Chi Jianyue buried half of her face in the blanket, while Ting Wan half-closed the door and bid her goodnight before turning off the lights.
The room was clean and simple, and the bedding seemed freshly laid. It was evident that nobody usually lived here, yet everywhere Chi Jianyue turned, she could feel Ting Wan’s presence. She closed her eyes, taking a deep sniff of the gentle fragrance lingering on the sheets, feeling her body relax as her consciousness quickly slipped into darkness.
Living together with Ting Wan started off wonderfully. The next day, Ting Wan took her to the supermarket and bought some household items. As they passed by the section with utensils, Chi Jianyue stopped in her tracks.
“Does Ting Wan cook for herself at home?” she asked curiously.
“Mhmm.” Ting Wan carefully examined a cat-shaped plate she picked up from the shelf, complete with matching bowls and chopsticks. Something seemed to have crossed her mind, and with a slight curvature of her eyes, she turned to Chi Jianyue and asked, “How about you use this?”
As she asked, she placed the entire set of utensils into the shopping cart.
“Is it for me?” Chi Jianyue looked at the cat pattern on the plate, its edges even featuring two protruding ears. Although she could roughly guess Ting Wan’s mischievous intentions, she didn’t reject the idea. Instead, a hint of sweetness welled up inside her, her voice becoming slightly more melodic. “So Ting Wan will cook for me?”
The woman raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised by the redundant question of why she would ask something she already knew. “Of course,” she replied.
While Chi Jianyue felt happy, there was also a hint of unease that arose from the ease with which she obtained happiness. She asked again, “What do I need to do?”
“You don’t need to do anything,” Ting Wan replied with the same answer.
Nothing needed to be done, just be there for Ting Wan when she needed her. Living together and enjoying the food Ting Wan cooked for her every day should have been incredibly relaxing and perfect conditions.
However, Chi Jianyue soon sensed that something was amiss.
During the two long months of summer vacation, under normal circumstances, she would either be traveling far and wide, meeting up with her best friends for shopping trips, or interning at her family’s company. She would always have something to do, unlike now, where she spent every day at Ting Wan’s home, waiting for the owner of the house to return.
Moving into Ting Wan’s house seemed to disrupt all her plans. She feared that if she went out, she would miss the opportunity to spend time with Ting Wan. In reality, Ting Wan hadn’t changed at all, continuing her usual routine of work, sleep, and waking up early to make breakfast for Chi Jianyue before going back to sleep. She would even prepare dinner in advance so that it could be easily heated up in the microwave. Despite all this, Chi Jianyue couldn’t help but feel like she had become a pet being taken care of by Ting Wan. She would unconsciously perk up her ears at any sound coming from the door, eagerly anticipating Ting Wan’s return.
She knew the operating hours of ‘kilig,’ but she still held onto a small glimmer of hope for unlikely events. What if? What if Ting Wan didn’t have to leave so early today? What if Ting Wan finished work early?
But so far, none of these probabilities had actually occurred.
The most unbearable part was that Ting Wan didn’t like her going to ‘kilig.’ She couldn’t even accompany Ting Wan to work there.
The flowers that should have bloomed vibrantly were trapped in an invisible prison, gradually withering day by day.
Ting Wan’s life remained unchanged. Having Chi Jianyue around just meant cooking for one more person, and it didn’t really affect Ojou-sama’s insatiable appetite for cat food.
Ting Wan invested more energy in taking care of the flowers in front of the ‘kilig’ entrance. She recently had someone install a new pest control device, and it seemed to be working well. The feedback from customers indicated a significant reduction in mosquitoes and insects.
The midday sun was scorching, and no matter how carefully she tended to them, the flowers would still wilt after enduring such harsh conditions. Even watering them couldn’t restore the petals to their most beautiful state. Ting Wan contemplated this and decided to custom order a few sun umbrellas. They could be set up during the day at the entrance and then stored away at night, without affecting business. After completing these arrangements, Ting Wan’s lips curled into her signature smile.
Jianyue: I’m going out to have dinner with friends.
Since they started living together, they exchanged contact information. However, they didn’t have many opportunities to chat. When Ting Wan received the message from Chi Jianyue, it felt like a report. Did she really need to inform her about such trivial matters? Ting Wan thought carefully and was surprised to realize that, based on this, Chi Jianyue hadn’t left the house in the past half month since moving in.
Ojou-sama has more patience than she imagined.
…
After half a month, Zhuang Xiao finally saw Chi Jianyue again, and she had a lot of questions she wanted to ask. The bombardment of vague answers she received online left her curious. Whenever she tried to make plans with Chi Jianyue, she always claimed to be busy. They had grown up together, attended the same school, and Zhuang Xiao even felt like this was the longest they had gone without seeing each other.
“What happened that night after we had drinks? You disappeared the next day, and there was no one at home. Where have you been staying all this time?”
The questions kept popping up like scattered beans, and Chi Jianyue rested her chin on her arm, feeling listless.
Zhuang Xiao found Chi Jianyue’s downcast appearance highly unusual. Although Chi Jianyue portrayed herself as aloof and somewhat distant, she was completely different with close friends. Even when Ojou-sama was unhappy, she always found a way to vent. It was the first time Zhuang Xiao had seen her in such a lackluster state, like a frost-bitten eggplant, lacking enthusiasm.
“If you’re not going to talk when you invite me out, then I’ll leave. I still have to do my nails later.” After waiting for what felt like forever without a response, Zhuang Xiao stood up, pretending to leave.
“I’ve been staying at Ting Wan’s house,” Chi Jianyue said softly, maintaining her position with her chin resting on her arm.
“Huh?” Zhuang Xiao sat back down, unable to believe what she had just heard. “Didn’t you say you would never go see her again?”
Chi Jianyue averted her gaze from the window, hanging her head silently.
Zhuang Xiao knew that this was a sign of guilt. She sighed and asked, holding her patience, “So, what exactly happened?”
And so, Chi Jianyue slowly revealed everything that happened after she got drunk and went to ‘kilig,’ of course omitting the absurd encounter. She spoke slowly, pausing a few times during the process. Without surprise, Zhuang Xiao saw her childhood friend grit her teeth and display a dangerous expression that was both smiling and not.
“You really outdid yourself, Chi Jianyue. You’ve truly degraded yourself,” Zhuang Xiao suppressed her anger, refraining from erupting in a string of curses. Who would have thought that the beloved Miss Chi, pampered and adored by many, would do something so mindless as to become someone’s pet?
“Do you not find it strange that Ting Wan has this particular fetish?” Zhuang Xiao couldn’t help but ponder the dynamics between a pet and its owner. She had heard whispers of B&DS&M, but it was a realm she had never explored personally. Her instincts recoiled at the thought of either controlling or being controlled by someone. It was an eerie concept that sent shivers down her spine.
Chi Jianyue sensed that Zhuang Xiao was veering off track. She, too, had entertained such thoughts initially, but…
“She hasn’t done anything to me,” Chi Jianyue replied. In fact, she even wished that Ting Wan would do something to her…
Zhuang Xiao’s expression softened slightly upon hearing this, but she still issued a warning. “You should be aware that this is not a healthy relationship. It’s better to end it sooner rather than later and spare yourself some pain. You can’t outmaneuver that woman.”
Chi Jianyue fluttered her eyelashes like wings, her mind racing. “I know,” she responded. She was more aware than anyone of the allure and danger Ting Wan possessed.
“I just want to understand her desires,”
