Chapter 51: Wild PVP Mode
***
Braving the wind and snow, Tilia Scarlet’s figure quickly advanced toward the BOSS room “Ice Wolf King’s Cave.”
A trail of small footprints rapidly extended into the distance, kicking up flurries of snow. The hem of her cold weather outfit fluttered in the wind as dazzling blood-red blade lights flashed through the air at extreme speed, causing the Ice Plains Wolves in the surrounding two rows of trees to perish before they could even howl.
“ROAR——!!!”
A thunderous roar erupted as a giant snow bear lying on the ground detected the intruder. It immediately rose to its feet, stood on the ground making an exaggerated threatening gesture, and blocked the path of the white-haired, red-eyed girl with bloodshot eyes.
【Snow Bear Leader, Lv.15 (Elite Monster)】
【HP: 12,000/12,000】
It raised its heavy paw and slammed it down hard toward the slender girl ahead.
“Don’t block my way!” Tilia didn’t reduce her forward speed at all. The crimson light in her pupils grew increasingly intense, and at the moment the bear’s paw came down, her form transformed into a swarm of crimson bats and disappeared.
When she reappeared, Tilia was already airborne, raising her leg to deliver a powerful flying kick to the Snow Bear Leader’s head.
Three delayed blood-colored blade lights quickly flashed across its body. As it fell due to loss of balance, its entire HP bar rapidly changed from green to yellow, then dropped to red.
【Critical Hit! HP-4354!】
【Critical Hit! HP-4862!】
【Critical Hit! HP-4226!】
Tilia landed gracefully on the ground, hearing the Snow Bear Leader crash to the ground behind her and shatter into crystal fragments with a bang. She continued moving forward without looking back, these level 15 elite monsters no longer posed any threat to her.
So, what about the floor boss, the Winter Ice Wolf King?
Typically, floor bosses were set to be 10 levels higher than the current floor’s maximum level. If the highest-level small monsters were level 15, then the floor boss would be level 25. However, there was a difference between the levels of ordinary monsters and bosses.
Level 25 for ordinary monsters usually meant that players around that level could easily challenge them.
But level 25 for elite monsters meant their stats would be significantly higher than ordinary monsters, usually requiring a team of 3-5 players to tackle together. As for bosses, they were several times stronger on top of that, with a maximum of 25 players allowed to participate in a raid.
Tilia wondered what her chances of victory would be with her level 49 attributes when facing the level 25 BOSS Winter Ice Wolf King, whose strength had doubled during the public test period.
Solo play in this game ultimately had its limits.
For one person to hold up the combat power originally designed for twenty-five people was practically an impossible feat. But since she knew the Winter Ice Wolf King’s mechanics like the back of her hand, Tilia wanted to try once more to clear the third floor alone.
If she successfully cleared the third floor, the harsh environment of the Wind Snow Area would be somewhat weakened, allowing more players to pass through safely.
But just as Tilia was thinking this, she suddenly noticed several red crystal clusters appearing in the snow-white forest. The bright red color stood out starkly against the pure white surroundings.
“How can this be?” Tilia stopped in her tracks, sliding a distance on the snow with her heel to brake.
“Could some players have already gone ahead to challenge the floor BOSS?” Since she was already very close to the Ice Wolf King’s Cave, Tilia couldn’t help but have this thought, but she quickly dismissed it.
Although it was an open-air BOSS, there was still a battle arena, and the floor guardian BOSS wasn’t like a wild monster with a pursuit range.
But given the strength of the third floor’s ordinary monsters, there shouldn’t be pioneer players who had sacrificed themselves.
Tilia went forward and lightly tapped the top of a red crystal cluster with her finger. A red screen frame immediately popped up in front of her, displaying a line of text — 【Defeat Reason: Player Conflict】.
Tilia narrowed her eyes, examining the line of text.
She proceeded to check two other red crystal clusters, and the cause of death for all of them was also player conflict.
“Someone’s gone red-named?” Tilia didn’t know what had happened here before, but the cause of death being player conflict meant internal fighting between players, the original wild PVP gameplay in the game.
In wilderness areas, players could attack each other unless they were teammates; attacks could cause damage to others.
Perhaps due to the possibility of accidental injury, as long as players didn’t actively enable PVP red-name mode, meaning they didn’t harbor hostile intentions ,skills could cause damage but couldn’t kill players, always leaving them with at least 1 HP.
Enabling red-name mode would allow kills and grant one item from the defeated player as spoils.
The rules announced by the Star Lord on the first day were very clear.
In this game, once a kill was made, all items and equipment of the defeated player would be plundered. The price was that once red-name mode was enabled, it could never be turned off, meaning that killing someone equated to having a permanent sin value.
Red-named players could be attacked by other players in the main city areas.
If there were NPC guards, they would attack and drive away red-named players. This meant that red-named players could never return to safe zones and could only wander in dangerous wilderness. Once such players existed, they would become threats more terrifying than wild monsters.
Despite such consequences.
Someone had still activated red-name mode and had plundered… no, killed three players here.
The tracks in the snow had already been quickly covered by the wind and snow, making it impossible to determine how many people had engaged in life-and-death conflicts here. Only some battle traces could be seen in the surroundings, with marks from different weapons left on the trees.
Under what circumstances had red-name mode been activated? Fighting over monsters? Resource conflicts?
Or was someone maliciously killing players?
But these were genuine lives.
If someone really did that, killing in the game would be equivalent to truly killing a person, an actual crime…
Tilia closed the display frame and stood up, her crimson eyes darkening, revealing a more cautious gaze.
“It seems that from now on, what we need to guard against in this snowy land isn’t just wild monsters.”
