Chapter 32: In Short, Let’s Change Clothes First
***
“Ah, I’m so tired. I’ll think about everything else later.”
Tilia Scarlet sat on the edge of the bed, interlocking her fingers and raising her arms to stretch.
In the room’s mirror, the beautiful girl also made this motion without any guard, and when Tilia turned her face, she saw the girl in the mirror revealing her smooth armpit and side breast when raising her hands. Immediately blushing with embarrassment, she quickly covered herself.
This- this is bad… The dress needs to be changed immediately. She had already noticed that this princess gown was somewhat too revealing and sexy.
After all, not only were her shoulders exposed, but even her back was only held together by crossed strings. Although the character illustration in the character panel looked nice, wearing it herself was another matter entirely.
The feeling of changing from “choosing to play a female character for visual pleasure” to “actually becoming transported into the game as a female character” was probably what Tilia was experiencing now, though the distinction was meaningless since she hadn’t chosen this in the first place.
“This one, and this one too… A Magic Academy style dress like Cross’s would be quite nice… although I don’t have much confidence in my aesthetic sense.”
Calling up the equipment appearance interface, Tilia’s fingertips quickly selected through rows of equipment appearance options.
Finally, she changed into a short magic robe with deep gray gradient star patterns. The even hem was somewhat short but sufficient to cover herself. She also replaced the high heels with low-heeled women’s ankle boots with semicircular heels, and put on a black cloak with a hood to conceal her figure.
With this, looking at the beautiful girl in the mirror again, she felt much more at ease.
“It’s- it’s not particularly embarrassing or uncomfortable… right?”
After awkwardly laughing to herself a few times, as if unable to convince herself, Tilia deflated, her shoulders drooping as she showed a rather helpless smile. Finally, she returned her gaze to her character panel.
Not only her level but also the equipment she had farmed during the closed beta were preserved. All seven equipment slots contained shimmering blue equipment.
Some items and materials in her backpack were also preserved, but some quest items and unique items had disappeared. It was like starting a second playthrough of the game — except for settings that would conflict with the official release, basically everything had been well preserved.
So would other players have this kind of “closed beta privilege,” or would other closed beta players retain their previous account characters? But so far, she hadn’t heard anyone mention this, was she the only one?
If so, then this secret was, as expected, something that couldn’t be easily revealed to others.
Whether in-game or in reality, one must maintain basic caution and not reveal everything. At least keep some cards hidden, and now this secret had become her hidden card.
Though she couldn’t switch back to Nolan, she could still activate the Dark Night Swordsman state.
She alone possessed both physical and magical attack types.
And because character level experience was shared, she didn’t need to put in double the effort. As the Vampire Princess, she would have powerful racial talents and survival abilities, while as the Dark Night Swordsman, sword skills had the highest damage ceiling in the game.
She also combined ranged attacks with close-quarters blocking, presenting complementary advantages — this could definitely be her ace in the hole.
Perhaps the upper limit she could reach would be even higher than during the closed beta…
While pondering this, footsteps in the inn’s corridor interrupted her thoughts and made Tilia’s heart tighten. “Have they returned…”
…Downstairs at the inn.
Cross, with reddened eyes, hugged her magic staff and hung her head dejectedly, sniffling softly.
On the way back, Kilo and Karl had been consoling her, saying that Nolan would certainly be fine. Although it was hard to believe, if he really had defeated the floor BOSS, perhaps he had already gone to the third floor by now.
When Cross had run to the BOSS room, she hadn’t seen any trace of Nolan, only an abandoned hall filled with battle marks everywhere.
From the extent of damage to the venue, it was clear just how intense the battle had been, but both challenger and challenged had disappeared after the announcement that the BOSS had been defeated.
Moreover, Cross didn’t know what that red lightning she had seen was…
The only confirmation of Nolan’s safety was that he was still showing as online in her friends list, but he wouldn’t reply to messages.
Cross knew Nolan was strong. From the beginning, she knew he was more capable than others. Perhaps he really thought she was holding him back and chose to challenge the BOSS alone and explore the third floor by himself, unwilling to bring along this little follower anymore.
But if that were truly the case, Cross also hoped that Nolan would tell her directly, or at least respond to her message.
Then she would never follow him again.
And despite still being teammates, he chose to face danger alone. Tonight had really frightened her. When she discovered that Nolan had left the party before the BOSS room, Cross frantically called for people around town and formed a temporary team to go to the second floor.
Fortunately, the moment the announcement of the BOSS being defeated appeared, her tense nerves relaxed slightly.
He really was so strong… but this shocking fact also made her wonder: Nolan was just a closed beta player, yet he managed to defeat a floor BOSS alone? Was such a thing even possible? One person?
How could this be accomplished? And risking being killed easily in the game at any moment?
In Cross’s heart, Nolan was probably more frightening than the BOSS now.
But judging from his unwillingness to reply to messages and choice to go alone, perhaps they would hardly have a chance to meet again in the future.
So that’s what he meant when he previously praised her for having individual survival abilities…
With complicated feelings, Cross walked up the inn stairs with heavy steps, intending to return to her room to sort out her thoughts. Looking up, she was surprised to see that the door to Nolan’s room next to hers was now closed.
She clearly remembered that when she left, the door had been open and the room empty.
“Eh, Nolan?” Cross blinked her still-tearful big eyes several times and quickly ran over, her heart unconsciously beating a little faster.
She first knocked on the door, and seeing no response from inside, she then used the room access permissions Nolan had previously granted her. After the identity verification window showed a green pass, she carefully pushed the door inward.
But when she opened the room, what she saw was not Nolan.
Instead, there was a girl as beautiful as an elf, sitting tensely on the edge of the bed with her slender black-stockinged legs crossed. The moment their eyes met, the stunningly beautiful girl’s expression visibly became awkward and embarrassed, her gaze involuntarily shifting away for a moment.
