Dear Readers,

Due to a temporary website issue, starting around April 3, all novels started before January 2025 will be temporarily moved to the drafts folder for approximately 3–4 weeks. Unfortunately, this novel is included in that list.

In the meantime, I will be uploading the latest advance chapters to my Ko-fi account for my supporters. Regular updates will resume as soon as the site allows.

Thank you for your patience and support!

Since that day, Baobao never sees the young man in the military uniform on campus again. She thinks that perhaps his obsession fades, so she decides to move on and wait for her former lover underground.

She sees the same gray shadow beside the old lady, one she had noticed before behind an old man when she first inhabits this body. The old lady’s days seem numbered.

Baobao often visits the old lady and occasionally takes Chunming along.

The old lady is always delighted to see the two of them together. Once, she confides to Baobao that seeing them makes her feel like she is looking at her former self.

Chunming likes her!

The old lady has said so, and she believes it without a doubt.

Baobao feels a bit lost, remembering what Chunming said when filling out the college entrance exam application. He told her that he had found a belief more important than even Harbin.

It seems that Chunming truly cares for her. Baobao is confused about her own feelings and, over the past few days, deliberately avoids the monk, Chunming.

“Teacher Gu is back. He looks like he’s lost a lot of weight. It’s so pitiful. He was loved by such a madwoman. He thought his girlfriend had abandoned him all these years, but who knew that the girl was actually murdered.”

“Yeah, I hope Teacher Gu can move on quickly and find someone he likes as soon as possible.”

Gu Yuan hurriedly crosses the campus path. Students who had attended his history theory class recognize him and whisper about him after he passes.

The case of the corpse hidden in the women’s restroom shakes the entire school, and Gu Yuan becomes something of a celebrity at Provincial University.

Most of the boys admire him. He has such charm that a spoiled young lady kills and hides the body out of love for him. Most of the girls sympathize with him. Liu Zhaonan’s death is a tragic consequence of his past, and they fear that this gentle, elegant teacher will live with guilt over his ex-girlfriend’s death for the rest of his life.

After Jiang Ying is arrested, the vice principal is suspended for investigation. Gu Yuan’s work remains mostly unaffected. However, to adjust his mood, Gu Yuan requests a short vacation from the school. After a week of rest at home, he returns to school to resume his classes.

In just a few days, he loses a lot of weight, and his appearance isn’t as polished and refined as before. It is clear that the case deeply affects his emotional state.

Rumors circulate that he has applied for a divorce. Most people can understand his decision. No man could accept that his beloved girlfriend has been killed by his wife in a bid for promotion.

No one thinks that his filing for divorce at this time might add insult to injury.

“Ugh, this man is the worst.” Fang Xinxin takes Baobao’s hand and spits in disdain at Gu Yuan.

She is truly upset. Just a few days ago, when Fang Xiao had gossiped about this teacher, she spoke sympathetically of Gu Yuan, suggesting that perhaps he wasn’t merely interested in Jiang Ying’s family background and might have truly been moved by her.

Of course, Fang Xiao said that more because she despised Jiang Ying’s naivety, which, as a spoiled young lady herself, made her feel uncomfortable. She didn’t necessarily mean it from the heart.

Since the corpse-in-the-toilet case came to light, the princess’ attitude changes 180 degrees. She now insults Gu Yuan passionately in the dorm, claiming that he must have been involved in Liu Zhaonan’s death. Even after the police confirm that Jiang Ying is the killer, Fang Xinxin still believes Gu Yuan is guilty.

“It’s true that Jiang Ying is foolish and reckless, but how can this man be innocent? If he had really been firm and clear with Jiang Ying, would she have pursued him for four years? Did he truly love Liu Zhaonan so much that he would continue dating Jiang Ying after she disappears without explanation? In my opinion, he plays both sides. On one hand, he can’t let go of his pretty and considerate childhood sweetheart, and on the other hand, he can’t give up Miss Jiang, who has a good family background and can offer him a decent job. It’s this indecision that gives Jiang Ying false hope, driving her to madness and ultimately causing her to kill Liu Zhaonan. The most disgusting part of this is the man himself.”

Princess Fang despises all three people in the story, including the victim, Liu Zhaonan. She sees the woman who is hostile to her and wants to be the third party. For four years, her boyfriend never cut off the woman with bad intentions. What is the point of having a man like that?

Now that Liu Zhaonan is dead, Fang Xinxin can forgive her vicious words. During this time, she has only angrily scolded Jiang Ying and Gu Yuan.

“Baobao, can you see those things?”

Ever since the toilet incident, Fang Xinxin trusts Sheng Baobao even more—especially after she smashes the wall in the middle of the night and digs out the female corpse in the toilet. Fang Xinxin’s attitude toward her drastically changes, and she truly regards Baobao as a master.

Her father is especially superstitious about these matters. Every time he has to make an important decision, he consults a master to calculate it. From her father, Fang Xinxin learns that there are indeed people in the world with abilities that ordinary people do not possess.

She believes that even if Sheng Baobao isn’t exactly that kind of master, there must be elders in her family who are psychic.

“Can you let Liu Zhaonan take her own revenge? Let her get what she deserves,” Fang Xinxin whispers as she sneaks up to Baobao.

Isn’t that what happens in supernatural stories? The wronged female ghost takes revenge at midnight, and the unfaithful man meets his end.

“What are you talking about? I’m just an ordinary freshman,” Baobao replies, pretending to be clueless. She would never admit to her abilities in front of this little princess.

However, some of Fang Xinxin’s thoughts coincide with Baobao’s.

Even though the police have identified the murderer, Baobao still suspects Gu Yuan.

What Fang Xinxin has just mentioned is one of the reasons, but there is another issue that still bothers her.

When Fang Xiao had been gossiping about Gu Yuan, she mentioned a rumor that had spread around the school shortly after Liu Zhaonan’s disappearance. The rumor claims that Liu Zhaonan signed an agreement with her parents stipulating that two-thirds of the money she earned after graduation would be handed over to them, even after she married and had children.

Because of this rumor, everyone believes that Liu Zhaonan ran away secretly to escape her family. Even the police had believed this explanation after an initial investigation.

Such a secret would only be known by a very few people. Liu Zhaonan’s parents wouldn’t have volunteered this information unless they wanted their reputation to worsen. This narrows down the scope of possible suspects.

So, who knew Liu Zhaonan’s family affairs best? And who would benefit most if the police were kept from finding Liu Zhaonan?

The answer is becoming clearer.

Looking at Jiang Ying’s temperament—she has been pampered since childhood and has probably never even killed a chicken—she kills a person on the night of the graduation ceremony and hides the body in the wall. Even though that person is her rival, Jiang Ying must have been panicked and terrified.

Gu Yuan has dated and married her for three years, slept in the same bed every day, and portrayed a loving couple to the outside world. Could it be that he never noticed anything strange during these three years, or did he discover something and choose to conceal it?

A darker possibility crosses Baobao’s mind: What if Jiang Ying has been so caught up in her emotions that she kills someone? Is it possible that Gu Yuan has planted some ideas in her, making her believe that once Liu Zhaonan is out of the picture, he will be with her?

Baobao’s guess is disturbingly close to the truth.

Indeed, Gu Yuan has played a very important role in this situation.

When he first arrives at Provincial University with Liu Zhaonan, he thinks he has made it. But when he sees how many of his classmates have better grades and better family backgrounds than him, Gu Yuan—who has always been arrogant—becomes deeply shaken.

At the beginning, when Jiang Ying pursues him, Gu Yuan is a bit arrogantly insecure. He privately thinks that if the vice-president’s daughter is pursuing him, it means that he is no worse than anyone else, though he knows that her interest is based on his looks and his gentle, elegant demeanor.

Back then, he still loved Liu Zhaonan, who had grown up with him.

But he never fully rejects Jiang Ying. Whenever she is about to give up, he gives her just enough hope to keep her interested. In the university, being pursued by the vice-president’s daughter becomes his greatest achievement.

Later, as he nears graduation and the school begins assigning jobs, Gu Yuan wants to stay at the university because being a teacher is a respectable job with a good salary. That is when his attitude starts to shift.

Especially after he learns from his girlfriend that two-thirds of her salary will go to her parents, Gu Yuan’s resolve becomes firm.

He begins speaking ambiguously in front of Jiang Ying, occasionally giving her a melancholic, hesitant look to make her think that he is wavering. He wants her to believe that once Liu Zhaonan is out of the picture, he will finally make up his mind to be with her.

At that time, he never imagines that Jiang Ying will become so desperate as to murder Liu Zhaonan. He only wants to use her to push Liu Zhaonan out of his life, ensuring that she will no longer be a presence.

After Liu Zhaonan disappears, Jiang Ying’s fear and panic give Gu Yuan some inkling of the truth. But by then, Jiang Ying’s father has already started making arrangements for him, and the Jiang family has even prepared a wedding house and car for Jiang Ying. Gu Yuan can’t let her get into trouble at this point.

So, he spreads rumors that Liu Zhaonan has run away from her family, making everyone believe that she has fled on her own instead of having met with an accident.

Over the past three years, he has flattered Jiang Ying and coaxed her into putting his name on the house and car deeds. All the valuable items in the house have slowly been transferred to his name.

He is completely fed up with sleeping with this ugly, foolish, and particularly pretentious woman. He has been trying to get rid of her for a long time, but unfortunately, he has no idea where Jiang Ying has hidden the body. The police have been searching for so long and still can’t find it. This might be the smartest thing Jiang Ying has done in her entire life.

It is unfortunate for her, though. The female corpse is found by a freshman girl.

Now, he is finally free. He has a stable, prestigious job, a house, a car, and savings. No one can control him anymore. He has become the respectable person he once envied among his classmates.

“Bang——”

When class ends, a group of students rushes out of the classroom. Gu Yuan finishes organizing his lesson plans and steps outside, bumping into a female student.

“I’m sorry, Teacher Gu,” Baobao quickly apologizes.

“It’s okay.” Gu Yuan gently shakes his head, his eyes lingering on Baobao’s face for a moment.

What a lovely and pure girl. Gu Yuan thinks that in a year or two, he should finally move on from the “sorrow” and start a new relationship.

He doesn’t notice that when they collide, Baobao’s palm lightly pats his back, and a dark light shoots into his body.

Later that night, Gu Yuan brushes his teeth, turns on the faucet, and begins washing his face.

He scoops up a handful of water, lowers his head toward the sink, splashes the water on his face, and rubs it with a wet towel.

As he lowers his head, another face appears in the mirror.

Half of it is shrunken, the other half rotting. It stares at him with decayed eyeballs…

At the beginning, he had promised under the jujube tree at the entrance of the village that they would be together for the rest of their lives…

Together…

Together…

They will never be apart…

Baobao looks at the little clay figurine beside her pillow. No matter how good an actor is, they can’t act when they are alone.

If he isn’t innocent, then he will be able to feel the crazy, stubborn love and resentment of his ex-girlfriend.

After watching for a while, she places the little clay figurine back. When the time comes, she will destroy it and send her into reincarnation.

Jixing has been angry at his temporary residence for half a month, but finally, he can’t sit still anymore.

He is going to use his last trump card. This time, the little ghost won’t call the police, and even if she calls the underworld, it won’t help.
