Chapter 50: The Familiar Feeling from Tilia
***
“Now we’ll just wait for Cross to recover her MP. The third floor monster info is different from the closed beta information, so we need to be more careful to avoid encountering dangerous creatures like that giant golem again.”
“Hmm. But why doesn’t this game have MP recovery potions? It only has HP ones…”
“Maybe it’s to prevent mage-type players from becoming too overpowered. Magic already has AOE range, high damage, and extreme range. If there were conditions for unlimited MP recovery, melee players would probably be at a severe disadvantage in PVP.”
Actually, to be precise, MP recovery potions do exist, at least according to the game’s official website.
But as for why they haven’t been seen in the game, it seems the materials needed to make such potions are very expensive and require high-level alchemist qualifications. It appears that magical power in this world isn’t defined in ordinary terms.
“By the way, you might find this strange, but foods like grilled fish can restore small amounts of MP.”
“Eh!?” Cross blinked, then her throat made a small gulp. She was feeling a bit hungry, and just hearing the words “grilled fish” made her almost smell the aroma. “But where would we get grilled fish?”
“Well… like this.”
Tilia walked out of the cave, then with a wave of her hand toward the frozen lake in front of the cave entrance, a dark red glow emanated from her palm as she released a gravity spell. Instantly, the ice surface shattered into pieces.
Then, Cross only saw a water curtain rising high behind the silhouette of the slender girl, with fresh fish falling from the sky.
“Wow…” Cross widened her eyes, looking at this scene with amazement.
For some reason, the scene resembled the romantic image of a girl standing in front of a rising colorful music fountain in the real world, smiling brightly. Although Cross had never seen Tilia in reality, she felt that her imagination wouldn’t be far from the truth.
“Beneath the frozen ice layer, the water temperature is actually warmer, so many fish still exist there. This is a rather crude fishing method. Actually, it involves a fishing life skill in the game.”
“With better bait, you could attract higher-level fish and higher-quality ingredients. You might even fish up treasure chests, though you could also get junk like seaweed. The results are said to be related to your fishing level. I heard someone once fished up a chest from a lake on the first floor that contained purple equipment, which sold for a good price.”
“And apparently the fishing in this game is so much fun that many players who are fishing enthusiasts in real life have given up real fishing to spend all day cyber-fishing in the game. They find it endlessly enjoyable. When you reach certain fishing levels, you can earn achievements and collect medals from the fishing association…”
As she was speaking, Tilia’s gaze froze, and her eyes lowered slightly.
If this were just a normal game.
Her current explanation of these rich game features to Cross would surely evoke a different feeling. Perhaps they would excitedly choose a peaceful lake together and spend an entire day fishing, competing to see who could catch the more impressive items.
If that were the case, for someone like her who had almost no female friends in reality, being able to happily spend time with Cross in the game…
She would certainly feel extremely happy…
But that leisurely enjoyment of the game had been mercilessly stripped away.
At least for now, while they were working with other players to clear the third floor in order to escape this game.
For the third floor, the floor boss 「Winter Ice Wolf King」 was an outdoor boss, located at the 【Ice Wolf King’s Cave】. They would need to use smoke to force it out. If she remembered correctly, it should be quite close to their current position.
Perhaps they should check if the location had changed and gather some information in advance.
“What’s wrong, Tilia? You suddenly look unhappy.”
Cross, hearing her gradually quieting voice, seemed to notice something and couldn’t help but purse her lips.
In some ways, Miss Tilia really resembled Nolan… Just like when she was thinking, she would silently consider something while maintaining a calm exterior that made it impossible to guess what was on her mind.
“No, nothing. I was just lost in thought for a moment. Let’s try grilling the fish.”
“Okay, can we really grill them, just with fire?”
“Yes, there will even be a progress bar for grilling. Pretty amazing, right?” Tilia put away the gloom on her face and smiled at Cross, using gravity magic to toss all the fish she had blasted out into the cave.
Since they had a campfire, grilling fish would be simple.
They found some branches from the nearby forest, skewered the fish, and placed them on the fire rack.
Then, while waiting for the fish to cook.
Tilia put on her cold weather outfit and stood up, saying to Cross: “I’ll scout the surrounding area to make sure that giant golem doesn’t suddenly appear again. Cross, please watch the grilled fish for me and don’t let my portion burn.”
“Okay. Come back quickly, I’ll wait for you.”
Cross nodded, watching Tilia’s slender black-stockinged legs beneath her heavy coat as she walked out of the cave with light steps. Suddenly, she had a small realization, belatedly discovering something.
Strange, how had she become the one being taken care of again?
Miss Tilia, beautiful and strong, very opinionated…
This sense of reliability.
It really did feel strangely familiar.
