Chapter 56 – Dating

“I don’t care! Your school owes me an explanation!”

Duan Yi had just reached the office door when a woman’s shrill, piercing scream erupted from within.

His hand, poised on the doorknob, froze. Before he could push the door open, another hand seized his.

He looked up to see Sheng Yunze.

“Wait…” Sheng Yunze dragged Duan Yi to the stairwell, half-pulling him along.

Once Duan Yi regained his footing, he said, “Old He told me to find him in the Political Education Office…”

Sheng Yunze stood ramrod straight, his voice steady and calm. At a moment when Duan Yi’s heart was pounding with anxiety, Sheng Yunze’s composure acted like a shot of adrenaline, injecting calm into his body.

Sheng Yunze took Duan Yi’s hand and interlaced their fingers.

“Xu Liang’s relatives are in the Political Education Office right now,” Sheng Yunze said. His innate aloofness, which usually kept people at arm’s length, now brought Duan Yi a strange sense of security. Duan Yi quickly pieced together the situation. “His family situation is complicated. His father’s in prison, and his mother remarried. The people in the office are his aunt and uncle.”

Duan Yi stared in astonishment. “How do you know all this?”

“You don’t need to ask,” Sheng Yunze said. After a pause, he continued, “Xu Liang’s aunt owns an illegal mahjong parlor. She converted a residential house into a gambling den and has two children—a daughter and a son. Her eldest daughter attends vocational high school, while her younger son is still in junior high. Judging by his grades, he won’t be able to get into a regular high school.”

Duan Yi didn’t ask any further questions, simply listening quietly.

“His aunt and uncle are the most troublesome kind of petty villains,” Sheng Yunze warned. “They’ll use tactics you can’t even imagine—and ones far more despicable than you’d expect. What were you thinking, just walking in there like that?”

Duan Yi replied matter-of-factly, “I was just going to tell the truth. I didn’t give Scar that scar.”

But in a society where black could be twisted into white through public opinion, evidence was the only thing that mattered.

Feeling a little guilty, Duan Yi looked at Sheng Yunze. “Do you believe me? I really didn’t give Scar that scar.”

“I do,” Sheng Yunze said.

Duan Yi breathed a sigh of relief.

Sheng Yunze added calmly, “I have more faith in my own abilities. If you’re still running around picking fights tomorrow, I’ll have to admit I’m useless.”

Duan Yi stared in disbelief. “Hey! I’m not that useless! Besides, did anything actually…”

He mumbled something, not finishing his sentence, but his face flushed.

Duan Yi asked, “Did you investigate Scar?”

Sheng Yunze replied, “It’s not hard to ask around. Were you just going to wait for him to smear your name?”

Duan Yi’s last shred of anxiety vanished. He regained his blind faith in Sheng Yunze.

Sheng Yunze had always been mature for his age—reliable and in control. Though still young, Duan Yi, who had lived with him for over a decade, had developed a severe dependence on him.

Take the Scar incident, for example. Duan Yi hadn’t worried about the situation escalating, confident that Sheng Yunze would handle it. This ingrained habit, nurtured over years of reliance, was what people called being “spoiled rotten.”

They were different. Duan Yi couldn’t fathom how Sheng Yunze’s mind worked, but no matter how dire the situation, Sheng Yunze always resolved it with effortless ease.

His boyfriend seemed to have access to God’s-eye view.

“You’ll help me, right?” Duan Yi stared at Sheng Yunze with sincere eyes.

Sheng Yunze asked him, “If I don’t help you, what’s your plan?”

Duan Yi replied, “I haven’t thought it through. But I won’t admit it. They can’t prove anything.”

“Everything requires evidence. Where’s yours?”

“I don’t have any.”

Sheng Yunze fell silent for a moment, then said, “If you just admit you’re an Omega, this will be over quickly.”

Duan Yi rejected the suggestion without hesitation. “Impossible.”

Sheng Yunze didn’t ask why.

Duan Yi didn’t offer an explanation.

But both understood perfectly well.

Sheng Yunze couldn’t change Duan Yi’s mind.

The main reason Duan Yi refused to admit he was an Omega was the lifelong mark Sheng Yunze had given him.

If a hospital examination revealed it, Second High School would almost certainly expel him.

While Sheng Yunze’s outstanding grades might earn him some leniency, Duan Yi would have no room for negotiation.

Even if Sheng Yunze avoided expulsion, disciplinary action was inevitable. At the very least, his chances of receiving a recommendation quota for third year were gone.

Sheng Yunze didn’t care about that.

But Duan Yi did.

Duan Yi’s decision stemmed from his concern for Sheng Yunze, and Sheng Yunze wouldn’t argue with him about it.

He cared deeply for Duan Yi and understood his desperate need to protect himself.

However, Sheng Yunze had one crucial advantage over Duan Yi: his higher intelligence.

The trouble Duan Yi had gotten into, the things he wanted to do—everything remained within Sheng Yunze’s control.

No major chaos would erupt. The best course of action was for Duan Yi to simply admit he was an Omega.

If Duan Yi chose otherwise, Sheng Yunze had another plan ready.

It would just be more difficult and complicated.

“I understand,” Sheng Yunze said.

Duan Yi was about to ask him something when the shrill shouting from the Political Education Office grew louder, accompanied by the sound of overturned desks and chairs.

“I’m going in with you,” Sheng Yunze declared.

“What? Why would you get involved? This has nothing to do with you,” Duan Yi protested.

“Stop asking so many questions. Open the door.”

Duan Yi secretly didn’t want Sheng Yunze to leave. So when Sheng Yunze offered to stay, he feigned reluctance. “Are you sure that’s a good idea…?”

Sheng Yunze deliberately turned cold. “Then I’m leaving.”

“Sorry, Gege! Pretend I didn’t say that. Please, come in!” Duan Yi immediately grabbed his arm to stop him.

Xu Huifang, Xu Liang’s aunt, burst into the office, hands on her hips, spitting furiously.

“I don’t care! If you don’t hand over the little brat who beat up my nephew today, I’m not leaving! This school owes me an explanation. My nephew was studying peacefully here, and now he’s been beaten for no reason! If you can’t resolve this, I’ll report you to the Education Bureau! There’s always someone who can handle you!”

Old He poured her a cup of tea. “Mrs. Xu, the school will definitely investigate this matter. Once the other student’s parents arrive, we can sit down and get to the bottom of it.”

Besides Xu Huifang and her husband, a chubby boy who looked around twelve or thirteen years old sat in the office chair, playing with Old He’s potted plants while munching loudly on a bag of potato chips. Crumbs littered the floor.

This was Xu Huifang’s precious son, Xu Xiaochao.

Duan Yi frowned, clearly puzzled as to why Xu Huifang had brought her son along.

Xu Huifang was a stout woman with a thick waist, wearing a black dress that made her resemble a round barrel.

Her lung capacity was impressive, her voice booming with force, and her spittle flew everywhere. Old He had to wipe his glasses several times.

Xu Huifang’s husband was a shrewd-looking middle-aged man with beady eyes and a face that made Duan Yi feel uneasy. He wore a suit, his leather shoes polished to a gleaming shine, and carried a briefcase. Duan Yi noticed a watch on his wrist worth over two thousand yuan. The man kept glancing at it, seemingly more interested in showing it off than checking the time.

As soon as Duan Yi entered, the man answered his phone and walked to the window, speaking loudly enough for everyone to hear. He flashed a set of teeth stained yellow from smoking.

“Hey… Yeah, did you finalize that two-hundred-thousand-yuan deal with Manager Zhang? Right, I need it by tomorrow. What’s that amount anyway? Hmm… I’ll transfer another five hundred thousand yuan to you afterward. Just secure it, okay?”

While talking on the phone, he turned to Old He and said, “Excuse me, Teacher He, I need to take this call.”

Old He gave an awkward smile. “No problem. Would you like some tea?”

Xu Huifang’s husband chuckled. “I’m not used to tea from outside. This isn’t Longjing Tea, is it? I only drink freshly picked Longjing. One of my brothers is the chairman of the Hangzhou Chamber of Commerce. Last time we had tea at Nine Creeks—the tea was exceptional! Now other teas just don’t taste right. Heh, Teacher He, I hope you don’t mind me saying so!”

Old He waved his hand. “It’s nothing. The school provides our tea—it can’t compare to what you entrepreneurs drink.”

The word “entrepreneur” pleased Xu Huifang’s husband. His smile became more genuine, as if he wanted to claim Old He as a kindred spirit.

Duan Yi’s timely arrival diffused Old He’s awkwardness. “Teacher He!” he called out.

Old He sighed with relief. “Duan Yi, explain what happened.”

Xu Huifang and her husband turned their gazes to Duan Yi.

Duan Yi didn’t bother with formalities like “Uncle” or “Auntie.” He stated bluntly, “I didn’t hit Xu Liang.”

“How dare you speak like that, young man?” Xu Huifang’s husband snapped. “If you didn’t hit him, did Xu Liang put himself in the hospital?”

His eyes fell on Duan Yi’s wrist, pausing slightly at the sight of his wristwatch.

“Anyway, it wasn’t me,” Duan Yi said calmly.

Xu Huifang and her husband were infuriated by Duan Yi’s attitude. Without another word, they lunged forward to grab his collar.

But before they could reach him, Sheng Yunze twisted their wrists to stop them.

Xu Huifang glared at Sheng Yunze. “Who are you?”

Old He added, “What are you doing here?”

Sheng Yunze released Duan Yi’s arm. “Teacher He, Duan Yi was with me the entire day Xu Liang was attacked. If you don’t believe me, ask Jiang Wangshu and the others in Class One of the third year. Every student in that class can vouch for him.”

Before he could finish, Xu Huifang retorted, “So he could have hired someone to beat up my nephew! Do you think he’s stupid enough to do it himself?”

Her logic was utterly absurd.

Xu Huifang, growing increasingly convinced of her own reasoning, declared smugly, “Auntie’s eaten more rice than you’ve eaten salt! I’ve seen through tricks like this a hundred times!”

Sheng Yunze said coldly, “If you believe Duan Yi hired someone to attack your nephew, report it to the police. What’s the point of causing a scene at the school?”

Xu Huifang’s husband snapped, “How dare you speak like that? What do you mean by ‘causing a scene’? My nephew was studying peacefully here, and then he gets beaten up! Who’s responsible if not your school?”

He glared at Principal He. “Is this how you teach your students? No respect for elders?”

Duan Yi was speechless, finally witnessing the boundless audacity of shamelessness.

Sheng Yunze concluded, “Whether you’re here for Xu Liang or to extort a hefty compensation, only you know the truth.”

Xu Huifang’s expression shifted slightly, a mix of embarrassment at being exposed and anger at being caught out. Raising her voice to drown out Sheng Yunze, she demanded, “Who do you think you are?!”

Sheng Yunze calmly explained, “Xu Liang’s biological mother remarried, and his biological father is in prison. However, his mother still retains guardianship. Even if there’s compensation, it won’t go to you.”

Xu Huifang and her husband exchanged hesitant glances. Old He instantly understood the situation, momentarily at a loss for words to describe the couple.

Xu Huifang retorted, “I’m my brother’s younger sister and Xu Liang’s biological aunt! That deadbeat mother hasn’t cared for him since she remarried. He eats my food and wears my clothes—why shouldn’t I be his guardian? You hit him, you pay our family! And don’t think your school can wriggle out of this easily either!”

Old He tried to reason, “Xu Liang’s guardian, if Duan Yi truly injured him, we’ll handle it according to the school’s standard procedures…”

“Standard procedures?! I don’t care about your standard procedures! You’re paying our family, and the school is responsible!” Xu Huifang insisted stubbornly.

Duan Yi interjected with amusement, “Oh? Tell me, how exactly should the school be responsible to your family?”

Xu Huifang: “My nephew’s hospital bills alone are several thousand yuan. Add to that his injuries, both big and small, and the compensation for emotional distress—you owe us three hundred thousand!”

She was asking for the moon.

Old He clicked his tongue in disbelief.

Xu Huifang: “And your school must also take responsibility for my family.” She repeated herself, then pulled her precious son—the Fatty—into the spotlight. “My son will attend Second High School.”

Duan Yi couldn’t help but laugh. “What were your son’s test scores? You think he can just waltz into Second High School?”

Xu Huifang: “Second High School admits people like you! Why not my son?”

Old He flushed with embarrassment, almost speechless. “Xu Liang’s parent, that’s against school policy. If your son wants to attend Second High School, he needs to earn his place through his own academic performance.”

Her son was barely scraping by with two hundred points. Second High School required at least six hundred and twenty. His chances were practically nonexistent.

Duan Yi suddenly understood Xu Huifang’s scheme. No wonder she had brought her son along when demanding compensation—she was planning this all along.

Duan Yi was utterly bewildered. Xu Huifang’s behavior was so outrageous it deserved an award for the most baffling human behavior.

He turned to Sheng Yunze, who whispered, “Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean people like this don’t exist.”

Duan Yi had truly never encountered such an… oddity.

His world was simple. Over the years, Sheng Yunze had shielded him from the harsh realities of life.

Every day, he either painted at home or used his husband’s money to fund art exhibitions. Sheng Yunze had plenty of money to indulge him, just like Xiaoduan Mom. Even at his advanced age, Xiaoduan’s personality remained unchanged from his high school days—forever innocent, romantic, and embracing a youthful spirit.

Duan Yi cleared his throat and smiled faintly. “First, I didn’t hit anyone, so I won’t pay. Even if you bring my parents here, they won’t pay either.”

Xu Huifang glared at Duan Yi, who nonchalantly continued, “Second, do you really think three hundred thousand yuan is a lot?”

He tilted his head in mock confusion. “If I were going to extort someone, I’d demand at least thirty million yuan—enough for a month’s allowance. What can you even do with three hundred thousand?”

Xu Huifang’s face turned ashen. Duan Yi pressed on, “For me, withdrawing three hundred thousand yuan is as easy as taking a sip of water. I could throw it all out the window right now. Want to go pick it up?”

He chuckled. “Just remember to collect each bill individually and count them carefully to make sure I’ve paid enough.”

As Duan Yi spoke, a natural playfulness danced in his tone.

He acted as if he were stating the obvious, but deep down, the arrogance of a privileged young master mercilessly crushed the meager self-esteem of Xu Huifang and her husband, exposing their mediocrity and powerlessness.

Xu Huifang felt as if she had been slapped across the face with humiliation, especially since the one looking down on her was just a greenhorn.

Even her thick skin couldn’t withstand this mockery. Seeing Duan Yi’s tall, lanky frame and recalling his past misdeeds, she dared not confront him directly. Instead, she turned her fury on Old He: “Is this the kind of student your school produces?!”

Duan Yi retorted coldly, “Why are you harassing our teacher? He’s not the one who beat up your son.”

Xu Huifang’s son suddenly stepped beside Duan Yi and demanded, “Let me see your watch.”

His tone was the classic entitlement of a spoiled brat. Duan Yi thought, Who the hell do you think you are, you little shit?

Unexpectedly, Sheng Yunze removed his wristwatch. “This one?”

The chubby boy nodded. “How much?”

Sheng Yunze asked, “You want it?”

The boy pointed at the watch. “Mom, get me this one! Make them pay for it too!”

Xu Huifang softened her tone. “You brat! What’s a watch worth? If you want one, I’ll buy you one at home. Stop hanging around these kids—they’ll corrupt you.”

Xiaobang immediately plopped down on the ground, wailing and kicking. “I want this watch! Get it for me! Or I’ll hit you!”

“You!” Xu Huifang glared.

While Sheng Yunze wasn’t paying attention, Xiaobang snatched his wristwatch and scurried to a corner to examine and fondle it.

Duan Yi’s temper flared, but Sheng Yunze stopped him with a sly glance. Though single-lidded, Sheng Yunze’s large eyes were particularly captivating when he glanced sideways, his eye corners curving like tiny hooks. Duan Yi instantly succumbed to his charm.

Seeing that Duan Yi was unyielding, Xu Huifang abandoned her attempts to discipline him and resumed her demands for compensation from the school.

The conversation somehow drifted to omega pheromone inducers. Xu Huifang seized upon this as the perfect leverage to punish Duan Yi, making a big deal out of the inducer issue.

Duan Yi, bored by her ranting, casually retorted, “Auntie, show us the evidence, then.”

Just then, Duan Ji Huai and Xiaoduan Mom arrived.

After much hesitation, Old He went to the second-year classroom and brought Meng Tian over.

Now, all the key players were present.

Meng Tian remained unchanged from before, still wearing her ponytail, head bowed, timid, and silent, as calm as a stagnant pool. No matter how many stones were thrown in, not a ripple disturbed its surface.

Xiaoduan Mom was delicate and frail, like a dodder flower. The moment she entered the office, Xu Huifang’s husband’s gaze seemed glued to her.

Duan Yixin, feeling guilty, rubbed his nose and called out, “Mom…”

He had caused trouble before, but never on this scale. Beating a classmate into the hospital and secretly possessing an omega pheromone inducer—Xiaoduan Mom had nearly fainted when she heard about it at home.

As soon as she saw Duan Yi, Xiaoduan Mom gently took his hand. “Have you eaten?”

Duan Yi’s heart warmed. “Yes, I have.”

Xiaoduan Mom straightened his school uniform, her doe-like eyes brimming with worry. “You scared me to death.”

“I’m sorry…” Duan Yi whispered.

He looked up at Duan Ji Huai, fully expecting a beating for the mess he had created. Instead, Duan Ji Huai simply asked about Duan Yi’s well-being, just like Xiaoduan Mom, before taking a seat.

Old He and Duan Ji Huai were considered unlikely friends, despite their age difference. Second High School rarely saw such a prominent figure, but when Duan Ji Huai actually visited the school, Old He felt immense pressure.

It wasn’t about personal feelings; he simply couldn’t afford to offend him.

Xu Huifang observed Duan Ji Huai and Xiaoduan Mom, their entire demeanor radiating wealth and influence. Even her slow-witted mind sensed that Duan Yi’s family was not to be trifled with.

The teachers from the Political Education Office underwent a complete about-face, treating Duan Ji Huai with utmost deference. Xu Huifang’s initial anger and arrogance began to dissipate.

She only wanted 300,000 yuan in compensation; she had no desire to provoke serious trouble.

Old He spoke softly, “Meng Tian, please tell us what happened.”

Meng Tian had kept her head lowered throughout, answering every question with “I don’t know.” Her expression remained detached, as if she had no desires or concerns, leaving her thoughts completely unreadable.

With Meng Tian refusing to speak, this line of inquiry had reached a dead end.

Duan Yi still faced accusations of possessing and even using an omega pheromone inducer to induce an Omega’s Heat. If proven true, he would undoubtedly spend three days in juvenile detention.

Seeing Meng Tian’s demeanor, Xu Huifang immediately exclaimed, “Look at her! You’ve scared this poor girl speechless!”

Faced with the temptation of 300,000 yuan in compensation, Xu Huifang’s usually timid courage suddenly surged. She glared at Duan Ji Huai and declared, “Just because you’re rich doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want! If you collude with the school to cover this up, I’ll take you all to the national authorities! I’ll expose you in the news!”

Duan Ji Huai took a sip of tea and calmly replied, “Try it.”

Those were the only three words he had spoken since entering the room, his tone light. Yet Xu Huifang felt a chill run from her head to her toes, nearly losing her balance and collapsing onto the floor.

Duan Ji Huai turned to Duan Yi. “Did you do it?”

“No, I didn’t,” Duan Yi insisted. “I didn’t hide the inducer, and I didn’t hit anyone. Call the police for a forensic examination. If they find even a trace of my fingerprints, I’ll drop out of school and go home right now.”

Xu Huifang’s husband retorted resentfully, “Your family is so wealthy, why would you get your hands dirty? What if you hired someone to beat up my nephew…?”

Sheng Yunze, who had been listening quietly, tilted his head slightly at this remark.

Duan Yi said, “Check the surveillance footage, investigate the people involved, and let the police handle this.”

“No way!” Xu Huifang immediately protested. “Who knows if you’ve already tampered with the surveillance? We’re just ordinary people with no power or money—easy to crush like ants!”

Old He: “I’ve contacted the shop owner nearby. There’s only one surveillance camera on the alley where Xu Liang was beaten, belonging to the karaoke bar across the street. Xu Liang was in a blind spot, so the camera didn’t capture the assault.”

Duan Ji Huai gently rubbed the rim of his cup. He possessed an innate air of authority, and no one in the Political Education Office dared speak without his permission.

Xu Huifang forced herself to say, “Isn’t this because my nephew exposed your secret stash of omega pheromone inducer? Since the camera didn’t record anything, just go to the hospital for a checkup! See if there are any traces of the inducer in your system! If there are, need I say more?”

Duan Yi rejected the suggestion without hesitation. “I won’t go.”

Duan Ji Huai glanced at him, and Xiaoduan Mom followed suit.

Xu Huifang scoffed. “See? See? You’re guilty, aren’t you? You’re guilty! A simple test will prove you used the inducer!”

She collapsed onto a chair with a wail. “My poor brother… my poor nephew… I told him not to be so kind… he never listened… There’s no justice left in this world… no justice…”

The Political Education Office erupted into chaos.

Xu Huifang was prone to both fits of uncontrollable sobbing and sudden threats, often declaring she would “bash her head against the pillar until she died.”

Her outbursts made it impossible for Old He to mediate effectively. The teachers struggled to restrain her, urging her to calm down and stop fixating on self-harm.

Xu Huifang’s stout frame proved difficult to restrain. The teachers strained with all their might, their faces flushed with exertion as they held her back.

Sheng Yunze tapped one of the teachers on the shoulder and coldly instructed, “Let go. Let her hit the pillar.”

The teacher involuntarily released his grip, and Xu Huifang abruptly stopped struggling.

Sheng Yunze’s sharp tongue and cruel nature were on full display. “Why did you stop? Why not bash your head against the wall and die? I’ll even pay you an extra 300,000 yuan.”

Xu Huifang’s face turned ashen. “Are you even human?!” she screamed.

“Are you?” Sheng Yunze retorted. “If you had any shred of decency left, you’d drag your son out of Second High School right now.”

“Enough!” Old He’s voice cut through the tension.

The Political Education Office fell silent. Only then did Old He continue, “We’ve called both sets of parents here today because the school is taking this matter extremely seriously. Omega pheromone inducers are a gray-area substance that has caused irreversible harm to students at Second High School in the past. To prevent such tragedies from recurring, we must work together to nip this in the bud.”

“Meng Tian,” Old He said, “I’m asking you one last time: did you have any contact with Duan Yi…?”

He paused, rephrasing his question. “Have you ever been exposed to an inducer?”

After a long silence, Meng Tian’s voice finally came: “…Yes.”

Old He’s heart leaped. “Who gave it to you?”

Meng Tian twisted the corner of her school uniform. “I don’t know.”

“How could you not know?!” Old He raised his voice. “Meng Tian, you’re old enough to understand the gravity of this. Every word you say could ruin someone’s life. Do you understand?”

Meng Tian’s ponytail swayed gently as her soft, clear voice filled the Political Education Office.

“Teacher He, why don’t you ask me?”

Everyone froze.

Meng Tian gripped her trembling right hand with her left. “Why do you think my life can’t be ruined too?”

The Political Education Office fell so silent you could hear a pin drop.

“Schedule the tests,” Duan Ji Huai ordered, his tone brooking no argument.

“I’m not going!” Duan Yi immediately rebelled against his father.

Xu Huifang’s voice pierced the air, “Why won’t you go? What are you hiding? Do you still have traces of the inducer in your system? You harmed my nephew—are you trying to hurt this innocent little girl too?”

She forced out a few tears and made a show of embracing Meng Tian to comfort her—a tactic she often used to portray herself as the victim.

Meng Tian calmly sidestepped the gesture.

Xu Huifang stood awkwardly, slowly lowering her outstretched hand.

Xiaoduan Mom looked puzzled. “Baby, if you didn’t do it, you didn’t do it. We have nothing to fear. Listen to your father and go to the hospital for a checkup.”

Duan Yi: “I can’t go…”

Duan Ji Huai: “Then give me a valid reason why you can’t.”

Duan Yi: “I…”

“Uncle Duan, Duan Yi can’t go,” Sheng Yunze interjected.

Xu Huifang had just pretended to faint, and Old He and the others were now busy at the other end of the Political Education Office, fussing over her with tea and water.

Duan Ji Huai’s corner remained quiet.

He remembered Sheng Yunze well but couldn’t quite place his role in this situation.

Duan Ji Huai was about to speak when Sheng Yunze casually dropped a bombshell: “Duan Yi and I are dating. He’s an Omega and doesn’t have the agency to use an inducer. Xu Liang forced an inducer on him, which could only trigger his Heat early, not make him attack other Omegas. He can’t go to the hospital for testing because they’d definitely find traces of the inducer.”

After a pause, Sheng Yunze continued, “On the day of his Heat, Duan Yi was with me. He has an alibi.”

Oh, Duan Ji Huai thought. So he’s playing the role of the son-in-law.

Having weathered countless storms in his nearly forty years, Duan Ji Huai remained calm. It’s just my son suddenly becoming a daughter. It’s just early romance.

He lifted his teacup and took a composed sip.

The teacup was still a centimeter from his lips when the tea cascaded down like a three-thousand-foot waterfall, drenching his Italian handmade suit.

Duan Ji Huai maintained his composure, despite not having managed to drink a single drop.

…Damn it.

For the first time in his forty years of impeccable elegance, charm, and domineering CEO demeanor, Xiaoduan Dad swore.
