Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

“I want to improve our relationship with the town’s Adventurers’ Guild somehow.”

One morning, I say this while drinking tea. Sara starts to speak but stops midway and falls silent.

“What is it? If you have something to say, just say it. That’s not like you.”

When I encourage her, Sara fidgets with her hands and responds in a small voice.

“Well, I do think we should improve our relationship with the Adventurers’ Guild. But I have no idea how to go about it. What do you want to do about the relationship with the guild?”

Lately, I’ve been organizing my ideas while talking with Sara. She provides perspectives on the common sense of this world and the viewpoint of a novice adventurer. She helps balance out my tendency to become overly theoretical on my own. It’s not vanity, but I hope that through talking with me, Sara is also developing a habit of debating and thinking logically.

“Well… First of all, I think it’s no good to expect the Adventurers’ Guild to change, work harder, or take on more burdens.”

The Adventurers’ Guild should become a more efficient and effective organization that better supports adventurers. However, no organization changes just because it’s told to. It’s like expecting someone to become exemplary simply by saying, ‘Be great starting tomorrow.’

In terms of the previous world, the Adventurers’ Guild is like a low-motivation government office. It specializes in handling routine work for adventurers and isn’t suited for innovation. As for its organizational culture, even if you do more work than required, you won’t be evaluated favorably from above. If the results don’t change, it’s natural for people in such an organization to minimize their efforts and take it easy.

“I see. That’s impossible.”

Sara agrees with my opinion without needing complex reasoning. Given her extensive experience with the Adventurers’ Guild, she likely understands this intuitively.

“If I were to suggest something very convenient, the Adventurers’ Guild would have an easier workload, gain a higher reputation from adventurers, and we would benefit as well. I want to create such a system.”

“…Is such a magically convenient thing possible?”

“Well, for smaller things, I do have a few ideas.”

When I mention some simple ideas, Sara reacts with a mix of admiration and exasperation.

“Ha… Do you have a little bird living in your head or something?”

I want to take it as a compliment, but sometimes I don’t quite understand the expressions in this world. Maybe it’s not a compliment after all.

“But to do that, we need to build a relationship where the Adventurers’ Guild at least won’t get in our way. We’ll likely need to do various things right under the guild’s nose. I want them to think we’re not a nuisance that interferes with their work, but rather that we can be useful if used properly.”

“Isn’t that difficult? You’ve completely become a target. Especially that bald guy and his ilk.”

The bald guy Sara mentions tried to sabotage my business and ended up failing on his own. It’s not my fault. He tried to take over the beginner tours I was running with a free service, and as a result, the users turned their backs on him. It was the customers who turned their backs, not me. Well, even so, it’s human nature to want to hold a grudge.

“There’s another way. We could create a job that competes with the Adventurers’ Guild. Bureaucratic organizations can’t change themselves, but they make decisions remarkably quickly when there’s an enemy. Although that bald guy failed, his decision-making was swift. Bureaucratic organizations fear being seen as unnecessary.”

“B-But, if we do that…”

“Yes, we’d face harassment, and at worst, there could be a danger to our lives. Facing off against a powerful organization is risky business. Even with the support of the Sword Fangs Legion, we can’t afford to make the entire Adventurers’ Guild our enemy. So, I’d prefer not to use this approach.”

“Then, let’s not do it! Okay? Please?” Sara desperately tries to stop me.

I also don’t want to use such a method. It’s merely a theoretical possibility discussed during our argument. However, seeing Sara’s urgent expression makes me realize this might be more dangerous than I thought.

“Alright. We’ll drop that method.”

I don’t really want to risk my life that much either. It’s better if we can proceed in a more peaceful way. For now, maybe we should test the waters. It seems my thinking veers towards extremes when I’m not face-to-face with the other party. Even if they refuse, it’s worth having a direct conversation at least once.

I decide to gather information with Sara’s help and arrange an opportunity to discuss things with the Adventurers’ Guild.
