Chapter 71: Intelligence on the World BOSS
***
Inside the meeting hall of the Iris Knights in the Ice Snow City castle.
A man wearing armor and draped in a purple cloak sat at the head of the long table, with knights from the order seated on both sides. Spread out in the center of the table was a complete map of the Winter Snow Plains, 80% of which had already been clearly explored.
The Guildmaster of the Iris Knights, Calen, a powerful individual who had already reached Lv.30, now rested his elbows on the table with his hands crossed in front of him. From beneath deeply set eye sockets, a pair of steady and piercing eyes surveyed everyone, his expression solemn.
All guild members present sat upright, their expressions appearing very tense and grave after learning the latest intelligence about the BOSS.
Because just moments ago, they had received extremely terrible news.
“We can now basically confirm that this Ice Crystal Colossus is the BOSS of the third floor,” Calen began.
“The enemy is extremely large in size, moves slowly, has many AOE area damage skills, and extremely high HP. Unlike before, it’s not a floor BOSS, meaning there’s no limited battle area, no emergency escape methods, and no player number restrictions.”
“In other words, it’s a World BOSS.”
World BOSS — when this term came from Calen’s mouth, the players at the conference table clearly became agitated.
Even during the closed beta, no player had ever faced such a BOSS. It was the first time they’d learned that the game had such a setting, and such an enormous size was unheard of.
According to game logic, this kind of entity shouldn’t appear as early as the third floor.
But the third floor was now in an abnormal lockdown state, and nothing could be judged by common sense. Now they would face not the Winter Ice Wolf King in the Ice Wolf’s Cave as expected, but the World BOSS itself that had caused the entire floor to become abnormal.
“Due to the enemy’s attack pattern and size, it’s extremely unfriendly to melee fighters. Normally, they can only attack the legs, and that’s assuming they can dodge the stomping and area shockwaves. The battle difficulty will be extremely high.”
“What about magic classes?” someone asked.
“It seems equally difficult right now. Unfortunately, even with the advantage of ranged attack abilities, when facing that extremely high magic resistance value, DPS is practically halved, making it difficult to cause sufficient damage.”
Calen slowly shook his head as he answered.
The red-robed knight sitting at the front of the long table also frowned slightly at this. His pride in sword and shield techniques seemed unlikely to play a key role in this battle; it was impossible to expect a shield to block the stomping of such a massive monster.
“Damn, is this BOSS designed to disadvantage all types of players?”
“So skills like defense, blocking, and parrying in close combat will probably be useless too? Does anyone here want to try parrying a fist that can instantly demolish a house?”
“The key issue is the level and stats of that Ice Crystal Colossus…”
“Exactly,” Calen continued as guildmaster in the meeting. “Based on multiple reconnaissance attempts by the advance team, and with the help of members with the Eagle Eye skill, we’ve discovered the level of this World BOSS.”
【World BOSS – Ice Crystal Colossus Golem (Lv.45)】
【HP: 1800000/1800000】
Calen took a screenshot with his in-game terminal of what he saw through the Eagle Eye skill when it penetrated the snow mist, displaying the text that appeared on the right side of the BOSS’s head, and presented it to everyone in the knight order.
Wait, did they miss a zero!?
When seeing that long string of HP values, almost everyone’s first reaction was to count the digits.
After confirming several times, there was no doubt it was 1,800,000 HP.
The first floor BOSS had 32,000 HP, the second floor BOSS had 85,000 HP, and the third floor BOSS should have had 150,000 HP. But this World BOSS suddenly jumped up by an order of magnitude, directly reaching the millions level.
And Level 45? A BOSS of this level, calculated by floors, would be on the seventh floor!
High HP was one thing, but being stepped on by that colossus would almost certainly mean instant death. And the shockwaves caused by its stomping weren’t weak enough to ignore either, necessary evasion would be required.
“The good news is that this battle has no area restrictions and no player limit, so we can form a 100-player raid team for the battle.”
“But the bad news is equally serious. Cavis, bring out that trajectory map,” Calen said to the Chief Red-Robed Knight beside him.
The golden-haired knight in mithril armor stood up. A light bell sound rang as he copied the map intelligence and simultaneously sent it to the mailboxes of all guild members at the meeting for synchronized sharing.
On the map, the red dot marked the position of the World BOSS. The guild’s advance team had been observing the wandering behavior logic of this colossus every day and recording its position to provide warnings for other players to avoid it.
Initially, it had indeed just wandered around the outskirts of the Wind Snow Area without any pattern.
But now it was different. Since yesterday, the colossus had begun moving at an extremely slow pace toward the Ice Snow City main city area and had started generating aggro targets. Once attacked, it would stop and counterattack in various ways.
“This thing is heading toward the town!?” someone realized with alarm.
“Yes, based on current indications, that’s indeed the explanation.”
“Then, if we allow this colossus to ultimately reach Ice Snow City, what will happen to the main city? What about the safe zone?”
“The result is, it might be destroyed.”
Calen lowered his eyes and seriously uttered these words.
Logically speaking, players in safe zones cannot damage or destroy buildings, and they generally don’t take damage. Safe zones don’t make death impossible, but they provide players with a stable and peaceful living space.
But would a World BOSS — the source of the entire floor’s abnormality and an anomaly itself — still follow the game’s rules?
From a realistic physical perspective, when that colossus reaches Ice Snow City, it would undoubtedly trample everything flat. Town houses would be destroyed, residents would be harmed in the disaster, and the entire safe zone might become a scene of devastation.
At that point, with the only safe zone no longer providing protection, without heat sources and supplies.
Players would only be able to wait for death on this snowy plain — all of them, without exception.
The entire meeting hall fell into a deathly silence, and perhaps everyone’s palms were clenched and slightly sweating at this moment.
“So, Guildmaster. How long until the World BOSS reaches the town?”
“Tomorrow night at the latest.” Calen’s solemn eyes looked gravely at everyone as he spoke, then immediately announced: “Therefore, time is of the essence. Share and spread this intelligence as quickly as possible, and make your own thorough preparations beforehand, everyone.”
“— Tomorrow night will be the time for the decisive battle.”
