Ji Xu’an’s car was parked not far away.

When she reached the car door, Ji Xu’an finally let go of her right hand that was tightly interlocked with Jiang Jiang’s. She opened the car door for Jiang Jiang, watched Jiang Jiang get in, and then bent down to help her fasten her seat belt.

Ji Heyuan was amazed by this thoughtful service, deliberately adopting a whiny tone: “Good sister, I can’t open the car door either!”

Ji Xu’an ignored her completely, she was still slowly fastening her seat belt.

The lights in the car were not turned on, only the street lights not far away cast a circle of soft light, barely illuminating this small world.

In the dim light, Ji Xu’an leaned against the back of the seat, her long hair cascading down her shoulders. Half-bent over, her face was mere inches from Jiang Jiang’s cheek, their breaths mingling in the close confines.

Jiang Jiang quietly held her breath, nervously grabbing the hem of her clothes with both hands. She even forgot to blink, her eyes staring straight at Ji Xu’an’s thick eyelashes, not daring to move down a bit.

The darkness stirred a sense of desire. Despite Jiang Jiang and Ji Xu’an’s restraint, having not met each other’s gaze, an inexplicable restlessness and tension hung in the air between them. They couldn’t tell whose heart was racing, but the rapid heartbeat was so loud it was hard to ignore.

Accompanied by the heavy silence, Ji Xu’an’s hand on the back of the seat also quietly tightened a little, and the light blue blood vessels on the back of her hand were looming, as if she was suppressing something.

Jiang Jiang remained perfectly still, allowing Ji Xu’an to almost completely envelop her in the confines of the seat. The other woman’s breath completely surrounded her, Ji Xu’an could easily overpower any resistance from Jiang Jiang if she chose to.

Neither of them spoke. Ji Xu’an had clearly fastened her seat belt, but she was slow to get up and leave.

A thought vaguely popped up in Ji Xu’an’s mind, and she felt that she should say something at this time.

But before Ji Xu’an could figure out what to say, the delicate atmosphere was broken by Ji Heyuan’s words.

“What are you two doing?” Ji Heyuan leaned over curiously, “Isn’t it fastened yet?”

If she didn’t know her sister’s character, Ji Heyuan would have suspected they’d shared a secret kiss behind her back.

A blush flooded Jiang Jiang’s face. She licked her lips nervously and murmured, “Sister, I can manage it myself.”

Ji Xu’an took a deep breath, straightened up and closed the passenger seat door. Her breath suddenly moved away, and Jiang Jiang unconsciously raised her eyes and looked over. Through the half-open car window, the two’s eyes intertwined again.

Their eyes met for only a few seconds before they both quickly looked away, a silent agreement to leave the moment unspoken. No matter how much Ji Heyuan speculated, neither of them mentioned what had just transpired.

Ji Heyuan looked at Ji Xu’an, and then at Jiang Jiang, and muttered in a low voice, “Weird.”

Ji Xu’an opened the car door for her, her tone calm,”Are you still leaving?”

Ji Heyuan chuckled, leaning over to get into the car. “Let’s go, let’s go, don’t leave me behind!!”

Once they were both seated, Ji Xu’an returned to the driver’s seat. Silently, she started the car, holding the steering wheel with one hand, her eyes downcast, her thoughts unreadable.

Jiang Jiang smoothed the crumpled hem of her clothes, turning her face to the window. She closed her eyes, her long hair stirred by the night breeze, carrying away the heat on her cheeks and the lingering traces of that brief, heart-fluttering moment.

Ji Heyuan, ever oblivious, didn’t notice anything wrong. She just felt that the two were a little too quiet, but because Ji Xu’an and Jiang Jiang didn’t usually talk much, she didn’t think much about it.

“Sister, you didn’t see her earlier, that woman was so arrogant!” Ji Heyuan complained about He Xinyao.

She couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the memory of He Xinyao’s sharp features. “I don’t know what huge grudge she has with Xie Jiang Jiang,” she muttered, “She actually claimed Xie Jiang Jiang was trying to harm her.”

Ji Xu’an snapped out of her thoughts and glanced at Jiang Jiang, who was silent and looking down. She sensed Jiang Jiang was hiding something, but knowing Jiang Jiang wasn’t inclined to share, Ji Xu’an thoughtfully refrained from asking her.

In any case, ever since she learned Jiang Jiang had asked Old Liu to investigate He Xinyao, Ji Xu’an had already instructed Secretary Zhao to look into the matter.

When He Xinyao saw her just now, her expression obviously had a moment of panic and shock, which all showed that she had known herself for a long time.

Ji Xu’an suspected that what He Xinyao wanted to target was not Jiang Jiang, but herself, or Linghai Group, and Jiang Jiang was just taking the blame for her.

With the surname He…

Ji Xu’an tapped the steering wheel absently with her fingertips. Among her past competitors, there didn’t seem to be anyone with the surname He. However, she couldn’t rule out the possibility that He Xinyao was a relative of someone, after all, she couldn’t possibly know everyone’s ancestors for eighteen generations.

Xiao Yuan mentioned the recording pen just now. Ji Xu’an could be sure that the contents inside were definitely unfavorable to Jiang Jiang, or to the Ji family, otherwise He Xinyao wouldn’t be so nervous.

Jiang Jiang was able to ask Old Liu to inquire about He Xinyao’s past, which meant that she had been wary of He Xinyao for a long time. In this way, whether He Xinyao’s recording pen really recorded valuable content was questionable.

Just as Ji Xu’an was sorting things out, Jiang Jiang, who was sitting in the passenger seat, suddenly looked up at her, “Sister, so you sent me a message, I didn’t see it.”

On Jiang Jiang’s lit-up phone screen, Ji Xu’an’s message sent half an hour ago was clearly displayed. She asked Jiang Jiang if she was finished.

At that time, Jiang Jiang was confronting He Xinyao, so naturally it was impossible to reply to her.

“Yeah.” Ji Xu’an nodded slightly.

It was because Jiang Jiang didn’t reply to her that she called Ji Heyuan again.

Hearing this, Ji Heyuan couldn’t help but interject, “Sister, you didn’t run a red light when you came, did you?”

Ji Xu’an pursed her lips, “No.”

Ji Heyuan nudged Jiang Jiang playfully, whispering conspiratorially, “Xie Jiang Jiang, let me tell you, my sister heard you had a conflict with someone, and she was so worried! I even thought she was going to call in a whole army of bodyguards!”

Jiang Jiang couldn’t help but laugh, already picturing the scene in her mind.

Ji Heyuan was really going all out to tease her sister about this.

Ji Xu’an didn’t say anything, and Ji Heyuan smiled and patted the back of her chair, “Sister, it’s a good thing you didn’t do that, otherwise you’ll definitely be on the news headlines tomorrow.”

Ji Xu’an didn’t look back, “Do you think everyone is as stupid as you?”

“Tch.” Ji Heyuan snorted lightly, thinking that this was only in front of Xie Jiang Jiang, I’m at least giving you some face.

Although Ji Xu’an didn’t admit that she ran a red light, Ji Heyuan vowed that her sister’s speed was definitely faster than usual.

As soon as she heard that her wife might have an accident, she was more anxious than anyone else, and even forgot about her own sister.

Ji Heyuan found her feelings complex. Over this period, she’d fully accepted Jiang Jiang, and even the thought of Jiang Jiang marrying Ji Xu’an no longer sparked the jealousy she’d once felt.

But at the same time, Ji Heyuan had to confront a harsh reality, once her sister had a wife, she might no longer receive the same unconditional love and indulgence.

It should be said that Ji Xu’an would no longer put her first.

Ji Heyuan couldn’t help but sigh deeply. Fortunately, this sister-in-law Jiang Jiang was still very nice to me, and she could even influence Sister’s thoughts.

Thinking this, Ji Heyuan’s earlier melancholy vanished. As long as she treated Xie Jiang Jiang well, and got Xie Jiang Jiang to put in a good word with her sister, what was there to worry about? Her allowance would surely be restored!

A newfound light shone in Ji Heyuan’s eyes. Jiang Jiang could feel the intensity of her gaze shift, and couldn’t help but grow wary, suspecting Ji Heyuan was up to something again.

Jiang Jiang could sense it,and Ji Xu’an was naturally not completely unaware.

It was fine in the car, but after getting out of the car, Ji Heyuan kept sticking to Jiang Jiang, and even when she entered the elevator, she kept talking to Jiang Jiang.

Reason told Ji Xu’an that Ji Heyuan was her own sister, they were a family, and she shouldn’t mind this.

But the fact was, despite her best efforts, Ji Xu’an couldn’t help but interrupt Ji Heyuan’s chatter.

“Jiang Jiang’s tired. Let’s talk tomorrow,” Ji Xu’an said.

Jiang Jiang offered her a good-natured smile. Only then did Ji Heyuan notice the faint weariness in Jiang Jiang’s eyes. She stopped mid-sentence, a hint of unspoken meaning lingering, and simply said, “Okay.”

When they returned to the apartment, it was almost eleven o’clock.

Without waiting for Ji Xu’an to speak, Ji Heyuan yawned and entered her room, waving to the two of them when she closed the door, “Good night.”

She left, leaving Jiang Jiang and Ji Xu’an facing each other.

After a few seconds, Jiang Jiang took the lead in breaking the silence, “Sister, let’s go back to my room too.”

Ji Xu’an paused for two seconds before humming in agreement.

She knew Jiang Jiang meant nothing by it, but when Ji Xu’an heard that sentence just now, her first thought was how much they sounded like a loving couple.

The word “room” made it hard not to be misunderstood.

But Jiang Jiang seemed to just mention it casually. Ji Xu’an looked at her back as she walked into the bedroom, and her eyes were much deeper than usual.

The master bedroom and second bedroom of this apartment in Star River Bay both had independent bathrooms. Jiang Jiang had class tomorrow, so Ji Xu’an asked her to wash up first, while she went back to her room to get a set of pajamas.

When she was packing her things, Ji Heyuan was smiling wickedly and leaning against the door, winking at her, “You two take it easy, if Xie Jiang Jiang can’t get up tomorrow morning, I won’t help her ask for leave.”

Ji Xu’an frowned, “What nonsense are you talking about?”

Ji Heyuan wasn’t afraid of her at all. She shrugged her shoulders, “I’m just kindly reminding you, I don’t mean anything else.”

Ji Xu’an kept a straight face and didn’t say a word.

When she returned to Jiang Jiang’s room again, Jiang Jiang hadn’t finished washing up yet. The faint sound of water came from the bathroom, and Ji Xu’an’s expression suddenly became a little unnatural.

She seemed to be affected by Ji Heyuan’s words just now, and unwanted thoughts kept appearing in her mind.

Ji Xu’an put down her pajamas and sat on the sofa, wanting to read a book for a while, but she couldn’t calm down.

The scene from earlier, before getting into the car, replayed in her mind.

Ji Xu’an remembered how close they’d been earlier, bodies tense, Jiang Jiang purely nervous and shy, while she herself had been ready to move closer, captivated by the hint of something more in Jiang Jiang’s eyes.

Jiang Jiang thought she was serious and trusted her unconditionally, but only Ji Xu’an herself knew where her eyes were looking at that time.

If Xiao Yuan hadn’t interrupted, what would I have said to Jiang Jiang at that time?

Ji Xu’an couldn’t help but lower her eyes to look at her palm. When she interlocked her fingers with Jiang Jiang, her heartbeat was obviously rapid and fast. Her expressions and actions could be restrained, but only her heartbeat couldn’t lie.

Ji Xu’an fell into confusion. In the past twenty-six years, she had never experienced such complicated feelings.

She was used to taking care of and protecting Ji Heyuan, so she subconsciously thought that she had the same feelings for Jiang Jiang, but when facing Xiao Yuan, her composure and calmness never needed to be desperately suppressed and disguised.

Ji Xu’an had to consider a question, do I really have feelings for Jiang Jiang that went beyond family affection?

…

When Jiang Jiang emerged from the bathroom, Ji Xu’an was leaning against the window, enjoying the breeze. She propped herself up on the window sill, her gaze distant and lost in thought.

Jiang Jiang walked towards her, and called out softly as she walked, “Sister.”

Ji Xu’an didn’t move her body, but just tilted her head, facing Jiang Jiang with her side face.

As Jiang Jiang approached, the floral-scented shower gel on her body, wrapped in moist water vapor, swept straight towards Ji Xu’an, causing her to be briefly dazed.

In a flash, Jiang Jiang had pressed the back of her hand to Ji Xu’an’s forearm.

“It’s so cold,” Jiang Jiang murmured, “You’ll catch a cold.”

Ji Xu’an, quietly observing her still-flushed cheeks and eyes, obediently closed the window. “Okay,” she replied softly.

Jiang Jiang showed a shallow smile, and her hair was still dripping water, and the water droplets dripped on the pajamas on her chest, leaving a wet mark.

Jiang Jiang was unaware, “Sister, go take a shower too.”

Ji Xu’an’s gaze swept over that wetness, and she looked away from Jiang Jiang’s back, “Don’t worry, I’ll blow your hair first.”

Jiang Jiang’s eyes lit up, and she turned to run back to the bathroom. “Then I’ll get the hairdryer.”

Ji Xu’an raised the corners of her lips, rarely seeing such a lively side of Jiang Jiang.

She thought that Jiang Jiang would be happy because of her closeness, at least it could show that Jiang Jiang had her in her heart.

But then Ji Xu’an’s smile faded again. She was confused and lost because she couldn’t figure out her feelings for Jiang Jiang, but Jiang Jiang seemed to really just treat her as a sister. Her closeness and shyness didn’t involve any romantic thoughts.

Ji Xu’an’s heart sank heavily.

When Jiang Jiang returned with the hairdryer, Ji Xu’an was still standing by the sofa, her demeanor slightly off. Jiang Jiang felt an instinctive urge to make a move on Ji Xu’an, perhaps to help her understand what Jiang Jiang wanted.

But she wasn’t overly anxious. At least, while Ji Xu’an dried her hair, Jiang Jiang remained still, making no sudden movements.

Ji Xu’an stroked Jiang Jiang’s long hair, and after feeling that the strands of hair under her hands were completely dry, she turned off the hair dryer in her hand, “It’s done.”

Just as she was about to turn and put down the hairdryer, Jiang Jiang—who had been sitting obediently—suddenly raised her arms, hugged Ji Xu’an’s waist, and pressed her cheek against her side.

Ji Xu’an was silent for a moment. She stood there motionless, her whole person like a quiet sculpture, even her breathing became very light. Only her fingers hanging by her side curled up and relaxed, indicating her uneasy heart.

Jiang Jiang rubbed and rubbed, making Ji Xu’an’s neat white shirt a little messy. Through the thin fabric, she could clearly feel Ji Xu’an’s warmth and strength. Ji Xu’an’s abdomen was very tight, probably still not used to it?

But Ji Xu’an didn’t push her away.

Jiang Jiang slowly tightened her arms, her voice sticky, as if she was embarrassed, “Sister, I really like you so much.”

When Ji Xu’an heard this, her heart jumped fiercely. She suddenly lowered her head to look at Jiang Jiang, but Jiang Jiang buried her entire face on her body, and her side face was blocked by the long hair that she had personally blown dry. Ji Xu’an could only see the top of her head.

Her fingers twitched, wanting to brush away the stray strands of hair, but she stopped herself.

Jiang Jiang seemed oblivious to Ji Xu’an’s internal struggle. She held onto Ji Xu’an’s waist, continuing to softly whine.

“I was really touched and happy when sister appeared tonight.”

Jiang Jiang’s voice seemed to have a bit more sweetness, “He Xinyao has many family members who love her, so she has the confidence to argue with others. She is very happy, but I don’t envy her.”

“Because I also have a sister to protect me, and sister is better than all of them combined.”

When Jiang Jiang said this, she couldn’t help but look up at Ji Xu’an with watery almond eyes, “Sister, will you always protect me like this?”

She was too pitiful and too humble. Ji Xu’an almost didn’t hesitate and solemnly promised, “Always.”

After saying that, her heart felt a lot easier, and she seriously added, “No matter what happens, I will protect you and not let you be wronged.”

Jiang Jiang asked uneasily, “Then what if I do something wrong? Will sister think I’m a bad child and not want me anymore?”

Ji Xu’an raised her hand and gently stroked the corner of Jiang Jiang’s eyes, wiping away the little bit of water with her fingertips. After wiping away the tears, her hand didn’t leave immediately, but held Jiang Jiang’s small face, and comforted her in a gentle tone, “If you really did something wrong, then it’s also my fault, I didn’t fulfill my obligation to discipline you.”

So she would never abandon Jiang Jiang because of this.

If she didn’t teach well, she would continue to teach. She would give Jiang Jiang a chance to correct herself.

Jiang Jiang saw the seriousness and firmness in Ji Xu’an’s eyes, which was enough to make her believe that Ji Xu’an wasn’t lying to her.

Perhaps, Ji Xu’an’s tolerance for her was much more than she thought.

Jiang Jiang hugged Ji Xu’an affectionately, showering her with sweet words as freely as if they cost nothing. “I’ll always listen to you, Sister,” she murmured.

Ji Xu’an’s hand rested on the back of Jiang Jiang’s head, her thin lips curving upwards in a nearly imperceptible smile. She looked down at Jiang Jiang, her eyes soft and tender.

“I know, Jiang Jiang has always been very well-behaved.”

Jiang Jiang thought to herself, Ji Xu’an appeared cold and aloof, but once you gained her affection, she was far easier to win over than one might initially think.

Lost in thought about her next move, she didn’t notice the intense, unresolved stubbornness and hidden complexity beneath Ji Xu’an’s gentle gaze.

…

When she went to bed at night, Jiang Jiang took the initiative to cross that invisible dividing line.

“Sister, I’m a little cold, can I hug you while sleeping?”

She was sure that Ji Xu’an wouldn’t refuse.

As expected, Ji Xu’an didn’t say anything, but just lifted some of the quilt on her side, and Jiang Jiang immediately moved over.

The thin pajamas offered little insulation, and Jiang Jiang’s soft body pressed close to Ji Xu’an’s arm, even slightly distorting the curve of her chest.

Ji Xu’an tried her best to relax her body. Compared to Jiang Jiang’s posture full of dependence, her sleeping position was so standard it could have been used as a textbook example.

One person was as close as possible, while the other remained indifferent, as if everything was just Jiang Jiang’s wishful thinking.

But if Ji Xu’an hadn’t been so yielding, how could Jiang Jiang have so easily encroached upon her personal space?

Jiang Jiang hugged Ji Xu’an’s arm, and the sweet fragrance went straight into Ji Xu’an’s nose.

“Good night, sister.” Jiang Jiang said softly.

Ji Xu’an didn’t speak, and Jiang Jiang didn’t care. She closed her eyes, and her consciousness quickly fell into a deep sleep.

She slept very soundly. When Jiang Jiang woke up, she only felt that her limbs were warm.

She opened her eyes and realized that the arm that she had been holding in her arms had been pulled out at some point, and replaced by an arm around her waist.

Ji Xu’an hadn’t woken up yet, probably she hugged Jiang Jiang unconsciously after falling asleep.

Jiang Jiang carefully moved to the side. As she moved, Ji Xu’an’s hand slid down a little, and was about to slide off her body.

But before Jiang Jiang could continue to withdraw, the hand that was loosely hanging on her waist suddenly tightened again, and pulled her back into her arms.

Caught off guard, Jiang Jiang’s nose hit Ji Xu’an’s chest, and the warm touch made her face turn red, but this time she was not pretending.

“Sister?” Jiang Jiang called out in a muffled voice.

As she spoke, her lips accidentally touched Ji Xu’an’s skin again, like a deliberate kiss.

Jiang Jiang quickly closed her mouth.

After all that movement, Ji Xu’an was fully awake.

Jiang Jiang was still locked in her arms, obediently letting her bully her.Ji Xu’an could feel her palm against Jiang Jiang’s lower back, and the fingertips touched not pajamas, but something more delicate and supple.

She let go of her hand as if she had been electrocuted, and her early morning voice was still slightly hoarse, “Sorry, I was confused.”

Jiang Jiang sat up, and the blush on her cheeks had completely faded. She didn’t seem to take the accident just now to heart, “It’s okay, sister, did you sleep well last night?”

Ji Xu’an also sat up, “Yeah.”

Jiang Jiang rubbed her cheeks, “I also slept very soundly.”

She sighed very lightly, her tone seemed to be lost, “It would be great if Xiao Yuan always lived here.”

The implied meaning in this sentence was too strong, and it was difficult for Ji Xu’an to pretend not to understand.

She looked at Jiang Jiang’s guilty, erratic gaze, and finally had a smile on her face.

“She doesn’t need to live here all the time.”

Jiang Jiang looked at her in confusion, and let out a soft hum from her nose, “Hmm?”

Ji Xu’an didn’t answer, but lifted the quilt and got out of bed. She first turned her back to Jiang Jiang and covered her loose neckline, and then turned to face Jiang Jiang, her black eyes seemed to have endless depth.

“As long as you want.”

Jiang Jiang watched her leave. Until the door opened and closed, and Ji Xu’an’s figure completely disappeared in the room, Jiang Jiang was still thinking about what Ji Xu’an’s sentence just now meant.

So, Ji Xu’an would sleep with me… as long as I wanted to?

…

Jiang Jiang spent a night in blissful contentment, a stark contrast to He Xinyao’s mood in the hospital.

Because she found that the contents in the recording pen was missing.

There were sounds before and after, and even the sound of her arguing with everyone after falling down the steps was recorded clearly, but when she and Xie Xiao were arguing in the middle, the recording pen was inexplicably turned off.

He Xinyao was so angry that she slammed the thing in her hand on the ground.

This must have been done by Xie Xiao!!
