Chapter 80 – Pregnant???

The night before Duan Yi’s wedding, he was still cramming for his makeup exams.

Second High School’s seven-day vacation had flown by like a dream, but the avalanche of test papers had been relentless. Math alone had thirty-one sheets.

Not to mention Chinese, English, and the combined science subjects—and English even included a newspaper that was a pain to carry around.

Ever since Duan Yi learned he had scored over 500 on his final exams, his confidence had soared. He’d developed intermittent bursts of studiousness, vowing to get into Tsinghua University (a near-impossible goal).

Around midnight the previous night, Xiaoduan Dad had passed by Duan Yi’s room and seen him still working under the light. Overwhelmed with emotion, he finally said the words he’d longed to say for years, “Go to bed early. Stop studying.”

Xiaoduan Dad was now somewhat satisfied with Duan Yi’s current relationship.

Duan Shaoheng had been busy with work even during the Lunar New Year. He arrived at his maternal grandmother’s house the next morning, laden with luxury goods the elderly relatives couldn’t even name—some of which he himself endorsed.

Duan Yi was still upstairs in the study, working on his homework. Duan Shaoheng’s voice grew louder as he approached, “Little brother—”

Then, Duan Shaoheng suddenly bear-hugged Duan Yi, causing Duan Yi’s pen to skid off the page. Duan Yi roared, “Damn it! You’re so heavy!”

Duan Shaoheng: “=3= Did you miss your brother?”

Duan Yi: “No.”

Duan Shaoheng: “Are you sure you’re not lying?”

Duan Yi pushed Duan Shaoheng’s face away, preventing him from getting saliva all over his face. “No, I’m not.”

He used both hands and feet to tear Duan Shaoheng off him. “Can’t you talk from a distance? Your perfume is suffocating me!”

Duan Shaoheng sniffed himself. “But I didn’t wear any perfume today, Brother.”

He grinned and leaned closer, staring at Duan Yi. “Dad said you’ve undergone secondary differentiation into an Omega?”

Duan Yi guiltily averted his gaze. Duan Shaoheng struck a Xi Shi Heart-Clutching pose, like a maiden in prayer. “It must be the result of my nightly prayers. God has finally granted me a little sister…”

Duan Yi was speechless. “Who’s your little sister?! I’m perfectly intact, thank you very much!”

Duan Shaoheng affectionately patted Duan Yi’s head. “In my eyes, Shishi is now Brother’s precious little sister.”

Duan Yi hated being called by that embarrassing nickname. Every time someone used it, he’d explode. “Aaaah! Shut up!”

The brothers immediately started wrestling in the study.

When Xiaoduan Mom came upstairs, she found Duan Shaoheng pinned beneath Duan Yi, tears streaming down his face from laughter. “Help! Mercy! He’s trying to murder his own brother! Remember our past! Our youthful days running through internet cafes! Who introduced you to King of Glory in the first place?!”

Just like when they were kids, Xiaoduan Mom gently pulled Duan Yi away. Duan Shaoheng sprang up from the bed like a carp. Duan Yi immediately played the victim, “I wasn’t even hitting him that hard!”

Xiaoduan Mom smiled warmly. “I know. You and your brother are close.”

Duan Yi’s anger subsided halfway when he saw the plate of fruit in her hand. “Ah, I want some.”

Xiaoduan Mom fed him a piece, then turned to see Duan Shaoheng hunched over the desk, peering at Duan Yi’s winter break homework.

Compared to Duan Yi, Duan Shaoheng was a true dropout of the nine-year compulsory education system. His academic peak was kindergarten, and his political zenith was being a Young Pioneer. After failing to get into high school, he proudly announced his plans to conquer the entertainment industry, waving a middle school entrance exam paper with a score of 250.

After a brutal beating from Xiaoduan Dad, he limped to South Korea to become a trainee. His naturally striking looks earned him a dedicated fan base even before his debut.

He debuted at sixteen and became a pan-Asian sensation by eighteen. Two years ago, he returned to China to pursue acting, but his old habits persisted: all style, no substance. After starring in a few idol dramas, his hate fans exploded, unleashing a bloody storm in the Chinese entertainment industry.

Now, searching “Duan Shaoheng” online yields nothing but “Duan Shaoheng’s Nonsense” and “Epic Fails.” Even his younger brother, Duan Yi, was too embarrassed to admit they were related.

So, after struggling through Duan Yi’s high school Chinese exam and realizing he didn’t recognize three words in the first line, Duan Shaoheng abandoned his grand dream of tutoring his brother.

He turned to ask, “When are we going to Aunt’s wedding?”

Xiaoduan Mom’s stylist had already arrived downstairs, and Duan Shaoheng’s personal makeup artist was also waiting. Judging by Duan Ji Huai’s plans, they would likely leave around noon.

Duan Shaoheng insisted on applying eyeliner to Duan Yi, calling it “the Duan Shaoheng look” that countless fans online would kill for. Despite Duan Yi’s vehement refusal, Duan Shaoheng still couldn’t fulfill his wish to apply eyeliner to his newly acquired “younger sister.”

Around one o’clock in the afternoon, Duan Yi arrived at the wedding venue—a church in the Capital’s suburbs, adjacent to a five-star hotel. The ceremony and reception would last from noon until evening, with guests likely staying at the hotel afterward.

Due to Shen Xu’s career in journalism and her previous role as a host on XX Satellite TV, many media personnel attended, including prominent figures in the industry.

Duan Shaoheng was immediately pulled aside by an acquaintance director for a catch-up, leaving Duan Yi standing alone in the grand hall.

He grabbed a plate and headed for the longest table, which appeared to have the most meat dishes, intending to eat his way from one end to the other.

Duan Yi’s white suit had no pockets for his phone, so he simply shoved it into his tailored trousers. The fit was so precise that the rectangular outline of the phone immediately bulged conspicuously.

The venue was filled with teenagers like him, seventeen or eighteen years old, many using his aunt’s wedding as an opportunity to expand their social circles.

But these teens all knew each other, chatting easily as they mingled.

Duan Yi felt awkward. Since his face didn’t scream “I’m Duan Ji Huai’s son,” no one paid him any attention.

His only entertainment was eating from his plate or texting Sheng Yunze to ask if he’d arrived yet. He’d only learned the night before that Sheng Yunze would also be attending his aunt’s wedding—what a coincidence! Duan Yi had been pestering him relentlessly, complaining about how bored he was.

He’d barely started eating when he ran into Zhao Yu, whom he’d met just yesterday.

Today, she was even more elegantly dressed and her makeup was flawless. She greeted Duan Yi with the same warm smile.

Shen Xu, likely worried Duan Yi wouldn’t make friends among the younger guests, had probably asked Zhao Yu to introduce him around.

Duan Yi reluctantly agreed to Aunt’s request and followed Zhao Yu around, introducing himself to the group. He struggled to match names to faces.

He only remembered a few: Zhang Chengfei, the young master of Yaowen Group; Lin Ying, the darling of Shuimu Film and Television; Fan Xiaoman of Jue Ming Construction…

Duan Yi chuckled awkwardly, distributing compliments like a kindergarten teacher handing out cake slices—one piece for each person, no extra helpings.

Zhao Yu and Duan Yi sat together on the sofa while the young socialites lingered. After learning that Duan Yi was Duan Ji Huai’s son, their enthusiasm noticeably increased.

As the conversation flowed, they began discussing matters within their social circle. Duan Yi found the names unfamiliar, likely their friends. Zhao Yu occasionally nodded in agreement.

When the topic shifted to romance, the group teased Zhao Yu and Duan Yi. Zhao Yu interjected, “Don’t spread rumors. Duan Yi has a girlfriend.”

The others glanced at Duan Yi with mock disappointment before changing the subject to Sheng Yunze.

Duan Yi froze at the mention of Sheng Yunze’s name. Hearing it from these socialites left him utterly stunned.

“Sheng Yunze?” Duan Yi blurted out.

Zhang Chengfei of the Yaowen Group spoke up, “By the way, you’re from Hang City, right? Did you go to the same school as Sheng Yunze?”

Duan Yi was now certain they were talking about the Sheng Yunze he knew.

We didn’t just go to the same school, he thought, we were even in the same class!

Zhang Chengfei continued, “Didn’t I hear that he and his sister were going back to Beijing for the New Year?”

“Do you know him?” Duan Yi asked.

Lin Ying chuckled. “I heard about them in elementary school. They were always the ‘other kids’—a total childhood nightmare. Their grades were ridiculously good. Just mentioning their names would make us tremble. But they moved south in middle school. I haven’t seen them in years.”

Duan Yi understood now.

He remembered that Sheng Yunze’s family had some influence, but after getting married, they hadn’t stayed with the main family. Instead, they lived separately.

On the rare occasions Duan Yi visited the Sheng family, he recalled the traditional courtyard house—a luxurious yet understated estate that exuded the air of an old aristocratic family, “We’re noble, but we’re discreet.”

What exactly did they do…?

Duan Yi racked his brain but couldn’t quite remember.

His phone buzzed. Duan Yi guessed Sheng Yunze had arrived. He turned to Zhao Yu, gave her a quick nod, and hurried out of the church.

Zhao Yu sighed, but before she could speak, Duan Yi had already turned his back and headed for the door.

He hadn’t even reached the entrance when someone grabbed his leg.

The familiar sensation needed no thought. Duan Yi instinctively scooped up Sheng Xi, who planted a loud kiss on his cheek. Duan Yi’s boredom from the day vanished instantly. “Did you miss me?”

Sheng Xi pouted. “You lied! You promised you’d visit us soon!”

He added emphatically, “I missed you every single day! I was just thinking about you! Brother doesn’t miss you as much as I do, and neither does Dad!”

Sheng Yunze shamelessly interrupted, “I miss you more! I’m an adult, and adults have bigger heads, so we can hold more thoughts.”

Sheng Xi suddenly found himself speechless, unable to refute this logic.

The old fox is still the wiliest.

Duan Yi chuckled heartily, declaring without a hint of shame, “Plans change! But look, I’m here now, aren’t I?”

Sheng Yunze was still holding the other twin’s hand.

Both boys wore identical miniature suits, the smaller one looking particularly adorable.

After holding him for a moment, Duan Yi bounced Sheng Xi in his arms and grumbled, “Have you gained weight again? Has your dad been secretly feeding you snacks?”

Sheng Xi grinned mischievously and shook his head. “No!”

Duan Yi turned to Sheng Yunze, who had approached him, and chuckled, “You’re quite famous in Beijing! I can’t meet anyone without hearing your name.”

Sheng Yunxi suddenly popped out from behind Sheng Yunze, grabbed Duan Yi’s hand, and exclaimed excitedly, “Duan Bao! We meet again!”

Duan Yi was surprised. “You two came together?”

He immediately realized he’d asked a stupid question and felt a little embarrassed.

Sheng Yunxi glanced at Duan Yi and asked, “So these two kids are your relatives?”

Duan Yi nodded without a flicker of hesitation, lying smoothly, “Yep! They look just like you two, right? I was shocked when I first saw them.”

Sheng Yunxi gave Sheng Yunze a cryptic look. “I won’t intrude on your family reunion. Bye-bye.”

Then, she swept out of the banquet hall, her pale yellow gown trailing behind her.

Duan Yi watched her retreating figure. “Something about the color of her dress feels off. It makes me want to burst into song.”

Sheng Yunze retorted dryly, “Your jokes are outdated.”

Duan Yi gaped. “You have no sense of humor!”

He and Sheng Yunze had barely reunited before they had to part again. Sheng Yunze had other commitments, and Duan Yi, remembering his family’s circumstances, immediately understood. He quickly gathered Sheng Ming and Sheng Xi, promising to meet Sheng Yunze in fifteen minutes.

The twins were hungry and pestered Duan Yi for food. He prepared something for them but didn’t eat himself.

He’d overindulged in sweet cakes and raw seafood at the table earlier, feeling uncomfortably full and nauseous. The mere sight of seafood made him want to vomit, so he focused on peeling shrimp for the children.

Sheng Ming and Sheng Xi were still hungry when an awkward incident disrupted the wedding banquet.

A wealthy man’s mistress stormed into the venue, claiming to be pregnant and confronting his wife in front of everyone.

Duan Yi felt a surge of anger. This is my aunt’s wedding! What kind of stunt is this?

Before he could move closer, he heard the mistress’s shrill curses.

Whispers rippled through the crowd, reaching his ears. The mistress, it seemed, was a popular online influencer with a large following. Today’s outburst was a desperate attempt to burn bridges and make things difficult for the wealthy man’s family.

Gradually, a circle of onlookers formed around the trio.

Duan Yi had no intention of watching the spectacle, but the shrinking crowd forced him closer to the center.

Just as Xiaoduan Mom and the others were inside trying to break up the fight, Duan Yi decided to carry Sheng Xi and pull Sheng Ming along with him into the crowd.

But the crowd was too dense. Sheng Ming’s hand was instantly squeezed out of Duan Yi’s grasp. Duan Yi panicked and shouted, “Make way! Don’t push my son!”

Fortunately, no one heard him. Sheng Ming turned and clung to Duan Yi’s arm. Duan Yi quickly called out to Xiaoduan Mom, “Mom! Give me a hand!”

Without hesitation, Xiaoduan Mom spotted her son in the crowd and immediately took the child from Duan Yi’s arms. She paused, momentarily taken aback.

Sheng Ming bore a striking resemblance to Duan Yi. Xiaoduan Mom gave the boy a strange look, a peculiar, indescribable feeling stirring within her.

Duan Yi emerged from the crowd, still holding Sheng Xi. “Where’s Aunt?” he asked urgently.

“I’ve already called security,” Xiaoduan Mom replied. “You sit down and rest. Where were you earlier? Your aunt said she introduced you to a girlfriend?”

Duan Yi answered calmly, “Aunt’s just teasing. You know how she is.”

As he spoke, his heart pounded with anxiety.

Sheng Ming and Sheng Xi were well-behaved and remained silent, but Xiaoduan Mom’s gaze had already swept over the children several times.

Duan Yi figured she’d interrogate him as soon as the commotion died down.

He’d prepared his explanation, “They’re the children of relatives of my classmate, Sheng Yunze—you remember him from his visit last time, right?”

Xiaoduan Mom nodded hesitantly. “I think so… he seemed…”

Duan Yi blushed slightly. “We’re… dating. He’s here for Aunt’s wedding too. He’s from the Sheng Family.”

Xiaoduan Mom’s eyes widened in realization. “Ah, I see…”

No sooner had they spoken of the devil than he appeared.

The commotion had drawn Sheng Yunze over. He spotted Duan Yi first, then Xiaoduan Mom.

“Hello, Auntie,” Sheng Yunze greeted her.

Xiaoduan Mom, who genuinely liked Sheng Yunze, beamed and accepted his greeting warmly.

Duan Yi breathed a sigh of relief, cradling Sheng Xi in his arms as he watched Xiaoduan Mom and Sheng Yunze engage in casual conversation.

Nearby, Duan Ji Huai and Zhao Xinchuan, exhausted after dealing with the troublemakers, walked and talked.

Zhao Xinchuan sighed helplessly. “Brother-in-law, did you see that? That little internet celebrity who caused the scene earlier—she doesn’t even look eighteen yet. To pull something like that at such a young age…”

Duan Ji Huai disapproved of the young woman’s actions, but he found the male partner in the situation even more distasteful.

“I heard his girlfriend already had a son for him,” Zhao Xinchuan continued. “She still couldn’t marry into his family. She only started causing trouble after getting pregnant again. It’s just…” He shook his head in exasperation, showing remarkable patience. “It certainly added a dramatic twist to my wedding.”

“Kids these days, who knows what they’re thinking?” Zhao Xinchuan deliberately flattered his brother-in-law, immediately praising Duan Shaoheng for his youthful success. Having already complimented Duan Ji Huai’s eldest son, he now turned to the younger one. “Duan Yi’s final exam scores improved so much this time. You must be so relieved.”

As he spoke, he added casually, “My sister’s son started dating in middle school and nearly got someone pregnant. Xiaoduan is so much more sensible—he doesn’t rush into romance.”

He stopped abruptly when he reached the word “love.”

Duan Ji Huai suddenly halted, his expression peculiar as he stared ahead.

Zhao Xinchuan followed his gaze. First, he saw Xiaoduan Mom, then Duan Yi, and finally the child Duan Yi was holding—Sheng Xi.

There wasn’t just one child; another stood on the ground, clinging to Xiaoduan Mom and acting affectionately.

Zhao Xinchuan shifted his gaze to the right.

He saw Sheng Yunze and froze.

After a moment, he asked Duan Ji Huai, “Brother-in-law, who is this young man…?”

He was referring to Sheng Yunze.

Though reluctant to admit it, Duan Ji Huai replied, “Duan Yi’s boyfriend.”

Zhao Xinchuan, who had just praised Duan Yi for being sensible and not getting into early romances, was speechless.

Wait a minute… Zhao Xinchuan suddenly realized something.

After all, Sheng Ming and Sheng Xi didn’t resemble Duan Yi at all. They looked exactly like Sheng Yunze—so much so that the three of them could have been triplets! It was clear they shared some blood relation with Sheng Yunze.

Then why were these twin children so close to Duan Ji Huai’s wife and son?

Zhao Xinchuan stiffened momentarily. “Brother-in-law,” he asked, “what about these twins…?”

“Who the hell are they?” Zhao Xinchuan thought, utterly bewildered.

Duan Yi, his boyfriend, and two children who looked remarkably like his boyfriend… This setup looked suspiciously like Duan Yi’s own family!

Duan Yi is an Alpha, right? They can’t have kids, can they? Zhao Xinchuan immediately wondered if these children might be his brother-in-law’s grandchildren.

Duan Ji Huai had clearly noticed the same thing, and his mood darkened. He forced out a sentence through gritted teeth, “I’d like to know who they are too.”

Zhao Xinchuan gave an awkward laugh. “Maybe… we should ask Xiaoduan?”

Duan Ji Huai felt his blood pressure rising.

Before they could approach, they saw Sheng Xi hand Duan Yi a glass of lemonade. Duan Yi didn’t want to drink it, but he couldn’t resist his son’s insistence on feeding him. After one sip, he felt a sharp discomfort.

The sour taste hit his stomach, worsening his nausea. He clapped a hand over his mouth and dry-heaved.

Sheng Yunze noticed Duan Yi’s distress and patted his back. He called out a question from a distance, and Duan Yi shook his head. Their intimate gestures spoke volumes.

Duan Ji Huai’s advancing foot froze mid-step.

Zhao Xinchuan’s face had turned ashen. He glanced at Duan Ji Huai and whispered, “Brother-in-law… still want to ask?” He swallowed hard. “If the kids are young, I wouldn’t recommend hitting them. You know, in case… you kill two birds with one stone…”

Duan Ji Huai crushed his glasses in his hand and slowly spat out a single word, “…Fuck.”
