I Became Famous After I Became a Parrot in the Movie Star's House - Chapter 109
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
The two overlapping voices ring out, and the atmosphere in the office falls into an eerie silence.
Lei Li watches as Li Pu, who has always calmly denied rumors with a simple “no,” falls silent this time, as if he is deep in thought.
There are emotions in his eyes that Lei Li can’t quite understand.
This is bad.
Lei Li coughs lightly, raising her hand to cover her mouth.
She has unwittingly voiced what she has been thinking, completely unaware that Li Pu is in a different frame of mind.
But it’s so obvious—obvious enough that the other person doesn’t realize how anxious she is.
How to put this… not willing to let go is, in fact, a form of possessiveness. Especially when the object is Dabai, and considering all the time they have spent together, it’s not hard to understand.
She is also worried that Li Pu has been caught in confused emotions, unable to find a release, which could eventually develop into another psychological issue.
But how has he arrived at the conclusion that he is being selfish?
Lei Li looks at the man before her, her expression complex, already realizing that his feelings for Dabai run deep and heavy.
After a long while, Li Pu lifts his gaze. “…Is that so?”
Lei Li is a little speechless.
She looks at the man, who seems to have just realized something, and says, “If it’s not for that reason, is there another possibility?”
Another possibility…
Li Pu’s expression grows serious again. After thinking it over, he finds there doesn’t seem to be any other reason.
Lei Li hadn’t expected that, as a manager, she would also have to pay attention to her artist’s emotional issues. She sighs and leans back in her chair, her fingers unconsciously rubbing the lighter. “You could think about it. If Dabai were to leave you one day, could you accept it? Or, if you saw Dabai with someone else, would you be willing to offer your blessings?”
The answer is all negative.
On the contrary, just thinking about this possibility makes his heart feel as though a stone is pressing down on it, heavy and suffocating.
Li Pu’s gaze grows deeper, his brows unconsciously knitting together. He can’t help but recall all the little moments he’s shared with the young man.
Perhaps because it has become so familiar, he subconsciously regards this affection as a habit.
Li Pu’s fingertip rubs repeatedly on his bent finger, but then he stops suddenly.
But he has forgotten to consider what Dabai thinks of him.
Probably just a familiar friend—nothing more, certainly not a proper master… Dabai has even considered leaving.
Lei Li watches as Li Pu’s expression becomes increasingly serious, but it soon calms down again.
She has a bad premonition. “And then? What do you think? Are you not planning to express your feelings to Dabai?”
It isn’t that she’s pushing Li Pu into a relationship. In terms of career, a male star’s peak period often lasts a long time, and his romantic life usually has some impact.
But more than that, she hopes Li Pu can face his own feelings.
Lei Li, who has already accepted the notion of being with someone non-human, is open to such a relationship—fortunately, Li Pu is an actor, and his age is right, so there’s no issue with both love and career.
After a long pause, Li Pu voices his thoughts.
Lei Li is both frustrated and amused. “So you’re planning to just keep it all inside, and keep it a secret from Dabai? Even if he really decides to leave, you’ll just silently send him off?”
That is indeed what he has planned.
Li Pu’s gaze lowers even more. Rather than disrupting the current peaceful life, he is more unwilling to make Dabai feel scared or shocked.
“Right now, this is fine.” He says.
“Oh.” Lei Li chuckles.
She doesn’t think Li Pu can keep this up for long. His eyes and actions can’t lie. Although this man is slow to warm up in life, once he adapts to the situation, when he gets to the “hot” part, it’s terrifying.
So, for Dabai‘s sake, she decides to push him along a little.
“Do you think Dabai won’t like you? But I think…”
Facing the slightly expectant look from Li Pu, Lei Li reluctantly says her opinion, “Dabai might like you too.”
She remembers how the young man unconsciously relied on Li Pu when they first met and feels that Li Pu isn’t entirely without a chance.
“Really?” Li Pu asks, his voice tinged with hope.
But the young man seems too innocent, and Lei Li has a strange feeling that she’s leading Li Pu down a dangerous path, so she quickly corrects herself, “Of course, it might not be love in that sense, but he definitely has a good impression of you.”
Li Pu calms down a lot. “After all, I’m his… owner.”
Lei Li thinks about the natural bond pets have with their owners. She can tell from Li Pu’s expression that he doesn’t dare to cross that line. Perhaps Dabai doesn’t harbor any special feelings for Li Pu yet, but they live together every day, even a stone could develop feelings.
“Don’t overthink it. Even if there’s no opportunity, you can create one,” she says.
And besides…
“Aren’t you two sleeping in the same bed?”
Li Pu looks confused, as if asking what that has to do with anything.
Lei Li: “…” So you want to live as an old married couple first and worry about relationships later? I really don’t understand young people these days.
After chatting a little longer, Lei Li can tell that Li Pu is being cautious and thoughtful. This characteristic usually earns him her praise at work, but now, it only makes her sigh.
But then again, Li Pu has no experience with romance.
Lei Li can’t help but reminisce about how much easier it was for her when she was pursuing her own husband. She sends Li Pu some encouragement: “Good luck, just don’t let someone else steal Dabai away.”
Li Pu is silent.
Soon after, Bai Gaoxing returns.
The young man enters, holding a box of small cakes and says cheerfully, “The cafeteria aunt gave these to me and said I should bring them back for you to try.”
But as soon as he enters, he notices that the atmosphere seems off.
Bai Gaoxing pauses, then cautiously asks, “Am I interrupting?”
“No, we were just finishing up,” Lei Li says with a smile, waving for Bai Gaoxing to sit. “You two eat. I’m on a diet.” After speaking, she winks at Li Pu. “I’ve got something to do. You two finish up and leave after.”
With the sound of her high heels fading away, the office is left with only Li Pu and Bai Gaoxing.
Bai Gaoxing stares at the door for a moment, then turns back to Li Pu. “Want to eat?”
Li Pu nods. “Mmm.”
It feels a little strange.
As Bai Gaoxing opens the packaging and hands Li Pu a fork, he notices the man seems distracted as he starts eating.
“What’s wrong?” Bai Gaoxing asks vaguely, swallowing a bite of cake. Then he suddenly remembers that Li Pu probably doesn’t like sweets, or else he wouldn’t have ended up in such a state while managing the parrot.
“It’s nothing,” comes the expected answer.
Bai Gaoxing observes Li Pu for a while and deduces that it’s probably work stress. He feels overwhelmed just listening to his agent talk about the schedules, let alone Li Pu who has to actually go through with them.
With that in mind, he forks a piece of cake and brings it to Li Pu’s mouth. “Is it something work-related? Don’t stress, just let things happen naturally.”
Li Pu glances at the cake for a moment, then leans in to take a bite, casually holding Bai Gaoxing’s wrist.
Bai Gaoxing widens his eyes slightly, and only when the fork is empty, the warmth of the hand leaves, does he snap back to reality.
It feels… very hot.
Bai Gaoxing can’t help but touch his wrist with his other hand, rubbing it a little, and looks at Li Pu.
The man sits quietly, looking no different than usual, but his ears are faintly red, as if he’s feeling very hot.
It is indeed very hot.
Bai Gaoxing takes another bite of cake. The air conditioning in the agent’s office is set to a warm temperature, and after just a short time inside, he feels a bit sweaty.
He forks another piece of cake for Li Pu, but this time, the man shakes his head. “You eat.”
Not wanting to be polite, Bai Gaoxing turns his back and continues eating, unaware that the man behind him exhales slowly, his eyes becoming more complicated and deep.
Li Pu’s fingers absently curl around the hand he just touched. The warmth still lingers on his fingertips.
He just wants to confirm something… but now it seems unnecessary.
The box of cakes is small, and Bai Gaoxing quickly finishes it. With a satisfied sigh, he turns to Li Pu. “Shall we go?”
…
Filming for the movie doesn’t start until December, and in the meantime, Li Pu has other work. Bai Gaoxing stays home and becomes increasingly idle.
He follows Li Pu to one of his gigs, but he feels dizzy throughout the entire process. He trails behind Mei Youshu everywhere and doesn’t stay in the bird cage for convenience at all. During this time, he gets photographed and quickly becomes a hot topic. His white hair stands out too much, and people can recognize him wherever he goes, which becomes very troublesome. So, he eventually volunteers to stay home and look after the house instead.
But being alone at home… still feels a bit lonely.
Bai Gaoxing curls up on the couch, reminiscing about how, even when he was a parrot, he would spend all day lounging here. Now that he’s human, he still spends all his time lounging here—there’s been no progress at all!
But it doesn’t matter much; there are only a few days left before they go to M country.
Bai Gaoxing thinks about the plans with Li Pu for tonight—they’ve agreed to start reading the script carefully, and it will be in the original version to better understand the characters. This dedication makes him admire Li Pu even more, but it also makes him more excited.
It’s been three or four days since he’s spent a proper evening with Li Pu. The other man is either busy with his work schedule or on his way to a gig, which is exhausting. Fortunately, they don’t live far apart, so Li Pu still comes home every night.
An advertisement for job-seeking pops up on the TV, promoting 886, a job-finding service in different cities. Bai Gaoxing scratches his chin and suddenly thinks, after the movie shoot, shouldn’t he also look for something more stable to do?
Suddenly, he doesn’t feel so bored anymore. He grabs a notebook and begins planning.
He’s already an adult, so his work won’t be limited by age. Plus, with Star Entertainment as his “iron rice bowl,” it seems like he doesn’t have much to worry about.
However, he can’t always be Li Pu’s translator. Li Pu doesn’t have foreign roles in every movie, and if there’s a language he doesn’t know, he won’t be able to help. Not to mention, he doesn’t want to be a translator for other actors.
What about finding another job?
Bai Gaoxing scribbles a question mark in his notebook and counts what he can do.
First… voice acting? He realizes his ability to mimic voices hasn’t disappeared after becoming human. In fact, his vocal range is even wider, it’s improved.
Then… bird caretaker? He can still understand the language of birds! He only discovers this after turning back into a human for a while. Before, he always thought the people downstairs were chatting, but he later realizes it’s the birds talking. Maybe he could help sick birds?
Lastly, his “main job” as a streamer. But that career has been built by Dabai. What could he, as Xiaobai, stream about? Teaching classes? He doesn’t have a certificate, and he’d lose interest after a while. Maybe he should just continue as the parrot main host, showing off and acting cute.
Other than that, there are only ordinary side jobs.
After all, his resume only covers his age up until he graduated from high school. Everything else is still blank.
Bai Gaoxing chews on his pen in thought when he suddenly hears the sound of a door opening. He immediately puts down his notebook and goes to greet him. “You’re back~”
The man outside the door is radiating cold air.
“Is it cold outside?” Bai Gaoxing glances at the balcony, where the frost on the windows has formed into flowers.
“It’s fine.” Li Pu hangs up his coat, revealing his fingers, which are slightly red. Bai Gaoxing looks at them for a moment and goes to pour a cup of hot water from the coffee table.
He has already become quite familiar with this home.
Li Pu watches Bai Gaoxing’s actions, and his gaze softens unconsciously.
They have both already eaten, so they get straight to the point. Each of them grabs a script, preparing to go through it together tonight.
“I only read your parts before, I haven’t had time to read the entire script yet,” Bai Gaoxing says. “It might be a little slow later.”
“Take your time.”
Tonight, the temperature drops, and the cold wind howls outside, but the room is warm.
Bai Gaoxing reads through the original text and its translation while absentmindedly pushing the hair at the back of his neck aside.
His hair is a bit longer than it had been when he was fully human, and it’s getting a little bothersome. However, he’s afraid to cut it, worried it might turn him bald when he turns back into a parrot.
After a few days of unconsciously pushing his hair, it has become a habit. After doing this a few times, Li Pu glances at him, stands up, and goes to open the drawer under the TV cabinet.
Bai Gaoxing looks up in confusion, noticing that Li Pu is bringing a box of hair ties.
“Why do you have these?” Bai Gaoxing blinks. When he opened the cabinet earlier, he thought it was a tea box.
“They were used for tying wigs,” Li Pu explains, adding, “My agent gave them to me.”
“Oh…” Bai Gaoxing nods, then sees Li Pu wave him over to sit next to him.
Bai Gaoxing hesitantly walks over and sits down on the stool in front of him. “You know how to tie hair?”
He had thought the costume team was in charge of wigs.
“A little,” Li Pu replies, his fingers threading through Bai Gaoxing’s white hair.
The texture is smooth like satin, easily slipping through his fingers. Fortunately, Li Pu’s hands are large, and he gathers the hair together.
Bai Gaoxing relaxes, feeling the warmth at the back of his head, letting the man work on his hair.
His fingers move skillfully, and Bai Gaoxing squints his eyes in comfort.
After a while, Bai Gaoxing feels a new small knot at the back of his head and curiously touches it. “How does it look?”
He hurries to the bathroom to check the mirror, then comes back, satisfied. “You’re really good at this. I’ll leave it to you from now on.”
Li Pu looks at him, smiling lightly. “Okay.”
