Ting Wan
Gender: Female
Height: 168cm
Age: 27 years old
Residence: City S
Education: Unknown
Mother: Yang Ting
Father: Unknown
Occupation: Mama-san at the hostess club ‘kilig’
Past Experiences: …

In just a few lines, almost the entirety of Ting Wan’s life was summarized. The tears on her cheeks stung, and her gaze dimmed as her memories were dragged into endless darkness.

“You must have put in a lot of effort to find all this information. But what you found, obtained through someone else’s investigation, is not the same as what I would have told you, right?” Ting Wan’s voice was calm as she released her grip on Chi Jianyue’s hand, sinking back into the sofa. Neither sad nor happy, she continued, “My mother… was a despised prost❤tute. As for my biological father, he could have been any client who didn’t use protection. With so many possibilities, how could I possibly know who it was?”

“Please… don’t say anymore… I beg you… don’t say anymore…”

No matter how Chi Jianyue pleaded, the woman’s indifferent voice continued, as if she were recounting an unrelated story.

From the moment Ting Wan could remember, she had been wandering around with Yang Ting. She was the daughter born after ten months of Yang Ting’s arduous pregnancy, but Yang Ting never allowed her to call herself “mother” or used any terms related to motherhood, as it would affect her work with clients.

Who knows why Yang Ting had decided to give birth to her in the first place. Maybe she couldn’t have an abortion by the time she found out, or maybe she didn’t have the money to go to an underground clinic. Perhaps some man at the time, thinking she was his child, made a promise and convinced her to keep the baby. In any case, Ting Wan was a child who should never have been born.

After all, what prost❤tute would bring a child to work?

Ting Wan was also the name given to her by that unfortunate man. After providing Yang Ting with a relatively stable life, that nameless man heartlessly abandoned her, disappearing without a trace.

The once relatively normal woman completely lost her mind. Her few remnants of dignity and shame seemed to vanish along with the man’s departure. No matter how much money was offered, she didn’t discriminate against any kind of client. The cramped rental apartment had no distinction between living room and bedroom. Drawing a curtain, Ting Wan grew up on this side of the curtain, listening to the heavy panting, the insults of men, and the moans of women on the other side.

Yang Ting was a woman who had nothing but her beauty. It was her looks that allowed her to sustain her business and raise Ting Wan. Although she would often lash out at Ting Wan, blaming her for the hardships of life and the departure of men, Ting Wan was grateful to Yang Ting for giving her a chance to survive, at least not abandoning her.

Before going to sleep, enduring the pain from each beating, Ting Wan would always wonder if she was truly Yang Ting’s biological daughter. But as she grew older, the increasing resemblance between them was the best proof.

She inherited Yang Ting’s beauty, and even the curtain was no longer enough to shield her from the lustful eyes of men. Unable to afford expensive skincare products, the fine lines at the corners of Yang Ting’s eyes became more prominent, a sign of her aging. The clients redirected their attention towards Ting Wan, and in those moments, Yang Ting would insult Ting Wan with a jealous tone.

Ting Wan wasn’t sure if it was a way for Yang Ting to protect herself.

They lived in a rundown alley in the outskirts of the city, in a cheap rental house that lacked any sense of security. The police didn’t bother with this area, and it was precisely why Yang Ting chose to live there. It was also due to this reason that Ting Wan almost fell victim to a frequent client’s attempted r❤pe.

As an uneducated woman, the only thing she needed to learn was how to please men in bed, to fake the appearance of pleasure. But once the facade was stripped away, she became a true shrew, smashing everything in the house and holding a kitchen knife to the man’s throat. Ting Wan, along with everyone else, believed she would really follow through and harm him. The man was so scared that even if he wanted to continue, he couldn’t.

However, Ting Wan’s calm gaze held a hint of confusion. She didn’t understand why Yang Ting suddenly went mad when it was something women did every day.

Her values had been shaped in the wrong direction over the years of following Yang Ting’s lifestyle. Yang Ting seemed to have realized this, and after a few days of grumbling, she moved them to City N.

Ting Wan started calling a strange man her father, while Yang Ting settled down and stopped engaging in that line of work, becoming a devoted housewife.

At first, their father treated them well. Their living conditions and everything improved hundreds of times compared to before. Ting Wan completed her compulsory education in City N and started to understand shame and embarrassment, realizing that her past was far from honorable. She suddenly found herself in a new world, where she didn’t fit in with the people around her. Her personality became more withdrawn, but at least it was better than before.

The turning point in their seemingly normal lives began when Yang Ting suddenly developed a fever and started vomiting. After getting the test results from the hospital, it was confirmed that she had contracted HIV.

She kept it a secret, only Ting Wan knew, but eventually, the man found out. It was like a glass bottle shattering on the ground, breaking apart the facade of a peaceful life they had been pretending to live. The man couldn’t accept it and turned to alcohol, but it couldn’t change the fact that he had been infected. He had been the one providing for them, never expecting to be dragged into the depths of hell by the ants of society from the lower class. He felt regret, resentment, and most of his anger was directed towards Yang Ting. She, feeling guilty, allowed him to beat and abuse her. There was not a single intact patch of skin on her body. Realizing that such actions were meaningless for someone whose life was already like muddy water, with little time left, his twisted hatred shifted towards Ting Wan.

Their home reeked of alcohol, with beer bottles scattered all over the living room. It was Ting Wan’s birthday that day, but no one remembered. On her way home from work, she bought a small cake, hiding it behind her back. As usual, when she opened the door, she was met with the repetitive sound of yelling, but this time, Yang Ting saw her and immediately started cursing, “You sl❤t! You dare to come back! What time is it? You should just get out and never come back!”

Ting Wan stood frozen in place, her hand holding the cake hidden behind her back, her lashes lowered, and she didn’t utter a word.

The man, in his drunken state, stopped his actions, dropped the beer bottle, and looked up at her, seeing her unusual, smiling expression. “Ting Wan, you’re back.”

“What’s this? Oh, a cake. Today is Ting Wan’s birthday, and her own mother doesn’t even remember?” he said, taking the cake and placing candles on it. “How old are you this year?”

“Twenty-one,” Ting Wan replied softly. She caught a glimpse of Yang Ting lying on the floor, looking dazed. When their eyes met, a flicker of movement appeared on her lifeless face, as if she was trying to convey something to her.

Unfortunately, Ting Wan didn’t understand. She was too slow to catch on, and if she had been more alert, she would have noticed that something was wrong from the moment she opened the door.
