Chen Weimin walked up to Lu Cheng, giving him a thorough once-over.

“You alright, kid? Didn’t get hurt?”

First things first—Chen Weimin always checked on Lu Cheng personally. The kid had a way of making people sweat over his recklessness.

Lu Cheng shook his head. “I’m fine, Director Chen.”

That line sounded familiar—his old standby.

Meanwhile, Su Qingwu cuffed Hui Ming and handed him over to Xiao Zheng and Xiao Hu, then turned her gaze toward Lu Cheng.

“What the hell’s going on with you? On leave, and you end up in a case?”

“And why act alone? Didn’t even notify the station beforehand?”

Chen Weimin’s mind was full of questions.

Everyone else was stunned, thinking: how the hell did Lu Cheng find the abbot of Qianfo Temple in the middle of committing a crime?

In the dead of night, he didn’t sleep and went mountain-hopping after some stray chick?

Lu Cheng explained. He’d been following his family on temple visits, noticed the abbot acting suspiciously, then staked out the mountain for two days. Eventually, he discovered the basement tunnel and caught the abbot luring a woman desperate for a child… into a drugged assault.

The case itself wasn’t bizarre. But this sort of plot—he’d only seen it on TV or in news reports. In real life, it was rare.

And somehow, Lu Cheng had stumbled right into it.

Did he emit some kind of magnetic field?

Chen Weimin’s eyes went wide. “You mean… you stayed up there for two nights, no evidence at all, just because of your gut feeling?!”

Lin Wenbin, Xiao Zheng, Xiao Hu—everyone stared at Lu Cheng in disbelief.

His instincts were that sharp?

Confidence indeed. No wonder he hadn’t called for backup—if he had, Chen Weimin probably would’ve yelled, “Nonsense!”

When asked why the abbot seemed suspicious, Lu Cheng explained:

“On the surface, he looks kind and serene. But when he watches female devotees, there’s a sinister glint in his eyes. A high-ranking master of Buddhism shouldn’t ever have that expression.”

Everyone knew Lu Cheng had a sharp eye, but no one expected him to camp out two nights just from a glance.

And yet… it had worked. He’d caught the fox’s tail.

Chen Weimin scratched his head. This kid really couldn’t sit still. Which police officer, on their own, would stake out someone for two nights based solely on a look?

The suspect was the temple abbot, no less.

Damn, the kid had imagination!

Might as well have him back on duty—he seemed bored out of his mind.

Hui Ming, listening nearby, was speechless. He finally understood how this young guy had suddenly appeared in the dead of night.

You follow your family to burn incense, just pray quietly—and this kid camps out for two nights? Ridiculous!

And here he was, after nearly two months of no crimes, finally eyeing a young, fair-skinned woman—barely got her panties off—when this kid swoops in.

Plus, when did he ever show that sinister look during the day with female devotees? Pure nonsense!

He’d always been gentle and kind—the kind of acting that deserved an Oscar for Best Performance.

How could there be such a policeman? Suspecting someone without evidence?!

Salt is salty, seawater is salty… I think you’re the one who’s just bored, kid!

Lu Cheng recounted the entire sequence. Su Qingwu’s icy expression softened slightly.

Her cold demeanor wasn’t about his curiosity over adult paraphernalia—it was about him acting alone, without informing the station or the detectives. A sign of distrust.

After hearing him out, Su Qingwu understood why Lu Cheng acted solo.

Stakeouts without evidence? Tell someone else, and they’d just dissuade him from doing something foolish.

He was just bored on leave?

Su Qingwu walked beside Lu Cheng. “So the other evening, when you said you had something to do… that was when you came to Qianfo Temple?”

“Yeah.” Lu Cheng nodded. He had originally planned to pick her up, then have dinner together.

“Next time, don’t keep it from me,” she whispered, before returning to her tasks.

Xiao Zheng and Xiao Hu plugged a USB into a laptop, pulling up its contents.

Hui Ming’s face changed dramatically—the cat was out of the bag.

“Su team! Come see! Major discovery!”

Lu Cheng, Su Qingwu, Chen Weimin, and Lin Wenbin crowded around.

The USB contained neatly organized folders, files named by date.

The earliest file: eight years ago, he had drugged a young girl riding her bike home, taking her into a small grove to assault her.

Some footage was recorded on his phone. Though low-resolution, the process was clear.

He even covered his tracks meticulously afterward—his counter-investigation skills were formidable.

In his first three years, he committed the most crimes, spanning thirteen provinces. Victims ranged from underage girls to married women in their thirties or forties. His crimes had no set time, location, or target, and no unique method. Random drugging cases like these occurred nationwide, so Hui Ming’s crimes were never classified as serial, making them extremely hard to trace.

Opening the videos, the methods were varied, satisfying not only physiological desires but also various perverse fantasies.

The only small mercy: all victims lost consciousness during the assaults. Otherwise, the psychological trauma would have been immense.

Xiao Zheng opened a particularly explicit video featuring a “drilling machine” scenario, shot in close-up.

The men watching blushed crimson.

Lu Cheng immediately covered Su Qingwu’s eyes. See nothing, see nothing!

Chen Weimin coughed awkwardly—he had lived a long life, but even he felt embarrassed.

Laptop closed. The footage would be studied back at the station.

Su Qingwu flicked Lu Cheng’s hand away with her bright eyes, silently scolding him—“Even a cop who has dissected corpses would blanch at this.”

Lu Cheng disagreed—no one should see it. Even he felt his eyes burning from the filth.

The wealthy woman eventually awoke, face filled with terror until she saw the police, then buried her face in her hands and cried.

During questioning, she revealed that her desperation to conceive had led her to many hospitals, but both she and her husband were fine—various treatments failed.

Her husband refused IVF, believing it was her problem. Marital tension rose, and he often stayed away from home.

Desperate, she heard that Qianfo Temple could help, and came.

During the day, she had been deceived by Hui Ming’s lies: a “Buddha-blessed ritual” that could regulate female bodies, proven effective on many women.

Hui Ming promised that anyone skeptical could check for themselves. Who would question it?

Believing him, she followed his instructions into the mountain at night.

But the “blessing” was actually a euphemism—a cover for him to assault her. She never consented, and was drugged.

Hui Ming recorded the assault, later using the footage to intimidate her.

He was skilled at exploiting women’s psychology, learning her weaknesses from day-time conversations.

She feared telling her husband—her life would be ruined.

This method worked several times, and Hui Ming had done it repeatedly under the guise of his abbot identity.

When the other monks learned the truth, their faith crumbled.

How could their abbot be such a monster?

Less than beastly!

They had listened to him chant daily—how humiliating!

And once this news spread, Qianfo Temple would forever bear its disgrace.

Everything was over.
