What if My Roommate Finds Out I Write Danmei? - Chapter 8
Chapter 8: 8L: Delighted to Hear and See
Ning Wenru was very excited today.
After multiple adjustments, improvements, and revisions, he had finally finished preparing his patent application materials and successfully submitted them. Having put aside a major concern, Ning Wenru’s writing inspiration flowed rapidly, with several creative ideas emerging. Recalling that the robots for the competition were almost complete, Ning Wenru smiled happily throughout his journey back to school.
However, as soon as Ning Wenru returned to the dormitory, he saw Pang Zaiyuan sitting at his own computer. Upon hearing him come back, Pang Zaiyuan swiftly turned around, wearing an expression on his face that was very indescribable—shock, bewilderment, in short, a very strange look.
Seeing Pang Zaiyuan like this, Ning Wenru was somewhat puzzled, but he didn’t seek to understand; he just asked: “Have our elective course enrollment applications been successful?”
Pang Zaiyuan nodded slightly, his hand moved, and then he stepped aside, also adjusting his expression back to normal before saying: “Yes, it’s already been enrolled in the wisdom of the Scripture of Dao and Virtue that you wanted.”
Ning Wenru became even happier: “That’s good, good things come in pairs! What about you, what did you enroll in?”
Pang Zaiyuan sat down opposite Ning Wenru at the desk, woodenly responding: “Enrolled in something related to human resource management.” Then Ning Wenru saw Pang Zaiyuan fall silent for a moment, before hearing him ask: “You seem very happy today? What good things come in pairs?”
Ning Wenru smiled and said, “Because the patent application has been submitted, and the robot is almost ready. Once the teacher comes to see it tomorrow, it should be more or less done. I’ve also registered for the desired elective courses. If the patent application succeeds, there will be three pieces of good news.”
Pang Zaiyuan hesitated, finally condensing his thoughts into one sentence: “Congratulations.”
Ning Wenru nodded, paying no attention to Pang Zaiyuan’s odd behavior. Time was pressing, so he moved the computer onto the bed and began typing, continuing to write about his laboratory and teacher’s story. A shy and bashful smile occasionally lifted his face, completely missing the even stranger expression on Pang Zaiyuan’s face.
After writing for a while, Ning Wenru suddenly heard Pang Zaiyuan’s question: “You often spend nights in the laboratory, does your advisor stay with you too?”
Ning Wenru replied while typing: “No, the teacher is very busy. Basically, it’s my classmates and I staying up all night.”
After a long while, he heard Pang Zaiyuan ask again: “Do you, every day, like this, not suffer?”
Ning Wenru stopped, giving Pang Zaiyuan a strange look before answering: “It’s very normal. When I first entered, I saw Senior Brothers often doing this. Maybe because we’re young, when doing what we like, we always have a lot of enthusiasm, and before we know it, we’ve forgotten to eat and sleep.”
Pang Zaiyuan’s gaze became increasingly strange, hard to describe. He stared at Ning Wenru for a good while, and finally turned away, no longer looking at him.
Ning Wenru blinked and added a sentence: “Besides, it’s just about enduring for a while. Once the competition robots are sorted out, there won’t be any more all-nighters ~ Do I look very haggard right now?”
Pang Zaiyuan said “No” and opened his computer. It seemed he was looking at something, with no intention of continuing to talk with Ning Wenru. Ning Wenru occasionally stole a glance, discovering that Pang Zaiyuan’s expression was clearly very surprised. After a while, he heard the sound of Pang Zaiyuan going to the bathroom.
It wasn’t until noon that Ning Wenru finished writing this short text that had been released for free, and prepared to go to the bathroom, only to find that Pang Zaiyuan seemed to be inside, as if he hadn’t come out the entire morning.
Could he be feeling faint? Ning Wenru put down his computer and knocked on the door, asking: “Zaiyuan, it’s been the whole morning already. Are you alright?”
Pang Zaiyuan’s hoarse voice came from inside the bathroom: “I’m fine.”
“Really? Do you want me to call a doctor?” Ning Wenru asked.
Ning Wenru seemed to hear a faint gasp before Pang Zaiyuan’s reply: “I’m fine.”
Ning Wenru looked at his cell phone and persisted to ask, “Just now, I was writing and forgot the time, it turned out to be already over 3 hours! You seem to have never come out, is it constipation? How are your legs? Do you need me to help you walk?”
“… Really nothing’s wrong, it’ll be fine soon, help me bring food.”
“Then… alright, I’m going to the cafeteria, if anything comes up call me,” Ning Wenru said.
“Hm.” Pang Zaiyuan concisely acknowledged with a single sound.
Ning Wenru pondered for a moment, hearing that brief and weak voice, he guessed Pang Zaiyuan might be constipated or suffering from vomiting or diarrhea, so he first went to buy some medicine, then went to the cafeteria to buy congee for Pang Zaiyuan before returning to the dormitory.
When Ning Wenru returned to the dormitory, Pang Zaiyuan had already come out from the bathroom. Ning Wenru carefully observed for a while, seeing that Pang Zaiyuan’s complexion was quite good, not much different from usual, didn’t seem like he was sick, so he felt slightly relieved.
Placing the newly bought medicine and congee on the table, Ning Wenru then said to Pang Zaiyuan, “This is for treating diarrhea, this is for treating constipation, and there are some emergency medicines as well, take whichever you need to use. Or is it gastrointestinal illness? Although your complexion looks quite good, if you truly don’t feel well, then go see a doctor? Seeing the school doctor is quite cheap.”
Pang Zaiyuan cast Ning Wenru a complex look, pursed his lips, deeply inhaled a breath, and said: “Nothing’s wrong, you—specifically went to buy medicine for me? So much?”
Ning Wenru replied: “Don’t be too stubborn. Take your medicine when you should. These medicines are all for urgent use. The old ones seemed to be almost expired. By buying them now, it can prepare for emergencies. If anyone in the dormitory needs them, they can use them.”
“Ah,” Pang Zaiyuan stared at Ning Wenru for a while before saying: “I really am fine. Isn’t your robot not fixed yet? Aren’t you going to the laboratory this afternoon to listen to teacher’s guidance? What about your food, haven’t you bought it yet? Go eat, don’t mind me.”
Three questions in a row, Ning Wenru could tell that Pang Zaiyuan didn’t want him to stay. But Ning Wenru was still not reassured, so he touched Pang Zaiyuan’s forehead again, confirming there was no fever and Pang Zaiyuan wasn’t being too stubborn or wanting to be helped. Ning Wenru also didn’t insist, so he said: “Alright, I was just worried that you had just come, and all your previous classmates had graduated, so there was no one here to take care of you. If anything comes up, call me and I’ll come over right away.”
Pang Zaiyuan nodded, stared for a long while at the bowl of hot congee Ning Wenru had packed, and finally started drinking it.
