What's Wrong with This Alpha? - Chapter 55
Chapter 55 – Call Husband
The crowd of students in the hallway grew larger.
Some even secretly pulled out their phones to take photos, managing only blurry shots of Sheng Yunze’s back.
These photos were immediately posted on the school’s online forum.

“?????” Hao Shanshan froze mid-scroll through the forum, clutching her phone in shock.
Jiang Wangshu was thoroughly confused by her sudden outburst. He set down his pen as Hao Shanshan pursed her lips, pointing at her phone with a constipated expression.
Jiang Wangshu raised an eyebrow. “Need to drop a big one?”
Hao Shanshan let out a muffled grunt and mimed a series of Hao Family Fist moves, then jabbed at her phone again.
Jiang Wangshu: “Oh—Wing Chun Ip Man? You want to watch a movie?”
Hao Shanshan shouted, “Secretary Sheng’s fighting! Grade 2 Class 7!”
Her yell jolted the entire class awake.
Duan Yi, hearing Sheng Yunze’s name, reflexively straightened up. “Huh?”
The quiet classroom instantly filled with question marks.
Hao Shanshan slammed her phone on the desk. Jiang Wangshu glanced out the window: no teachers in sight.
Duan Yi: “What fight?”
He was utterly bewildered.
Hao Shanshan pulled up the forum post. Jiang Wangshu glanced at it. “Holy shit, Bao, is that your husband? This isn’t photoshopped, is it?”
Duan Yi: “What the hell?”
He lied to me?!
That was Duan Yi’s first thought.
Before his mind could catch up, his body was already moving. He grabbed a school uniform and bolted out the back door of the classroom.
Jiang Wangshu scrambled after him, yelling at Hao Shanshan, “Cover for me later! Tell them Duan Yi and I went to the infirmary!”
“Hey, when are you two coming back?!” Hao Shanshan called out, but they were already gone.
The classroom remained in stunned silence. Only after Duan Yi had bolted out did the students snap out of it, frantically pulling out their phones to refresh the campus forum.
“Move aside.”
Building C was completely blocked. As Duan Yi descended from the third floor, the corridors were packed with onlookers.
Damn it, are they crazy?
He felt a surge of anxiety.
Fighting wasn’t some game. Duan Yi didn’t mind the consequences for himself—he’d racked up countless demerits, especially verbal warnings, and written countless apology letters.
But Sheng Yunze couldn’t afford a demerit. With such a public spectacle, the Political Education Office would have no choice but to punish him to appease the students.
A demerit would certainly jeopardize his college recommendation.
Duan Yi’s urgency made him unsteady on his feet—mostly because his uniform was chafing his thigh, causing excruciating pain.
Pushing through the crowd, he hadn’t gone far when someone shouted, “Old He’s here!”
“Damn, Old He looks furious…”
“Who’s on duty today? They’re coming with him. Is Old Xiao around?”
“The Vice Principal’s here too?”
Something was happening ahead. Students in the corridor were being herded back into their classrooms.
Finally able to move more freely, Duan Yi hurried forward.
Several figures stood ahead,
Old He stood in the middle with two duty teachers, while Sheng Yunze stood against the corridor wall. Scar crouched on the ground, wailing dramatically—Duan Yi was convinced he was faking it; that idiot was always trying to play the victim.
Old He, his face grim, was speaking to Sheng Yunze when Duan Yi and Jiang Wangshu arrived. He immediately noticed them.
“What are you doing here?” Old He glared at Duan Yi, then, remembering his long history of misbehavior, snapped, “Did you come to help?!”
“No, no, no, no, we didn’t,” Jiang Wangshu stammered.
Duan Yi offered a perfunctory explanation, “There was a fight in our class, Old He. As Class President, I came to check it out. Our Old Class Teacher is off duty today.”
It was a decent excuse, and Old He had no grounds to refute it.
Duan Yi quickly sidled up to Sheng Yunze, finally showing some anger. “Is this the ‘private matter’ you mentioned?”
Sheng Yunze nodded calmly.
Duan Yi’s vision darkened with fury. “Good student! Is fighting what you should be doing? Do you think I’m an idiot? If someone picks a fight with me, I’m going to hit back!”
Sheng Yunze replied, “You can beat him up again, but I won’t let him off the hook either.”
Sheng Yunze really is a model student, Duan Yi thought.
You couldn’t have picked a better time or place? You had to start a fight right outside his classroom, while Old He was away? You wanted to make a scene, didn’t you?
Duan Yi grabbed Sheng Yunze’s hand. “Let me see if you’re hurt.”
“Just a scrape,” Sheng Yunze mumbled, his voice low and tinged with resentment. “It stings like hell.”
Duan Yi immediately knelt down, forgetting all about holding Sheng Yunze accountable. Sure enough, there was a small scrape on his palm.
Old He stood with his hands on his hips, scowling. “Sheng Yunze! Did I underestimate you? Did you get drunk today? You never cause trouble normally—were you saving up for this grand spectacle?”
Seeing Duan Yi fussing over Sheng Yunze, Old He’s anger flared. “Duan Yi! Is this how a Class President acts? Huh? No roll call before Evening Self-Study? Is that why your classmates are running over to the second-year classes to start fights?”
Duan Yi replied humbly, “Teacher He, I’m the Class President, not their babysitter. How am I supposed to know where they go?” He added defensively, “Besides, Sheng Yunze wasn’t the only one throwing punches. Forces are mutual—if he hit Scar, he’d get hurt too. I’m sure Sheng Yunze has learned his lesson. Look at his scraped hand—we need to bandage it quickly…”
Everyone stared at Scar, who was being supported by the duty teacher, his face bruised and swollen, his wrist bent at an unnatural angle.
Duan Yi blinked innocently. “Then… should I take Sheng Yunze and leave now?”
“Everyone, get to the Political Education Office now!” Old He barked.
“Explain yourselves. Why were you fighting?”
Old He poured himself a cup of boiling water.
In the Political Education Office were Sheng Yunze, Duan Yi, Xu Liang—Scar’s real name—and two teachers on duty.
Jiang Wangshu had been sent back to manage the class and warn them to coordinate their stories when Old He summoned the students—a classic case of collusion.
Old Xiao, the Vice Principal of Hangzhou Second High School, sat grimly in his large office chair.
Scar struck first. “I caught Duan Yi using an omega pheromone inducer and was going to report him, but he found out.”
Like a thunderclap in clear skies, Old He slammed his teacup onto the desk, his anger palpable. “Xu Liang! Do you even realize what you’re saying?!”
Accusing a high school student—a seventeen-year-old underage Alpha—of using an omega pheromone inducer wasn’t just grounds for expulsion. The social repercussions could land Duan Yi in serious trouble.
One of the teachers on duty was Wu Sinian, a young Omega Chinese teacher from the First-Year Group with gold-rimmed glasses. He was childhood friends with Song Baiqiao, “Lao Zhang” from the infirmary.
He discreetly closed the door to the Political Education Office.
Duan Yi often hung out in the infirmary with Lao Zhang, sharing instant noodles. Wu Sinian would sometimes bring them snacks, and Duan Yi would call him “Sister-in-law.”
Wu Sinian’s voice was gentle but firm, his expression serious. “Xu Liang, you need evidence for your claims, especially in front of all these teachers. Do you realize how serious it is to possess omega pheromone inducers? Duan Yi could be expelled because of your accusation.”
Duan Yi was about to speak when Old He glanced at him. Sheng Yunze pressed his hand, signaling him to stay silent for now.
Duan Yi didn’t understand their intentions, but a sudden realization struck him, chilling him to the bone.
He realized he had no grounds to refute Scar’s claims.
First, traces of the omega pheromone inducer from his uniform were undoubtedly still in his system.
Second, the investigation would only confirm he was an Omega—not a major issue in itself. What truly paled his face was the permanent mating mark from Sheng Yunze on his body.
“I’m not lying. Everything I said is true,” Scar insisted, sitting on a chair with a bruised leg, his eyes burning with venomous hatred. “I know Duan Yi’s father is Duan Ji Huai. He’s a rich second-generation heir. Of course you teachers would side with him. I’ve got nothing to lose. The barefoot fear no one with shoes. If you don’t deal with Duan Yi, I’ll take this to the school myself.”
“What’s with this attitude!” Old Xiao stood up. “Xu Liang, do you even act like a student anymore?”
“Teacher Xiao, I’m telling the truth. You’re the principal, so I can’t stop you from protecting Duan Yi. But you can just check with the hospital—the doctors will confirm whether it’s true or not.” Scar paused. “I think you should investigate quickly. Duan Yi is an Alpha, after all. Who knows what he’s planning with that omega pheromone inducer? Some Omega might already be affected.”
“Bullshit!” Duan Yi kicked Scar to the ground.
The sudden attack caught everyone off guard.
Sheng Yunze grabbed Duan Yi first, but Duan Yi refused to back down, trying to kick Scar again.
Scar, realizing he needed to play the victim, stood still and let Duan Yi hit him, adopting the pitiful look of a bullied underdog.
Old He roared, “Enough! Everyone stand still! Duan Yi! Are you losing all respect for your teachers? What kind of behavior is this? Attacking someone in the Political Education Office? Haven’t you learned your lesson yet?”
Duan Yi’s eyes reddened. “Xu Liang, that idiot, is spreading lies!”
Old He’s headache worsened from the shouting. “This isn’t a minor matter.”
His hand trembled slightly as he held the teacup. A severe headache pounded in his temples. He looked at Duan Yi, remaining silent for a long moment, unable to bring himself to suggest a hospital check-up.
A hospital visit would imply suspicion of Duan Yi.
Without any evidence, as a teacher, he shouldn’t cast doubt on a student.
At their age, teachers were guiding lights on life’s path, their every action carrying immense weight.
One wrong decision could ruin a student’s future.
After a long pause, Old He said, “You can all return to your classrooms. The school will investigate this thoroughly and ensure no one is treated unfairly.”
He glanced at Duan Yi. “You stay here.”
Sheng Yunze followed his gaze to Duan Yi. Duan Yi nodded and whispered, “I’m fine. You go first.”
“I’ll wait for you outside,” Sheng Yunze replied, his expression troubled. He pressed his lips together and walked silently to the door.
Wu Sinian returned from the infirmary with iodine and antiseptic. He called out to Sheng Yunze, “Come here. Was that scratch on your hand from a nail?”
“No,” Sheng Yunze answered.
Wu Sinian: “I just took Xu Liang to the infirmary to have Old Song check him out. You really went too far, kid. You could have caused serious trouble.”
Sheng Yunze remained silent. Wu Sinian placed the medicine on the table and asked, “Is this about Duan Yi?”
Sheng Yunze: “Xu Liang was the one with the omega pheromone inducer.”
Wu Sinian chuckled. “Usually such a clever kid. How do you lose your cool when it comes to Duan Yi?” He unscrewed the medicine bottle. “But that’s what youth is all about, right? Impulsiveness. Otherwise, what’s the point?”
Sheng Yunze’s lips tightened further.
Wu Sinian: “Don’t worry. I trust Duan Yi. He’s not the type to joke around with pheromone inducers.”
“Tell me what happened,” Old He said in the Political Education Office, sitting on a stool.
Duan Yi spoke honestly, “Xu Liang was bullying an Omega girl outside last time, so I beat him up. He probably held a grudge. When the girl returned my uniform this time, he slipped the pheromone inducer into it.”
Old He frowned. “So, you still have an Omega uniform in your locker contaminated with the inducer? If you go to the hospital now, they’ll find traces of it in your system?”
Duan Yi inexplicably felt a twinge of guilt, the first time he’d ever felt even a hint of remorse toward Old He. “…I guess so.”
Old He closed his eyes and sighed heavily. “Duan Yi, you’re going to drive me to an early grave! You’re going to drive me to an early grave!”
He silently rose and stood by the window, wordlessly gazing at the library building donated by Xiaoduan Dad.
To build this library and provide the students with a more comfortable reading environment, Old He had single-handedly shouldered the responsibility of cleaning up Duan Yi’s messes.
Old He felt tears welling up, threatening to spill. Who could possibly understand the bitterness in his heart?
Before he knew it, he was already dealing with the third-year students.
He sighed, thinking of Duan Yi. After all, this was a student he’d personally disciplined. He couldn’t help but feel a little differently toward him.
Even his own mother doesn’t worry about him this much!
Old He inwardly shed a tear of bitterness before turning to look at Duan Yi.
Duan Yi was staring at his shoes, looking rather pitiful.
Old He’s heart softened.
Duan Yi might be mischievous, but he wasn’t nearly as troublesome as students like Xu Liang.
Xu Liang was truly bad news. In his first year, he’d gotten into a fight off campus and been stabbed. Old He had immediately decided this student was too dangerous to keep around.
It wasn’t that Second High School couldn’t teach him well; Xu Liang’s personality was inherently antisocial.
What if he harmed other students at Second High School?
Keeping him here had only led to trouble.
Old He suddenly felt ten years older. He remembered why he’d kept Xu Liang in the first place, he was young, a student of his, and Old He had thought he could guide him, preventing him from ruining his life.
But reality had proven otherwise.
And now this mess.
“Go back,” Old He waved his hand. “Tomorrow, both you and Xu Liang report to the Political Education Office.”
Duan Yi mumbled an “Okay” and shuffled out of the office, where Sheng Yunze was waiting around the corner.
Duan Yi’s mood instantly brightened.
“Were you waiting for me?” he hurried over.
Sheng Yunze took his hand. “What did Old He say?”
“Nothing much. He just asked where I got the omega pheromone inducer, and I told him the truth. Don’t worry, Old He understands. He won’t make things difficult for us.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Duan Yi noticed Sheng Yunze’s silence.
This wasn’t like his boyfriend, who was usually quick to find fault with everything he said.
Duan Yi stopped walking. “What’s wrong?”
Sheng Yunze glanced at him. “I’m sorry.”
Duan Yixin’s heart skipped a beat. Sheng Yunze’s apology suddenly felt very serious, and Duan Yi gradually lost his smile. “Why are you apologizing to me? You haven’t done anything wrong. Did you finally realize you went too hard on me this afternoon? If so, you definitely owe me an apology—my legs still ache from walking.”
Sheng Yunze: ……
At such a solemn moment, couldn’t you stop with the jokes? he thought.
But Duan Yi’s teasing instantly dispelled the heavy atmosphere between them.
“Let me check if you’ve treated your wounds,” Duan Yi said.
“If you wait any longer, they’ll heal on their own,” Sheng Yunze replied.
Duan Yi glanced up, then suddenly pulled Sheng Yunze into a blind spot in the stairwell, out of the surveillance camera’s view. He stood on tiptoe, cupped Sheng Yunze’s face, and kissed him.
Sheng Yunze was startled by this bold move, but he quickly took control, deepening the kiss.
In the corner of the staircase, where people passed frequently and they could be discovered at any moment, the two boys recklessly comforted each other.
It was thrilling, Duan Yi thought, his heart pounding wildly.
When the kiss ended, Sheng Yunze pressed his lips against Duan Yi’s and whispered, “Is there anything you want to tell me?”
Duan Yixin thought, What’s there to say?
After a moment’s consideration, he decided to go for something a little more provocative.
He coughed dramatically and exclaimed with exaggerated enthusiasm, “My husband looks so cool when he fights! So badass!”
Sheng Yunze: ……
Duan Yixin put on a spirited performance, then looked earnestly at Sheng Yunze. “Husband, are you satisfied with what you saw?”
Sheng Yunze gave him a sharp rap on the head. Duan Yixin yelped in pain and clutched his head.
“Speechless!” Sheng Yunze said coldly.
He turned stiffly and walked toward the academic building, his movements awkward and uncoordinated.
He’s walking like a robot!
The next day, a dense crowd had gathered around the sign-up notice board.
Jian Qiao emerged from the girls’ dormitory, a carton of milk dangling from her mouth. Noticing the crowd, she grabbed a passerby and casually asked, “What’s going on?”
The male student, chosen by the school beauty herself, felt his heart pounding wildly. He immediately blurted out the truth, “Someone wrote on the sign-up board with a marker—about Duan Yi abusing omega pheromone inducers…”
Jian Qiao’s expression froze.
She tossed aside her milk and shoved her way through the crowd.
“Move! Move!”
When Jian Qiao reached the front, she saw the large marker-written words on the bulletin board.
[ ~Duan Yi, enjoying the omega pheromone inducer? ]
[ ~Duan Yi, is Meng Tian good in bed? ]
Bang! The glass of the bulletin board was violently flung open, shattering the silence with a deafening crash.
Jian Qiao, her face dark with fury, tore down all the posters, crumpled them into a ball, and tossed them into the trash. Then she pulled out her phone and called Duan Yi.
The onlookers, sensing Jian Qiao’s rage, quickly dispersed. Some went to eat, others to drink, but their conversations shifted from dramas, celebrities, and exams to Duan Yi, omega pheromone inducers, and Meng Tian.
[ Meng Tian. ]
Duan Yi remembered her. He had helped her once, and she was also the second-year girl who had returned his uniform. She always wore a ponytail, kept her head down, and often had inexplicable bruises on her arms—as if she had been hit or struck by something.
[ ~Duan Yi, did you fuck Meng Tian good? ]
These words were scrawled across the blackboard.
The students of Third Year Class 1 stood frozen at the classroom door, none daring to enter.
Duan Yi stood alone in the classroom, facing the blackboard in silence.
Sheng Yunze kicked the door open, grabbed the eraser, and swiftly wiped away the large characters on the board.
He turned around, his face grim. “Who was on duty last night?”
“I was…” the Bookworm raised his hand timidly. “The blackboard was clean when I left.”
Hao Shanshan snapped out of her daze and touched the windowsill.
The window facing the corridor was broken. “This window can be opened from the outside,” Hao Shanshan said. “Someone must have climbed in last night to write that.”
During morning exercises, Duan Yi was responsible for the class keys. But Duan Yi was notoriously forgetful, losing the keys over a dozen times each semester.
Sometimes, he would even disappear mid-exercise. When Pingtou and the others returned early, they would simply pry open the window and climb into the classroom.
After being forced open so many times, the window latch had loosened, and anyone could now open it.
“I saw it too, downstairs in the dorm,” Xiaobudian spoke up quietly. “Meng Tian lives on our floor. This morning, a group of girls pushed her to the ground outside the dorm and called her shameless.”
Duan Yi’s expression was deeply embarrassed.
Jiang Wangshu asked, “Who’s Meng Tian? How did she end up with my Duan Bao?”
Hao Shanshan exclaimed, “Oh, I remember! Didn’t you ask me about Li Yuan last time? This is the same Meng Tian. I don’t know what she did to piss him off, but those Crown Princes have their eyes on her now. Several times after school, I saw Li Yuan waiting for her at the school gate, leaning against her motorcycle in a black jacket and work pants—she really stood out.”
Jiang Wangshu raised an eyebrow. “You mean that idiot Li Yuan who can’t go a day without trying to look cool?”
Hao Shanshan shrugged. “True, but she does look cool when she’s trying to be cool.”
Jiang Wangshu draped an arm over Duan Yi’s shoulder. “Forget it. It’s just some petty bullshit Scar probably came up with—some elementary school-level revenge. Don’t let it get to you.”
Duan Yi scoffed, “Who cares about him? He’s such a loser.”
But he was still furious.
Furious all morning.
He even ate two fewer bites at lunch!
Jian Qiao called to report that Scar had plastered these messages in prominent places all over the school.
The news about Duan Yi using an omega pheromone inducer was spreading like wildfire across the Hangzhou High School Forum, not just the internal forum of Second High School.
The forum was flooded with posts. By morning, students from all over the city were asking, “Who is Duan Yi?”
After all, the forum included Fourth High School, Seventh High School, First High School, Foreign Language High School, Xi High, Zhe High, Attached Middle School, and over a dozen other high schools. There were bound to be students who didn’t know Duan Yi.
By afternoon, the situation had escalated.
Nearly everyone in the schools was discussing it.
Even at First High School, where Qin Shu attended, students were gossiping about how an Alpha from Second High School had abused an omega pheromone inducer and assaulted an Omega. The rumors grew increasingly outrageous. Qin Shu specifically called Duan Yi to check on him.
Duan Yi hung up, staring at the exam questions. He couldn’t solve a single one to begin with, and now he had no motivation to even try.
In Third Year Class 1, everyone avoided mentioning Duan Yi’s name, but the classroom lacked its usual liveliness. The students seemed preoccupied and heavy-hearted.
Though no one in class dared to speak openly, Duan Yi noticed people stealing glances at him whenever he walked down the hall, went to the cafeteria, or even played basketball. Soon, whispers would follow.
“Tch!” Duan Yi slammed the basketball against the ground with a loud thud. “What are you talking about?” he demanded.
The group of boys startled, their eyes fixed on Duan Yi.
On the basketball court, everyone froze mid-motion.
Duan Yi dribbled the ball, his wristbands sliding from left hand to right with each bounce.
The rhythmic thud of the ball echoed across the court, matching the frantic beat of the boys’ hearts.
“Spill it,” Duan Yi said, raising an eyebrow. “The omega pheromone inducer or Meng Tian? Ask me directly. You’re dying to know, aren’t you?”
The boys shook their heads in unison.
Duan Yi’s expression hardened. “If you don’t have the guts to ask, don’t let me catch you gossiping behind my back. Next time, I’ll beat you every time I see you.”
The boys scrambled to gather their bags and fled the basketball court.
Jiang Wangshu tossed the basketball at Duan Yi, knocking the one in his hands out of his grip. “Still up for a game?”
“Nah, too annoying,” Duan Yi said, settling down beneath the basketball hoop.
“Did Old He call Sheng Yunze in?” Jiang Wangshu asked. “I haven’t seen him all afternoon.”
“I didn’t ask him,” Duan Yi said. “He’s probably busy. Don’t tell him about this. I don’t want to drag him into it.”
“Come on, it’s blown up this big. How could he not know?” Jiang Wangshu retorted. “Why don’t you talk to Uncle Duan and have him smooth things over? Since Scar’s already falsely accused you of abusing your connections, might as well make it a reality!”
Duan Yi fell silent. “No way. My dad would break both my legs.”
He stared at the basketball, suddenly feeling inexplicably irritated. His right eyelid kept twitching uncontrollably.
While being gossiped about didn’t bother him much, being targeted by lies was infuriating. Scar’s scheme was both idiotic and infuriating.
Originally, Duan Yi had planned to let the matter fade away on its own. He knew he was innocent, and if Scar wanted to play dirty, let him waste his time. Duan Yi refused to believe that bastard could actually pull off anything.
But the very next day, Scar’s antics came to an abrupt end.
Not because he’d had a sudden epiphany, repented his misdeeds, and vowed to turn over a new leaf.
But because he’d been beaten to a pulp, a fractured right hand, a broken shin, cracked ribs, a damaged eyelid, minor facial disfigurement, and a mild concussion. He was currently in the hospital undergoing emergency treatment.
When Duan Yi heard the news, his mind went blank. His first reaction was denial.
Scar had been beaten so badly at this critical moment that everyone would undoubtedly suspect him.
But he hadn’t beaten Scar…
Old He’s message arrived swiftly, informing Duan Yi that Scar’s parents had already rushed to the school.
Old He’s implication was clear, Duan Ji Huai needed to get to the school as soon as possible.
Scar remained unconscious in the intensive care unit. If he suffered any serious complications or didn’t pull through, this incident would escalate beyond a mere schoolyard fight.
It would become a matter of criminal liability.
Author’s Note:
Let’s stir up some trouble and expose Xiaoduan’s true colors. pushes up glasses
The school beauty acted impulsively! He confessed! He really hadn’t thought things through at the time—he just wanted to beat Scar up. Everyone’s equal in the face of love, amen.
Old He: I’ve sacrificed too much for this school…
