soldier with a shield, you can reload during battle. If you have middle-line soldiers who can destroy the enemy’s shield, you can increase your lethality even further.
But it costs money.
There may also be specialized warsmiths who can carry and repair replacement shields and crossbow parts. Additionally, there may be war priests who can cast magical defensive blessings to reduce wear and tear on shields and armor.
In this way, the Sword Fang Legion has achieved numerous requests and accumulated achievements with this fighting style. Fighting like this, even a man-eating giant ogre is not their opponent.
When I was an adventurer, it was a matter of life and death to fight against a nearly two-meter-tall hobgoblin. After somehow defeating it, I swore never to fight head-on again. However, the members of the Sword Fang Legion are all trained and equipped to crush any opponent head-on. A top clan not only has top talent but also a top combat doctrine.
