Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

During the time they are away, the bed is already specially tidied up by the hotel staff, with dry and warm sheets and covers.

Bai Gaoxing sits on the soft bed, feeling as if he is about to sink into it.

His fingers are still hooked on Li Pu’s cuffs, just passing through the holes in his shirt.

Bai Gaoxing’s back stiffens for a moment, then slowly relaxes, and his shoulders are no longer so tense.

“Let’s sleep for a while. I’m feeling sleepy too,” he says.

Perhaps his suggestion is too rash, but it isn’t made without thought.

Bai Gaoxing stares seriously at the man before him, realizing he’s deeply unsettled by a vivid dream. Left alone with his thoughts, his mind becomes uncontrollably chaotic.

Yet, compared to the illusions of a dream, he is more concerned about Li Pu’s well-being.

He recalls how, for a long period, Li Pu sits silently and forlornly in the corner of a sofa. As the sun dips below the horizon, his figure is gradually swallowed by the encroaching darkness.

Bai Gaoxing doesn’t want to see that scene again.

Bai Gaoxing shifts closer to the bed, patting the empty space beside him. “Come on! You can only keep working if you’ve rested properly.”

With that, he lifts the quilt, climbs in, and sits on the bed, looking at Li Pu expectantly.

He is sitting on Li Pu’s bed.

Bai Gaoxing’s eyes are filled with hope. He doesn’t think Li Pu will refuse. After all, they have slept together at home before. When they fall asleep, Bai Gaoxing often rolls around, and sometimes, when he wakes up, he finds that he has crawled into Li Pu’s arms.

Sure enough, after a brief silence, the man sits on the edge of the bed.

Bai Gaoxing feels relieved that his assumption is correct. It strengthens his resolve to help Li Pu relax.

After removing his coat, Bai Gaoxing reaches over, tugs off Li Pu’s coat, and pulls him down onto the bed.

They are lying almost face to face.

Li Pu’s eyes, like the deep night sky, captivate Bai Gaoxing. He has never looked at them so closely before. From this distance, he can see that those eyes hold only him.

Bai Gaoxing subconsciously holds his breath. After a moment, he asks, “You didn’t sleep well. Was it because of filming?”

Li Pu doesn’t respond.

His silence only confirms Bai Gaoxing’s suspicion. After quietly observing the man for a while, Bai Gaoxing leans forward, wrapping his arms around Li Pu’s head and pulling him into an embrace.

Li Pu stiffens in surprise.

Bai Gaoxing isn’t sure what he is feeling. What lingers in his mind is the heavy, somber expression Li Pu wears while filming The Long Song. He also recalls the moment when Li Pu buries his face against him. Even now, Bai Gaoxing can remember the man’s scorching breath and the weariness in his eyes that can’t be hidden.

Resting his chin on Li Pu’s hair, Bai Gaoxing hugs him the same way Li Pu often holds him as a parrot. “Is this better?”

“…Mm.” After a long time, a low response comes from his arms.

It is the first time Bai Gaoxing witnesses Li Pu’s vulnerability, and it stirs something within him. His fingers instinctively brush against the back of Li Pu’s head as he murmurs, “Relax a little.”

But just seconds later, a powerful force comes from behind. Li Pu’s broad, slender hand grips Bai Gaoxing’s shoulder, and with a sudden tug, Bai Gaoxing’s vision blurs as he is pulled into a firm, warm embrace.

The reversal of their positions happens in an instant. Bai Gaoxing stares in shock, his eyes wide, unable to process what has just happened.

His ears seem to ring, his heart pounds fiercely, and his gaze falls to the wooden floor. The arm encircling his back tightens gradually, stopping just before it becomes suffocating, as though Li Pu wants to hold him even closer.

Soon after, Bai Gaoxing feels Li Pu shift slightly, his chin brushing against the top of his head and sending a tingling sensation through him.

It is the first time he has been held so intimately.

“Do you… like this?” Bai Gaoxing blinks, hesitant. “If you do… it’s also okay.”

Li Pu lowers his gaze, feeling the warmth of the young body in his arms and inhaling the fresh, familiar scent lingering on Bai Gaoxing. His heartbeat speeds up uncontrollably.

Even though this isn’t for a scene, he has still deceived Dabai to get closer—something he finds both shameful and unavoidable.

He vividly remembers the advice from forum posts he has read: intimate physical contact can bring two people closer.

But after doing it, he realizes it isn’t as good as he expects.

The feeling of holding someone in your arms is that it leaves you wanting more.

Li Pu’s gaze darkens for a moment, and he slowly closes his eyes, attempting to calm the heat rising in his chest. However, it isn’t long before the boy in his arms begins to squirm.

“Li Pu,” Bai Gaoxing whispers, “you’re holding me too tightly, it’s a bit hot.”

He pokes Li Pu’s chest. It feels firm, a sign that Li Pu hasn’t relaxed at all.

Li Pu stiffens further at the touch but loosens his grip slightly. Bai Gaoxing takes the opportunity to wriggle a bit, turning around so he can breathe the unobstructed, fresh air.

“Don’t move.” Li Pu’s voice behind him carries an uncharacteristic urgency, and his hand presses firmly against Bai Gaoxing’s waist.

“Okay.” Bai Gaoxing stays still.

He stares blankly at the other end of the pillow, feeling the growing warmth behind his neck, and can’t help but shrink a little.

The breath against his skin feels scorching.

Unable to help himself, he adjusts his posture again, but the hand on his waist tightens, and his body softens for no reason, almost making him moan.

“Sleep,” Li Pu’s voice comes from behind, steady but strained.

Bai Gaoxing holds his breath, lying motionless with his back pressed against Li Pu’s chest. He can almost feel Li Pu’s heartbeat against his back.

I can’t sleep at all, they both think simultaneously.

The air conditioner hasn’t been turned on since the morning. The room isn’t warm—in fact, it’s slightly chilly—but both of them are nearly drenched in sweat.

That shower was wasted. This thought lingers in Bai Gaoxing’s mind as his heartbeat quickens, leaving him dizzy.

Li Pu resists the desire stirred by the close contact and slowly withdraws his hand from Bai Gaoxing’s waist.

Maybe… I shouldn’t have tried this in the first place.

After some time, Li Pu’s exhaustion begins to take over. He hasn’t rested much the previous night, and now sleepiness sweeps over him like a tide. His eyelids grow heavy, and for a brief moment, it seems like he might finally fall asleep.

Just as he is about to fully close his eyes and drift off, the warmth in front of him suddenly disappears.

Startled, Li Pu opens his eyes and is greeted by a fluffy white bird perched in front of him, its dark eyes staring at him guiltily.

“Ga…” Bai Gaoxing chirps awkwardly. “It’s cooler this way.”

Indeed.

Li Pu watches him for a while before the corners of his lips curve into a smile. This time, he scoops up the parrot without hesitation, pressing Bai Gaoxing gently against his neck. Breathing in the clean, warm scent of his feathers, Li Pu closes his eyes.

…

It is close to evening when the door is knocked loudly.

“Hey! Are you awake? Tonight we—” Darren knocks forcefully on the door, and his voice stops abruptly when he sees the man opening the door. “Brother, you don’t look so good.”

Li Pu, who has only managed three hours of sleep, stands at the door with an indescribable expression on his face. He never expected the young man to turn back into his human form after falling asleep, and from that point on, Li Pu hadn’t been able to sleep at all.

“I slept a lot,” Li Pu replies, somewhat understanding Darren’s implication but brushing it off.

Darren studies his face and thinks to himself, This doesn’t look like someone who slept well—it looks more like unsatisfied desire.

Peering inside the room, Darren asks, “Where’s Bai?”

“He’ll be up soon.”

“Wow~” Darren nods with exaggerated admiration. “Alright, I’ll wait for you downstairs.”

Darren’s figure quickly disappears down the hallway.

Bai Gaoxing shuffles over in slippers, rubbing his eyes. “Didn’t they send us food tonight?”

“Frank said he’d treat us after filming,” Li Pu repeats the message from the group chat. From the hotel’s lunch delivery, he retrieves two loaves of ready-to-eat bread. “It’ll probably be late. Eat something for now.”

“Oh…” Bai Gaoxing, still groggy, takes one of the loaves. He opens it, takes a bite, then looks up and asks, “Have you eaten?”

“Not yet,” Li Pu replies.

Without hesitation, Bai Gaoxing unwraps the second loaf with lightning-fast hands and stuffs it into Li Pu’s mouth.

…

The casino setup is ready.

When the two arrive at the next filming location, most of the cast and crew are already there, holding cakes or bread to fill their stomachs.

As soon as Li Pu and Bai Gaoxing enter, all eyes turn toward them.

Tonight, a scene featuring Adonis is being filmed.

The dealers are already dressed in their uniforms—white tops and black bottoms. The fitted clothing accentuates their slim waists and long legs, paired with white gloves that add a sense of professionalism and elegance.

Bai Gaoxing spots Park Jiahui in the crowd. He, too, is dressed in a fitted dealer uniform. Although he wears a smile, his expression betrays a hint of impatience.

In Casino, most of the scenes set in the casino revolve around the gambling tables in the back room. The space is lavishly decorated to capture the atmosphere of a high-stakes gambling den.

The black wooden round tables, polished to a mirror-like shine, are neatly arranged, while the carpet, with its intricate patterns and surreal tones, seems to resemble a monstrous gaping maw. Champagne and red wine are prepared in abundance, and the air is infused with oxygen to create an artificial sense of exhilaration—a feeling often referred to as “getting high.”

Frank, ever committed to realism, doesn’t hold back on the high-concentration oxygen, which has everyone brimming with energy.

“Alright, Adonis, you’re the last one,” Frank says, coming over to hug Li Pu. His excitement is evident, his face slightly flushed. “But no worries, the male lead’s scene with Blake is up first. I’ll film the two parts separately, so take your time getting changed.”

He turns to Bai Gaoxing with a grin. “And Bai! That costume is custom-made for you—it’s perfect!”

Bai Gaoxing returns a polite smile.

“Almost forgot this.” Frank takes out his phone. “I need to send your final photos to the team. No one’s leaving you out.”

“Alright.” After a few quick actions, Frank puts his phone down, his tone full of enthusiasm. “Trust me, they’re going to go crazy for you!”

Bai Gaoxing tenses up slightly at his words. “Hmm… I’ll try my best!”

Frank, satisfied, hurries off to check on something else.

“It looks like Frank has high expectations for you.” Nitia, who has come to watch tonight, walks over, her eyes full of sympathy and a little empathy. “You’ll have a rough time ahead. Good luck—you’re going to need it.”

Frank is notorious in the industry for his obsession with detail, especially when he has a “feeling” about an actor. If someone doesn’t meet his standards, they are stuck reshooting the same scene over and over again.

Bai Gaoxing has heard about this and sighs helplessly. “I just hope I can meet his expectations.”

This is his first time acting in a movie.

Nitia wishes him “good luck,” then smiles, glancing between him and Li Pu a few times. With a wave, she walks off.

Her expression is a little odd. Bai Gaoxing touches his face, checking for bread crumbs, but finds nothing.

The scenes aren’t being filmed in chronological order. This particular sequence depicts the male protagonist returning to the casino as a dealer, working with the boss to cheat, getting caught, and then facing Blake, who threatens to cut off his hand.

In the story, this is the busiest time for the casino, making the chaos even more dramatic when the male protagonist is caught cheating.

The extras are already seated at the gambling tables, ready for action. The moment the director calls “Action,” one of them stands up and shouts. Darren, who plays the male lead, is grabbed by an “inspector” responsible for overseeing the dealers. Two security guards rush in and force him to his knees.

The camera pans to a pair of shiny leather shoes.

This marks the entrance of Blake, the casino’s shift manager.

Blake’s role is equivalent to that of a manager—his job is to patrol the floor, spot issues, and address unexpected problems.

Park Jiahui’s appearance on camera is striking. His wolf-like eyes, cold and cunning, make him unnervingly photogenic. Frank, watching through the monitor, shouts, “Yes!” in approval.

Bai Gaoxing watches in awe, shocked at how seamlessly Park Jiahui embodies the role. Is this… what it means to fully become a character?

Blake approaches the male lead with a hypocritical smile that sends chills down everyone’s spine. He orders the security guards to take Darren to a secluded corner.

Darren, lying on the floor, glares up at Blake with defiance burning in his eyes, struggling against his captors.

“Didn’t expect you to have such guts,” Blake says, holding a thin wooden pointer in his hand. His tone is almost mocking as he lists the male lead’s offenses. “If I’m not mistaken, this is the second time you’ve been caught, isn’t it?”

The male lead remains silent, glaring at him.

“Speak.” Blake frowns in displeasure. The silence seems to challenge his authority, and his irritation grows. He slaps the male lead’s face with the pointer, each strike harder than the last.

The male lead, with red marks on his face, sneers. “So what? It’s better than all of you idiots here who can’t spot anything.”

Blake’s expression twists, anger flashing across his face.

Blake is a man consumed by greed.

He has no innate talent for calculation and only manages to secure his position through connections and ambition. Early on, he attempts to work as a dealer, hoping to rise through the ranks inconspicuously, but fails miserably. He can’t handle the complex calculations required of a dealer or create the dynamic atmosphere needed at the gambling table. His shortcomings quickly become apparent, and he is reassigned. This failure makes him the subject of ridicule among dealers unaware of his true identity.

As a villain on the hero and heroine’s journey, his methods of pursuing profit are ruthless and cruel.

After hearing the male lead’s words, he reveals a cruel yet gentle smile. “Since you’ve broken the casino’s rules, I have no choice but to punish you on behalf of the boss,” he says.

His shiny leather shoe presses down on the male lead’s fingers. “I’ll buy these hands for two hundred dollars.”

As he speaks, he slowly presses down, his movements deliberate. The crushing weight causes the hero’s face to flush red in pain.

“Stop!” Frank’s voice interrupts sharply. “Cut! This isn’t right,” he says, shaking his head. “Blake’s initial reaction should be lighthearted, almost mocking. But after hearing the hero’s words, he should snap, furious.”

Turning to Park Jiahui, Frank frowns. “You’re coming across as impatient. Are you feeling okay?”

“Sorry,” Park Jiahui responds. “Maybe my focus is off.”

“Alright, let’s do it again.”

This scene is filmed a total of eight times.

After the eighth take, Frank furrows his brow and nods, albeit reluctantly. “Okay,” he mutters. “That’s good.”

Darren gets up from the floor, holding his reddened hand with a grimace.

Bai Gaoxing takes a closer look and sees that the back of Darren’s hand is swollen and bruised, the skin red from repeated takes.

“Sorry,” Park Jiahui says, apologizing proactively. “Did I use too much force?”

“It’s fine.” Darren gives him a deep look, blows on his hand, then grins and shakes it off.

Bai Gaoxing observes the interaction silently, noting Darren’s flushed face and Park Jiahui’s composed demeanor. A hint of wariness creeps into his thoughts toward Park Jiahui.

Once this scene is done, it’s time for Adonis to make his dramatic entrance to rescue the male lead.

Li Pu has already gone to change clothes earlier, and now no one knows where he is. However, based on the stagehands’ gestures, it seems he is ready.

Bai Gaoxing glances around but gives up searching for him, returning his attention to the scene as the actors resume their positions and slip back into character.

Blake removes his foot from the hero’s hand and gestures for the nearby guards to drag him toward the door. From his pocket, he pulls out a small, intricately designed knife, the blade catching the light menacingly.

At that moment, a voice calls out, cutting through the tense atmosphere. “Wait.”

The deep, violin-like voice immediately captures everyone’s attention. A tall, erect figure slowly emerges from the shadows, stunning everyone with his presence.

Adonis is like an iceberg beneath the sea—majestic, solemn, and mysterious. The white gloves and fitted uniform he wears exude both elegance and restraint.
