From the innkeeper, Wu Hao learned about five potential candidates who seemed suitable. Although age differences don’t mean much in the cultivation world, his son Rulong was still young, and Wu Hao wanted him to marry someone he genuinely liked. He hoped that after marriage, his son would bless him with many grandchildren.

As Rulong’s father, Wu Hao knew his son’s character well: kind, upright, and a truly good person. Rulong had also inherited the looks of both himself and Su Qiaoran, making him undeniably handsome even among cultivators.

The innkeeper recommended the eldest daughters of the four Golden Core peak families in Sunset City and the eldest daughter of the City Lord’s Mansion. However, as Wu Hao observed them, he quickly eliminated the daughters of the Four Great Families. His reason was that their character was lacking. Wu Hao disguised himself as a pitiful beggar and approached the four daughters for alms, but they surprisingly had their servants chase him away.

The Four Great Families didn’t realize that this would cost them the chance of achieving immortality.

This left only the eldest daughter of the City Lord’s Mansion as a candidate. From the information Wu Hao gathered, her name was Xu Qingxue, and like his son, she was eighteen years old. However, her talent was slightly inferior, with only a mid-grade Spiritual Root, which meant she was only at the initial Foundation Establishment stage.

Wu Hao soon mapped out Xu Qingxue’s daily routes in Sunset City and was pleasantly surprised to learn that her reputation was stellar. Everyone praised her as a great person, even calling her Sunset City’s most beautiful woman.

But what others said was merely for reference; Wu Hao preferred to verify things himself. When he lay on the road disguised as a beggar, Miss Xu Qingxue instructed her maid to take him to a doctor. This act confirmed and solidified his decision to have Xu Qingxue as his daughter-in-law.

Having made all the arrangements, Wu Hao took Xu Qingxue’s portrait to his son, Wu Rulong, and asked, “Son, this is the person I’ve considered for you. Do you like her?”

Initially, Wu Hao thought Rulong would be shy upon seeing Xu Qingxue’s portrait, but to his surprise, Rulong’s expression changed subtly, showing hesitation.

Wu Hao immediately noticed something amiss, and with a furrowed brow, he questioned directly, “Son, it looks like you know her?”

“Yes, I met her a while back.”

Wu Rulong didn’t hide the fact and explained how he had recently encountered Xu Qingxue on the road and got acquainted with her.

Wu Hao was delighted upon hearing this. It seemed that Xu Qingxue did not dislike his son, and these days, not disliking meant liking. This indicated that there was a good chance this marriage could proceed successfully.

So when his father told him to pursue Xu Qingxue, Wu Rulong didn’t object. With Wu Hao, a formidable strategist, assisting him, Wu Rulong quickly won over Xu Qingxue.

Now, half a month had passed. Upon hearing that Xu Qingxue had accepted his son’s confession, Wu Hao immediately stood up and said, “Let’s go to the City Lord’s Mansion and propose marriage!”

“Yes, Father!” Wu Rulong’s tone was extremely excited at his father’s words. After all, the prospect of marrying the girl he liked couldn’t help but thrill him.

Soon, led by Wu Hao, the two of them arrived in front of the City Lord’s Mansion, where two guards at the peak of the Qi Refinement stage stood watching. They stopped them upon seeing Wu Hao and Wu Rulong.

“Halt, what business do you two have with the City Lord’s Mansion?”

“Please let the City Lord know; we have an important matter to discuss,” Wu Hao said with a warm smile. Asking for a bride’s hand in marriage could indeed be considered an important matter.

The two guards glanced at Wu Hao and Wu Rulong, sensing an extraordinary bearing about them, so they didn’t obstruct them further and said, “Please wait here while I inform the City Lord.”

One of the guards turned and left, while Wu Hao and Wu Rulong waited without urgency. Soon, the guard returned and said, “Please, come in. The City Lord is waiting for you in the main hall.”

“Thank you,” Wu Hao replied politely and proceeded inside, with Wu Rulong quickly following.

When they arrived in the main hall of the City Lord’s Mansion, they saw a stern-faced middle-aged man sitting in the main seat, none other than Xu An, the City Lord of Sunset City. Xu An’s expression held a hint of curiosity, wondering who had come to visit him.

The moment Xu An saw Wu Hao, his expression grew serious. As a Nascent Soul early-stage cultivator, he couldn’t discern the cultivation level of the person before him, indicating that this was indeed a formidable figure.

Thanks to the power of the Heavenly Emperor’s Myriad Dao Sutra, unless someone’s cultivation was more than two major realms higher than Wu Hao’s, they couldn’t determine his cultivation level.

“Daoist friend, may I ask how to address you?”

After recognizing Wu Hao’s extraordinary presence, Xu An stood up with a smile and looked at Wu Hao to inquire. Wu Hao waved his hand and then spoke.

“You can simply call me Old Wu, Daoist friend.”

“So it’s Daoist Wu; I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Xu An feigned enlightenment, pretending to be familiar with Wu Hao’s reputation, though he had never actually heard of him. But Wu Hao didn’t expose the pretense, as he was here to propose marriage for his son.

Wu Hao quickly got to the point and mentioned that he had come to arrange a marriage proposal. Upon hearing this, Xu An’s expression darkened noticeably.

“Daoist Wu, if you’re here to propose marriage, I’m afraid I can’t agree immediately. I will respect my daughter’s choice. If she likes him, that’s fine, but if she doesn’t, I won’t force her.”

“Hahaha, Old Xu, you can be at ease on that front. My son Rulong is already with your daughter Qingxue; you only need to call Qingxue over to confirm.”

Wu Hao chuckled as he spoke. Hearing this, Xu An looked skeptical but still called his daughter over.

Unexpectedly, when Xu Qingxue arrived and saw Wu Hao, her expression became shy. How could Xu An not understand now? Clearly, his daughter had a relationship with the man’s son.

Just when Xu An intended to say something, Wu Hao spoke and directly took out a Storage Ring, saying, “Old Xu, don’t say I’m stingy. This is the betrothal gift from my side.”

Curious about how much Wu Hao could offer, Xu An was silent after seeing the contents, then stood up with a smile.

“Old Wu, there’s nothing more to say. Let the children decide for themselves.”

Xu An had no room to refuse. In terms of strength, he felt he was not likely a match for Wu Hao. Financially, Wu Hao had already presented one hundred Supreme Spirit Stones as a dowry.

Considering those were Supreme Spirit Stones, Xu An thought that even ten stones were more than he could afford. Since Wu Hao was so sincere, how could he possibly refuse?

Of course, the most important thing was that the two children were fond of each other; otherwise, Xu An might not have agreed.

Although he didn’t know much about Wu Hao’s family’s background, the ability to offer a hundred Supreme Spirit Stones as a dowry suggested they weren’t ordinary. Marrying his daughter to Wu Rulong certainly wouldn’t be to her disadvantage.

As for why he gave Xu An one hundred Supreme Spirit Stones as a betrothal gift, Wu Hao had fully considered the reasons behind it. After all, Xu An is the father of his daughter-in-law, Xu Qingxue. If resources are inadequate, Xu An might reach the end of his lifespan without advancing in cultivation. At that point, Xu Qingxue would already be part of the Wu family, and if Xu An were to pass away, Xu Qingxue would undoubtedly be heartbroken. Hence, Wu Hao generously offered one hundred Supreme Spirit Stones to help Xu An improve his cultivation.

For Wu Hao, one hundred Supreme Spirit Stones were practically nothing at that moment. He had no personal use for them. Wu Rulong, after ten years of cultivation, had used less than fifty Supreme Spirit Stones. Thus, it seemed better to use one hundred as a dowry for Xu An.

Wu Hao had some leads on acquiring resources later on, but he still needed to wait for his son to spare some time. Only when the Wu family grew stronger could they better execute these plans.

Subsequently, the two families quickly agreed on the children’s wedding date. Since Wu Hao was rather eager, they promptly decided on the wedding to take place in half a month.

News of the City Lord’s Mansion’s eldest daughter’s wedding rapidly spread throughout Sunset City, shocking everyone. In the eyes of cultivators in Sunset City, Xu Qingxue was like a Lofty Flower—admired but beyond reach. Many were curious about who managed to win over Xu Qingxue.

Even the Four Great Families attempted to cause trouble, but Wu Hao decisively quelled them. As this was a significant matter in his son’s life, Wu Hao wouldn’t tolerate any mistakes.

Despite the Four Great Families having Golden Core stage experts at the helm, they were no match for Wu Hao. They could only blame their cultivation techniques for being too basic and their foundations too weak.

That day came to be known as the doomsday for the Four Great Families.
