- Chapter 34 - Creating an Overwhelming Reputation
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
How can they establish an overwhelmingly strong reputation that will be recognized by nobles and other towns without even leaving the city? I listed a series of measures to establish the reputation brand of Jilboa.
“From now on, you are the hero of a great epic saga. Minstrels in the town’s taverns and squares will sing songs of fearless warriors who drive away terrifying monsters. The stars are the Sword Fang Legion and you. Hire multiple bards and have them compose songs.”
“Once you have a good story, sell the story to the town’s opera troupe. Have the actors wield swords to slay monsters that threaten innocent people. This is a true story, not fiction about a hero. It will definitely be popular. Well-regarded opera troupes are sometimes invited by nobles as they tour other towns. It’s a win-win situation for everyone”
“Next, ensure your equipment is in order. Although your equipment is already excellent, you want to give it a unified look. Paint it in a way that instantly identifies it as Sword Fang Legion, perhaps black with red trim. It will stand out. Knights mostly wear shiny silver armor with blue surcoats, so make it distinct from that.”
“Also, you want a design that symbolizes the squad. Only knight-level and above can have crests, but who cares? Simplify the design, call it a pattern, not a crest. How about a design of swords and fangs, with red diagonal straight and curved lines intersecting on a black background? Carve that design into shields, armor, weapons, and equipment. Adventurers in town will come to both fear and admire this design.”
“When taking on quests, conduct a marching ceremony and triumphant return ceremony where the townspeople can see it. The first district is preferable, but the second will do. Equip yourselves, and give a speech like a lord motivating his knights. Let the people of the town hear each time what you fight for and what you want to achieve. They’ll start looking forward to the Sword Fang Legion’s departure ceremonies.”
“Write a song for the Sword Fang Legion. Design alone won’t cut it. These songs will embody the spirit of the Sword Fang Legion. Sing them during training, before battles, and after battles. They’ll become the spiritual pillar of the Sword Fang Legion.”
“Captain Jilboa will transform from a mere general swinging a sword into a symbol of a hero who effortlessly slays monsters. Even if you get injured or die, your spirit will remain a part of the Sword Fang Legion.”
After delivering all these points in one breath, I conclude: “That’s my proposal. How much will you pay for it?”
Jilboa and Swiberry were left speechless.
