As I sat in the guild, I saw a guild employee approaching me from the corner of my eye. Today was an unlucky day. One troublesome thing after another kept coming my way. This particular employee was a fat, balding man who was basically treated as a window-dresser in the guild. I had heard he was related to some noble family. During my active days, he had proudly ranked second in the “Most Annoying Personal Service Employee” list.

“Kenji, I’d like to have a word with you. Is that okay?”

No, it isn’t, you baldy. I muttered to myself and motioned for him to continue.

“Actually, we’ve received complaints that the Adventurers’ Guild is lacking in support for lower-rank adventurers.”

Of course, you have. Because you guys do nothing.

“So, we’re thinking of implementing the support services you’ve been providing, but within the guild.”

“I see. That sounds like a good idea,” I replied with a full smile.

Well, that’s how it goes. When you’re around someone hardworking, it’s obvious when you’re slacking off. Most likely, he was told to do something by the higher-ups.

“I apologize if this encroaches on your work…” he continued, with a face showing zero remorse.

“Go ahead. It’s good to have more support for adventurers. Best of luck,” I said.

In short, newcomers are a nuisance to those with vested interests. Every time I started a business in this world, I kept running into this wall. In modern terms, it’s called “suppression of private business.” It’s like the post office bullying a transportation company.

The Adventurers’ Guild was annoyed that I was making some money on the side. They probably thought they could handle the kind of business that a former adventurer with no education was running.
