Chapter 14: The Dream
I’m tired. Let’s just end it all.
Qi Yuan listened to this spiel, feeling genuinely disillusioned with life. This dream has some serious moral issues, doesn’t it?
You Yuanxiu, on the other hand, seemed perfectly fine with the dream version of himself having a conversation with his brother, You Qinghe, and showed no concern whatsoever, his mind consumed solely by the fear that Qi Yuan would run off with You Qinghe.
So, the key to escaping this dream is making You Yuanxiu see that there’s absolutely no chance between me and You Qinghe anymore?
Qi Yuan stared blankly, lost in thought.
Seeing Qi Yuan’s lack of reaction, You Yuanxiu, still kneeling on one knee, quickly scrambled up the wall and sat beside Qi Yuan.
True to their sibling bond, You Yuanxiu and You Qinghe both wore the same pitiful expression—a look of wronged innocence, yet still cautiously coaxing Qi Yuan.
“Precious, please just say something to me.”
“Don’t condemn me to death in your heart so easily.”
“I promise, I’ll control my jealousy from now on…”
When Qi Yuan remained silent, panic began to rise in You Yuanxiu’s heart. After all, in his worldview, it had never been Qi Yuan who needed him, but rather the other way around.
Having been together for a year, You Yuanxiu knew Qi Yuan’s personality well. He understood that once Qi Yuan made up his mind, he wouldn’t easily change it.
What You Yuanxiu feared had nothing to do with status, wealth, or power. He simply dreaded his lover abandoning him, knowing he wasn’t Qi Yuan’s only option.
The vultures circling outside were just waiting for them to split up, and You Yuanxiu would never let them succeed.
“You Yuanxiu,” Qi Yuan called out.
“Right here, my dear,” You Yuanxiu replied instantly, the worry lines on his face softening slightly.
He was strikingly handsome. Unlike his youthful, puppy-like demeanor around You Qinghe, he exuded a mature, masculine charm. Even a tailored suit couldn’t hide his impeccably toned physique, a testament to years of disciplined workouts, yet without any exaggerated bulk.
Though kneeling, his towering frame still occupied a significant space. Combined with the commanding presence of a man long accustomed to authority, he projected an undeniable aura of power.
Qi Yuan stared at him, unsure what to say. He couldn’t quite grasp the pivotal point of this dream.
“Don’t frown,” Qi Yuan said, reaching out to tap You Yuanxiu’s forehead, adopting a familiar, casual tone. “I’m not angry. I just woke up, and my brain hasn’t quite caught up yet.”
For a moment, Qi Yuan felt that if he kept this up, he might one day become an award-winning actor. Lying through his teeth seemed to have become an essential skill.
He blinked sleepily, yawning as he finished speaking, tears glistening in his eyes. Combined with his dazed expression from earlier, he looked convincingly half-asleep.
You Yuanxiu breathed a sigh of relief, unconcerned whether his earlier words had been wasted, as long as the outcome was favorable.
Just then, there was a knock on the closed office door.
“Go ahead, company matters are important,” Qi Yuan said understandingly, his eyes brightening.
“Okay, Baby. Wait for me, I’ll be right back.”
He watched You Yuanxiu’s retreating figure until the door clicked shut behind him.
Qi Yuan instantly went limp, collapsing onto the sofa.
Something digging into his waist made it ache. He fumbled around until he pulled it out and realized it was his phone.
He squinted. The brand looked rather expensive.
Unlocking the phone with his fingerprint, Qi Yuan immediately saw messages from You Qinghe and a stranger frantically trying to add him.
You Qinghe: Baby, did my brother give you a hard time?
You Qinghe: I can’t believe he dared to distrust you! I don’t even know what to say. If you can’t handle it, you can always contact me. I’m here for you, unlike my narrow-minded brother.
You Qinghe: Baby, if you’re feeling down, don’t bottle it up. It’s bad for your health.

Qi Yuan: “……”
You’re the most petty one here, aren’t you?
He didn’t even want to say it.
Qi Yuan genuinely couldn’t understand how one person could have so much to say. No wonder his dream self had set up a “Do Not Disturb” mode for You Qinghe.
If it were me, I’d do the same.
He glanced at the messages—just trivial chatter, nothing useful. With no intention of replying, Qi Yuan exited the chat and stared at the person who was spamming him with friend requests.
Tang Yu: You can’t treat me like this!
Tang Yu: Qi Yuan! You promised me! If I helped you, you’d be with me!
Tang Yu: Break up with him! Qi Yuan! Break up with him!
Tang Yu: I’m going to lose it! Qi Yuan… I’m going to lose it!
Was I really this wild in my dreams?
A player?
Getting together with one while stringing another along?
Qi Yuan lightly tapped his fingers on the sofa armrest. He had a vague recollection of Tang Yu—a renowned computer genius from the academy with a decent family background. Rumor had it he was an illegitimate child, and despite his talent in computer science, he was never valued within his family, always an outsider.
Why would my dream self get involved with him?
What exactly did he need Tang Yu’s help with, that he’d dangle the promise of being together like a carrot, only to discard him once his goal was achieved?
Qi Yuan stroked his chin, admitting to himself that such ruthlessness wasn’t beyond him—unethical, yes, but undeniably effective. In reality, though, he rarely resorted to such tactics.
I don’t really want to deal with either of them. Switching off his phone, he went to the lounge to put on a pair of pants. Just as he was about to head out to gather some intel, the door burst open.
“Baby.”
You Qinghe stumbled in, his hair disheveled and complexion pale.
“I was so worried about you.”
“You weren’t replying to my messages.”
“Did my brother… did he give you a hard time?”
“I’m sorry, I acted impulsively…”
His words tumbled out in a rambling, incoherent stream. When he finally met Qi Yuan’s gaze, his face drained even whiter.
Without a doubt, You Qinghe now appeared completely unhinged in Qi Yuan’s eyes.
The hard-won contact information he had finally obtained might be deleted again because of this impulsive act.
But You Qinghe truly couldn’t endure another day without Qi Yuan. He had lost his composure the moment they broke up.
He didn’t want to demand answers from Qi Yuan about why he had suddenly ended their relationship years ago and kicked him to the curb. It was too late for that, and it would only complicate things further.
“You Qinghe, this is your brother’s office. You shouldn’t be here,” Qi Yuan said, frowning.
He knew that if You Yuanxiu saw them alone together in the office, he would likely reset the dream again.
You Qinghe took a few steps forward, large tears beginning to fall. “Baby, why are you being so cruel to me?”
“What did I do wrong?”
“Tell me, and I’ll change. Please.”
“I really can’t bear to see you with anyone else—not even my brother.”
He looked utterly disheveled and miserable. Noticing that every step forward he took prompted Qi Yuan to retreat, he felt even more heartbroken.
“Don’t avoid me…”
Just as he spoke, the door behind him opened again.
A puzzled voice called out, “You Qinghe, what are you doing here?”
Witnessing the entire scene, Qi Yuan desperately wanted to scream for help.
