Helping with Adventurer Party Management - Chapter 214
Dear Readers,
Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.
In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.
Thank you for your patience and support!
Deacon Michelino opposes the idea of assigning adventurers the dirty work of managing the church seals. “Can we expect the adventurers to have the authority or skills to negotiate with merchants and craftsmen? It seems like it would only lead to violence.”
His concerns may be valid, but there is a solution. “Yes. In that case, we need to select someone skilled in negotiation and entrust the task to them.”
Upon hearing this, Deacon Michelino offers an alternative. “As far as this town is concerned, we could also request assistance from the guards of the count’s territory. That’s what we’ve done in other territories.”
Indeed, when considering horizontal expansion to other territories, there are advantages to utilizing the existing system. However, some aspects of Deacon Michelino’s suggestion are difficult to accept.
“But doesn’t that method carry the same concerns as requesting adventurers? Can the guards handle the practical work of managing the church’s seal? Additionally, wouldn’t requesting assistance from the count diminish the funds intended to support the rural areas?”
The more organizations at the top, the less that reaches the grassroots. It would be a waste to establish a system to support rural areas only to have the resources siphoned off by both the church and the nobles.
“Shall we talk to the Sword Fangs Legion and see if they can take this on?” Kiriku suggests, presenting another idea.
I see; while the Sword Fangs Legion may be somewhat rough around the edges in their practical work, they have accumulated experience, so entrusting the task to them makes sense. Unlike the abstract idea of hiring adventurers, there is a sense of security in trusting Jilboa and his legion with the responsibility.
“Indeed, if it’s the Sword Fangs Legion, we could trust them with it. However, even if the system functions well in this case, it might be considered a special circumstance unique to this town and not very useful as a case study for expanding to other territories.”
Deacon Michelino acknowledges this point. “That is certainly a possibility.”
There is no perfect proposal, and at first glance, it may seem like we’re left with only opposing opinions, but that’s not the case. When things become complicated, it’s helpful to break them down and analyze them separately.
“How about we approach it this way? Let’s first assign the task to the Sword Fangs Legion. During that time, we can focus the organization’s strength on refining our internal operations. Once the organization gains some experience and establishes a system, we can then try assigning the task to other adventurers. This way, we can identify any concerns related to hiring adventurers. Finally, we can request assistance from the count and ask the guards for help for a limited period. This will allow us to compare the costs and procedures involved in hiring adventurers versus nobles. If we proceed in the order I’ve just outlined, we can advance both the organization and its operations while comparing which method is better, right?”
As I explain, Deacon Michelino stares at me in surprise. “Somehow, when you lay it out like that, it makes a difficult task seem manageable.”
“It’s challenging when we attempt to tackle everything at once. Each problem is manageable on its own; we just need to break them down to solve them one by one.”
However, those present at the meeting show expressions that seem unsatisfied, as if they feel they have been tricked.
