Chapter 6: Health-Building Soup! Vital Energy Grows!
However, Su Hao’s expression turned cold. He noticed that although Sun Feng appeared to be pleading for mercy, his right hand was making subtle movements, a dagger sliding out from his sleeve, aimed to stab Su Hao.
“Bang!”
But Su Hao anticipated his move, taking three quick steps forward, his center of gravity shifting as he kicked forcefully with his right leg, delivering a devastating blow to Sun Feng’s abdomen.
A wave of excruciating pain surged through Sun Feng, as if his insides were twisting together; his organs felt as if they had burst, an unbearable agony curled him into a tight ball, his face contorted in pain before he collapsed unconscious.
These three reckless thugs, armed and brimming with bravado, found themselves completely defeated by Su Hao in a very short time!
“Whoo… whoo… whoo…”
The only sounds in the room were Su Hao’s breathing. With his Vajra Fist practiced to the level of small accomplishment, he had achieved a substantial leap in combat power compared to the past, barely exerting any effort to take down Sun Feng and the others.
“It’s not time to relax yet; I need to deal with their bodies first.”
After resting for a moment, Su Hao began to take action. Those who frequently kill understand that while taking a life is easy, disposing of the body is difficult. Therefore, it’s best to bury them nearby. Luckily, outside Longshe Village was all wilderness, and it would suffice to find a forested area to bury them.
Su Hao immediately set to work, making two trips through the pouring rain to move Sun Feng and the others to the wilderness several miles away.
“Spare… spare my life…”
In a haze, Sun Feng regained consciousness, as if realizing his fate, and let out a weak moan.
“Spare you? If I weren’t stronger than you, would you spare me?”
Su Hao’s face was icy as he held a dagger that belonged to Sun Feng, speaking coldly.
“Shh!”
Su Hao disregarded Sun Feng’s pleas and plunged the dagger into his throat. Sun Feng’s eyes widened in shock as blood gushed from his neck, sealing his fate. Previously, he had been afraid of staining Su Hao’s room with blood.
After burying Sun Feng and the others in a desolate forest, Su Hao did not return home but instead went to Sun Feng’s residence. With the man dead, Su Hao had searched through the bodies of Sun Feng and the others but found nothing of value. Any worthwhile possessions were likely left at Sun Feng’s home.
Arriving at Sun Feng’s house, Su Hao climbed in through the window and searched around. He soon discovered a small box, and when he opened it, his eyes brightened.
“Silver… around seven to eight taels? It seems Sun Feng had close ties with Chen Dao and the others; this money must be of dubious origin,” Su Hao thought to himself.
“Huh? Is this a prescription?”
Besides the silver, Su Hao also found a scroll in the box that listed various herbs, such as Huang Jing and He Shou Wu, with the words “Health-Building Soup” written at the bottom.
“Health-Building Soup… It looks like a tonic for strengthening the body. I should buy some herbs later to try it out.”
Without examining it further, Su Hao gathered the silver and the prescription, then climbed back out the window. After returning home, he changed into clean clothes and went straight to sleep.
That night was not peaceful. Sun Feng was burning with jealousy towards Su Hao and sought out Chen Dao, who was involved in the slave trade. Little did they know that Su Hao was not the easily slaughtered sheep they perceived him to be but rather a lurking tiger! Not only did they fail to achieve their goal, but they all ended up losing their lives, buried in the wilderness.
“Why hasn’t Sun Feng shown up for work today? Did this guy get drunk again?”
The next day, as the winds calmed and the rain ceased, Su Hao went to work at the blacksmith shop as usual. He overheard Zhao Tie speaking with irritation and disappointment.
Sun Feng often mingled with local ruffians and had been late many times.
However, it was evident that Sun Feng would no longer come to work at the blacksmith shop. After several days without his presence, Zhao Tie sensed something was wrong and personally went to Sun Feng’s home to search. Ultimately, there was no sign of him, and the only recourse was to report to the authorities.
Even if they were to really find Sun Feng’s body, it would probably be a long time later, and the corpse would have already decayed. “There are several herbs missing from this Health-Building Soup prescription that Crouching Tiger Town doesn’t have, so I should take a trip to Evergreen City tomorrow on my day off to buy them.”
After the minor upheaval, Su Hao looked at the prescription he discovered at Sun Feng’s house for the Health-Building Soup, noting that it called for some rare ingredients that were not available in Crouching Tiger Town. Evergreen City serves as the center of Evergreen County and is nearly fifty miles away from Crouching Tiger Town, mostly along mountain roads. For an ordinary person, a round trip would typically take about two to three days.
However, for Su Hao, who had achieved great accomplishment in Baduanjin and reached the physical limits of the human body, making a round trip in a single day was not a problem.
Early the next morning, just as dawn broke, Su Hao set out from Crouching Tiger Town, heading to Evergreen City. He had previously followed a team led by Zhao Tie to Evergreen City for business, so he was familiar with the route.
With his abundant stamina, Su Hao moved quickly, and by noon, he arrived outside Evergreen City. Known as the heart of Evergreen County, Evergreen City is also the most prosperous area in the county, with armored guards standing watch at the gate, and merchants and travelers bustling about.
Su Hao entered the city discreetly and visited several different pharmacies inside, purchasing the necessary herbs for the Health-Building Soup.
“This Health-Building Soup is way too expensive… 500 wen for one prescription?” Su Hao felt a sting in his heart as he noted the high prices of the various herbs. He initially bought three sets of the herbs, planning to test the effects first.
After finishing his shopping, he stopped at a small restaurant in the city for some buns and rice porridge before heading back home. The nights in this era were unsafe, so he needed to get home before dark.
By the afternoon, with the sun still up, Su Hao safely returned home and began using a stove to gradually simmer the various herbs together according to the quantities listed on the prescription.
After more than an hour, Su Hao opened the lid of the pot and was met with a bitter medicinal scent.
“Let’s see how it works.”
Licking his lips, Su Hao poured himself a bowl of Health-Building Soup and, enduring its bitter flavor, gulped it down in big swigs.
As the Health-Building Soup reached his lower abdomen, Su Hao’s eyes instantly brightened. As the medicinal effect kicked in, he felt warmth spreading through his body, with a sensation as if a warm flame was igniting in his dan tian (the area below the navel)!
“Time to practice Vajra Fist!”
Su Hao immediately got moving and began practicing Vajra Fist, each punch and form sending gusts of wind, full of strength and power.
During this process, Su Hao felt that a faint and elusive strength force within him seemed to be stirring to life!
“This Health-Building Soup is quite effective for nurturing strength, allowing my Vajra Fist practice to accelerate to nearly double the speed. At this rate, I might reach great accomplishment in my Vajra Fist within six months!”
As Su Hao entered a focused state in his Vajra Fist practice, feeling his invigorated energy flow throughout his body, his spirits soared to new heights.
Refining strength is the first realm of martial arts. Only by refining strength can one truly enter the realm of martial arts, and this step is extremely difficult. It typically requires ten years or more of hard work to achieve. However, combined with the effects of the Health-Building Soup, Su Hao’s potential allowed him to progress rapidly!
Su Hao was driven to train vigorously; a single batch of Health-Building Soup would likely sustain him for seven days. In other words, he would need to spend about two taels of silver each month to purchase the herbs for the soup, which is undoubtedly a significant amount for an ordinary family.
Fortunately, Su Hao had already become an Official Blacksmith. Crafting two Ten-Refinement Weapons each month was sufficient to cover these expenses.
As time passed, Su Hao could feel his energy strengthening further, and within him, a faint force seemed to be slowly emerging—that was the ‘strength’!
