Chapter 4: The Insects Crawling on My Lower Abdomen
I stood frozen in place, still processing what had happened, when the guests and relatives suddenly retreated in a flurry. By the time I regained my senses, the hall was completely empty, not a single soul remained.
The only ones left in this place were me and a coffin.
Although I possessed eyes naturally capable of seeing ghosts, scanning the hall now revealed it to be utterly clean. To put it bluntly, I couldn’t even spot a mouse, let alone a Fierce ghost hiding somewhere.
My stomach had long been growling with hunger, and as a true foodie, I’ve always lived by the motto: “There’s no problem in the world that can’t be solved with one barbecue meal if there is, then make it two.”
Coincidentally, there were apples placed nearby for sacrificial offerings. Though I knew it was somewhat impolite, I couldn’t help myself hunger was a pressing matter. I quickly grabbed one and took a bite.
“What a careless little imp,” that icy male voice echoed in my ear again. Startled, I immediately dropped the apple. It tumbled to the ground with a series of rolls, bouncing far, far away…
It was all his fault now I had no apple to eat!
And I really wanted to ask him: Was it really appropriate for him to keep calling me “little imp”? I, Yin Su, have a name! Besides, if I was a little imp, then what did that make him a Fierce ghost?
But before I could voice my complaints, a pale, grayish hand emerged from the coffin… and pushed me straight inside!
With a loud bang, the coffin lid slammed shut from the outside!
I was so terrified I nearly cursed out loud!
However, the interior was hollow, there was no corpse lying inside. It was pitch black, so dark I couldn’t see my own hand in front of my face. I could only feel something crawling all over me, as if thousands of insects were swarming.
Strangely, these insects emitted a faint glow, like fireflies. As they illuminated the coffin, they gradually converged from all directions, forming the shape of a hand that came to rest on my lower abdomen…
My eyes widened in shock as the tiny insects continued to gather, more of them piled up. At first, it was just a hand, but eventually, it took on a human form. The coffin was cramped, and he pressed tightly against me, nose to nose, face to face.
It was a face composed entirely of insects, yet its features were strikingly handsome!
Terrified, my eyes and mouth hung wide open.
The tiny insects began to crawl slowly through my parted lips, slipping inside… I was completely stunned. I remembered to shut my eyes but forgot to close my mouth as well!
In my ear, that cool, mocking male voice sounded once more. “What a dull woman. To be this cowardly you’re hardly fit to be Wei Que’s woman…”
So, the one frightening me was that dead ghost, Wei Que?
I really wanted to ask him: If I’m so unfit, then can’t I just call off the marriage?!
But instead, he delivered a sharp slap, forcing me to open my eyes quickly. Paralyzed with fear, I lost all ability to think and could only obey, abruptly snapping my eyes open…
Beside me now stood a man with captivating peach-blossom eyes, studying me with keen interest.
Staring at that flawlessly handsome face from every angle, my first thought wasn’t fear, but rather lines from the Book of Songs describing beautiful things. I realized he and this ancient verse were perfect for each other!
In this world, one should never fail to appreciate handsome men and delicious food.
