Lu Cheng and Su Qingwu were both sharp enough to catch on immediately: their respective mothers were just looking for a little show of intimacy between the two of them.

They claimed to be dating, but not once had anyone seen them hold hands.

That couldn’t stand.

Progress was too slow!

These days, everything moved at lightning speed!

He Xueting, ever impatient, repeatedly reminded her son that boys needed to take the initiative, to toughen up a little.

At this pace, when would she ever have grandkids?

Shen Fang felt the same—she wanted to accelerate the “progress bar.” The two youngsters were already busy and didn’t see each other often. How could they even call this a relationship?

So, whenever there was a chance, the mothers would push them along.

Lu Cheng and Su Qingwu wordlessly pulled out their phones and started chatting over WeChat.

Lu Cheng: What do we do? Should we act a little?
Su Qingwu: Act how?
Lu Cheng: I feed you, you feed me.
Su Qingwu: Fine.

Agreement reached—they began.

“Here, have a shrimp dumpling.”
“Here’s a piece of rib for you.”
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”

He Xueting: …
Shen Fang: …

After waiting so long, this was all they got to see? Was this what they called showing affection?

Two lumps of wood pretending to be siblings! Absolutely shameless!

Coincidentally, at a nearby table, a young couple were feeding each other, all cozy and intimate.

Ching! She feeds him a bite, he feeds her a bite—so sweet!

He Xueting and Shen Fang’s eyes lit up.

“Ah! Fang, look at that couple!”
“Oh! Xueting, that’s real sweetness!”

Both mothers exchanged knowing glances—they were clearly signaling to the two wooden blocks across the table.

Lu Cheng and Su Qingwu glanced over and froze.

Good grief, that wasn’t sweet—it was blatant.

The couple was there to eat, but their eyes were glued to each other. If no one was watching, they’d probably be devouring each other.

Two mothers wanted them to witness that?

The two of them exchanged a look.

Lu Cheng: Should we act?
Su Qingwu: How?
Lu Cheng: Copy their moves.
Su Qingwu: …Fine.

So they quietly studied the couple for a few minutes, memorizing each gesture.

Another glance, confirming.

Lu Cheng: Ready?
Su Qingwu nodded.
Lu Cheng: Action!

Lu Cheng picked up his chopsticks and offered a piece of sticky rice sausage to Su Qingwu. She parted her red lips and took a bite.

Then Su Qingwu fed him a piece of turnip cake.

After feeding each other, Lu Cheng gently wiped Su Qingwu’s mouth, and she carefully offered him a sip of water.

Then…

What next? Ah!

Su Qingwu set down her cup, leaned slightly closer, and rested her head on Lu Cheng’s shoulder.

Lu Cheng, with a gentle expression, lifted his hand and placed it softly on her shoulder.

Perfect!

He Xueting and Shen Fang stared in disbelief.

What on earth was this? Their acting was so awkward it was painfully embarrassing.

First, sibling vibes; now, a full-on melodrama?

Two idiots! All they knew was solving cases and catching criminals—they had no clue how to date!

No hope for them.

Fine. Let them do what they want.

Back to normal eating.

Lu Cheng and Su Qingwu exchanged a secret look, both silently thinking they’d passed the test.

Lunch finished, Su Qingwu needed to head back to the station.

He Xueting told Lu Cheng to drive her.

“Mom, she can drive herself. What about her car?”
Shen Fang shook her head. “I’ll take it. We’re going somewhere else this afternoon anyway.”
Su Qingwu said helplessly, “But how will I get home after work?”
Shen Fang looked at her like she was an idiot. “Seriously? Lu Cheng will pick you up!”

Lu Cheng: “Huh?”
He Xueting gave him a death glare. “You won’t go pick her up?”
Lu Cheng reacted quickly. “I’ll go. Of course, I’ll go.”

Satisfied, the mothers nodded.

Lu Cheng drove Su Qingwu in the Mercedes A-Class to the precinct and parked.

It was only 11:30—still before official working hours.

“Do you want to rest in the car a bit?”
Su Qingwu shook her head. “Too much work waiting for me. I’ll go up and start.”
“I can see you’re a little tired. Nap a bit—it’s the key to efficiency. If you’re sluggish, work suffers.”

Su Qingwu thought for a moment and nodded.

She unbuckled her seatbelt, reclined the seat. The car was parked under a shady tree with a breeze blowing through slightly open windows—perfect for a nap.

Lu Cheng adjusted his seat, inhaled the faint fragrance beside him, and listened to her soft, even breathing. He closed his eyes as well.

They both had a blissful nap.

When they woke, Su Qingwu returned to work, and Lu Cheng went to meet He Xueting and Shen Fang.

The two mothers had abandoned shopping plans and were heading to Qianfo Temple to burn incense.

Lu Cheng parked at the outdoor lot near the temple. He Xueting and Shen Fang were already waiting.

“Why did it take so long?”
“Oh, I took a nap with her in the car,” Lu Cheng said casually, tossing the keys in his pocket.

Ah?!

He Xueting and Shen Fang froze. Slept in the car with her?

In broad daylight?

Why the rush?

Lu Cheng noticed their shocked expressions. Realizing it sounded misleading, he quickly clarified:

“No, Mom, Aunt Shen, what you’re thinking… we just napped! We just rested a bit in the car!”

He Xueting rolled her eyes. “Hmph. We didn’t think anything weird. With your courage, you wouldn’t dare do anything anyway.”

“Let’s go! Fang, let’s burn incense!”

Lu Cheng had nothing to say. He’d been underestimated…

Qianfo Temple was bustling with worshippers, even on a weekday. Not as crowded as weekends, but still plenty of people.

Lu Cheng didn’t believe in this stuff. If incense really worked, he thought, the temple gates would be impassable. He glanced up at the ancient roof, noting the lightning rods. Even Buddha can’t save people, huh?

“Lu Cheng, what are you waiting for? Follow us,” He Xueting called from the steps.

Inside, square and round incense burners awaited. Square for burning incense, round for touching blessings—ancient symbolism of Heaven.

A table with a silk cloth held a fortune-drawing box.

He Xueting urged Lu Cheng to draw a fortune.

“For what?” he asked.
Shen Fang grinned. “What else? Of course, a child-seeking fortune!”

Lu Cheng: …

Good grief. He hadn’t even held Su Qingwu’s hand yet, and now they were asking for a baby fortune?!

He really didn’t want to, and he didn’t believe in it.

But he glanced at He Xueting squinting at him and decided to go along.

He Xueting didn’t interfere with most of Lu Cheng’s life choices, even his dangerous job as a police officer—but when it came to marriage and children, she had to manage it.

He Xueting had long concluded that her son was terrible at dating. So she had to push him along before he turned thirty.

Shen Fang felt the same.

“Son, at least draw a good fortune, be sincere!”

After that, both mothers went to burn incense.

Lu Cheng reluctantly drew a fortune and opened it. He was stunned.

It really was the best fortune for children.

Heavenly joy arrives in abundance; why ask after it?
Ancestral blessings flow endlessly; the Qilin appears under the full moon.

Most of it he didn’t understand, but he got the words Qilin. Qilin delivers children—he knew that.

Lu Cheng was impressed. He hadn’t even been serious in drawing the lot, yet it came out perfect.

Too fake!

He wondered if all the lots were rigged to be good. Tried again? Fifty yuan per draw—too expensive.

He Xueting said the temple abbot must interpret the fortune for it to be effective. So Lu Cheng went to find the abbot.

As he stepped into the temple, his system skill [Flycatcher] triggered.

A fly, glowing purple, circled twice in the air and landed on the abbot.
