Chapter 49: Survivor Camp
***
Third floor, Sealed Winter Snow Plains (Lv.?)
Two girls rode on a deer spirit that was about to exhaust its MP, approaching an ice cave visible in the distance. Along the way, they inevitably attracted a pack of Lv.12 Ice Plains Wolves whose pursuit speed was faster than the deer spirit, and they were about to be caught up.
“I’ll handle this. Cross, keep moving forward. I’ll catch up.”
Before Cross could respond, Tilia leaped from the deer spirit’s back, facing several Ice Plains Wolves that were lunging through the air. She swept a crimson crescent slash across them, instantly killing two or three of the wolves.
Tch, wolves again. This kind of creature has already aroused my extreme hostility.
Tilia looked at the continuously gathering Ice Plains Wolves without any mercy. Her scythe whistled through the air with metallic ringing sounds, and the crisp sounds of skills activating came one after another. It was like an endless spawn point, with wolves coming one after another as if they could never be completely eliminated.
This game is too realistic, and that’s where the trouble lies.
Not only do the wild monsters have a large detection range, but their pursuit range is also extraordinarily wide. It’s not like ordinary MMO games where you just need to create some distance and the monsters will enter a disengagement range, then stupidly run back to their starting positions and wait.
The pursuit range of Ice Plains Wolves depends on their stamina, which means chasing for several kilometers is not impossible.
“So… so strong…”
Cross spared a glance at the battle behind her. She had originally thought that with so many Ice Plains Wolves, Tilia might not be able to handle them. But unexpectedly, the white-haired girl not only seemed at ease but even her battle posture gave off a sense of composure and elegance.
Miss Tilia’s attack power is so high…
Even though her level is lower than mine, she easily kills Lv.12 Ice Plains Wolves with a single strike.
Is it because the scythe is a dual-wielding weapon?
I heard that dual-wielding weapons have extremely high attack power, commonly known as “heavy weapons.” The trade-off for super high attack power is slow attack speed, but she didn’t show any clumsiness at all.
Like Nolan, is she an agility player? Only top-tier players at the highest level would focus on agility to increase their operational ceiling.
Miss Tilia also seems to be very experienced with these types of games.
However, in reality, for Tilia, there was no distinction between dual-wielding and single-wielding with her scythe. Holding it with both hands counted as dual-wielding, while holding it with one hand counted as single-wielding. During single-wielding, her other hand could still cast dark magic.
Casting without a magic staff seemed to be a privilege of her status as a Vampire Princess.
Fighting their way through like this, after the deer spirit made a high leap across a stream that had not yet frozen, they successfully reached a cave where they could temporarily shelter from the wind and snow. The remaining Ice Plains Wolves seemed to have given up on crossing the water and began to wander around on the other side.
— 【Basic Fireball】!
A flash of flame illuminated half of Tilia’s face. With a whoosh, Cross released a fireball from her magic staff with her last bit of MP. The Ice Plains Wolves’ HP only decreased by half, but it seemed to make them retreat.
Watching the Ice Plains Wolves gradually walk away, Tilia turned to Cross with some surprise.
“Hehe, since they’re Ice Plains Wolves, they must have some ice attributes, right? I thought fire magic might scare them away.”
“It seems to be effective indeed. I see… elemental counters can be manifested in this way too.” Tilia pondered, stroking her chin. It seemed that the closed beta players who said carrying a torch could drive away Ice Plains Wolf packs weren’t lying after all.
Of course, Cross looked at her own MP value, which was now down to only 2 points, completely spent.
The cave before them lay beneath a blanket of snow.
The icicles at the entrance were as neat as if cut by an invisible blade, refracting prism-like halos of light. Frozen within the icicles hanging from the cave ceiling were luminous fern plants. The cave was not very deep, but the space was already sufficient for players to rest here for a while, equipped with a campfire, grill, and stone benches.
“Looks like no one has beat us here yet.”
Tilia observed the surroundings and found no traces left by other players.
They walked a few steps inside, and the howling of the wind and snow outside instantly diminished, as if suddenly swept away by the wind.
After Cross lit the campfire with a small flame, everything brightened up before the two girls’ eyes. A 【Warmth】 display appeared in their BUFF bar, indicating that while they were near the campfire in the cave, they would no longer accumulate cold values.
On the contrary, the cold value would continuously decrease during this period.
So even though this wasn’t a safe zone and had no safety protection, Tilia would still call it a survivor camp in the snow plains.
“Ah, so warm…”
Cross pressed her legs together, placed her magic staff across her lap, and then held her two small hands over the campfire to warm them. Her eyelashes fluttered as a contented, happy expression appeared on her face.
Sitting by a fire in the snow was as comfortable as turning on the heating in a house during winter.
