Not only did she miss breakfast this time, but she also slept through lunch. Chi Jianyue slept until the afternoon, only to be awakened by Ting Wan before she left to cook. The girl still nestled in the blankets, murmuring a few incomprehensible sounds without moving.

The bedsheets and duvet hadn’t been changed, and considering Chi Jianyue’s cleanliness, she wouldn’t be comfortable sleeping in such an environment. She had truly been through a rough time. Ting Wan approached, intending to persuade her to go back to her own room to sleep, but then she noticed the unnatural flush on the girl’s cheeks. Sensing something was off, Ting Wan reached out and compared the temperatures of their foreheads, realizing that Chi Jianyue felt warm.

“Jianyue, wake up. You seem to have a fever. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?”

Chi Jianyue’s head felt heavy, her cheeks were hot, but her body felt cold. She could only keep wrapping herself tightly in the blanket, burying her chin inside. She drowsily opened her eyes, and Ting Wan brought in a thermometer with her slightly cool hand, startling Chi Jianyue.

During the waiting period, Ting Wan had already called Lán Líng to take a sick leave. The result came back—38 degrees. She was truly sick.

A hint of regret flashed in Ting Wan’s eyes. It was indeed her own fault. She shouldn’t have been so careless in this weather. There was a well-stocked medicine cabinet at home, and she fetched some fever-reducing medicine and gently fed it to Chi Jianyue, saying, “If the fever doesn’t go down later, we’ll go to the hospital.”

As soon as she heard the word “hospital,” Chi Jianyue’s eyebrows furrowed instantly. “It’s just 38 degrees. It’s not a high fever. There’s no need to go to the hospital.”

Her resistance was written all over her face. Ting Wan understood. “Is Jianyue afraid of going to the hospital or afraid of getting a shot?”

“I’m not afraid. I just don’t like…” Chi Jianyue’s voice trailed off, her confidence wavered. Looking at the woman’s teasing eyes, she suddenly realized that she was the one who caused this situation. She couldn’t help but express her dissatisfaction. “It’s all your fault.”

Ting Wan admitted quite calmly this time. “Hmm, it’s my fault. I’m sorry.”

Her apology came too quickly, making Chi Jianyue feel like she had been shortchanged. “No, you have to compensate me with actions.”

Ting Wan raised an eyebrow gently, her smile tender. “How does Jianyue want to be compensated?”

Chi Jianyue’s brain was slow due to the fever, and she understood that it wasn’t the best time to think. “Um… just remember, I’ll tell you when I figure it out.”

The fever-reducing medicine took effect, causing her eyelids to grow heavy and her long lashes drooped down. In her drowsy state, she felt her body being lifted and soon found herself lying on a bed that was even drier and tidier. Her forehead was covered with something cold, and she knew exactly who was behind all of this. The air around her carried the subtle fragrance of Ting Wan.

Perhaps it was because she hadn’t been sick for a long time, but she felt unusually fragile. Within Ting Wan’s gentle movements, an inexplicable desire to cry welled up inside her. Gently wiping away the corners of her closed eyes, Ting Wan murmured to herself, “Why are you crying again…? You crybaby.”

Ting Wan sat by her side the whole time, occasionally wiping away her sweat and checking her temperature. Outside the window, the sky grew darker and eventually disappeared into darkness. It was only when the temperature in her palm returned to normal and her temperature dropped to 37 degrees after another measurement that Ting Wan finally felt relieved.

Chi Jianyue felt a layer of sweat sticking to her body and Ting Wan helped her change clothes, lifting her arms and moving her legs in a very cooperative manner, whether she was awake or asleep, it was hard to tell from her subconscious movements.

“Ting Wan…” the girl suddenly spoke, her voice muffled.

“Are you awake? Are you still feeling dizzy?” Not receiving a response, Ting Wan turned to look and saw that Chi Jianyue’s eyes were closed. She hadn’t actually woken up, but was speaking in a dream-like state. “If only you could always be this good…”

Ting Wan, the one who was gentle and wouldn’t make her sad.

Ting Wan chuckled, using her fingers to untangle the sticky strands of hair on the side of Chi Jianyue’s face. “Am I not good enough on ordinary days?”

Silence followed.

“As long as Jianyue listens to me, I can be like this forever.”

Chi Jianyue slept soundly, so it was unclear if she heard those words or not.
