Chapter 77

Hearing Yan Jingchuan’s words, Chen Shu smiled. Alright, I’ll come down to get you.

After hanging up, he turned to pick up his jacket from the bed. Suddenly feeling thirsty, he drank some water before continuing toward the door.

The hallway was unusually quiet.

After taking two steps, Chen Shu noticed the room service attendant he’d encountered earlier was still on this floor.

Seeing him, the attendant pressed down on his hat and stepped aside with lowered head.

Chen Shu’s brow twitched slightly as he gave the man another glance.

Late at night, there shouldn’t be many people requiring room service.

The other person just kept his head down without uttering a word.

Chen Shu soon passed by him and withdrew his gaze, not pursuing the matter further.

Under the brim of the hat, eyes followed Chen Shu into the elevator before pulling out a phone to make a call.

He’s coming downstairs. Then he reported, He drank it, twice. Judging by the situation, you might be able to take him directly when he reaches the lobby, saving me the trouble.

After speaking, he looked toward the elevator direction.

Soon, the number on the screen jumped to 1.

Chen Shu emerged from the elevator and ran into Yan Jingchuan who was approaching from the lobby.

Woof! Wangcai dashed forward, only to be pulled back mid-air by the leash to Yan Jingchuan’s side. After landing, he struggled and jumped around excitedly until Chen Shu approached, then pounced straight at him.

Chen Shu took the dog leash and patted him.

Wangcai rubbed against his hand continuously, panting excitedly with his mouth open, showing no signs of loss of appetite.

Chen Shu looked at Yan Jingchuan.

Yan Jingchuan appeared calm on the surface. He’s not like this at home.

Just then, Zhang Shi returned from completing procedures at the front desk, carrying a dog crate as he followed the two upstairs.

Chen Shu had no luggage and didn’t return to the room prepared for him by the program crew.

After entering the room, Yan Jingchuan asked, Has Li Sheng come to see you?

No. Chen Shu put down the unused jacket, his brow slightly furrowed.

Was it because of the high physical exertion from the competitive program? After drinking water earlier, he felt even more thirsty now.

Yan Jingchuan noticed his expression. What’s wrong?

Chen Shu said, What’s the temperature setting for the air conditioning here? Why is it so hot.

Hot? Yan Jingchuan looked at him. In this deep autumn weather, the thin shirt couldn’t possibly provide enough warmth. You feel hot?

Yeah. Chen Shu walked to the small bar and took a bottle of mineral water from the refrigerator.

The slightly cool water temporarily relieved his thirst but wasn’t enough to quell the sudden heat rising within him.

Chen Shu pressed his hand against the countertop, closing his eyes to calm himself momentarily, but his frown deepened.

Seeing this, Yan Jingchuan also frowned and walked over to him. Chen Shu?

Chen Shu’s eyelids fluttered, startled by his voice.

Yan Jingchuan supported his forearm. What’s really going on? Are you feeling unwell?

Chen Shu looked down at this hand.

Through the thin layer of fabric, Yan Jingchuan’s unusually hot palm pressed tightly against him, the heat penetrating his skin as if burning through his blood vessels all the way to his lower abdomen, raging uncontrollably.

Such an unnatural reaction made Chen Shu immediately aware.

He clenched his fingers, the mineral water bottle emitting faint cracking sounds as it twisted in his grasp.

Someone drugged me, he said. The water I drank earlier was tampered with.

Zhang Shi stood beside them. Hearing his tone, his eyelids twitched as he instinctively looked at Chen Shu, then was startled by the icy coldness in his eyes.

Usually, Chen Shu appeared cold and stern on the surface but was actually quite easy to get along with—just somewhat aloof, making people feel he was hard to approach.

Before today, apart from being talkative and smiling in front of Director Yan, he had never seen Chen Shu show any emotional fluctuations, let alone such outward displays as now.

Understandable.

No one could remain indifferent after being drugged.

Yan Jingchuan’s already cold voice dropped three degrees colder: Earlier? Where did you say the water was?

Chen Shu said: My room, 1519.

Yan Jingchuan’s gaze turned piercing: Zhang Shi, investigate this.

Right away! This matter was no trivial affair. Zhang Shi hurriedly took the room card Chen Shu handed him and turned to jog out the door.

Bang!

The sound of the door closing echoed.

Yan Jingchuan looked at Chen Shu’s profile as he closed his eyes again: What do you plan to do now?

Chen Shu frowned deeply, his breathing gradually becoming rapid.

He didn’t hear Yan Jingchuan’s voice.

Some time had passed since drinking that bottle of water. Having failed to notice it in time, the drug’s effects were now taking hold, coming on fiercely and violently.

Chen Shu? Chen Shu?

A familiar voice reached him, seeming distant as the horizon.

Chen Shu’s brows twitched slightly. Before he could open his eyes, he felt a circle of fiery body heat press against his arm.

Chen Shu, can you hear me? I’ll take you to the hospital.

The desire burning from his lower abdomen surged forth. Chen Shu exerted slight force to break free from Yan Jingchuan’s grip, using his last remaining rationality to find the direction of the bathroom.

After entering, he turned on the shower and stepped under the water.

The icy water stream poured down from above, instantly soaking through the front of his clothes.

Yan Jingchuan frowned and gripped his wrist: Taking cold showers in this weather will make you sick.

Chen Shu braced his elbow against the wall, letting the cold water drench him completely: Get out.

Chen Shu!

Chen Shu glanced at him, but his vision was nearly blurred. When he spoke again, his voice sounded like a sigh: Go to sleep.

This time, Yan Jingchuan didn’t comply.

In just a few seconds, Chen Shu’s arms drenched in cold water rapidly cooled down. He couldn’t let Chen Shu continue like this.

Chen Shu. Yan Jingchuan’s hand slid upward to grip Chen Shu’s shoulder, stepping closer. You—

Suddenly.

He felt a tightness around his waist as a hand clasped his side, pressing him firmly against the wall the next moment.

Yan Jingchuan grunted.

The cane slipped from its unprepared owner’s hand, falling to the floor with a heavy, crisp sound.

The deep furrow between Chen Shu’s brows intensified. The loud noise barely allowed him to see the person before him clearly. His movements paused slightly.

The cold water continued streaming down from above.

Yan Jingchuan stood in the narrow space between the wall and Chen Shu’s body, almost held in Chen Shu’s embrace.

The water trails that flowed down were cold as ice, while Chen Shu’s burning, slightly erratic breath brushed past his cheek like flowing magma, sparking waves of continuous tremors.

Yan Jingchuan’s breathing also lost its rhythm.

Looking closely at Chen Shu’s strained features from up close, his throat tightened. After a long moment, he finally said in a low voice: Chen Shu, I can help you.

Chen Shu heard his voice but couldn’t make out his words. He simply pressed a knee between Yan Jingchuan’s legs, forcing him to stop: Don’t move.

Yan Jingchuan didn’t struggle free.

He reached up to undo Chen Shu’s belt.

Cool fingertips brushed against sensitive areas during the movement. Chen Shu’s forearm pressed against the wall slid slightly downward, his fingers threading through Yan Jingchuan’s hair, fingertips rubbing in subconscious final restraint.

His voice was extremely hoarse, contained in his throat, sensual with arousal: Don’t move.

The light metallic click of the belt opening was masked by the water sounds.

Perhaps sensing the potent drug effects from Chen Shu’s breathing.

Yan Jingchuan slightly turned his face and kissed the corner of Chen Shu’s lips, not stopping even once.

Let me help you.

As soon as the words fell, he heard Chen Shu’s long, relieved sigh of satisfaction beside his ear.

The effect of the cold water instantly dissolved.

Chen Shu cupped the back of Yan Jingchuan’s head, his tingling kisses lightly tracing the path of his breath like dragonflies skimming water, landing on his jaw.

The hand on his waist moved to his belt and casually unfastened it.

Yan Jingchuan’s heartbeat skipped erratically: Chen Shu—

Before he could finish speaking, he felt the hand that had undone his belt brush past the small of his back, slowly moving downward. His spine stiffened. Wait.

Chen Shu pressed him into his embrace, holding him firmly.

His low, hoarse voice sounded in his ear again.

Don’t move.

Desire steamed in the cold water.

Deeper affection was steadily rising.

The next day.

Chen Shu was awakened by the ringing of his phone, frowning as he opened his eyes.

He raised a hand to his forehead, feeling a splitting headache.

The ringing continued, sounding sharp in his ears.

Chen Shu’s frown didn’t ease. Just as he was about to get up to answer it, he remembered the weight in his arms and turned to look at Yan Jingchuan.

With just one glance, he froze slightly.

Yan Jingchuan had also woken to the ringing. Meeting Chen Shu’s gaze, he remained silent as well.

Chen Shu had already seen his bare upper body.

In his mind, scenes from last night flashed like slides.

The bathroom.

The doorway.

Beside the bed—

Chen Shu closed his eyes.

The drug had taken effect rapidly. He couldn’t remember how it started, and there was no clear end in his memory—only the process, and Yan Jingchuan’s face constantly close before his eyes.

He had never imagined such a situation would occur.

Last night—

Answer the phone first. Yan Jingchuan spoke, hearing his own voice raspy and unrecognizable. He stiffened slightly, pressing his thin lips into a tight line.

Chen Shu also paused before withdrawing his arm from under Yan Jingchuan’s neck.

He threw off the covers and got up, only to realize he was completely naked. He sat back on the edge of the bed, covering himself with a corner of the sheet, and answered He Qiyu’s call.

Chen Shu, are you coming down for breakfast? He Qiyu said. The additional recording is in the afternoon. If you don’t want to come down now, I can have the restaurant send something up.

Chen Shu said, No need.

Hearing his voice, He Qiyu was taken aback.

She always accompanied Chen Shu for his schedules and knew his biological clock well. At this hour, he should have been up long ago—why did he sound like he’d just woken up today?

She shook her head and refocused. So you plan to come down to the restaurant to eat?

Hearing this, Chen Shu glanced back at Yan Jingchuan. Hungry?

He Qiyu was startled again. I—

Before she could finish even one word, she heard another person’s voice through the receiver.

Though distant and exceptionally hoarse, it was still recognizable…

It was Director Yan’s voice…

He Qiyu was shocked.

When did Director Yan arrive?

She had returned with Chen Shu last night. If Director Yan had been here, he would have surely come to pick him up.

Was it late at night? Or early this morning??

Send two portions over. Chen Shu gave He Qiyu the room number and, after a thought, added, Make them light.

Light?

He Qiyu was puzzled but still replied, Okay, I’ll go place the order right away.

After hanging up, Chen Shu put the phone back on the bedside table.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the still damp, scattered clothes on the carpet, and his headache instinctively worsened.

You should go to the hospital for a check-up today, Yan Jingchuan’s voice came from behind him. To confirm the drug you took isn’t harmful to your body.

Chen Shu looked at him. What about you?

Yan Jingchuan’s jaw was cold and rigid. I’m fine.

Chen Shu got up, took a robe from the wardrobe and put it on, then returned to the bedside and lifted the covers.

Yan Jingchuan immediately raised his hand to press down, then froze for a second as if he had strained something before asking, What are you doing?

Chen Shu said, Checking if you’re injured.

No need. Yan Jingchuan repeated in a deep voice, I’m fine.

Chen Shu said, If you won’t let me check, then I’ll have to call a doctor to examine you.

Yan Jingchuan softened slightly but still insisted, I’m really fine, I just need rest. Then he changed the subject, Step aside, I need to change clothes.

Seeing he wouldn’t change his attitude, Chen Shu released his hand and said before leaving, I’ll be inside. Call me if you need anything.

Yan Jingchuan nodded, Alright.

His clothes had also been soaked through last night. Chen Shu threw another bathrobe onto the bed before turning to wash up in the bathroom.

With a click, the door closed tightly.

Chen Shu turned back and first noticed the bathroom nearby, when images from last night suddenly flashed through his mind.

He walked slowly to the sink and met his reflection in the mirror, Yan Jingchuan’s flushed eyes appearing briefly in his memory again.

Chen Shu frowned slightly, leaned over the sink with both hands, and closed his eyes briefly to suppress the thoughts in his mind.

What had happened was already done – there was no avoiding it.

But how should he deal with this accident with Yan Jingchuan?
