What's Wrong with This Alpha? - Chapter 7
Chapter 7 – The Eastern District’s Crown Prince
Jiang Wangshu touched his chin and studied Duan Yi’s ID photo, now pinned on the school badge. “Xiaoduan…”
Duan Yi’s face showed no emotion. “Don’t ask anything.”
Jiang Wangshu: “You think…”
Duan Yi’s face remained blank. “Don’t say anything.”
Jiang Wangshu: “I think…”
Duan Yi: “I don’t want your thoughts. I want mine.”
Jiang Wangshu changed his posture, resting his chin in his hand. “Then do you think your photo looks like half of a wedding photo cut and pasted onto the school card?”
Not “looks like”, it was clearly “is”!
Duan Yi: “This is a mistake. Don’t ask anymore.”
Jiang Wangshu shrugged, pulled out Mrs. Taitai Oral Solution, took a sip, and offered it to Duan Yi. “Want some?”
“What does it do?” Duan Yi asked.
Jiang Wangshu: “Nothing. I just think it tastes good. I also have a blue-cap Zhongguai. Want that?”
He thought for a moment, “I think it can treat age spots, insomnia, and postpartum disorders like yours.”
Duan Yi kicked him away. “Go buy Brain Platinum instead!”
On weekends, Second High School was off. The dorms erupted in wild celebrations.
Those going to internet cafés, playing basketball, or hitting on girls all rushed out of school like zombies fleeing a city.
Duan Yi canceled his Saturday plans. He took his mom’s scheduled appointment with a therapist and walked to Second Hospital, feeling nervous.
He wanted to ask the doctor about hearing a system voice in his head.
In just one week since school started, he’d heard it twice. Both times, it made him do things against his will, and both involved Sheng Yunze.
Was this from the car accident? Or from… whatever happened when he crossed over?
Still confused, Duan Yi checked his phone and stood outside the gynecology department.
Huh?
Gynecology?
Dial tone…
Duan Yi quickly called his mom, “Hey, Mom, did you give me the wrong address?”
Mom was playing mahjong, “No, the doctor gave me this address. Knock! Ah, I need that tile.”
Duan Yi pulled the phone away, shocked.
Your son’s in serious trouble, and you’re playing mahjong?
“Hello. Are you Duan Yi?”
Duan Yi was about to curse when a nurse stopped him.
“Yes.” He hung up.
The nurse said, “Follow me.”
Duan Yi sighed in relief. This must be the person coming to help him.
The doctor at the gynecology clinic said, “Welcome.”
Huh?
Duan Yi looked up and saw a smiling face that was human but had a beast’s heart. The black-haired doctor looked a bit like a person and a bit like a dog, and was a little handsome.
He saw the doctor’s name tag: He.
“Duan Yi, Duan, your mom said you have some hearing problems?”
Duan Yi asked first, “Are you a psychologist?”
Dr. He said, “Yes, I’m a real one.”
Duan Yi asked again, “Then why are you working at the gynecology clinic?”
Dr. He smiled, “Psychology is just a side job. My main job is as a proud obstetrics and gynecology chief.”
Duan Yi took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
Dr. He said, “Of course, I’ve already gotten my psychology license. May blessings be upon you. Now, patient, you can explain why you’re here and what you want.”
“Do you still believe in Buddha?”
Dr. He said calmly, “A little bit.”
Duan Yi, feeling like he had nothing to lose, decided to tell the truth. He explained how he heard voices in his head and how his body moved toward Sheng Yunze without his control.
Dr. He listened, frowning.
Duan Yi asked carefully, “Dr. He, what do you think?”
Dr. He’s frown smoothed out. He quickly sat up straight. “Oh, it’s nothing. Here’s what happened after I heard your story…”
Duan Yi blinked at him.
Dr. He said kindly, “I suggest the patient see a psychiatrist.”
Duan Yi asked, “Do you mind if I report you for using women’s clinic resources to make extra money?”
Dr. He quickly responded, “I thought about it and there might be a way to fix this. I suddenly remembered another good treatment method.”
Duan Yi listened carefully. “Please explain, Dr. He.”
Dr. He said mysteriously, “The male classmate you mentioned…”
He paused. “Do you like him? Is that why you keep getting close?”
Duan Yi jumped up!
His face turned red and then white, both embarrassed and angry.
Liking Sheng Yunze?
He didn’t want to like Sheng Yunze. If he had the willpower, why not take the exams for Tsinghua or Peking University instead of liking Sheng Yunze?
Dr. He saw the mark on the back of Duan Yi’s neck and said in surprise, “You already have a mark?”
Duan Yi touched the back of his neck and suddenly sat down again. “Yes. Do you have any way to remove the mark?”
Dr. He looked at Duan Yi’s medical records. “You’re an Alpha? How can an Alpha be marked?”
Duan Yi said, “I—”
He didn’t know how to explain his time travel. The doctor wouldn’t believe him anyway, so he said vaguely, “Because of some strange, idealistic events, I changed from A to O and got marked. That’s how it happened.”
Dr. He: “From A to O?”
Duan Yi nervously asked, “Hard to believe, right? Can it be treated? Is this case rare?”
Dr. He said confidently, “I’ve seen cases like this before. Don’t worry, I have experience.”
So, he does have some clinical experience, Duan Yi thought.
After examining him for a while, Duan Yi still didn’t understand why he was hearing things. But he did learn one thing.
According to Dr. He’s advice, he needed Sheng Yunze’s pheromones. Without Alpha’s pheromones to calm him, Duan Yi’s body would slowly break down.
At first, it might be anemia, weak limbs, and vomiting. Later, it could lead to shock, pseudo-death, or even real death.
Duan Yi touched the back of his neck. The mark from that world’s Sheng Yunze was slowly fading. Within a month, he needed Sheng Yunze to bite him again to get through his heat period and balance his hormones, preventing organ failure.
He sighed deeply.
But the Sheng Yunze in real life had nothing to do with him. Now, for various reasons, Sheng Yunze even hated him.
Forget about biting him, even borrowing some pheromones would be hard.
What should he do?
Duan Yi worried.
In a narrow alley, dark clouds loomed.
Duan Yi walked absentmindedly. Looking up, he found himself in the middle of the road, with two groups of people on both sides, holding sticks and bricks, ready to fight.
He was standing right between them.
He recognized some in one group: Jiang Wangshu, Zhao Lai, Yue Chengyang, Nan Yi, Sheng Yunze…
Eh? Duan Yi was surprised. Why was Sheng Yunze here?
Damn, why was Nan Yi here too?
“Idiot! Why are you standing in the middle?!”
A student wearing Seventh High School’s uniform pointed at Duan Yi and yelled.
Jiang Wangshu pulled Duan Yi to their side. Duan Yi, who had fought in gangs for years, quickly got ready. “You set up a fight? Why?”
“Taking over territory!” Jiang Wangshu said through clenched teeth.
Everyone turned to look at the right. A black internet café called “Yi Jian Café” appeared before them.
Yi Jian Café was between Second High School and Seventh High School. It was the only café that didn’t ask for ID from minors, truly letting everyone use the internet and be equal.
On Springfield Street, where most weekend students gathered, space was limited. The small street couldn’t handle many people. Usually, when students skipped class to surf the web, the internet café could manage. But during holidays, with too many students, there weren’t enough spots. Plus, since they didn’t check IDs, someone could lose their spot if they just went out to pee. This caused endless fights between students.
Students from Second High School and Seventh High School had hated each other for a long time. Weekend fights were common.
Duan Yi asked Sheng Yunze, “What are you doing here?”
Jiang Wangshu answered for him, “Commander Sheng was enjoying a nice afternoon tea at the rice noodle shop next to the café. He got caught up in the fight. Okay, really it’s just that Seventh High’s idiot saw we were all wearing school uniforms and thought we were friends.”
Sheng Yunze stared at him with a blank face.
Duan Yi: ……
Nan Yi grabbed Duan Yi’s face and asked quickly, “Why didn’t you ask me?”
Duan Yi: “Are you surprised to be here? We used this café for three years of middle school. Or do you think the legal adult age in other countries is 17? You can go to other cafés now.”
Nan Yi had the popular “little puppy” look, with a stubborn pout that wasn’t annoying. He looked very unhappy.
But “three years of middle school” comforted him, so he let Duan Yi off.
“Can you fight?” Duan Yi turned, asking Sheng Yunze without any hope in his voice.
“I can set a timer,” Sheng Yunze replied, his voice flat and sarcastic.
He seemed a bit upset—Duan Yi had a strange feeling about this.
“Fine, I won’t ask,” Duan Yi said. He turned, moved his shoulders, and looked at the Seventh High School leader. “Who called who a dumbass? Do you know who I am? Do you know who protects this area?”
Springfield Street, located in Hang City’s East District.
The Seventh High School leader was startled by Duan Yi’s bold words. He quickly asked, “Who are you?”
Duan Yi smiled coldly. “The East District’s crown prince. Heard of me?”
It sounded very impressive.
Jiang Wangshu looked at him, confused. “When did you get such a cool nickname?”
“I made it up now. How is it? Impressive?”
Jiang Wangshu thought for a moment. “Not bad.”
The Seventh High School leader seemed scared. He looked at Sheng Yunze.
Duan Yi’s words were fierce, but he looked cute and young—like he wasn’t even fifteen. He didn’t seem very threatening.
Sheng Yunze, on the other hand, was tall and handsome. His face was dark, and he looked tired. He had the face of a standard male lead from a school novel—the type who could beat up old people’s homes in the south and kick kids’ heads in the north. No matter how you looked at him, he was clearly a dangerous person who didn’t show it.
The Seventh High School leader kept an eye out and asked, “What about you? Who are you?”
Jiang Wangshu made a “stop” gesture at Sheng Yunze and said grandly, “Commander Sheng, no need to speak. I’ll handle this.”
He pointed at Sheng Yunze and announced dramatically, “East District—Crown Princess!”
“Your sister’s princess!” Duan Yi’s angry shout came at the same time.
Jiang Wangshu showed a look of calm understanding and sudden realization. He slowly added, “—former.”
One word.
Duan Yi broke down. What the hell is this pig team? This isn’t a “former” or “not former” problem! Sheng Yunze’s expression is cold enough to kill someone, okay?!
He covered his face hard.
The Seventh High School leader got excited and looked at Jiang Wangshu. “What about you?”
Jiang Wangshu thought a bit. “Crown… consort? Dowry? Concubine?”
The Seventh High School leader looked at Nan Yi.
Jiang Wangshu said deeply, “East District’s Crown Prince’s abandoned wife.”
Nan Yi: ……
Duan Yi couldn’t take it anymore. If you’re going to fight, just fight! Don’t give me this slow torture!
The Seventh High School leader finished checking them out and went crazy. “You’re all crazy!”
Once wasn’t enough. He said it again, shouting in a breakdown, “You’re all crazy!!!”
Duan Yi: ……
The Seventh High School leader made a small adjustment and then said, “Crown Prince? What’s that?” He said, “Then I’m the Emperor of the East District!”
“Shit, you want to be my dad? You’re looking to die!”
Duan Yi was furious. He didn’t say anything else and started fighting.
Jiang Wangshu rolled up his sleeves. “Being Xiaouan’s dad is one thing, but you want to be our school beauty’s father-in-law? You’re looking to die!”
He charged forward, then took two steps back and explained, “School beauty means Commander Sheng.”
Sheng Yunze was cold and elegant. “If you want to die by your own people’s hands, just say so. We’ll give you a coffin for free.”
Jiang Wangshu quickly bowed in apology, then rushed into the circle.
Duan Yi noticed that Sheng Yunze wasn’t just handsome and good at schoolwork, but he could also fight. And he was really good at fighting.
This went against everything he knew.
He’d lived with Sheng Yunze for over ten years, but the other had never shown such a fierce side before.
This meant Sheng Yunze was really upset today?
Duan Yi kept watching him, feeling a bit like a lovesick fool.
Wow, my husband fighting is so cool!
Long legs, flexible waist, handsome face… Huh? Why is he getting closer?
Sheng Yunze grabbed Duan Yi’s face. Duan Yi’s slightly chubby cheeks were squished together, his mouth turning into an O shape.
His round cat-like eyes stared at him, blinking in surprise.
“Done looking?” Sheng Yunze asked.
Duan Yi jumped back. “Pah! Pah! Pah! Don’t get ahead of yourself! Who are you looking at? I was looking at—”
He wanted to say Jiang Wangshu, but that useless guy had been knocked down as soon as he entered, lying on the ground like a corpse.
He changed his words, “I was looking at Nan Yi, okay!”
Sheng Yunze’s face got even darker.
Duan Yi didn’t notice at all.
