Chapter 34: The Treasure Revealed (Part 2)

Ah Qing replied, “My sister went out; she’s not home.”

Han Long pressed further, “Went out? Where did she go? When will she be back?”

“She went out to gather medicine for Uncle Ming. As for when she’ll be back, I don’t know,” Ah Qing said, shaking her head.

Hearing this, Han Long looked immediately regretful.

“What bad timing! If only we’d come earlier!”

Long Suwen sighed helplessly, “Even if we’d come earlier, you couldn’t have stopped Miss Yuan from going to find medicine. It’s a matter of saving lives.”

Ah Qing asked curiously, “Uncle Han, Auntie Long, what did you need my sister for?”

Han Long waved his hand dismissively, “Children shouldn’t know too much about adult matters.”

Ah Qing puffed up her cheeks in frustration — (`ヘ´)=3 —

“Treated like a child again! So annoying!”

Long Suwen chuckled, “Ah Qing, your Uncle Han means well. It’s not that he wants to keep secrets from you. Even though this matter isn’t exactly a secret anymore, it’s safer for you not to know too much.”

“Alright then,” Ah Qing nodded, then said seriously, “I’m going to practice now! Once I become as strong as my sister, no one will treat me like a kid again!”

Saying so, she ran off.

Watching her back disappear, Han Long let out a long sigh.

“Looks like we’ll have to go ourselves.”

It turned out that Han Long and his wife had come to seek cooperation with Yuan Zhao.

Lately, many unfamiliar martial artists had been showing up around Tianmen Town. Later, the couple learned the reason—according to rumors, the treasure of the Bandit King was about to resurface.

And the location? Mount Yulian.

So martial artists from all over began heading there, with Tianmen Town as their midway stop.

Even Man Li and her companions had appeared in Tianmen Town for that same reason.

The Bandit King, as the stories went, was a formidable warlord from over three hundred years ago—a peerless master of his generation.

During the late years of the previous dynasty, the land was in chaos. Countless forces rose up against imperial rule, and the Bandit King was one of them.

Originally a desert bandit, he united many of the raiders along the borders through his sheer strength. Declaring himself “King of the Raiders,” he led campaigns that eventually reached the capital itself.

But being a former bandit, he didn’t understand that governing an empire was far different from leading a band of raiders. His rule quickly collapsed under corruption and mismanagement, lasting less than three years.

In the end, he was defeated by another rising power, the founder of the new Liang Dynasty.

Thus the Great Liang Empire was born.

However, legend says the Bandit King didn’t die after his defeat. Instead, he escaped to the frontier with his immense wealth.

Whether his treasure truly existed became one of history’s enduring mysteries.

In fact, the first to receive word of the treasure’s reappearance was none other than the emperor of Great Liang himself. He secretly passed the news to allied border groups, including the Sha Long Gang, hoping the bandits could quietly locate the treasure for him.

But somehow, the secret spread across the capital… and soon the entire empire knew.

And so, secrecy turned to chaos. The whole frontier was now in turmoil.

Since Yuan Zhao wasn’t home, Han Long and Long Suwen had no choice but to head for Mount Yulian on their own.

Days passed.

Yuan Zhao, unaware of the brewing storm, was already traveling toward Mount Yulian, which was soon to become the eye of that storm.

After crossing a vast desert and an empty expanse of rocky plains, she and Old Wolf finally entered the borders of Great Xiao.

Unlike the dusty yellow hues of Tianmen Town, before her stretched an endless sea of green, boundless grasslands that made her heart feel lighter.

“Awooo~~!”

Old Wolf howled in excitement, releasing his emotions.

Born and raised in the desert, this was his first time seeing such vast open plains.

But his joyful howl brought unexpected trouble.

Yuan Zhao suddenly sensed movement, a group of uninvited guests emerging from the grass.

“Awoo~”

Out came a pack of wolves, but not the same kind as Old Wolf.

Old Wolf was a desert wolf, his fur sandy-gray, while these were prairie wolves, with bluish-gray coats.

At first, Yuan Zhao thought they meant to attack. She drew her Heaven’s Prison Blade—ready for battle.

But the next second, the wolf pack lowered their bodies and bowed their heads toward Old Wolf, a clear gesture of submission.

> (՞•Ꙫ•՞)ノ ???

Even Yuan Zhao was dumbfounded—and Old Wolf, even more so.

“Old Wolf… did you call them here?”

Old Wolf shook his head vigorously: No way! He’d just howled twice for fun!

Yuan Zhao thought for a moment, then said, “Try telling them to leave.”

Old Wolf nodded and lifted his head to howl again.

“Awooo~”

Sure enough, at the sound, the wolves scattered, vanishing into the tall grass as swiftly as they’d come.

Yuan Zhao patted Old Wolf’s head in delight.

“Not bad! You’ve become a wolf king!”

Old Wolf blinked, still confused: So I’m that strong? First time I’ve heard that!

(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ But then again, I’ve always been the wolf king!

“Alright, let’s keep moving.”

The wolf encounter was just a small interlude in their journey.

Half a day later, Yuan Zhao reached a wide river—its source lay ahead, at her destination: Mount Yulian.
