Chapter 115 – Extra 14: Little Duan’s Great Crisis

“Old Gong, when did we first meet?” Duan Yi asked, sitting at the dining table and spooning congee into his mouth. Beside him were soy milk and fried dough sticks, only half of one stick remaining.

Tiny oil bubbles floated on the milky-white soy milk, left from when Duan Yi had dipped the dough sticks.

When Sheng Yunze heard “Old Gong,” his mind automatically filtered it into “Husband.” He slowly peeled the tea-stained egg in front of him, leaving the cracked egg intact, and handed it to Duan Yi.

Without hesitation, Duan Yi leaned expertly from the table and bit into the egg in Sheng Yunze’s hand. He couldn’t use his hands to hold the egg, as he was already holding a dough stick and chopsticks.

After taking the bite, Duan Yi belatedly realized what he’d done and froze.

Am I crazy?! Duan Yi cursed himself inwardly. Why did I just bite it like that, acting like we’re so familiar?!

He silently swallowed the egg, hoping Sheng Yunze’s expression wouldn’t be too strange.

Stealing a glance at Sheng Yunze, Duan Yi found his expression utterly calm, as if this were a common occurrence.

Duan Yi found this odd but kept his thoughts to himself, pretending nothing had happened as he pressed on with his question: “You still haven’t answered. When did we first meet?”

Sheng Yunze deliberately withheld the answer. “You’ll know when you remember.”

Duan Yi seized on the key phrase, finally piecing together the truth. “So… I have amnesia right now?”

Transmigrate?

Duan Yi had initially considered that possibility.

But it made no sense that his body would have changed if he had transmigrated.

Besides, he was an atheist. The idea of transmigrating was utterly absurd…

Duan Yi nodded in sudden realization. “No wonder, no wonder. I couldn’t recognize anything when I woke up this morning.”

Though he said this aloud, his real question burned in his mind: Why am I sleeping with a man?

Are we really that close?

Even when Duan Yi and Jiang Wangshu had been at their closest, they’d always used separate blankets when sharing a bed. They’d never ended up entangled like this morning.

He vividly remembered waking up in Sheng Yunze’s arms.

How close do you have to be to sleep like that? Like a twisted braid…

Duan Yi silently stared at the fried dough stick in his hand, taking a thoughtful bite.

Though countless mysteries clamored for his attention, the immediate priority was still filling his stomach.

Sheng Yunze ate breakfast with him, then placed the dishes in the sink.

Duan Yi paced restlessly around the living room, as fidgety as a puppy. Sheng Yunze suspected his wife had ADHD, and her behavior seemed to confirm it.

Sheng Yunze had initially planned to simply toss the dishes into the dishwasher. But when he caught Duan Yi sneaking glances at him from the corner of his eye, he suddenly changed his mind.

He turned on the faucet and began washing the dishes with exaggerated motions.

Of course, Sheng Yunze, the High Mountain Flower, the Little Dragon Girl of the mortal realm, utterly devoid of any domestic skills, was completely inept at washing dishes.

He squeezed out a dollop of soap and began scrubbing haphazardly with a sponge, leaving the dishes still dirty. Yet his focused expression and handsome features made the performance surprisingly convincing.

Outside, Duan Yi sat on the sofa like he was sitting on pins and needles. He couldn’t stay still for more than a few minutes before getting up to pace around the living room again.

The TV was on, and Duan Yi grabbed the remote to find an anime. He immediately chose One Piece, selecting his favorite episode to play as background noise.

Duan Yi had practically memorized the entire One Piece storyline. He usually enjoyed watching it while eating, but today he couldn’t focus on a single frame.

By nine o’clock, Sheng Yunze had finally finished washing the dishes, dragging out the task as long as possible.

The sink was piled high with soapy water and unwashed dishes.

Duan Yi slid open the kitchen’s glass door and looked up. “Are you done washing?”

Sheng Yunze lied without a flicker of expression, wiping his hands. “All done.”

Duan Yi immediately stood up. “I wanted to ask you something, but I didn’t want to bother you while you were busy.”

Sheng Yunze glanced at the anime playing on the TV, and Duan Yi suddenly felt his cheeks flush under that gaze.

Technically, I’m still a fourteen-year-old First-Year student. There’s nothing wrong with watching cartoons, he thought. But Sheng Yunze’s look makes me feel so childish.

He turned off the TV, trying to act casual. “I just turned it on and it started playing this by itself. You like One Piece too?”

Sheng Yunze picked up his glass and took a sip, trying to hide the smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He looked up at Duan Yi, who still possessed the innocence and youthful energy Sheng Yunze remembered from his own high school days. It made him feel a pang of nostalgia.

Duan Yi felt he should show some courtesy before asking his question.

Seeing Sheng Yunze drink, he rushed to refill his glass, only to realize it was still full. He let out a confused “Huh?”

Something felt off, but he couldn’t quite place what it was.

“What did you want to ask?” Sheng Yunze prompted.

Duan Yi’s interest was immediately piqued. “A lot!”

He gestured expansively, then blurted out his most pressing question: “Did I stay at your place last night?”

“Yes,” Sheng Yunze replied.

Duan Yi exhaled in relief, patting his chest.

Good thing, good thing. He’d just taken a quick look around the room and noticed everything was in pairs, making it seem like he and Sheng Yunze lived together.

Now that he’d asked, the weight in his heart lifted.

I knew it! There’s no way I’d live with an Alpha!

Damn, that was a close call. I almost thought I’d grown up and, of all things, decided to go gay!

Seeing Duan Yi’s relief, the smile on Sheng Yunze’s lips deepened, though it took on a slightly mischievous edge.

“I’ll head back soon and not bother you,” Duan Yi said. “By the way, I noticed everything in your room is in pairs. You don’t live alone, do you?”

Sheng Yunze calmly replied, “I’m married. I live with my wife.”

“Ah?” Duan Yi stammered, momentarily stunned.

Sheng Yunze continued evenly, “What? Is it so strange for someone my age to be married?”

Duan Yi’s mind went blank for a moment as he stared at Sheng Yunze, a strange mix of emotions churning within him.

It felt as if ten thousand ants were gnawing at his heart, leaving him with an inexplicable sense of resentment and discomfort.

“Oh, right,” Duan Yi muttered, inwardly cursing himself for being ridiculous. What business is it of yours whether he’s married or not? He then said, “I just assumed you were too young to be married.”

Sheng Yunze immediately retorted with his trademark sharp tongue, “Really? You’ve already called me ‘Uncle.’ Am I not old enough?”

Duan Yi felt deeply embarrassed. “…I just slipped up.”

After all, being called “Uncle” by someone his own age was hardly a pleasant experience.

Duan Yi wanted to ask Sheng Yunze how old he was, what he did for work, and where he worked.

Or whether he was married, who his wife was, if he had a family, and where his home was.

He had so many questions swirling in his mind, but after agonizing over it for a while, he decided it wasn’t appropriate to ask Sheng Yunze.

The only reliable information he had was that he and Sheng Yunze were quite close.

How could they not be close? The man has a wife and kids, yet he spent the night sleeping in my arms like a brother. Why didn’t his Sister-in-law come out and beat me to death?

Duan Yi was struck dumb by his own wild imaginings.

Sheng Yunze glanced at his phone. Duan Yi asked, “Are you going to work?”

“No, I took the day off.” Sheng Yunze was still worried about Duan Yi and had called in sick to the hospital.

Duan Yi hummed in acknowledgment, scratching his cheek. “Then… I’d like to go home. Do you know where I live? Or could I borrow your phone to call my dad and ask him to pick me up?”

When he woke up, he saw two phones. One was probably his, but he didn’t know which one.

He didn’t want to accidentally grab Sheng Yunze’s phone, and he couldn’t remember what password he’d set—he’d forgotten his phone had fingerprint unlock.

Sheng Yunze looked up at him. “You want to go home?”

“Yeah,” Duan Yi replied matter-of-factly. “I don’t want to bother you.”

His explanation was straightforward and reasonable.

Sheng Yunze wasn’t anyone special to him. The man had a wife and son, and even though his wife wasn’t home right now, she’d definitely be back eventually…

Duan Yi’s mind wandered off on a tangent, his thoughts running wild. I wonder what his wife looks like? He’s so handsome—what kind of person could marry him?

Sheng Yunze told him to wait a moment and went out to the balcony to make a call.

Duan Yi had just finished breakfast and wasn’t hungry, but when he saw the snacks on the table, he couldn’t resist tearing open a bag and starting to eat.

Sheng Yunze had just said he could eat anything, further confirming Duan Yi’s belief that their close relationship wasn’t without reason. They shared a common interest: scattering snacks throughout the house.

As Duan Yi happily munched away, Sheng Yunze finished his phone call.

He immediately swallowed the dried strawberry. Sheng Yunze announced, “My son is coming home.”

“Your son?” Duan Yi asked. He remembered Sheng Yunze mentioning earlier that he had a son.

Sheng Yunze nodded, glancing at the snacks on the table. As expected, Duan Yi had only picked out the good ones.

Amusing, he thought. Even with amnesia, he remembers exactly what he likes to eat. What a pig.

Half an hour later, Xiaoduan Mom arrived at the door with the twins.

Sheng Yunze had briefly explained Duan Yi’s situation to her earlier. Initially shocked, Xiaoduan Mom’s surprise quickly turned to delight when she saw Sheng Yunze’s rapid recovery. She rushed over, eager to see her fourteen-year-old son.

When the door opened, Duan Yi was startled to see his mother. “What are you doing here?!”

“A-Ze invited me,” Xiaoduan Mom replied.

Duan Yi remembered his close relationship with Sheng Yunze and realized the other man must know his mother well.

Just as he was about to say something, the nanny entered, carrying the twins.

In an instant, Duan Yi’s gaze was drawn to the twins.

Such adorable little children.

His eyes couldn’t help but circle around them. The twins, equally excited to see him, scrambled toward Duan Yi with all fours.

Nearly two years old, the children were surprisingly strong, and the nanny nearly lost her grip.

Sheng Xi, in particular, bounced and wriggled so fiercely he seemed determined to leap from the nanny’s arms—preferably straight into Duan Yi’s embrace.

Duan Yi was startled by the child’s sudden movements. For some reason, when Sheng Xi reached out to grab him, Duan Yi instinctively leaned forward and said, “Let me hold him.”

With practiced ease, he scooped Sheng Xi into his arms.

Sheng Xi settled contentedly against Duan Yi, reaching up to grasp his collar—a habit of his.

If Duan Yi had long hair, Sheng Xi would undoubtedly tug on it, just like his dad. Sheng Yunze had a similar annoying habit of playing with Duan Yi’s hair.

Duan Yi hadn’t yet realized how good he was with children.

By now, Sheng Xi could speak fluently, but the lazy little boy deliberately refused to talk, preferring to simply smile at Duan Yi.

Sheng Ming, being slightly smarter than his younger brother, had developed an intense fascination with picture books and had already learned over five hundred characters. He also possessed an exceptional sensitivity to numbers.

“Is this your son?” Duan Yi asked, noticing Sheng Yunze emerging from the house.

Xiaoduan Mom, having already heard about Duan Yi from Sheng Yunze, wasn’t surprised.

Sheng Yunze picked up Sheng Ming and playfully pinched his nose. Sensing Duan Yi’s unfamiliarity, Sheng Ming looked up at his father with a puzzled expression, hoping for an explanation. “Dad?”

“We’re playing a game with your mom,” Sheng Yunze replied.

Hearing the word “game,” Sheng Xi’s head also turned.

Unconcerned about whether Duan Yi would understand, Sheng Yunze openly declared, “It’s a game where we pretend not to know your mom.”

True to form, Duan Yi completely missed the point. “Sister-in-law’s back?” he asked innocently.

Sheng Yunze merely smiled without answering, while Xiaoduan Mom struggled to suppress her laughter. Holding Sheng Xi in his arms, Duan Yi sensed the awkward atmosphere.

He could only lower his gaze to Sheng Xi, marveling at the child’s striking resemblance to Sheng Yunze. The boy’s eyes and demeanor were unmistakably like his father’s.

Sheng Xi clung to Duan Yi with unusual intensity.

Having not seen Duan Yi for about two days, the boy insisted on following him everywhere.

Sheng Yunze scolded Sheng Xi, forbidding him from clinging to Duan Yi for hugs. Sheng Xi then changed his tactics, sitting down and hugging Duan Yi’s leg instead.

Whenever Duan Yi tried to stand up and walk, Sheng Xi would tug on his trouser leg, emitting strange noises like “wuwuwu, gugugu, bobobo”

Sheng Yunze would warn Sheng Xi again: “Either speak properly or don’t speak at all. Stop making those weird noises.”

In this, Sheng Xi was just like his father. Sheng Yunze had never heeded Mother Sheng’s request to lift his feet while walking.

Similarly, Sheng Xi never listened to his father’s demands, continuing to “wuwu” as he pleased.

Duan Yi played with Sheng Xi on the sofa.

Sheng Xi brought all his toys from his room for Duan Yi, who then taught him how to assemble puzzles.

Sheng Xi didn’t enjoy puzzles much, but Sheng Ming liked them a bit more. Duan Yi pulled Sheng Ming close and showed him how to put the pieces together.

Sheng Ming would deliberately misplace pieces, hoping Duan Yi would spend more time teaching him. He loved playing with Duan Yi.

But Duan Yi’s playtime with them was always too short.

Sheng Yunze constantly interfered, preventing Duan Yi from staying with them for long. Their father would always find some bizarre excuse to separate them, like the Queen Mother of the West separating Dong Yong and the Seventh Fairy—utterly detestable.

But today was strangely different.

Sheng Ming kept turning to glance at the study. Why hasn’t Dad come out yet?

Usually, when Duan Yi played with the two children, Sheng Yunze couldn’t stand it. He’d always barge in, play for a while, then find some excuse to whisk Duan Yi away.

But today, Duan Yi had been playing with them for so long, and Dad still hadn’t appeared.

Noticing Sheng Ming’s distracted puzzle-solving, Duan Yi asked, “What’s wrong?”

Sheng Ming looked up. “I want to see Dad!”

“Oh, your dad will be out soon,” Duan Yi replied.

He paused, his hand holding the puzzle piece stiffening. The carefully rehearsed words hovered on his tongue, circling repeatedly without escaping.

Finally, he gritted his teeth and asked awkwardly, “Why haven’t I seen your mom around?”

The two children froze simultaneously, then turned to stare at him in unison.

Duan Yi, thinking his question had been too abrupt and feeling a pang of guilt, started sweating at the back of his neck. “Just curious,” he stammered. “You two are so cute, your mom must be really pretty too.”

Sheng Ming and Sheng Xi exchanged glances, both instantly recalling Sheng Yunze’s earlier game of “pretending not to know Mom.”

Sheng Ming was the first to react. Realizing Duan Yi was genuinely trying to play with him, he straightened up and nodded vigorously. “Very pretty!”

Duan Yi felt a pang of bitterness. With Sheng Yunze being so handsome, it’s only natural his wife would be beautiful too, he thought.

Sheng Ming added, “You’re beautiful too…”

Duan Yi pinched his cheek. “Little flatterer.”

“What’s a flatterer?” Sheng Ming was at his most curious, but his words came out in a rush, some syllables slurred together with drool and baby talk, nearly melting Duan Yi with cuteness.

Just as Duan Yi was about to kiss Sheng Xi, fate intervened. Sheng Yunze grabbed the boy by the scruff of his neck and lifted him into the air.

“There’s a limit to how much you can wheedle.”

Sheng Xi let out a shriek for his brother’s sake. Sheng Yunze glanced at him. “Do you need a lesson in manners?”

Sheng Xi screamed again, then burrowed into Duan Yi’s arms, giggling. “No!”

Duan Yi’s heart melted at the sight of Sheng Xi and Sheng Ming. He hadn’t realized he loved children this much.

Back in middle school, he used to find kids annoying… though perhaps those other kids just weren’t as adorable.

Xiaoduan Mom stayed for dinner. The chef arrived around two in the afternoon to start preparing the meal (and discovered Sheng Yunze’s unfinished dishes).

Duan Yi spent the evening playing wildly with the two children on the sofa, and even mealtime couldn’t stop their antics.

Sheng Xi clung to Duan Yi, begging to be fed, but Sheng Yunze lifted him into his high chair, handed him a spoon, and told him to eat by himself.

The toddler gripped the bowl, still unable to hold it steady, and furiously shoveled food into his mouth with his candy-colored spoon. He managed to scoop up the broccoli at first, but when it came to the creamy pasta, the spoon couldn’t hold the slippery noodles. After two failed attempts, Sheng Xi reached for the pasta with his hands.

Sheng Yunze immediately stopped him, but Duan Yi couldn’t bear to watch any longer—he had been observing the children the whole time.

He snatched the spoon from Sheng Xi’s hand and began feeding him noodles with his own chopsticks.

Sheng Xi ate one noodle at a time, his chubby cheeks working tirelessly as he slurped each strand into his mouth.

Duan Yi watched him eat, chuckling, and wiped the cream sauce from the corner of Sheng Xi’s mouth with a napkin. “Eat slowly,” he said. “No one’s going to steal your food.”

After finishing her meal, Xiaoduan Mom prepared to leave. Remembering Duan Yi’s current situation, she glanced at Sheng Yunze before turning to call out, “Baby, are you coming home with Mommy today?”

After Duan Yi coaxed the two children to finish their milk, the nanny took them to bed. It was only when he heard Xiaoduan Mom’s call that he realized he had to leave.

Suddenly, a pang of reluctance tugged at his heart.

Duan Yi despised this unexpected reluctance. He wanted to find an excuse to stay at Sheng Yunze’s house, but felt too embarrassed.

What if his wife comes home from work later?

But leaving…

He couldn’t bear it.

Why can’t I bear it?

Duan Yi dragged himself off the sofa, muttering, “Oh…”

Sheng Yunze stood by the door, gently tugging at his sleeve. “It’s cold outside. Wear an extra layer.”

Duan Yi looked at Sheng Yunze, who was politely seeing him out without any hint of urging him to stay.

This made it even harder for Duan Yi to ask to stay.

Xiaoduan Mom chuckled, “You’re acting like a little kid who doesn’t want to go home after having too much fun at a friend’s house!”

“I’m not!” Duan Yi protested. “By the way, Mom, I still have so many questions for you. We can talk in the car later…”

Xiaoduan Mom nodded. Sheng Yunze offered, “I’ll walk you to the car.”

The driver was waiting at the entrance. After a few polite exchanges between Xiaoduan Mom and Sheng Yunze, she got into the car.

Duan Yi followed Xiaoduan Mom outside, suddenly not wanting to go home.

Especially since it was quite cold outside, looking like it might snow. Even wrapped in a trench coat, Duan Yi still felt chilly.

The car door stood open. Sheng Yunze asked, “Why aren’t you getting in?”

Duan Yi hesitated, “I…”

Sheng Yunze: “Did you forget something?”

Duan Yi: “No, not really…”

Sheng Yunze: “Did you bring your phone?”

That… I actually didn’t.

Seeing Duan Yi’s expression, Sheng Yunze understood immediately. “Go get it.”

Xiaoduan Mom leaned out of the car. “Go ahead, Mom will wait for you.”

Duan Yi mumbled an “Okay” and turned back toward the house.

Sheng Yunze watched him go inside before turning to Xiaoduan Mom. “Mom, you can leave now.”

Xiaoduan Mom gave him a knowing look, understanding that Sheng Yunze would never let his wife return to her family home alone. She patted the driver’s seat, and the car started instantly.

The bedroom light was on. Duan Yi rummaged through the bed, but his phone was nowhere to be found.

The door creaked behind him. Without turning around, Duan Yi knew Sheng Yunze had returned. “Tell Mom to wait a minute,” he said. “I can’t find my phone.”

Sheng Yunze didn’t reply, and Duan Yi sensed an odd tension in the air.

Just as Duan Yi was about to turn around, darkness suddenly enveloped him.

Sheng Yunze had switched off the bedroom light.

Duan Yi exclaimed in surprise, “You turned off the light—holy shit?!”

Before he could finish speaking, he felt Sheng Yunze’s arms wrap around him from behind.

The scorching heat of Sheng Yunze’s adult male body pressed against him, setting Duan Yi’s entire body ablaze.

Sheng Yunze’s hands clamped firmly around his waist with such force that Duan Yi had no chance to struggle before being pinned onto the bed.

His mind went blank, and he even forgot to cry out, his eyes wide in the darkness.

After a moment, Duan Yi began to struggle violently. “Holy shit! What are you doing?!”

With one hand, Sheng Yunze seized both of Duan Yi’s wrists, pulling them above his head and pinning them to the bed.

His other hand clamped over Duan Yi’s mouth, silencing him.

Only then did Sheng Yunze answer Duan Yi’s question, his voice slow, deliberate, and full of dark amusement: “Fucking you.”

Duan Yi: =口=!

Sheng Yunze’s tone turned thick and possessive, both seductive and cold: “You deliberately made excuses to stay at my place, didn’t you? Isn’t that what you wanted?”

Wait—

Wait, wait, wait, wait!

Duan Yi was stunned. Fuck, weren’t we friends? Fuck? Fuck? Fuck???

No! You have a wife!

Sheng Yunze seemed to anticipate Duan Yi’s question, answering with a dismissive, scoundrel-like tone: “My wife gets off work at eleven. Think we can finish before she gets home?”

Duan Yi’s brain short-circuited. He couldn’t comprehend how their innocent friendship had suddenly veered into midnight territory.

He shook his head violently, whimpering. Sheng Yunze removed his hand, and Duan Yi snapped, “You’re insane! I’m an Alpha!”

“Oh,” Sheng Yunze replied dismissively, his hand sliding down Duan Yi’s vulnerable neck to his lower abdomen. He pressed down a few times with suggestive force, his voice dripping with malice as he asked, “So, think I could get an Alpha pregnant?”
