Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

“Kenji, you know,” Sara starts to speak to me. “You’re the type that gets carried away. Once you get an idea, you don’t stop until you hit something.” She says something unexpected.

I’ve decided not to hold back this time. “Anyone would prefer a clean and organized warehouse to a stinky, dirty one filled with rodents and insects where you can’t even find anything, right?”

“Well, that’s true, but… isn’t this a pretty amazing system?”

“I don’t know. I wonder. Maybe the royal palace’s wine cellar or the church’s library has a similar system.”

“Well, if you’re using the same methods as those places, then it is amazing after all…”

Even though there’s a gap in knowledge between me and the people of this world, there’s no difference in wisdom. If faced with the same needs, people in this world would come up with similar ideas. It’s just that such people aren’t present among the adventurer guild’s nobles and staff.

“Next is improving the sales method. Without this, the Adventurers’ Guild won’t see an increase in profits.”

“But doesn’t that mean we’ll be buying the adventurers’ materials at a low price?”

“To prevent that, we need to come up with a new method.”

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

The method we implement is a variable pricing system for purchased materials. Since it would be a huge task to implement it properly, we set a few basic rules:

  1. Buy scarce items at a higher price and return to normal pricing once the shortage is resolved.
  2. Align the base price with market standards, but allow fluctuations only on a weekly basis.

The first principle is feasible because it’s easy to determine stock levels. Post the materials that are in short supply on the request board and remove them when the stock returns to an appropriate level. The staff just need to check the stock levels in the warehouse daily.

The second principle involves checking market prices to determine the buying price. The buying prices will be posted on the board. Since many adventurers can read numbers, materials will be shown with pictures to reduce the chances of beginners being fooled.

With these simple measures, the work is completed in half a day, and the effects are dramatic. The Adventurers’ Guild’s revenue from purchasing materials rises ever since the system was introduced, improving by 30% compared to the previous month. This is an exceptionally rare occurrence, and Urbano, who led the reform, receives even higher praise from the nobility in the capital, while the front desk staff receive bonuses for the first time.

The purchase price of materials from adventurers also increases, allowing sharp-eyed adventurers to line their pockets.

◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇

“Kenji, your work this time is truly excellent,” Urbano, a guild staff member, praises me. That would have been fine on its own, but in his overconfidence, he adds, “Instead of doing something as boring as changing the order of those requests, it would have been better if you had done this one first.”

Certainly, if considering short-term results, setting a minimum price for purchases and introducing a variable pricing system is effective. However, I firmly believe that the method of ranking requests based on land valuation has a greater impact on transforming the business structure of the Adventurers’ Guild.

Looking at it from another perspective, the success of the variable pricing system strengthens Urbano’s political position and serves as a smokescreen for my plan to introduce structural changes to the Adventurers’ business. So I should be satisfied with that.

This allows us to advance our relationship with the Adventurers’ Guild to the next level. After working for free for so long, it’s time to start making a profit.

As I grin to myself, Sara says, “Kenji, you have a really bad look on your face.”

Uh oh, is it showing on my face?
