Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 112
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
What kind of entity is the Adventurers’ Guild?
Having been in this world for a while, I have already investigated it to some extent, but I conduct a more detailed investigation before this visit. Understanding the other party is fundamental for succeeding in business.
However, in a world without media or internet, where documents are managed primarily by nobles and churches, the information gathered from adventurers is mostly based on imagination and hearsay.
First of all, the Guild Master of the Adventurers’ Guild is not an adventurer. Like other official positions, it is an honorary post that nobles exchange for money, so real authority is held by the Deputy Guild Master. The Deputy Guild Master is chosen from among the local nobility. They also serve as branch managers and are obligated to report the guild’s status to the kingdom.
The Adventurers’ Guild is a venture funded by the kingdom and the nobility as part of their employment measures for marginalized townsfolk and farmers, as well as security measures against monsters. From the perspective of personnel and finances, it can be seen as a direct organization of the kingdom and the nobility.
Although there is no direct command authority between adventurers and the guild, meaning it cannot be mobilized like an army, the primary allegiance of adventurers is to the kingdom, and their secondary allegiance is to the local nobility. This is why adventurers can operate throughout the kingdom.
Due to this background, many of the positions, including the Deputy Guild Master, involve connections to the nobility. It’s similar to the concept of “amakudari” (descending from high positions) in the original world.
From the perspective of those with noble or merchant backgrounds, employment with the Adventurers’ Guild is seen as dealing with rough commoners and is not a highly sought-after position. Naturally, many of those dispatched are neither particularly capable nor highly motivated. Those with education, confidence in their abilities, and connections tend to prefer jobs that are physically and mentally easier, offer perks and rewards, and where they can receive bribes.
On the other hand, the staff handling adventurers mostly come from merchant backgrounds. Since the salary isn’t very good, they tend to switch to other professions after working for a few years.
In summary, the structure of the Adventurers’ Guild consists of nobles at the top, followed by their connections. The field staff, who are poorly paid and only handle window service, retire after a few years. It’s somewhat like an auxiliary organization. I think this while explaining it to Sara.
I’d be curious to see someone who doesn’t slack off within this structure.
◇ ◇ ◇ ◇ ◇
When Sara and I, dressed in merchant-style outfits, visit the Adventurers’ Guild as customers, the novice adventurers begin to whisper to each other.
“Hey, that’s Kenji… They say he’s making a huge profit from Guardian’s Shoes…”
“Seriously? I heard he… attacked a noble’s mansion…”
“I heard he said he wouldn’t tolerate anyone insulting the party and ended up taking all their money…”
“No, I heard from someone that he went alone into the mansion and killed everyone from the servants to the soldiers…”
What’s that? Well, it’s mostly accurate, but what kind of gangster are they talking about?
With a nervous expression, they bring drinks on a tray. I don’t know what rumors are circulating, but are we really feared that much? It’s usual for novices to spread exaggerated rumors.
After a while, a slightly overweight man appears with a few subordinates. A double chin— a feature I haven’t seen in a while in this world. I’ve never seen him or his subordinates during my adventurer days. In other words, these are management types who don’t usually show up in the field.
I start to think about how to deal with these well-fed individuals. It’s been a while since I had a chance to show off my skills.
