Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 186
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
After finishing my visit and greeting Urbano, I gather information from the guild receptionist to prepare a report and discover that, as before, they have not conducted any special interviews regarding the causes of injuries or deaths among adventurers.
I wonder why this is the case and realize that the problem lies not in the Adventurer’s Guild’s negligence, but rather in the lack of a communication system between the church and the adventurers. In other words, if anyone is to be blamed for this, it’s me.
When an adventurer is injured or a member dies, they now go to the church. I don’t know what kind of information the church collects, but there is no obligation to report it to the Adventurer’s Guild, and no reports are exchanged. Without information, the organization has no motivation to take action.
I need to visit the church immediately and implement some measures.
◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇
As soon as I leave the Adventurer’s Guild, I head to a nearby church. The communal graveyard provided by the church for adventurers is situated in a corner frequented by commoners from the third-class district.
The church is small and pales in comparison to the cathedral in the first-class district, yet it has a strangely lively atmosphere with men in rough armor and weapons coming and going.
As I pass through the gates to meet the church priest, an adventurer who has just finished treatment exits. He is a large, bearded man in fine iron armor, holding a spear-shaped weapon like a walking stick in his right hand while clutching a dish towel in his left. He leans on the shoulder of a slightly smaller man in leather armor, so we make way for them. The large man looks battered from his injuries, while the smaller man appears to be comforting him.
“Damn it! Getting injured by a mere goblin—I really have no luck! Plus, I pulled a muscle in my arm, and I was worried about what would happen! And to top it off, my silver coins are flying away! Seriously, I’m so unlucky!”
“Hey, come on, don’t say that. You were lucky. It was close to the city, so you could get treatment, and they were able to reattach your muscle. In half a month, you’ll be able to earn again. You can’t buy life with silver coins.”
“Well, that’s true, but…” As the men walk away, the sound of their chainmail clinking echoes.
Sara quietly remarks, “It’s true; those people are really lucky. Before, if you injured a muscle in your arm, you’d have no choice but to retire from being an adventurer.”
“Absolutely,” Kiriku agrees with Sara’s observation.
This is likely an issue all the more familiar to Kiriku, who is still battling powerful monsters with the Sword Fangs Legion. And it is undoubtedly a problem that strikes close to home for me as well.
The reason was my knee injury was essentially the same type of injury, and worsened due to my inability to receive immediate treatment from the church. The injury occurred far from the city, so I had to rely on a companion’s shoulder to make my way back. Even after we returned, I spent time searching for a magician willing to treat adventurers.
In the meantime, my knee worsened, and I was ultimately abandoned by my companions, which led to my becoming a retired adventurer.
Fortunately, I’m fully healed now thanks to the kindness of Father Nicolo. However, if I had been able to receive magical treatment from the priest when my injury was still fresh, I could have been healed with a low-level spell.
“Anyway, it seems like it’s somewhat effective…”
Seeing the evidence that the system I built is functioning, that my efforts so far have paid off, I feel a slight sense of relief.
◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇
The church’s priests are cooperative with my request. Father Nicolo must have effectively laid the groundwork for this as part of the church’s policy. I can’t help but feel the advantages of having influential figures within the church on my side.
Even the priest maintains some sort of treatment record. When I think about it, it makes sense: magical healing requires a catalyst, which in turn necessitates a budget.
This budget is allocated through the church’s bureaucratic organization, so reports are essential, and keeping records is necessary for that. While there are donations from adventurers, which constitute church income, these funds could not be pocketed by the local priest. In other words, financial records are kept properly.
Perhaps because the cooperation system is still relatively new, the priests who treat the patients remember the reasons for each and every injury. I start speaking with the priest who is treating the patients at the church.
“Actually, I would like to include the causes of the adventurers’ injuries in the report…”
Of course, I don’t want to impose the burden of reporting on the treatment site. I categorize the causes of injuries I hear from the priest and prepare a checklist-like format that allows for checking off only the most common causes.
“Like this, I just want to know the monster involved, the nature of the wound, and the reason for it…”
“Oh! This is really easy to fill out! Haha… So this will be reported to the Adventurer’s Guild, and it will lead to requests and improvements for equipment! That’s interesting…”
The priest I consult seems to be a young man sent through Father Nicolo’s connections. He appears more interested in the classification, report format, and analysis method than in the content of the consultation itself.
It may seem a bit backward, but at this rate, I’m sure the Adventurer’s Guild will be happy to share the report.
