Lord Ghost Husband, Please Let Me Go - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Do Me a Favor
“Woman, are you staring dumbfounded?” The man lying beside me reminded irritably, pointing at the white nameplate on his chest as he gave a simple introduction. “Wei Que, your Ghost Marriage husband.”
Only then did I remember that this handsome man before me was a Fierce ghost. It was true that we had undergone Ghost Marriage, but he could devour me at any moment!
Terrified, I immediately sat upright!
But the Coffin was only so big, and with my sudden movement, I directly bumped my head against it. The pain made me gasp sharply, and I hurriedly covered my forehead with my hand…
He looked at me with great help, then removed my hand from my forehead. Although my body could see Fierce ghosts, they never made any physical contact with me. Most of the time, we kept to our own spheres, but he was absolutely the first Fierce ghost to lay hands on me.
Fortunately, he didn’t seem too hostile. Instead, he gently stroked the injured spot on my forehead, his tone disdainful yet concerned. “You managed to hurt yourself right in front of me, quite the talent. You’re both timid and reckless; I really can’t expect much from you.”
As he spoke, he shook his head slightly. If this weren’t his Coffin, he might have stormed off in a huff.
He looked down on me.
I felt incredibly annoyed, but after a moment’s thought, a fawning smile surfaced on my face. “Honorable Ghost, I think you’re absolutely right. I know a girl who’s particularly clever and capable. How about I bring her over someday, and you can marry her instead?”
Of course, that’s what I said aloud, but in my heart, I was scheming to escape this dreadful place as soon as possible. Being so kind-hearted, I would never lead another girl into this pit. By the time this ghost descended to the Netherworld, even if he wanted to settle scores with me, he’d have no way to find me.
But he shook his head at me, first correcting my form of address. “Woman, call me Young Master Wei.”
“Alright, Young Master Wei.” I quickly corrected myself, simultaneously putting on my most pitiful, starry-eyed expression, hoping he’d soften his heart and let me go. After all, though I knew ghosts existed, I never imagined I’d end up in a Ghost Marriage with one, lying inside a Coffin no less.
I have to say, I already have a boyfriend, cheating is a matter of principle…
Noticing I was about to speak again, Wei Que suddenly raised his hand, his icy fingertips pressing against my pale lips in a clear gesture for silence, effectively cutting off whatever I intended to say.
My mind went completely blank. I couldn’t even think, forgetting what I had planned to say just moments before!
He, however, shook his head leisurely at me and offered a slight reminder.
“You may not be clever or knowledgeable, but fortunately, you possess a natural Spirit Sight. That’s why I chose you.” He paused, as if my being selected by him was an incredible stroke of luck. “Moreover, I’ve already sent the betrothal gifts, and your family has accepted them. Do you think they’d return them to me?”
Remembering my money-grubbing stepmother, I quickly shook my head. On ordinary days, asking her for even a single yuan was like cutting flesh from her body. The Wei Family’s betrothal gifts amounted to a full five million that would be the death of her!
As if to reassure me, he continued speaking.
“The only reason I married you is because I hope you can help investigate the cause of my death. As long as you can avenge me, not only will I grant you freedom, but you’ll also receive substantial benefits.”
