I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 121
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
The kiss scene is finished, but Noah and Adonis’s storyline isn’t entirely over.
A day later, Bai Gaoxing and Li Pu return to the small room.
This time, since there is no need to capture the dawn’s early light, Frank schedules the shoot at a more relaxed hour. Consequently, more actors come to watch than last time.
In the slightly noisy room, Bai Gaoxing sits quietly by the bed, staring out the window in a daze.
“Alright, alright, we’re about to start. Bai, have you gotten your emotions in check?” Frank signals for everyone to be quiet and asks Bai Gaoxing with a smile.
“Ah…?” Bai Gaoxing, caught daydreaming, clears his throat awkwardly. “Okay, Frank.”
This scene is set during the time Noah is terminally ill, and Adonis proposes to him with a ring.
The entire day yesterday, Bai Gaoxing has been mentally preparing himself—it is a heavy emotional burden for a little parrot who has only just come to terms with his own feelings and decides to keep them suppressed.
With the makeup artist’s help, the boy’s healthy complexion is transformed into a sickly, fragile look, giving him an almost translucent, vulnerable feel.
Bai Gaoxing, with pale makeup on his face, leans against the bed. The wind from the half-open window blows in, lifting his pure white hair on his forehead and side. The sunlight bathes him, making him almost glow.
Noah is on the brink of death.
Both of them know this.
But the lovers try to hide their sadness, pretending everything is fine, showing their happiest sides to each other.
That very day, Adonis takes out the ring he bought a long time ago.
The man sits on the edge of the bed, gently sliding the gem-encrusted ring onto the boy’s finger. After carefully examining it, he places a light kiss on the boy’s hand.
Bai Gaoxing lowers his gaze, looking at the sparkling ring on his finger. No one knows that his heart is pounding wildly at that moment.
Following the script, he raises his hand and places it in the sunlight, showing a soft, radiant smile.
He can almost feel the warmth of the man’s lingering body heat on the ring, mixing with the warmth of the sunlight, making his whole body feel like it is burning.
“Cut, cut, cut!”
Frank’s voice suddenly interrupts the scene. “Bai, your face is too red. The makeup can’t cover it.”
Bai Gaoxing freezes and instinctively looks at Li Pu.
Li Pu leans slightly closer, examining him. “Your ears.”
The boy’s delicate ears are a bright crimson, and there is a faint blush on the skin that isn’t covered by thick makeup.
Bai Gaoxing quickly raises his hand to cover them. “Is it bad?”
He can hear his own heart thumping crazily.
Frank continues, “You don’t need to be so shy. You’re not a pair of inexperienced lovers anymore. You’ve done everything you need to do, no need to blush. Here, Noah is already feeling that his life is almost over, a calm mixed with happiness and sadness.”
Hearing these words, Bai Gaoxing’s face grows even hotter. Though it is about the two characters in the script, he immediately thinks about himself and Li Pu…
Bai Gaoxing stammers, “O-Okay… I understand.”
It takes six takes to get the ring scene right.
As the director and others discuss which scene to shoot next, Bai Gaoxing lies back on the bed to calm down. However, after a long while, he still can’t shake off the feeling and covers his face, wanting to cry out in frustration.
What can he do to completely shift his focus away from Li Pu?
Since the kissing scene was shot the day before, Bai Gaoxing has been avoiding eye contact and minimizing interactions with Li Pu, but nothing works. No matter how much he immerses himself in distractions, his mind remains a mess.
He regrets everything. If only he hadn’t gone to the bar that day.
He wants to scream. If he doesn’t go to the bar that day, he can go through each day with ease. Even if he goes and doesn’t get drunk, he can deal with the budding feelings calmly. But after drunkenly hugging Li Pu… everything changes.
Sigh.
He needs to distract himself, to focus on something else entirely.
“Li, what does this line mean?”
Suddenly, Darren’s voice comes from the door.
Bai Gaoxing turns his head and sees Darren, holding the script, asking Li Pu about the lines.
Darren’s English is shaky at best, but with Li Pu now fluent in French, daily communication between the two isn’t an issue.
In the past, Bai Gaoxing wouldn’t have said anything, but now, in order to stay occupied—
He suddenly sits up in bed, his “dying” expression forgotten, and blurts out, “It means ‘never give up.’”
Darren looks at him in surprise.
“Wait a second,” Frank says disapprovingly, “Bai, I’m filming you.”
Frank is setting up the scene.
He has been framing a shot, hoping to capture scenes of Noah suffering quietly in bed. Instead, the boy suddenly sits up, breaking the mood entirely.
Bai Gaoxing quickly lies back down, his face red. “Sorry.”
“Pfft.” Darren can’t help but laugh. He hooks his arm around Li Pu’s shoulder and pulls him outside, asking seriously, “Are you sure you’re not lovers?”
Before Li Pu can shake his head, Darren adds, “Don’t be so quick to deny it. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”
Li Pu helplessly replies, “We’re really not.”
“Alright, forgive me for asking again. It’s just that you two are so close all the time,” Darren says.
It’s hard not to notice Li Pu’s excessive care for Bai Gaoxing, which has definitely gone beyond the relationship of actor and translator. And the boy also has an unconscious closeness to Li Pu. Darren often sees the two of them speaking to each other with their bodies close together.
And during that proposal scene earlier… Darren could’ve sworn he catches a glimpse of something in their eyes—something more than acting.
Darren blinks. Could it be his imagination?
Li Pu smiles and shifts his gaze back to the room.
Not right now, perhaps.
He has already made up his mind. Once this film is finished, he will confess his feelings to the boy.
Whether Dabai gets scared off or rejects him…
Li Pu doesn’t want to think about those possibilities right now.
For once, he decides he won’t let fear of irreversible consequences hold him back.
After all, this is his Dabai.
However—
“Brother Li, did Dabai argue with you?”
After wrapping up the cabin scene, on the way back, Mei Youshu quietly asks the man beside him while watching the boy walking ahead with big steps.
“No.” Li Pu says, his gaze lingering on the boy’s figure ahead.
Even the assistant notices something is off with the boy lately.
It seems like… Dabai is avoiding him.
…
Dinner that evening is veal steak and fried eggs.
The fried eggs, in particular, smell amazing. The moment the plates are served, Bai Gaoxing’s eyes light up. Li Pu has long known that Dabai has a habit of saving his favorite food for last. So, when he notices Bai Gaoxing hasn’t touched his fried egg, he casually reaches over with his chopsticks to take it.
But to his surprise—
“No need!” Bai Gaoxing suddenly shields his plate, his eyes widening like a frightened little animal. He even takes the plate away, leaving Li Pu’s chopsticks suspended in mid-air, still holding the fried egg.
As expected, it isn’t his imagination.
At home, when Li Pu gives the boy his favorite food, Bai Gaoxing always holds the bowl with an expectant expression.
But now…
“Won’t eat it?” Li Pu tries to extend his chopsticks.
The boy stares at the fried egg for a long time, obviously reluctant, then shakes his head. “I’m so tired today… No need to give it to me. You eat it!”
Li Pu doesn’t push further, but for the rest of the evening, he keeps a close eye on the boy.
He notices the boy’s occasional glances at him and the conflicted expressions on his face. What troubles him the most is that the boy would rather watch the actors on set than spend more time with him in the hotel room.
This is the first time Dabai behaves so unwilling to be close to him.
After the boy leaves, Li Pu lies on the bed, lost in thought for a while, then takes out his phone to type:
【Why has the person I like suddenly stopped paying attention to me?】
【Familiar username. Familiar situation.】
【Upstairs, what’s so familiar about a default username and avatar?】
【Upstairs, in such a dramatic post, isn’t it extra special to stick with the defaults?】
Yes, Li Pu can’t come up with a solution, so he turns to the enthusiastic CP fan community once again for help.
The previous post, which is ridiculed hundreds of times by netizens for its overly dramatic title—”The person I like doesn’t seem to like me”—without any confession involved, is ironically pinned in the essence section as a cautionary tale and a source of humor.
【What’s the problem this time, bro?】
【Did you confess? Did it fail?】
Facing the netizens’ questions, Li Pu replies: 【I didn’t confess.】
【Well, that’s strange,】 someone says. 【When they suddenly stop talking to you, it usually means you did something to make them uncomfortable. Did you do something to them?】
Did he do something…?
Li Pu thinks carefully. His schedule during the filming period has been fairly routine—moving between the hotel and the set. The only thing he does outside of work is returning to the hotel once. Nothing stands out…
Wait—could it be that?
The more he thinks about it, the more plausible it seems. His brows furrow slightly as he types back: 【We kissed.】
【??????】
【!!!!!!!!!!】
【Holy shit, impressive!】
【You went for it without confessing???!!!】
【You’re a pervert!!】
【…】
Li Pu’s fingers pause on the screen, but since he can’t say it’s because of filming, he just types: 【Special reason.】
【Hehe, what’s next? Are you going to say it was because a snake bit his lips and you kissed him to suck out the venom?】
【…】
Li Pu exits the thread.
Is it because of that kiss? Could it really have made Dabai uncomfortable?
Li Pu can’t be sure. He only remembers the boy’s flushed face and his eyes looking like he’s about to cry.
Meanwhile, new posts quickly replace his in the discussion forum. Without any reply from him, the thread is pushed down and buried beneath fresher gossip.
【Aaaaah, Li Pu and Bai Gaoxing seem to have filmed a kissing scene!】
Netizens swarm the post like sharks catching the scent of blood. 【What happened?!】
The uproar begins when someone notices chatter beneath one of Assistant Mei Youshu’s public Weibo posts. As Li Pu’s assistant, Mei Youshu occasionally shares Li Pu’s daily activities along with photos and updates. Sometimes, those photos include Bai Gaoxing.
Today, Mei Youshu posts on Weibo, and someone asks if he knows where Li Pu is filming. He casually replies—before quickly deleting his response.
【Luckily, I was fast enough to screenshot it!】
The screenshot shows Mei Youshu’s uncertain reply: 【It seems like a kissing scene?】
Ever since they found out that Adonis and Noah from Casino are a couple, the CP fans have been celebrating like it’s the New Year. Especially after learning that the original story has both a kissing and bed scene, they worry whether those parts will be cut out.
But now… heh!
In another room, Mei Youshu slaps his forehead in frustration.
Li Pu, however, doesn’t see the new post. After mulling over his guesses, he turns off his phone with a heavy heart and closes his eyes, hoping to rest.
When he wakes up, his eyes instinctively flick to the bed next to him. It’s still untouched, the sheets as smooth as they were before.
It’s already 10 PM.
Dabai has been out for almost three hours.
Noticing this, Li Pu quickly gets up. Though the filming location is nearby, he still can’t help but feel uneasy.
He puts on his jacket, grabs the room card, and makes his way to the casino section rented out by the film crew. It’s still noisy due to regular customers, but he can easily hear familiar voices.
Turning his head, he sees the crew on a break. The actors are standing in groups, and in the center, Dabai is talking to Darren, laughing, his raised eyebrows and relaxed expression completely different from when he’s with Li Pu. Even his smile…
Li Pu gazes at Dabai deeply. It feels like it’s been days since he last saw the boy smile like that in front of him.
“Hey! Li!”
Li Pu, a tall and imposing figure, stands in the brightly lit hall, naturally drawing attention. Darren spots him quickly and waves, calling out in greeting.
Under the lights, the boy standing next to Darren is gently nudged by him, signaling him to look in Li Pu’s direction. Almost instantly, Bai Gaoxing’s expression shifts—from surprise to a much more restrained smile.
The change is subtle, but Li Pu feels it.
A strange, sour feeling wells up in his chest, one he can’t ignore.
But he still walks over and asks, “Aren’t you going back?”
Bai Gaoxing glances at Darren, who nudges him playfully. “I’ll be filming here until midnight. You two should go rest.”
Bai Gaoxing nods, walks up to Li Pu’s side, and says awkwardly, “Then, let’s go back.”
The walk back is unusually quiet.
Normally, Dabai chatters on while Li Pu listens and replies here and there. Now, the boy says nothing, and the silence between them feels heavy and awkward.
Bai Gaoxing doesn’t expect Li Pu to come looking for him tonight. He also doesn’t imagine there would ever be a day when he wouldn’t know what to say to him.
He deliberately slows his pace, watching the shadow behind Li Pu, staring at the long hem of his coat. He can’t help but reach out to grab it.
Although it’s only the shadow he holds.
And it’s just something he thinks to try.
Bai Gaoxing sighs deeply, pushing away the bitterness in his heart, thinking to himself that this is fine.
He has already received so much from Li Pu. More than he ever thought he’d get. Asking for anything else would be like chasing an impossible dream.
After lying down on the hotel bed, Bai Gaoxing wraps himself up in the blanket again, hoping he can maintain this state tomorrow. He can slowly, slowly stop liking Li Pu and get back on the right track of their lives.
But it seems too hard.
The next morning, when Bai Gaoxing wakes up, he sees Li Pu already dressed in his uniform, looking sharp and professional.
“Are you coming to the set with me?” Li Pu asks, his tone neutral.
Bai Gaoxing hesitates before answering, “I won’t go.”
Trying to justify himself, he adds with a forced laugh, “You can communicate with them just fine now. Practicing more will help improve your speaking and listening skills.”
He swings his legs playfully and jokes, “At this rate, maybe after this filming, I’ll be out of a job.”
Li Pu doesn’t say anything.
When Bai Gaoxing hears the sound of the door closing behind him, he rolls himself deeper into the quilt, burying his face in the soft cotton fabric.
He thinks his plan is perfect. If he stays out of Li Pu’s way, he can eventually let go of his feelings.
But then something unexpected happens.
“Something happened on set.” There’s a rush of hurried footsteps outside, followed by an urgent knock on his door. “I heard Mr. Li got injured.”
