Chapter 131 [Zhai Moyu & Sun Jiayi] (4)

Jiayi, long time no see.

Lin Yufan stood tall and straight at the building entrance, dressed in a suit, as gentle and handsome as she remembered. A faint smile lingered at the corners of his lips.

Sun Jiayi stared blankly at the man before her, her entire body turning cold. It felt as if a hole had opened in her heart, letting in gusts of chilly wind.

Lin Yufan approached, his eyes glancing at the roses in Sun Jiayi’s hand. He reached to take her backpack, but she dodged his attempt. Unfazed, Lin Yufan spoke with natural familiarity, as if they had never broken up.

Finished work? Are you tired?

What are you doing here? Sun Jiayi asked coldly, her face stern.

I’ve been transferred to the branch company in Haishi. I came to see you as soon as I arrived.

What connection do we have that requires you to see me again?

All these years, I’ve missed you constantly, Jiayi. Lin Yufan raised his hand to touch her, but Sun Jiayi slapped it away, her eyes filled with disgust.

I don’t want to see you. Get lost!

Sun Jiayi pushed Lin Yufan away forcefully and tried to enter the building, but he grabbed her arm.

Is it because of that man who’s pursuing you now?

When Lin Yufan returned, he had heard about Zhai Moyu pursuing Sun Jiayi from university classmates he contacted.

It’s because you’re a fucking asshole!

Sun Jiayi swung her bag hard against the man’s face, broke free from his grip, and hurriedly ran into her apartment.

When Zhai Moyu went looking for Sun Jiyi these past couple days, he found her absent from the office. Colleagues said she had taken leave.

Zhai Moyu wondered, was she sick?

He messaged her, but Sun Jiayi didn’t respond. Growing increasingly concerned, Zhai Moyu drove to Sun Jiayi’s residential complex.

As the elevator doors opened, he saw a tall man standing outside Sun Jiayi’s door. At first glance, Zhai Moyu found the man somewhat familiar-looking. Upon closer inspection – hey, didn’t he somewhat resemble himself!

The two men locked eyes, each seeing wariness and disgust in the other’s gaze.

Who are you?

So you’re the one pursuing Jiayi?

They spoke simultaneously. Zhai Moyu’s expression darkened, his eyes turning icy cold like frost. He resembled a hunting leopard, every inch of him bristling with hostility.

How many days have you been lurking here?

Zhai Moyu narrowed his eyes dangerously, instinctively sensing this man meant no good. Sun Jiayi’s absence must be related to him!

What’s it to you?

A smug smile played on Lin Yufan’s lips, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. Jiayi has never been able to forget me all these years. You don’t stand a chance.

Zhai Moyu wasn’t angered by these words, but rather infuriated by the man’s lurking presence. His gaze turned fierce as he stepped forward, gripping the man’s neck forcefully and slamming him against the wall. His warning carried a chilling intensity.

Stop harassing Jiayi, or you’ll find yourself behind bars!

Cough—who do you think you are, daring to threaten me! Lin Yufan’s face turned red from suffocation, veins bulging on his forehead as he stubbornly stared at Zhai Moyu.

Hmph! Just one phone call is all it would take. Care to test that?

Zhai Moyu let out a cold laugh, tightening his grip. Lin Yufan felt air unable to enter his lungs, his face turning purple with fear as he desperately beat against Zhai Moyu’s hands.

With a powerful throw, Zhai Moyu sent the disheveled man crashing to the ground. Get lost! he growled hoarsely.

Sun Jiayi heard movement in her room and cautiously peeked out. Seeing Zhai Moyu appear, her face filled with surprise, then she glanced at Lin Yufan who had fallen on the ground. She pursed her lips and silently pulled Zhai Moyu into the room by tugging at the corner of his clothes with her slender fingers.

After pulling him inside, the two stood facing each other. Sun Jiayi didn’t know what had come over her earlier and now stared with wide eyes, unsure what to do.

Sun Jiayi was wearing Doraemon pajamas, her long pale legs extending from the shorts. Her black hair cascaded loosely, and her dark pupils reflected innocence.

Zhai Moyu glanced down and noticed Sun Jiayi standing barefoot on the floor, her fair toes curling slightly from the cold. He instinctively frowned, bent down to scoop her up horizontally, and carried her inside while scolding, Why aren’t you wearing shoes?

Startled, Sun Jiayi clung tightly to the man’s neck as she watched Zhai Moyu place her on the sofa. He held her slender ankles and helped her into slippers before asking, Have you eaten?

Sun Jiayi shook her head. Lin Yufan had been squatting outside for two days, and she hadn’t dared to go out, staying holed up in her room eating instant noodles.

Zhai Moyu stood up and went to the kitchen to open the refrigerator. Good heavens—various flavors of instant noodles filled the entire fridge, with frozen dumplings packed below, leaving no room for him to showcase his cooking skills.

Had Sun Jiayi been living like this all these years?

Zhai Moyu had no choice but to call a restaurant and order several dishes for delivery.

Looking at the petite woman curled up on the sofa, hugging her knees and staring blankly at him, Zhai Moyu felt lightheaded, thinking—How can she be so adorable!

Has he been outside all this time? Why didn’t you call me? Zhai Moyu asked, hands on his hips, somewhat exasperated with the young woman.

That wouldn’t be fair to you, Sun Jiayi murmured. She felt that since she hadn’t accepted Zhai Moyu’s pursuit, she shouldn’t make any demands on him, as it might give him false hope.

He’s camped outside your door, and you’re worried about what’s fair to me? You should think about yourself first!

Zhai Moyu felt both frustrated and heartbroken. Why did Sun Jiayi have such high moral standards? He almost wished she’d be a little less considerate toward him!

Who is that guy? Zhai Moyu’s eyes shifted uncomfortably, his tone uneasy. He didn’t want to sound like a jealous fool questioning her, but he couldn’t control his envy.

He’s my ex-boyfriend.

Of course!

Ex-boyfriends—once you break up, they should disappear as if they’re dead. What’s he doing popping up now?

Sun Jiayi turned to look out the window. It seemed like rain was coming—dark clouds gathered, casting the world into gloom. Hugging her knees, she began telling Zhai Moyu about her worthless past relationship.

Sun Jiayi had attended a special program for gifted youths, entering university at fifteen and skipping grades continuously. While others were taking college entrance exams, she had already secured a spot for graduate studies.

Surrounded by classmates several years older, they either found her immature or envied her talent, so no one included her in their activities. She often hid alone in the dissection lab, chatting with the cadavers.

One day, Lin Yufan passed by and noticed the quiet Sun Jiayi. He initiated conversation with her, took her out to explore, and showed her different sights. Sun Jiayi inevitably developed feelings, and the two naturally became a couple.

During their relationship, Lin Yufan treated her exceptionally well. Everyone said he was the perfect, devoted boyfriend.

He remembered every little quirk of Sun Jiayi’s, would proactively check in, remembered every anniversary, had no dubious friends, and never fooled around. He truly cherished Sun Jiayi like she was the apple of his eye, respecting all her thoughts.

When the flu outbreak hit and Sun Jiayi fell ill, Lin Yufan ran through streets and alleys to buy medicine. Without a second thought, he entered the sickroom, completely unafraid of getting infected himself, just to take care of her.

Lin Yufan did so much for Sun Jiayi.

In an era where intimacy became as casual as eating meals, Lin Yufan never laid a hand on Sun Jiayi. He said he wanted to protect her maidenly heart, waiting until they graduated and got married.

It was this kind of relationship that everyone envied, even satisfying their parents and teachers. Sun Jiayi couldn’t understand – how could they possibly break up?
