I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 123
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
“Does it hurt a lot?!”
Hearing Li Pu’s words, Bai Gaoxing immediately grows anxious. His eyes dart around nervously before settling on the hand resting palm-up beside the bed. He leans down and carefully blows on it twice.
He then raises his eyes and asks, “Let me blow on it. Does it feel any better?”
The soft breath passes through the thick gauze, creating a faint, ticklish sensation.
Li Pu pauses for a moment before responding, “…Much better.”
Bai Gaoxing is about to blow on it again when he sees Li Pu pull his hand back. “It doesn’t hurt anymore.”
Is it really that effective? Bai Gaoxing is a bit surprised but still follows the man’s wish, covering his hand with the blanket.
“Are you hungry? Should I get you something to eat?”
Li Pu’s pitch-black eyes reflect the warm light, appearing incredibly gentle and endearing. Without thinking, he nods slightly, a warm feeling rising in his heart.
The young man really does care about me.
This realization eases the tension that Li Pu has been feeling, almost as if a furry coat has been smoothed out, leaving it sleek and shining with a gentle light.
Does this mean… I might have a chance?
For someone who always prepares for failure as the worst outcome, Li Pu dares to hope for success in that moment.
But Li Pu forgets one crucial thing—Bai Gaoxing can’t cook.
The hotel room is spacious and fully equipped. While they get meal deliveries every day, the room also comes with a kitchen stocked with simple, easy-to-store ingredients.
After the kitchen light stays on for what feels like an eternity, Bai Gaoxing finally emerges with a bowl of half-cooked pasta floating in plain water.
“Uh… do you think it’ll taste better with some sauce?”
The two sit across from each other at the dining table, staring silently at the bowl.
After a few seconds, Li Pu stands up. “I’ll do it.”
“But your hand is injured!” Bai Gaoxing exclaims, jumping to stop him.
“It’s fine,” Li Pu replies calmly, his voice fading as he disappears into the kitchen. “I still have my left hand.”
A short while later, Li Pu returns with two steaming bowls of fragrant noodles.
“I didn’t know… you could cook pasta,” Bai Gaoxing remarks between bites, clearly enjoying himself. A bit of sauce clings to the corner of his mouth. “Aren’t you eating?”
Only then does Li Pu slowly pick up his fork, twirl some pasta, and take a bite.
…
The next morning, everything is calm again.
Bai Gaoxing checks his phone first. The group chat for the film crew is very quiet, and there are no emails from the director.
Once he thinks about how danger could be hidden beneath such calm, a chill runs down his spine.
What if they can’t catch the person behind this? Will Li Pu face more danger in the future? Is this targeting Li Pu specifically, or is he just unlucky?
Bai Gaoxing is about to dive deeper into his thoughts when he hears noises coming from the bathroom. His body moves on instinct, and before he can process it, he is already out of bed and jogging toward the source of the sound.
Li Pu is struggling to squeeze toothpaste.
With his dominant right hand injured and tightly bandaged, even simple tasks have become challenging. He holds the toothbrush upright with one hand while awkwardly squeezing the toothpaste onto it.
It isn’t very stable and could easily topple over.
Bai Gaoxing hurries forward and takes the toothpaste from him. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“I wanted you to sleep a little longer,” Li Pu replies gently.
Bai Gaoxing freezes in place.
Then, he bites his lip. Why does that sound so… ambiguous?
It’s probably just my imagination.
Bai Gaoxing glances at himself in the mirror. Ever since he realizes he likes Li Pu, he finds himself overthinking everything.
Their dynamic hasn’t changed—has it?
Bai Gaoxing shakes his head. Maybe it’s just because he’s been bored without filming. After all, Adonis and Noah are originally a pair. Perhaps he’s just influenced by the roles.
But then… would Li Pu be affected too?
Bai Gaoxing pauses as he screws the toothpaste cap on, unable to resist glancing at the man beside him.
Li Pu’s expression is calm. There isn’t a hint of distress. If anything… is there even a trace of joy?
The thing Bai Gaoxing fears most is Li Pu sinking too deeply into his role and struggling to separate from his emotions. But now, it seems that “Adonis” has left no lasting mark on him.
Haha… that’s good, then.
Perhaps because he’s acting alongside Li Pu, Bai Gaoxing feels as though Li Pu only sees him as a parrot—a pet—which dulls any sense of emotional immersion.
Bai Gaoxing feels deeply conflicted. He should be happy that Li Pu is in good condition, but instead, a sense of frustration gnaws at him.
Why isn’t Li Pu affected by any of this?
To make matters worse, the distance he painstakingly established between them a few days ago has completely disappeared.
Li Pu, noticing the sudden shift in the young man’s mood, turns around with a questioning look.
Bai Gaoxing, holding a freshly washed towel, snaps, “Stretch your face over here!”
…
It’s as though the deliberate avoidance from a few days ago never happens.
The two of them interact as if everything is normal again.
Li Pu glances at Dabai, who lies on the other bed, playing with his phone. Without realizing it, his gaze lingers a little longer than usual.
Bai Gaoxing feels his grip on the phone weaken.
He props himself up against the soft pillow, grateful that his side profile is hidden behind his hair. Still, he can feel Li Pu’s gaze on him, steady and penetrating, as if it’s peeling away all his defenses.
What’s going on? Could Li Pu have figured out that I like him?
Bai Gaoxing endures the tension for as long as he can, but eventually, his face turns red. He turns to confront Li Pu, ready to ask What are you looking at?! But just as he opens his mouth, Li Pu has already turned his head away.
“…”
Defeated, Bai Gaoxing sulkily returns his attention to his phone and starts scrolling through today’s Weibo comments.
Fans are very concerned about Li Pu’s condition, often leaving comments or sending private messages asking about him. He only responds to a couple of people at the beginning but hasn’t had time to reply to more since then.
【XiaoBai, how’s Teacher Li doing?】
【XiaoBai, please take good care of Teacher Li, wu wu wu…】
【Oh my god, if they can’t catch the culprit, will they just call it an accident?】
【This time, both Teacher Park and Teacher Li got hurt. Who knows how many people will get hurt next time?】
Reading this, Bai Gaoxing clears his throat awkwardly. It seems no one knows that Park Jiahui was injured by Darren’s excessive force.
Then, the next comment catches his attention.
【By the way, Teacher Park and Teacher Li seem to have a lot of fate together. They debuted around the same time, and they’ve competed for the same awards a few times, although Teacher Li always won, haha.】
Someone responds:
【Actually, Teacher Li debuted a little later than Teacher Park. I remember they worked on a TV show together early on, and Teacher Li won Best Supporting Actor. Originally, I think Teacher Park was competing with someone else, but that person got replaced last minute. Oh, and the person who was replaced was another promising young actor. What a pity we never saw him again…】
【Teacher Park’s luck doesn’t work out with Teacher Li, 2333.】
【Honestly, Teacher Park’s acting is fine, but I prefer Teacher Li~】
【Do you guys never get tired? I think Teacher Li’s acting is really bad, yet he wins awards every time. Who knows if there’s any backstage manipulation.】
【LOL, someone’s getting desperate. Well, I’d like to point out that people who work with Park Gaohui often have mysterious ‘issues’ and get replaced last minute. Could it be that Park is using his connections? And what about all those promising juniors from his company who retired after a few years? Suspicious, right? maybe it’s related to him!】
No wonder that person seems to hate Li Pu so much.
Staring at his phone, Bai Gaoxing pieces it together. So this grudge dates back years ago—but it’s entirely one-sided on Park Jiahui’s part.
Sigh, I don’t want to think about this anymore.
Bai Gaoxing puts down his phone and calls the front desk to ask for a glass of juice.
A knock comes at the door shortly after. As he gets out of bed to answer it, the door across the hall opens at the same time, and Bai Gaoxing finds himself making eye contact with the man inside.
“Isn’t this Teacher Bai, the translator?” Park Jiahui smiles, his eyes crinkling with a pleasant expression. “How is Teacher Li’s injury?”
Bai Gaoxing takes half a step back, keeping his expression neutral. “Thanks for your concern, Teacher Park. It’s nothing serious.”
“Is that so?”
There’s a faint trace of regret in the man’s voice.
Bai Gaoxing furrows his brows. He takes the juice from the waiter and says goodbye to Park Jiahui. After closing the door, he sees Li Pu standing by the window, talking on the phone. It seems like he says something, then helplessly calls out:
“…Mom.”
Bai Gaoxing freezes, caught off guard.
Probably noticing that he’s back, Li Pu turns around, says a few more words into the phone, and hangs up.
Bai Gaoxing hesitates for a moment, then walks over and hands him the juice. “Do you want some?”
Li Pu takes the juice and says, “The director wants us to go over there.”
“Has there been any progress?” Bai Gaoxing asks in surprise.
“Not sure,” Li Pu replies, dialing Mei Youshu’s number.
…Why would they need to call the assistant over as well? Bai Gaoxing wonders, observing Park Jiahui and his assistant, who have come out of the room across the hall.
…
“The number of props is consistent, which suggests someone deliberately hid the real knives in. But it’s already been two days, so the evidence might have been destroyed—none of the actors’ or staff members’ rooms contain anything suspicious.”
“The surveillance cameras haven’t been tampered with, but too many people went in and out of the prop storage room. Especially when the ill-fitting dealer uniforms were replaced earlier. It’s likely that the fake prop was swapped during that time… In short, anyone could be a suspect.”
“The prop master has cried several times already, saying that if she can’t clear her name, her career is over.”
“Right now, the suspects are limited to the actors involved at that time.”
In the director’s room, Frank and the screenwriter, along with a few trusted assistants, gather to discuss the investigation results.
The culprit seems to have planned everything meticulously, hiding their tracks and blending in with the group, making it almost impossible to find any solid clues.
When Bai Gaoxing enters the room, he is surprised to see Darren and Nitia there, along with their respective assistants.
Mei Youshu quietly greets Park Jiahui’s assistant, while Park Jiahui smirks faintly.
Frank sits at the center of the desk, hands folded, watching them with a strange glint in his eyes. “Ladies and gentlemen, I’m sorry, but we haven’t been able to determine who did this. For now, we have to consider it an accident. However, the filming schedule has been delayed for a long time, and with Teacher Li’s serious hand injury, after much discussion, we’ve decided to replace the actor playing Adonis.”
“What!?” Both Bai Gaoxing and Darren exclaim in shock.
“Why? Isn’t Li Pu the victim here?” Darren strides forward angrily, slamming his hands on Frank’s desk. “You should replace the one responsible! They almost cost Li Pu his life!”
“I understand your frustration,” Frank says evenly, meeting Darren’s glare. “But without sufficient evidence, we need to prioritize the film’s progress.”
Mei Youshu’s eyes widen in disbelief, but he manages to suppress his anger—maintaining his professional composure as an assistant. “Alright. In that case, we’ll need to discuss the issue of liquidated damages.”
Frank nods. “Of course.”
Bai Gaoxing instinctively glances at Li Pu, his mind racing.
This can’t happen! he thinks—his first instinct is pure rejection.
I’m definitely not going to kiss another “Adonis”!—this is his second thought.
Li Pu, please say something!
Bai Gaoxing feels a bit anxious. Why is Li Pu so calm? They are halfway through filming, and replacing someone now? The impact is going to be huge!
Why does he look so calm about all of this?
Lost in his swirling thoughts, Bai Gaoxing forgets to declare, “If Li Pu isn’t acting, I’m not acting either.” Instead, he blankly follows Li Pu out of the office.
“They’re crossing the line, Li. You can’t let them get away with this,” Darren says, his expression serious as he approaches.
“I know,” Li Pu replies simply, nodding.
Soon, news of Li Pu’s impending departure quickly spreads throughout the crew.
Many of the cast members, who admire Li Pu for his exceptional acting skills, dedication, and charisma, are shocked and confused by the announcement. Some even question Frank directly about the decision.
Bai Gaoxing spends another uneasy day in this tense atmosphere, but in the evening, he suddenly receives a reassuring text from Lei Li.
【Don’t worry.】
Meanwhile, when Li Pu goes out to grab dinner, he runs into Park Jiahui in the hallway.
“Shall we talk?” The curly-haired man leans against the doorframe, looking like he has been waiting for him.
“What do you want to say?” Li Pu asks, his tone neutral.
The two of them walk to a secluded corner, where there is a camera and two large potted plants.
“Nothing, just wanted to chat before you leave,” Park Jiahui says with a polite smile. “After all, we’ve known each other for quite a while, and we’ve worked together a few times.”
“Is that so?” Li Pu stares at him coldly. “Then, is this how you’ve sent other newcomers packing as well?”
Park Jiahui’s smile falters. He hasn’t expected Li Pu to be so blunt.
Li Pu remains calm and collected. “The variety show three years ago. The crew two years ago. Do you always do this?”
Park Jiahui’s gaze hardens, though he quickly masks it with a smirk. “So your agent told you about those incidents? No surprise. But do you have any proof?”
“Proof? Isn’t all the evidence with you?” Li Pu counters, his tone icy. “Your acting’s quite impressive, Mr. Park.”
“No matter how good my acting is, it could never outshine the great Emperor Li,” Park Jiahui says, leaning against the wall and laughing.
What starts as a seemingly casual conversation spirals into a full-blown confrontation.
Park Jiahui looks at the man in front of him. Years of jealousy and anger erupt in this moment. “After all, I’m just a pathetic person who can’t get anything.”
“The newcomers you’ve sabotaged and the people around you—now, they’re the real victims,” Li Pu says calmly, pausing for emphasis. “But everything that happened today… is, indeed, a gamble.”
At that moment, Li Pu’s phone buzzes in his pocket. He pulls it out and taps the screen.
Park Jiahui raises an eyebrow. “Recording? That won’t do you any good.”
“No, what you said is already in the past,” Li Pu’s finger slides across the screen. “Let’s see how the crew handles your case from here on out.”
[Regarding the incident where actor Park Jiahui maliciously tampers with crew props, resulting in Mr. Li Pu’s injury, the “Casino” production team has issued the following statement…]
Meanwhile, in his room, Bai Gaoxing sits bolt upright in bed.
His hand holding the phone trembles slightly. Without thinking, he long-presses the forward button!
