I’m Trapped in a Cube - Chapter 223
Without Jeff’s direction, these pseudo-mermen had already begun setting up.
They moved the bait boxes to the platform’s edge, then evenly distributed the boxes containing Immortal Wood spheres, placing them within arm’s reach.
Most people also took out several spheres from the boxes and stuffed them in their pockets.
Li Luo watched these pseudo-mermen’s operations with a confused expression, standing in place at a loss.
“You should watch from behind first. After you learn how to do it, then come help,” Jeff said, dropping this line before joining the team arranging the boxes.
Soon, all the boxes were completely set up.
“Prepare!”
With Jeff’s loud shout, everyone scattered, standing vigilantly near the Immortal Wood boxes.
The shrimp-headed person walked to the edge, took out a package of rotted food from a box, and threw it down toward the sea.
This package of food quickly fell into the deep fog, light and airy, making no sound.
The bait merged into the fog—no one knew whether it had fallen into the sea or not.
“Should be soon. Be careful.”
The shrimp-headed person didn’t approach the edge again, but instead opened a seasoning bottle and threw it toward the sea from a distance.
Then came another long wait. The shrimp-headed person would throw out a portion of bait every so often, his movements becoming increasingly cautious, carefully approaching the edge each time.
After repeating this several times, something unusual appeared in the fog. Something crawled out from the sea.
“They’re coming!”
The shrimp-headed person noticed the churning white shadows in the fog and instantly retreated, moving away from the edge.
In Mo Ling’s field of vision, some strange white shadows appeared.
Those were some kind of strip-shaped creatures floating in the air, like long eels with small white scale-like fins on both sides of their bodies.
But their movements were very strange, not at all like fish, but rather like writhing snakes, their fins played no role at all.
As more and more white eels appeared in his vision, Mo Ling discovered an even more peculiar aspect: these white eels were completely composed of stone blocks.
The body surface was rough white stone skin, and the interior was also stone, but these stones had distinct layers. There were clear textural divisions between bones and muscles, and the organs also had obvious shapes.
Just like completely petrified creatures.
Looking more closely, these white eels indeed bore strong resemblance to fossil characteristics.
“This is a fossil?” Mo Ling suddenly realized this wasn’t simple stone.
But fossils would only preserve hard parts, skin and muscles, these soft flesh parts should have eroded away completely long ago and shouldn’t exist.
“But how can fossils move? And float in the air?”
Just as Mo Ling was puzzled, these white eels were already writhing their bodies and flying to the platform’s edge.
“Can’t understand these Abyss creatures with normal thinking.”
Everyone present vigilantly watched the approaching white eels.
“First let them return!” After the shrimp-headed person retreated to a safe position, he immediately shouted.
With one command, the pseudo-mermen lifted up rotted black hard chunks and threw them at the white eels in the air.
Then Mo Ling witnessed an incredibly shocking scene.
The white eels that had been slowly wandering in the air, upon seeing the flying rotted hard chunks, rushed forward like sharks that had seen blood.
A white figure flashed instantly, the white eel directly passed through the airborne bait like a rapidly traveling needle.
“Passed through?”
Although it happened quickly, Mo Ling saw it clearly.
The white eel hadn’t made a hole in the bait, but like a ghost, had merged into it and drilled out again.
This fossil-like creature had no physical form at all!
“No wonder they can float in the air.”
But this wasn’t over. The next scene left Mo Ling even more dumbfounded.
The black hard chunk that had been passed through, the rot on its surface was actually slowly fading away!
Color began spreading from where the white eel had passed through. The black hard chunk gradually returned to its original unrotted appearance.
It was a hamburger!
First the vegetables and meat patty in the middle returned to their original state, then the bread slices on both sides. In the blink of an eye, a fresh hamburger had appeared out of nowhere in the air.
This scene happened so fast that the hamburger didn’t even fall to the ground.
“It can restore rotted food?” Mo Ling was startled.
Looking again at the fossil-like white eel, the stone scales on its body were actually beginning to fall off. A kind of transparent, reflective, clean gel substance appeared on its body.
It turned its head and rushed toward other bait, passing through them.
Another restoration, this time it was a handful of rotted vegetables that the white eel instantly made incredibly fresh.
The gel substance on the white eel also increased dramatically, beginning to replace the original fossil-like body.
After several repetitions, this white eel had become completely transparent, like a long piece of jelly, soft, clean, and beautiful.
“Quick! Catch it while you can!”
An Immortal Wood sphere, taking advantage of the white eel’s inattention, was thrown at it.
The white eel was obviously still focused on the continuously thrown bait and was hit squarely by the Immortal Wood sphere.
Unexpectedly, this ghost-like white eel was actually strongly attracted to the sphere, like a magnet. Its long body was instantly coiled into the sphere and disappeared inside.
Seeing this scene, Mo Ling suddenly understood.
“So that’s what the cages are for!”
Those Immortal Wood spheres seemed to have very strong binding power over the transparent white eels, easily capturing them and trapping them inside.
After catching this white eel, the sphere fell to the ground with inertia, but none of the pseudo-mermen present went to pick it up. Instead, they continued vigilantly watching the white eels constantly surging up.
Their numbers were increasing. After failing to compete for airborne bait, they would be attracted to the food boxes at the edge.
After shuttling through the boxes several times, they would transform into transparent form and be trapped by thrown spheres.
The pseudo-mermen had long since figured out how to deal with these creatures.
However, there would always be some that slipped through the net.
One white eel, after eating the airborne bait, didn’t go to the food boxes but instead targeted a pseudo-merman holding bait.
It was a pseudo-merman with a seal head, bloated body shape, and spots all over.
This white eel was very fast, constantly shuttling and dodging in the air. It was about to rush into that seal person.
“Watch out!” his companions immediately warned him.
He widened his eyes and quickly threw an Immortal Wood sphere.
However, this white eel hadn’t completely transformed yet. The sphere hit the stone-like outer skin and instantly bounced off.
The seal person wanted to dodge but had nowhere to escape.
A white shadow flashed past, and he froze in place.
Then his body began rapidly shrinking…
