Lord Ghost Husband, Please Let Me Go - Chapter 6
Chapter 6 We Need to Set Some Ground Rules
But hadn’t that woman covered in age spots told me that Wei Que died of illness? Could there be some hidden truth behind this?
Regarding this, Wei Que regretfully informed me that after his death, for some unknown reason, he couldn’t clearly remember the events from the final period of his life. Thus, he had no recollection of how he died or who might have killed him. The Wei Family publicly claimed he died of illness, but they never even found his body. The coffin even contained a random corpse taken from the hospital morgue.
This was truly unbelievable.
Suddenly, a wild idea popped into my head. I quickly lowered my voice and asked Wei Que, “Well, since your body was never found, is it possible you’re actually still alive?”
He gave me a disdainful look, his eyes rolling so hard I thought they might fall out. If he weren’t so even-tempered, I suspected he wouldn’t even bother responding. “Miss, is your IQ functioning normally? If I were still alive, how could I have become a ghost and come to you for help?”
He had a point. I had to admit my theory was rather far-fetched and could only offer an awkward smile. Currently lying in the coffin, with the Ghost Marriage already completed, I was as helpless as a fish on the chopping block. I rolled my eyes in resignation and reluctantly agreed to help.
With great reluctance, I replied, “Fine then, but we need to set some ground rules. First, you’re not allowed to lay a hand on me. Second, you can’t randomly send out little ghosts to scare me. Third, you must cooperate with my investigation and tell me immediately if you remember anything.”
These were basic requirements, so Wei Que agreed without hesitation. He even added a supplementary condition – if my detective agency needed assistance, he would lend a hand when convenient.
I sighed. I knew one major reason Wei Que sought me out was because I ran a detective agency in Hancheng. Though not particularly prestigious, it occasionally helped the police with investigations and resolved various civil disputes.
The key was that I had some connections. Whether investigating the whereabouts of his body or identifying who around him wanted him dead, I could likely uncover some information if I tried.
Of course, that was the ideal scenario.
The reality was.
I was just a mediocre detective, about as skilled as Kogoro Mori. But while he had Conan, a little ghost who knew all about locked-room murder mysteries, I had no one. I had to rely entirely on myself.
So, while I could help with Wei Que’s matter, he shouldn’t pin all his hopes on me.
Then my head grew heavy and drowsy. I wanted to ask Wei Que more questions, but overwhelmed by exhaustion, I unexpectedly fell asleep…
I completely forgot to ask him to let me out of the coffin…
I was shaken awake, opening my eyes with great reluctance.
The person shaking me was that woman covered in age spots – I now knew her name was Aunt Qin… She had been haunting me like a ghost since I entered the Wei Family. I couldn’t even tell if she was human or ghost, but I knew she had become a major source of psychological distress for me.
Frowning, she asked me, “Madam, why are you sleeping here? Don’t catch a cold – let’s return to your room to rest.”
My head was muddled, and it took me a long moment to react. Pressing a hand to my forehead, I shook my head helplessly at Aunt Qin. Didn’t I sleep in the coffin last night? How did I end up outside when I woke up?
Could it be that last night… was just a dream?
