What's Wrong with This Alpha? - Chapter 3
Chapter 3 – The Ex-boyfriend
Duan Yi spent 3,000 yuan from his own pocket to treat the whole class to a fancy snack platter. He won the hearts of his classmates and their votes, becoming the class president of Third Year Class 1 during the class meeting.
Jiang Wangshu was chosen as the class’s academic committee representative for getting the highest score in the class placement exam. He was now called “Chairman Jiang.”
“Damn, bro, can’t I avoid being the class academic representative? It feels like I’m becoming a traitor to my own class.”
Just as he finished speaking, before Duan Yi could respond, someone else called out, “Class President Duan, remember to pick up the baseline test papers from the library this afternoon. The exam is tomorrow.”
Duan Yi groaned, “Can’t I quit being class president?”
Jiang Wangshu replied, “Isn’t it great? You’ve always loved being in charge. This is the peak of your political career.”
“By the way, Class President Duan, your political career is still at the level of a Young Pioneer.”
Duan Yi snapped, “Get lost!”
He kicked Jiang’s desk and trudged downstairs.
The voice that had invaded his mind last night had vanished completely, as if it had never existed.
But the 3,000 yuan he spent on treating others to a meal today was real. Duan Yi’s lips twitched as he texted his mother, asking her to book an appointment with a therapist for him.
Mrs. Duan moved with lightning speed, arranging Duan Yi’s schedule within minutes.
His family was well-off. Both parents were business owners, famous entrepreneurs in Z Province. Their company led the electronics industry there and became the wealthiest family in Z Province last year.
Duan Yi was a true rich second-generation heir.
Compared to his capitalist stench of money, Sheng Yunze came from a scholarly family. His father was a high-knowledge worker at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, working in aviation and physics. His mother was an internationally famous singer and cellist with some political connections.
“Sheng Yunze…”
Duan Yi’s ears perked up, pausing briefly.
Hearing “Sheng Yunze”, he suddenly jumped behind a pillar like a rabbit, only showing his eyes.
Sheng Yunze and Jian Qiao stood on the skydeck.
A handsome man and a beautiful woman, one Alpha and one Omega, both single—a very pleasing sight.
Jian Qiao, the goddess Duan Yi had secretly loved in high school.
By all logic, he was an Alpha with money and power. If not for that strange parallel world crossing, he would have been with Jian Qiao.
But now everything had changed. Duan Yi had lived with Sheng Yunze in another world for over a decade, even having two sons together.
When Duan Yi thought of his twin sons, he couldn’t help but feel heartache for a moment.
To be honest, besides Sheng Yunze from that world, his sons were what he missed most.
Even if he wanted to pretend this whole experience was a dream, it had lasted over a decade. The emotions weren’t fake.
Returning to reality, it was bad enough he didn’t change back into an Alpha. Worse, he became a marked Omega.
Fortunately, marked Omegas no longer produce pheromones. Their heat periods are less frequent, making them look like ordinary Betas.
However, they need their Alpha’s pheromones regularly. Without it, they can become weak and sick. In severe cases, it can be life-threatening.
In other words, Duan Yi now had to secretly obtain some of Sheng Yunze’s pheromones—through contact, hugs, kisses… The last one was unlikely. Currently, he had become Sheng Yunze’s “Panty Thief” in his mind, a pure pervert without any excuses.
But even just brushing against Sheng Yunze could calm him. Duan Yi suddenly felt the world was still quite wonderful!
Once he turned 20, reaching the legal age to remove his gland, he could pay to have it taken out. With the Duan family’s wealth, would he struggle to find a wife for the rest of his life?
Wonderful, wonderful.
Duan Yi thought so deeply that his dog tail couldn’t help but wag happily.
Jian Qiao, blushing, handed the milk tea to Sheng Yunze. “Could you bring this to Duan Yi? This cup is for you.”
“I’m not close with Duan Yi,” Sheng Yunze said.
Jian Qiao: ?
Was her information wrong?
How come she saw on the school forum that Duan Yi boldly confessed his love—platonic love—last night at Sheng Yunze’s dorm door?
Their relationship seemed to have broken the ice, as some classmates even took photos of Duan Yi’s profile.
That’s why she found an excuse to block Sheng Yunze here, hoping he could deliver the bubble tea to Duan Yi.
Duan Yi watched the “dog and bitch” pair with a sour face.
Jian Qiao and Duan Yi had known each other for two years. She knew Duan Yi liked her, but she liked Sheng Yunze.
Sheng Yunze was a famous silent and aloof guy at Second High School. He was like an ice-cold mountain flower, and girls secretly in love with him couldn’t find a way to talk to him.
People said Sheng Yunze only cared about two things: astronomy and physics.
Damn, Duan Yi thought, how is he even more attractive now?!
In another world, Sheng Yunze was a powerful physicist who followed his father’s footsteps. He spent his whole life studying the universe—and also spent time with Duan Yi and his two precious sons.
Duan Yi brought the test papers back to the classroom as Sheng Yunze was returning too.
Their desks were on opposite sides, separated by the Gamma Galaxy.
Jiang Wangshu saw the bubble tea in Sheng Yunze’s hand and jumped from the front door to the back door. “Breaking news! Your goddess just gave Sheng Yunze a cup of bubble tea.”
Duan Yi lay back in his chair, afternoon sunlight streaming through the window onto his face. His eyes were closed. “Thanks for the info, but I’m sunbathing. Don’t disturb me.”
Jiang Wangshu nudged him. “What happened last night? Why did you go to Sheng Yunze’s dorm? Today the school forum’s main page is all about it. They’re saying you were so desperate you finally made a move on ‘Campus Heartthrob’. You really sacrificed yourself to entertain the masses.”
“Stealing his underwear and sneaking into his dorm…”
Duan Yi suddenly sat up, alarmed. “Don’t tell me Sheng Yunze thinks I sexually harassed him?”
“If he were an Omega, he’d have already reported you to the police.”
Duan Yi leaned back in his chair. “What do I do now?”
He was still counting on Sheng Yunze’s pheromones to survive until he turned twenty. Now that he’d ruined their relationship, how could he borrow pheromones?
Should he steal them?
Damn!
He’d already learned that the hard way.
Before Jiang Wangshu could suggest anything, Duan Yi had already squeezed his way over to Sheng Yunze.
Sheng Yunze didn’t even lift his eyelids. Duan Yi had been married to him for over a decade, long accustomed to his deadpan face. He opened his mouth, “Old…”
The word “husband” was swallowed alive.
Duan Yi forced a change in wording: “…classmate, about last night’s incident, I didn’t mean anything by it.”
Sheng Yunze flipped open his book.
Undeterred, Duan Yi pressed on, “Don’t take it to heart. Really, I—”
He glanced around, ensuring no one was nearby. With newfound resolve, he stared at Sheng Yunze with his most sincere gaze. His features were endearingly youthful, with rosy lips and fair skin. His slightly chubby face, framed by puppy-like eyes with downward-pointing tails, would make anyone call out, “That’s shameless cuteness!”
Sheng Yunze remained completely unfazed, responding with a classic rabbit-like expression: -.-
Damn… Why does this expression look so damn annoying and begging for a punch?!
Duan Yi swallowed hard. “Sheng Yunze, you heard yesterday, right? About the time travel thing.”
He gritted his teeth. “Yes, I really did time travel. Whether you believe it or not, I got into a car accident during summer vacation and got married to you in another parallel world. You’re an Alpha, I’m an Omega, and we have two sons. Have you read time travel novels? It’s exactly that kind of time travel. For some unknown reason, after spending over ten years there, I suddenly traveled back! And when I came back, the pheromone bond between us hadn’t disappeared. That means I need your pheromones. Of course, I won’t force you to be with me now. I’m not some evil bully. I’m just explaining clearly that I wasn’t stealing your underwear yesterday. I just wanted to borrow the pheromones from your clothes… What’s with that look?”
Sheng Yunze looked at him coldly. “Is your life so boring you have nothing better to do?”
Duan Yi: =口=!
Sheng Yunze continued looking at him as if he were a mentally disabled person. “If you have time, go to the hospital and visit the psych department. You can use my citizen card.”
Duan Yi: … So boss-like, husband. Should I give you a round of applause?
“You don’t believe me!”
Sheng Yunze: “If you tell this to anyone else, who would believe you?”
Duan Yi: “But I’m telling the truth!”
He squinted at Sheng Yunze. “What’s with that look? Do you think I’m not just a perverted Alpha harasser but also a brain-damaged one now?”
Sheng Yunze gave him a look that said, “You might not be completely hopeless.” He offered a blunt assessment, “It seems you still have some self-awareness.”
Duan Yi: “Fuck!”
He was so angry he could chew nails, his face turning red. If I keep talking to you, coffin face, I might as well be a dog…
Jiang Wangshu: “Xiaoduan, why did you run over so full of energy only to come back like a wandering ghost? Here, drink some water.”
Duan Yi came back to his senses.
Jiang Wangshu comforted him, “Sheng Yunze has that dog-like temper. Why do you keep provoking him? Not that I’m saying…”
He hesitated, “Last year, your relationship with him at school was already pretty bad. Why did you act like a different person after the summer break? Why did you have to provoke him?”
Jiang Wangshu patted his shoulder, thinking Duan Yi was upset about the Nan Yi situation. He tried to comfort him, “It’s just a breakup. Not a big deal. Though Nan Yi didn’t even tell us about transferring…”
“Nan Yi?”
Duan Yi woke up from a dream.
He’d spent over a decade in that parallel world, almost forgetting Nan Yi existed.
This person was his first love. In academic terms, that means: his ex-boyfriend.
When they were in middle school, before they both came out, they had a short relationship of about half a year. They tried this trendy early romance thing, but after both coming out as A, their naive love ended without any real conclusion.
There was some misunderstanding in between. After Nan Yi went abroad, he stopped contacting Duan Yi. When he returned, he heard Nan Yi had transferred to Second High School and even repeated a grade, moving to Class 3 of the second year.
Duan Yi dug up this memory and counted the days—it must have happened recently.
Jiang Wangshu sighed, “Good horses don’t eat grass from the past. He’s A, you’re A too. A-A relationships have no future.”
For Jiang Wangshu, this was three years ago.
For Duan Yi, his history with Nan Yi was already twenty years past. He couldn’t even remember what Nan Yi looked like in high school.
At that moment, he truly felt like a lone wolf in the north wind: Why doesn’t anyone believe me?
Duan Yi waited until afternoon classes ended, rushing back to his dorm before evening self-study. In his dog-like den, he dug through the mess and found Sheng Yunze’s short sleeve shirt.
He looked at it seriously, holding the shirt in his arms, eyes welling up with tears, “Son, it’s not that Dad doesn’t want you. But if I don’t return you now, my pervert reputation in Sheng Yunze’s eyes will be beyond repair!”
Before evening self-study, Second High School had fifty minutes for rest and dinner.
Most students were in the cafeteria, with few returning to their dorms.
Duan Yi sneaked out of his dorm, skillfully swiping Sheng Yunze’s door open with his meal card.
Sheng Yunze’s bed was on the bottom, by the window. His desk stood beside it, and his wardrobe was the third one from the left.
As Duan Yi pulled open the wardrobe, the quiet dorm creaked. He closed his eyes tightly.
Is putting it in the wardrobe too obvious? he thought. It was lost yesterday, then found in the wardrobe today?
Sheng Yunze had the highest IQ in Z Province. Duan Yi’s IQ was only a quarter of his. If even Duan Yi found this strange, how could Sheng Yunze not notice?
Just as he was struggling with this, the sound of a door handle turning came from the dorm entrance.
“Huh? Why isn’t the door closed?”
The roommate from Room 306 had returned.
Duan Yi slowly froze in the dorm as the door opened inch by inch. In a split second, he darted under Sheng Yunze’s quilt.
“Yunze, why is your quilt so messy? Didn’t you fold it before leaving?” the roommate asked.
Sheng Yunze walked in, frowning. He approached the bed and lifted the quilt.
Duan Yi clutched his short sleeve, curled up on the bed, and stared wide-eyed at him. He blinked slowly and innocently, silently mouthing, “M-misunderstanding… just… a misunderstanding…”
Sheng Yunze: …
Duan Yi: …
In the awkward silence of their staring contest, Duan Yi heard a crystal-clear, cold voice in his head.
[ Choose. ]
[ A.) Tell Sheng Yunze you just walked into the wrong dorm and wanted to test how soft his bed is. ]
B.) Return Sheng Yunze’s short sleeve and cry while shouting, “Husband, I was wrong! I promise I won’t do it again next time!”
C.) Tell Sheng Yunze, “I stole the short sleeve. Not only will I take your shirt, I’ll steal your heart~ too~ Chuu~~” ]
Duan Yi: …Aaaaaahhhhh!
This damn thing—You fucking… You’re still here?!
And—Why are you so obsessed with B and C?! These options were here yesterday too, you know!
